Alright, we’ve all conceded that Claire Danes singlehandedly won the night in her light-up Cinderella-esque Zac Posen gown, but there were also a ton of great looks not to be discounted at this year’s Met Gala. For those out of the loop, the annual celebrity benefit held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute boasted a particularly intergalactic theme this year – “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”. Very appropriate, given the fact that people from around the world were live streaming and watching the event on Instagram and Snapchat.
But as much as we loved Zayn’s Winter Soldier-meets-Tin Man from Wizard of Oz getup, ahh-ed in hushed respectful tones at Anna Wintour’s classic Chanel, and raised a questioning brow at Beyonce’s, err, acne suit, some other great outfits caught our eye – and deserve a bit more mention, we feel. So here are some of our less raved about favourites, which probably still cost as much as a HDB flat here. Ah, to be rich and famous.
For committing to the theme, right down (or up!) to her hair:
Ciara in H&M
For standing out in a sea of metallic dresses:
Dakota Johnson in Gucci
She obviously got a little bored of grey.
For proving that you don’t need blue contacts to make a fashion statement (sorry Kanye):
will.i.am in Gucci
For obviously giving no f***s about the theme:
Stacy Martin in MIU MIU
Just for being able to pull off a wool blazer and leather pants:
Lucky Blue Smith in H&M
Plus points for stunning arm candy.
And for everyone who doesn’t know why the Queen raised so many eyebrows,
Beyonce in Givenchy
Just FYI, each one of those pearls costs approximately US$6000.
We’ll say it again: Ah, to be rich and famous.
