The Fuss-Free Makeup Removal Options For When You Travel

As much as we hate to admit it, we’re guilty as charged — of constantly lugging around our entire vanities’ worth of makeup when we travel. Because who can survive on a week’s trip with just one lipstick? We need five. And only one foundation finish? What happens if we want to look dewy on Monday and matte on Tuesday? Don’t even get us started on eyeshadows — three palettes’ worth sounds about right.

Okay, so maybe that might have been a tad bit exaggerated, but you get us. Just one of each item can never be enough. Which is why we try to save space as much as we can — and the amount delegated for makeup removal products just so happens to be the one that gets cut down. Don’t get us wrong, cleaning our skin of makeup gunk is a process that we hold in high regard, because who wants to go to bed with traces of foundation still stuck in their pores? Not us, no thank you.
And while we can’t go to bed without properly removing our makeup with our HG Bioderma Sensibio H2O, lugging around bottles of micellar water and cotton pads may seem a tad… burdensome, especially when we’re trying to pack light. Cue all the gasps necessary, but for those who can live without their Bioderma for a week, we’ve got some equally kick-ass options that will guarantee an equally clean yet fuss-free makeup removal process.

1. Makeup Wipes

There have been articles against makeup wipes as makeup removers floating around online; derms feel that having textured sheets wiping across your face everyday might cause wear and tear to skin cells. But as long as you pick the right types of wipes, i.e. an effective formula and a gentle fabric, makeup wipes might, dare we say, one day take over micellar water. You literally just wipe off your entire mask of makeup and bin the sheet. Absolutely fuss-free and convenient. And that’s not even the best part yet — you’d be pleased to know that some of the most raved about makeup wipes come from the humble drugstore. We mean, even Kim K herself uses Neutrogena. ‘Nuff said.
L-R: Biore Makeup Remover Wipes, $15.90. Neutrogena Deep Clean Oil-Free Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes, $13.90. Both available at Watsons or Guardian stores. Sephora Cleansing Wipes – Coconut Water, $10, available at Sephora.

2. Makeup Remover Sticks

These makeup sticks can be comfortably slipped into your makeup pouches, taking up only the most necessary of space. Essentially oils in a tube, these sticks help break down even the toughest of makeup. Simply smear them across your face, then introduce (warm) water to emulsify the oils. Lather up and wash away. Not even a single drop of fuss given.
Clinique Take The Day Off Eye Makeup Remover Stick, US$18.50, available here. Urban Decay Meltdown Cleansing Oil Stick, $39, available at Urban Decay stores and Sephora.

3. Makeup Remover Gloves

Not many people subscribe to the whole remove-makeup-only-with-water shebang, but if you’re the kind to wear really, really, really light makeup, these gloves might actually work. All you have to do is wet the glove and get to (gently) wiping your makeup away. The micro-fibre fabric is supposed to penetrate oil and grime to effectively erase your entire day’s face. This Magic Mitt by Jane Iredale has gotten itself quite a following, with multiple positive reviews.
Jane Iredale Magic Mitt, $29, available here. Sephora Collection Water Cleansing Glove, $16, available at Sephora.
