All The Lip Chubbies You Need

Makeup should be easy, right? Well, in today’s precision-obsessed world of makeup, lip brushes, tiny lip pencils, and finely sculpted lipsticks, we’re taking a step back and heading straight for the simplest of the lot – lip chubbies. Or more commonly known as lip crayons, for their easy twist-up shape that’s both fun and convenient to use. Who knew growing up just meant we’d get to translate our 24-pack set of crayons from paper onto our faces? For now, here are all the top lip chubbies you will ever want and need in your life.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm

The Queen of lip chubbies, Clinique’s Chubby Stick was the unrivaled pioneer of the entire chubby stick trend, and of course remains a top player today. While the original Moisturising Lip Colour Balms might not be the most pigmented – coverage is explicitly stated as sheer for easy, everyday wear – the range of 18 shades definitely makes up for it. And Clinique has heard your concerns and answered! – with the Chubby Stick Intense, which definitely packs a more vibrant punch.

$26, available at Clinique counters and Sephora.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

Another easy favourite of ours has to be the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil by NARS, especially since we’re suckers for smooth, rich mattes. Definitely more of a jumbo crayon than a regular lip liner pencil, this slick little number is creamy and non-drying without compromising on the intense coverage, and stays on even through the greasiest of meals. Fans have sworn that this is both a liner and a lipstick in one, and we dare say we agree. One downside though – no cute twisty feature here; keep your Lip Pencils fresh and sharp with consistent sharpening.

$37, available at Sephora.

Zoeva Lip Crayon

Here’s an affordable option for those who like their lip chubbies lightweight and natural. The Zoeva Lip Crayon comes in four neutral, wearable colours that are perfect for day-to-day looks – or pairing with a killer smokey eye. We particularly like that it’s formulated with natural butters and vitamins for a moisturising feel, which definitely comes through in the comfortable, creamy texture. And have we mentioned it’s under $15?

$12.99, available at Sephora.

Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm

We fold. It’s never nice to pick favourites, but face it – everyone does. So here’s to boldly proclaiming that Revlon has our lips and our souls with their revolutionary chubby balms that aren’t just beautifully pigmented, but are also a total dream to wear, with their velvety textures and minty fresh feel. There’re the Balm Stains, too, if you’re more into sheerer tones, though you might soon be won over by the rich colour payoff in the Matte Balms. And there’s just something so satisfying about owning a pack of ten and being able to pick from them like you would your prized Crayola.

$19.90, available at Watsons, Guardian, and leading supermarkets and hypermarkets.
