See Why The Gucci Cruise 2018 Show Was So Breathtaking

The Cruise season is sending fashion people all over the world, with Dior showcasing their resort collection at the Calabasas desert set in California, Chanel bringing it back to home soil in the most romantic city, Paris, Prada’s first solo cruise collection held at Milan where they first opened their doors, and Louis Vuitton enriching their guests with Japanese culture in Kyoto. Needless to say, every venue is spectacular, and the pressure is on for the next Cruise collection presentation. Held at Palatina Gallery of the Pitti Palace, we think it’s safe to say that Gucci has exceeded all expectations.

The Location
The first to stage a show in this historic building, Gucci’s Cruise collection is not just about fashion. It is a celebration of the rich history and culture of the city of Florence, which holds a special meaning for Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, since he is constantly inspired by the city’s renaissance masterpieces. To preserve the rich heritage, Gucci announced that the brand will be partnering with Uffizi Gallery and the city itself on a multi-faceted cultural project called “Primavera di Boboli”, or Spring in the Boboli Gardens by contributing €2 million over the course of 3 years to help restore and improve the green space, retaining the legacy for future generations. A look at the show’s venue already had us marveling over the intricacies of the European paintings, we can’t imagine being there in person – we’ll probably just want to pack our bags and never want to leave Florence.

The Full Package
When it comes to fashion shows, it doesn’t just stop at the choice of a ravishing location. Most luxury fashion brands go all out to provide their guests with the ultimate show experience and the package is not complete without custom-made gifts that act as the invites to the show. For the Gucci Cruise 2018 invite, every guest gets a personalised cap made of hemp appliquéd with an embroidered butterfly and stamped with the time and location of all three Cruise collections that Alessandro Michele designed.

The Collection
Finally, the highlight. The show went into full throttle when the models walked down the runway, or should we say, through the seven separated rooms in the palace. First things first, this collection is a burst of an eclectic mix of bright vibrant colours, of course also featuring their signature red and green colourway. We’re talking yellow, green, purple, pink and orange, a wide spectrum of contrasting colours, really. Against the backdrop of Renaissance paintings by Titian, Raphael Perugino and more, the show opened with a green blouse cinched at the waist with a pink satin belt, contrasted with a pair of deep blue trousers with hints of orange. While the collection features the iconic double Gs found throughout the collection from tights, socks to coats and on graphic slogan tees, the detailed dragon and tiger embroideries and immaculate details were dedicated towards the accessories – the pearl embellished headpiece and gilded laurels – keeping audiences’ eyes peeled for more Gucci goodness. Quilted puffer jackets and pants are also seen on the models, with metallics making an appearance in between looks.
