Singapore Airlines (SIA) recently announced new airline experiences that include dining aboard the Airbus A380, a behind-the-scenes tour, and more — and nope, these did not include “flights to nowhere”. The proposed idea was dropped after members of the public raised environmental concerns about the no-destination flights, and we are mighty glad they decided to pursue more worthy initiatives, specially catered to those who miss flying. Great thing is, you can now book them as early as 5 October 2020!
The three ‘Discover Your Singapore Airlines’ experiences include — in-plane dining on the Airbus A380, now converted into a pop-up restaurant; a behind-the-scenes guided tour of the airlines’ training facilities, along with educational workshops; and SIA@Home, where you get First Class and Business Class meals delivered to your home.
Prices start from $30 for a tour, $50 – $600 per seat for in-plane dining, and $288 for a home dining package for two. All experiences can be booked on KrisShop.com, while KrisFlyer members can redeem their miles to buy the experiences, and also earn miles on their purchases.
Take a look at the three experiences SIA is offering:
1. Restaurant A380 @Changi
When: 24 & 25 October 2020
Here’s where you get to dine in and experience the world-class service on board the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft, now converted into a restaurant. There’ll be special menus for each cabin class — Economy, Premium Economy, Business Class, and Suites — which offer menu items from SIA’s signature international cuisine, or dishes from an exclusive Peranakan menu designed by acclaimed Singaporean chef Shermay Lee. Diners can also pair their meal with two complimentary alcoholic drinks and a free flow of other beverages.
And if your partner gets a little too boring, or perhaps you’re dining solo, know that the KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system will be at your command too. You’ll be able to watch a movie while having your meal, pretty much like you would on a flight. Apart from the dining experience, you can also opt for pre-lunch tours of the aircraft, which gives a rare glimpse of private access areas, though only limited slots are available.
Prices: $50 for Economy; $90 for Premium Economy; $300 for Business Class; $600 for Suites
Reservations start on 12 October 2020. More info here.
2. Inside Singapore Airlines
When: 21, 22, 28, 29 November 2020
If you’ve ever been curious about what it takes to be a Singapore Airlines pilot or part of our world-renowned cabin crew, this guided tour should be an eye-opening experience. Here, you get to go behind-the-scenes at the SIA Training Centre, and it can even be a family affair, as the tours will be taking place during the kids’ school holidays. You can look forward to knowing more about the intense training programme, even interact with SIA’s pilots and cabin crew, while children can enjoy craft activities such as balloon sculpting and making batik roses.
Then, there are other add-on activities as well. You can sign your child up for a junior cabin crew experience where they can role-play in a mock-up of an A380 Business Class cabin, and bring home their own set of the SIA sarong kebaya uniform too. For the adults, go for a grooming workshop where you get to recreate that signature Singapore Girl chignon, learn more about wines, or try your hand at operating a full flight simulator, the same one used by Singapore Airlines pilots for training.
Prices: $30 for a tour. $38 for a Wine Appreciation workshop; $88 each for a Grooming Workshop or Junior Cabin Crew experience; $500 for a Flight Simulator experience
Bookings open on 1 November 2020. More info here.
3. SIA@Home
When: From 5 October 2020
Finally, for those who love airplane food, you now get to enjoy the in-flight dining experience in your own home — with the elevated options of First Class and Business Class meals, of course. These are created by SIA’s International Culinary Panel chefs. 10 menus will be available — from French, Australian, Japanese, Indian cuisines, and more — each complete with your choice of wine or champagne selected by SIA’s wine panel.
These dine-at-home packages also take the premium flight experience further by offering luxurious amenity kits typically reserved for Business and First Class passengers, while you can tune in to aircraft cabin videos and listen to a specially curated playlist while enjoying your meal. Add-on options are available too, and these include having your meals served in their exquisite tableware, or a Book-the-Chef private dining experience, where a chef will be present to plate and serve your meal.
Prices: From $288 for a Wine and Dine Business Class package for two; from $600 for a Wine & Dine First Class package for two
Bookings open on 5 October 2020. More info here.
