Melissa Just Gave The Roman Sandal A Jelly Facelift

International Women’s Day may have come and gone, but power women’s footwear brand Melissa has released an exclusive new collection in accordance that’s, thankfully, here to stay. (And anyway, you don’t really need a gender-specific holiday to tell yourself that yes, I deserve pretty shoes, do you?)

It’s all about making the world a prettier place – thus the collaboration with Brazilian brother-designers the Campana Brothers to produce this gorgeous new line. The Melissa Campana Barroca collection features exquisite detailing, apparent in the gladiator-style sandals showcasing accents of Baroque Roman art. But it doesn’t end there. Balancing the stylistic elements of florals, angels, and wings (think the winged shoes of Messenger to the Gods Hermes!) characteristic of iron and bronze Italian works, the shoe textures feature novel inclusions like scissors, screws, and metallic mesh – adding a contemporary touch to an otherwise “dated” shoe.

Well, who else but the Queen of jellies to further elevate the conventional jelly sandal to something worthy of gracing the feet of Roman royalty? The Melissa Campana Barroca shoes come in a range of six pearlescent colours clearly inspired by this season’s obsession with rose gold hues – perfect if you’re in the mood for a little pampering, International Women’s Day or not.
