For all the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road, there stands one establishment that is pretty peaceful compared to the rest of the crowd. That place is Palais Renaissance. Located in between the sleaze of Orchard Towers and the towering façade of the Royal Thai Embassy, this glitzy shopping centre is like a hidden gem of sorts, home to a medley of stylish retail brands and plush dining venues.
Although there aren’t many restaurants here – there are only four in total – Palais Renaissance makes up for its lack of quantity with quality. And here’s all you need to know about this underrated dining destination.
Ishinomaki Grill & Sake Bar
If you love Japanese food, in particular robatayaki and izakaya, then you should definitely make a beeline for Ishinomaki Grill & Sake Bar. This rustic restaurant specializes in seafood dishes, and they even have what is called a “Black Box”, which is basically a collection of daily-changing fresh seafood that is flown in directly from Japan. The Black Box is available every Tuesday and Friday. Diehard foodies can also partake in Kaiseki, a traditional Japanese dinner-style that involves multiple-courses.

P. Bistro
P. Bistro packs all the different cuisines that make bistro grub great – think French, Italian, and even Asian fusion dishes. For instance, they serve Vietnamese-styled beef noodle soup and Nonya dory fish with Peranakan sauce and achar. Workers in the surrounding area can also look forward to extremely affordable lunch sets that start from $18 onwards over here.

Jing Hua Xiao Chi
There are plenty of fantastic Chinese restaurants in Singapore. But if you’re in the Orchard district and you’re looking for some traditional Chinese food, you can’t go too wrong with Jing Hua Xiao Chi. This 95-seater eatery serves up stuff like xiao long bao and pan-fried pork and seafood dumplings, while they’ve also got spirits like Chinese wine, shochu, and Scottish whisky in their alcoholic arsenal.

PS. Café
They say old is gold. For PS. Café, that saying cannot ring more true. The popular café chain is the OG of hip, indie dining spots, having opened within the Project clothing store in 1999. Now, diners can enjoy a unique assortment of dishes from one of Singapore’s favourite cafés at Palais Renaissance. Over here, there will be classic PS. Café dishes like PS crab and prawn laksa, spaghetti crab mee goreng, as well as crab and pork tagliolini.
