We’ve got our party hats and blowers on as Onitsuka Tiger Stripes prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary. We’re more than thrilled to witness such longstanding zest from these versatile kicks! But we can’t seem to outdo Alvin Tan from the design collective PHUNK, as he designs a reinterpretation of the iconic MEXICO 66 in his own vision in collaboration with the beloved sneaker brand.
We’re pretty much in love with the aesthetic of these shoes. Alvin took the classic MEXICO 66 and coated it in metallic finish, but not before re-imagining it with a sleek camel lining and rainbow lattice shoelaces. His piece, entitled The Reflection Of Colours And Silver Linings, depicts his take on the wonders and positivity in life through companionship. We’re more than marvelled by this thoughtful creation, and pridefully so, considering how distinctive the design looks.
For all you sneaker junkies out there, be sure to check out Alvin’s pensive piece at the Onitsuka Tiger Stripes 50th Anniversary exhibition the next time you’re in town. You’ll also be able to catch Onitsuka Tiger Stripe’s recent Fall/Winter collection, The Art Of Mixing, as well as the other 50 artist collaborations which we’re equally as psyched about.
Onitsuka Tiger Stripes 50th Anniversary exhibition, Pedder On Scotts.
