The SmartBoy Transforms Your Samsung Phone into a Legit Working Gameboy

Have you always wanted to return to the good ol’ days of the Gameboy? If so, we’ve got great news for you. US-based company Hyperkin has recently launched what is called the SmartBoy, which is basically a phone accessory that’s able to convert your smartphone into a fully functioning Gameboy.
Now if that sounds awesome, that’s because it freakin’ is. Well, at least for Samsung fans anyway. Sorry Apple users, but Hyperkin only clinched an official licensing agreement with Samsung’s Mobile Accessory Partnership Program, so you guys have got to rely on emulators for the time being; which is not that bad to be honest.

Still, emulators can’t beat the SmartBoy when it comes to dishing out that same sense of nostalgia. This neat little gadget is not only compatible with actual Gameboy Original and Gameboy Color cartridges, it’s also designed in a manner to evoke the feeling of playing a proper Gameboy set, thanks to its classic tactile button layout.
Check out how it works below:

One good thing about the SmartBoy is that it does not require batteries to work, although it needs the phone to have a USB Type-C port, something like what the Galaxy S8 has. Another cool thing about it is that it’s also compatible with Game Boy Advance apps from Google Play.
Funny thing is, the SmartBoy was was originally an April Fool’s joke, but we’re so, so glad that isn’t the case anymore. It’s going to be pretty hard getting your hands on one though. The SmartBoy is only available in the U.S and Korean market, but if you bypass that slight problem, you can expect to score one for the price of US$49.99.
