We’re a mere three months away to Jay Chou, undisputed reigning king of Asian pop, descending upon the National Stadium for his “The Invincible” concert tour, and we sure hope you managed to snag your tickets before they sold out within hours. It’s a good time to start listening to all his albums on loop so you can sing along to all his latest and greatest hits at the concert – we’re keeping our fingers crossed that his setlist will include our favourite evergreen hits like “安靜” and “晴天”, as we’ll be singing along to those the loudest, for sure.
Here’s another idea for how to get ready for the concert: show your support for your idol by turning up all decked out in pieces from his streetwear label PHANTACi, which by the way, has just opened as a standalone store at orchardgateway. Chou started the brand in 2006 and it has since grown to four standalone stores within Taiwan with occasional pop-ups in the region – *SCAPE store Ground Zero last hosted the Singapore pop-up at the start of 2015 – but the orchardgateway store is the first official PHANTACi store outside of Taiwan.
The 1,200-square foot space on the second level of the mall features both menswear and womenswear collections, and as it’s actually a multi-label store, also look out for collaborations with international brands like Nike, Casio and Stüssy to bring in a wider variety of streetwear options.
As for PHANTACi’s own designs, the pieces in store now are from the Spring/Summer ’16 Fantasy by PHANTACi collection. We’re seeing lots of relaxed summer-appropriate silhouettes like tees, tank tops and shorts, emblazoned with slogans or colourful prints. In short, they’re made for the laid-back Singapore style, but designed well enough to not venture into the dreaded sloppy territory.
Graphic tees to pair with basics like denim shorts or jeans, to make for an instantly colourful outfit.
Or go for these slogan cropped tops to be matched with high-waisted bottoms, or if you’re up to it, to show off those abs.
For the men, strong graphic details on a variety of top designs all make a bold statement.
And of course, no streetwear label is complete without slogan caps and shades.
The pieces you’ll really want to quickly grab, however, are the PHANTACi Singapore store exclusives, a black cap and tee emblazoned with the brand logo and name, and on the back of the tee, the slogan “Never Give Up” in gold.
We know the Jay Chou fans probably have already or are planning to make a beeline for the PHANTACi store, but even if your knowledge of him is limited to your friends’ favourite Mandopop song selections at karaoke sessions, we think anyone with an appreciation for streetwear will like PHANTACi’s style.
