National Geographic is celebrating its 132 years anniversary with a collaborative collection with Vans! Using the medium of a purposeful storytelling narrative with an emphasis on strong photographic documentation, you’ll find Vans’ popular sneaker styles adopting some of the publication’s most noteworthy photographs in each of their unique designs.
For instance, starring in this six-piece footwear lineup is the Vans x National Geographic Era low top skater shoes covered in the magazine’s covers and completed with National Geographic’s signature yellow border around its outsoles.
On the other hand, the Slip-On depicts Antarctica’s Pine Island Glacier on its upper, meant as a creative endeavour to draw attention to its dramatic depletion of ice sheets caused by global warming.

Other explorations in design also include the Authentic sneakers with an underwater oceanic print with geographical coordinates on its soles, the Old Skool with famed wildlife photographer Joel Sartore’s animal portraits of a Mexican grey wolf opposite a tree frog, and the Sk8-Hi Reissue 138 which bears an unmissable embroidered National Geographic logo.

Our favourite of the lot though would have to be the UltraRange EXO sneakers, that features an interstellar space rendering over Vans’ most lightweight, breathable and high-performance silhouette. These, we think, best express the publication’s “sense of adventure and boundless discovery,” in the form of highly-functional and resistant footwear. And what can we say, we just love space okay?

Those who are detail-oriented would likely note the National Geographic logo, and Vans’ signature label plate in black and yellow adorning this sneaker collection. But perhaps, the most important detail that brings together this collection is its extensive use of sustainable organic cotton, that echoes both the foundational ethos of National Geographic and Vans.
Keen explorers would be thrilled to know, that there’s also an apparel and accessories collection for men and women accompanying this collaboration, as well as kids’ versions of the aforementioned sneakers.
