Things are looking up this year, at least that’s our heartfelt desire after looking at Hermès Spring/Summer 2021 Objets collection. Full of vibrant hues and innovative interpretations of house icons, the accessories we spotted at their press presentation this week inspired us so much, we thought they deserved a story of its own. From exquisite craftsmanship, to the littlest details that honour the fashion house’s equestrian roots, here’s what we admired.
First off, we’ll start with the item that drew the most collective praise. There’s now a new way to carry your Birkin, via this leather harness created just for the most recognisable bag from the house. This comes inspired by equestrian bridles, so you can cradle your Birkin within sturdy leather straps fastened with button studs, to carry it on your shoulder or crossbody-style.
Bags
Hermès gives us plenty to love when it comes to their charming Spring/Summer bags, though we can’t help but notice the tiniest in the series — this cheeky “Kellydole” bag charm. Crafted in Tadelakt calfskin and Mysore goatskin, with intricate craftsmanship that includes a miniature swivel clasp, it’s basically a very small version of the famous 1999 “Kellydole” bag by Jean-Louis Dumas. For a sense of its scale, this can be used to store small objects such as the Apple AirPods Pro, without the charging case though.
Elsewhere, the Hermès Perspective bag is a curious one, where its curves are constructed in a way that reminds us of an optical illusion; it looks flat when you’re looking at it head-on, but sits sturdy on surfaces with plenty of room within too. Then, there’s a new practical tote featuring the H en biais motif from the 70s, newly reinterpreted with a tufted design in gradient tones. Other bags in the collection also include the Birkin 35 Fray Fray, which keeps it casual thanks to its frayed canvas design.

Cuffs, Bracelets & Barettes
The brushed metal finish of these Hermès cuffs and bracelets certainly caught our eye, especially when presented in colourful aluminium. You’ll notice the ‘Collier de chien’ codes being replicated here, in new colours that include a sunset shade inspired by the Californian sky. The same artful technique is replicated across shiny barrettes for the hair, while enamel bracelets and a pendant necklace show off the bright colours of the “Space Derby” design, created by Ugo Bienvenu and inspired by American comic-book superheroes, which you’ll also find on a large silk scarf.

More Accessories
Hermès has also perfected the technology of double-face silk scarves — the “La Danse des chevaux” print you see is printed on both sides, and shows up in completely different colours on the opposite side for contrast. Other carré designs also flaunt this unique technique, while still remaining unbelievably thin and lightweight. The collection also carries plenty of summer-ready hats, as well as chain-inspired jewellery that includes a series made with high-tech ceramic and rose gold; this marks the first time the hardy material is being used for Hermès jewellery. As for all of Hermès’ shoes this season, you can see them in full, resplendent glory here.
