The New "Iridescent" Nike Air Max 1 iD Is Made Of Fairy Dust

If there were actually sneakerhead fairies (hey, not everyone needs to sport a Tinkerbell style, yes?) the latest Nike Air Max 1 offering might just be their sneak of choice. Before moving on, we’ll give you just a moment to marvel at it in all its iridescent glory:

Bless, Nike, bless. Amid all the minimalist tonal jazz that has been floating around the Internet (and our blog, too), it’s really about time something different pops up — and this new holographic one from the swoosh brand couldn’t have come at a better time. The shiny Air Max 1 iD may look like some her metallic cousins at first glance, but as all sparkly stuff we did a double take — and boy might we have a new topper on our sneaker-must-have list.

The sneaker doesn’t exactly boast the type of reflective, foil-like metallic that we’re accustomed to. It instead features a gentle pearlescent glow, leaning slighting towards the holographic-lilac side. Shreds of technicolour peek through the shimmery upper — such as the area above the laces, the heel tab, everywhere — as light hits the material at different angles as you walk. Everything’s kept minimal for the actual colour of the shoe to shine (literally, and pun intended), with white soles and laces, and a touch of black on the tongue. It’s nothing too in-your-face, and a perfect alternative for a pair of plain white sneakers should you want to switch things up with a (fairy) dust of soft shimmer.

Forget pastels, forget tonals, forget metallics — what we want now are holographic sneakers. Be it to match our opalescent highlight, or our prismatic lip glosses, or simply to add on to our ever-expanding shrine of magpie collectables, you can bet that we always have space for iridescent anything.
