The Nike Internationalist Ushers In The Satin Sneaker Trend

When it comes to sneaker materials, satin isn’t exactly the most conventional of choices — we’re more accustomed to seeing it used on cushions and curtains in posh hotels, but if the massive hype surrounding PUMA’s Basket / Suede Heart and Fenty Bow Sneaker in recent months was any indication it looks like the luxurious fabric is becoming an increasingly viable option to drape our kicks in. Of course, it was only a matter of time before other footwear brands started getting in on the action as well, and sure enough Nike has just unveiled a pair of satin-covered Internationalists to keep the potential trend going.

As is the case with most satin sneakers, the entire upper is covered in the material, which admittedly isn’t very practical in these rainy days that we’ve been having lately, but the resulting semi-reflective aesthetic sure is a pretty look nonetheless. Instead of going for an always-in-trend pink like it has for its past few models, these kicks opt for an equally-enticing light blue and lavender, while the lower half rocks a white midsole / gum sole combination that is slowly but surely becoming a signature look for the underrated silhouette. If you’re willing to put in the effort to prevent these kicks from getting wet, you’ll be treated to a shoe that’s definitely keeping up with the trends of today.

These satin-covered Nike Internationalists are currently slated for an international release on the 12th of May, and while information on where you can cop a pair hasn’t been revealed yet, you can probably count on them to appear on stockists such as Titolo as the date draws closer. If a name as big as Nike is starting to get in on the trend, it won’t be soon before other big brands start to follow suit, and if that means that we’ll be getting satin-covered Stan Smiths in the near future then there’s going to be a lot to look forward to in the next couple of months.
