Sometimes, rumours can go from the realm of mere gossip to becoming actual truth. That’s the funny way in which M.A.C’s latest celebrity collaboration worked: first, the Internet was abuzz with Caitlyn Jenner coming up with her first beauty products, just the latest in the constant speculation in the lives of the Kardashian-Jenner clan. Jenner got wind of this, M.A.C made the first move to get this project going, and now, the first-ever Caitlyn Jenner-branded lipstick will be coming our way.
Jenner has named the cremesheen rosy nude shade “Finally Free”, a reference to her own gender transition – we can hardly believe it’s only been nine months since that Vanity Fair cover. In an interview with M.A.C, Jenner explains of the shade: “I wanted a lipstick that would be universal, suited to more people, and was an everyday lipstick, not just a high-glam, once-in-a-while kind of lipstick. I like a little colour on my lips, not a lot during the day. And this rosy nude is the colour I’ve gone to. To be honest, I want people to use it every day so they have to buy more. I want to raise a lot of money. It’s very simple.”
The fundraising in question is for the M.A.C AIDS Fund Transgender Initiative – all proceeds from the sale of this lipstick will go towards this initiative, created in support of transgender communities.
“And honestly, my ultimate fantasy — I never thought in a million years that it would ever happen — was to get involved with a makeup company,” Jenner says. “When you’re going through all of this, that’s just like never going to happen, but wouldn’t it be something to be involved in a project like that? Boy, watch out what you wish for, because it came true.”
This is undoubtedly a big step for Jenner, even considering how much she has done already to champion transgender rights in the short past nine months. We know the world is already waiting with a bated breath for a full-fledged Caitlyn Jenner makeup collection – no words on that yet (though we can expect rumours to abound), but we’re hoping for another case of rumour-turned-fact for sure.
