Rebel Heart came and went, and unfortunately, if you missed it you missed an impressive amount of bling. But if you did manage to catch Madonna live last night, you might be surprised to know that the Queen of Pop donned more than 2.5 million Swarovski crystals in 50 colours and 60 cuts onstage throughout the night. Then again, maybe you aren’t – it’s Madonna after all.
While she shimmied (and shimmered) in front of 25, 000 fans at the National Stadium last night, the Rebel Heart tour marks almost a decade of dazzling costume collaborations between Swarovski and Madonna. In that time, over 5.3 million Swarovski crystals have been painstakingly added to Madonna’s performances and world tours – that’s clothing, shoes, hats, masks, guitar straps, and of course, gloves. That’s a lot of crystals to be hand-gluing (worth 1,200 hours of labour, to be exact), but let’s be honest; no such thing as too sparkly for a classic star like Madonna.
