Remember the buzz surrounding the late 80s cult film Back To The Future II last October? 2015 was supposed to be the year where flying cars, hoverboards and self-lacing sneakers were a thing. Also, Nike showed up at Michael J. Fox’s place to present the 2015 Nike Mag, which wowed us all.
Now, Nike unveils its first power-lacing sneaker, the HyperAdapt 1.0, which tightens the moment your feet hits a sensor in the shoe. It’s a dream come true for those who have been waiting patiently for a consumer version of the shoe (and of course for every kidult out there who hates tying shoes up to now). The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 is the first step into a new era of personalised performance with the concept of adaptive lacing. Designed by the legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield and Nike’s senior innovator Tiffany Beers, the shoes have buttons that lets you loosen or tighten to get that perfect fit. But they’re not stopping there; they’re already thinking about the potential of this new concept, which could possibly provide tailored-to-the-moment custom fit in the near future. No further details were made known at Nike’s Innovation 2016 event two days ago. But what we do know is that self-lacing sneakers are real, and they’re slated for a released to members of Nike+, and will be available in three colours at the end of the year.
