Metallic Lips: Yay Or Nay

A few months back, Kylie Cosmetics unveiled a trio of metallic matte liquid lipstick that caused very different reactions. While the slaves of King Kylie were frenzied and began their night-long camps in front of the computer screen, the rest of the world were sceptical. Technically, metallic lips aren’t new – they are pretty old actually. Having reigned in the 90s and also a few years back, everybody was pretty much done and dusted with these shimmering colours and have moved on to better things (i.e matte). Also, aren’t metallic lips just…frosted gloss? But I guess we were wrong; Kylie showed how influential she can be by bringing the metallic lips back into action – and it seems like it’s going to be the perfect Fall lip trend (or you know, rainy days here in Singapore).

These metallic lips by Kylie Cosmetics are currently out of stock (what’s new), but there are many ways to get yourself some of these alternative lips. We’ve wrapped up other brands that actually started carrying metallic lipsticks way before Kylie started them. So if you said “nay” to Kylie’s trio metallic lip debut a few months back, don’t ditch the metallic just yet; we think you’d definitely say yes to these.

Melted Metal in Violet, $15 (on sale), Sephora.

Cute packaging, long-wear formula, gorgeous colours and an easy precision-tip applicator. What’s not to love about Too Faced Melted liquid lipstick series? It was hard to say no when they released the metallic version of their cult favourite Matte liquid lipsticks; and even harder when we found out they had such a wearable, gorgeous shade of violet.

Ok, so what if we can’t look as stunning as Kathleen Lights? Given that it offers up to 16 hours of wear and it is so affordably priced, there’s no harm trying one, or all eight shades while we’re at it.

3. OFRA Cosmetics
OFRA Fifth AveOFRA Times Square
Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Fifth Ave and Times Square, USD19.90, ofracosmetics.com.

We’re all familiar with OFRA’s liquid lipstick. While they do not have a metallic lipstick collection, we think that both the glittering shades of silver (Times Square) and gold (Fifth Ave) make a great metallic sheen. Just layer them on top of a matte base lipstick and you’ll get your own metallic lips.

4. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics

Lip Tar in Black Metal Dahlia and Synth, USD12, occmakeup.com.

OCC isn’t new to the game. Their bestselling lip tars were one of the first ones that brought liquid lipsticks to fame. Now redesigned (complete with a doe-foot applicator), OCC offers a range of matte and metallic lipsticks in bold and crazy colours.

Colourpop’s done it again. Just a few days back, Colourpop’s metallic lips made a debut and it was sold out in minutes. We’re all waiting excitedly for their restocks. Get ready for a sleepless night, folks.

6. Jeffree Star Cosmetics

Jeffree Star’s metallic liquid lipsticks are set to launch in July (finally), using the all-time favourite Velour Liquid Lipstick formula. We can hardly wait for the most coveted launch this season.
