You’ve got the classic Birkin, refined beyond measure, and then, a playful rocking horse or a skateboard that looks like one of the French house’s legendary silk scarves. Thing is, Hermès always keeps things interesting — luxurious and understated, yet still edging towards quirky novelty, which is where we find ourselves when talking about Hermès Beauty, their new métier that was announced earlier in February this year.
For beauty collectors and fans alike, you’ll be glad to know that Hermès is now introducing three new shades to its Fall/Winter 2020 line of luxe Rouge Hermès lipsticks, in a variation of rosy-pink satin and matte shades.
As with the earlier collection, these lovely tubes are designed by Pierre Hardy, with the intention of creating beautiful cases that are both functional and refillable — the outer casing is deliberately durable and eye-catching in lacquered, polished and brushed metal, while you can always swap out its inner bullet with a refill.
As for the three new shades, these take inspiration from the transition between Autumn and Winter, whether it’s dark nights giving way to the glimmer of dawn, a clear sky, or the cool air of the outside in contrast with cosy interiors. That interplay of light, dark, and contrasts is said to echo the works of artists Charles Sheeler, John Register and Arduino Cantafora.
“Rose Nuit” is a matte shade of deep, velvety pink and subtle tints of blue, and comes paired with a light pink and turquoise case. “Rose Ombré” is a satin formula that sees a discreet rosewood colour, housed in a sophisticated sky-blue/deep-brown case. The last satin shade, “Rose Pommette”, on the other hand, is a joyful and vibrant rose-pink, similarly encased in lively lime-yellow and navy. Go ahead, be tempted.
