Beat that face – that’s a phrase borrowed from RuPaul’s Drag Race, one of our favourite guilty pleasures: eight seasons (and counting) of watching established drag queen RuPaul, the show’s host and mentor, put drag queen contestants against one another over various challenges in a bid to be crowned “America’s Next Drag Superstar”. And “beating” your face isn’t as painful as it implies: it’s actually drag lingo for applying the perfect amount of makeup in a continually dabbing motion, to achieve a flawless finish. The show has opened up a whole new world of beauty for us, and we’ve realised that there’s plenty we can learn from drag queens – they truly are makeup experts. Here, we’ve gathered what we’ve learnt and the tips we’ve picked up from the RuPaul contestants, to get you looking as fierce as they do.
