Taobao’s Sister Platform Tmall Will Kick Off A Three-Day Massive Sale This Sunday

As true Singaporeans, we’re always looking out for great bargains online — so here’s a amazing piece of information that you need to hear of, in light of the upcoming Great Singapore Sales:
Tmall is having a massive sale this weekend! The kinds of massive that you can splurge on, absolutely guilt-free. You’ll thank us later. But just in case you’ve never heard of this one-stop shopping site, we’re gonna provide you some exciting context of what Tmall actually is:
Similar to Taobao, Tmall is the sister site under the Alibaba Group that has a focus placed more on promoting goods by both homegrown Chinese brands and major international brands. The site has an impressive array of overseas brands — tens of thousands at that — and just to name a few, we’re already eyeing UNIQLO, Vero Moda, ZARA and Massimo Dutti. That essentially means, for the styles that aren’t available in Singapore, you can very well purchase them through Tmall. It’s like shopping in a huge multi-storied department store with big brands, but all at the comfort of your home.
Here’s where it gets fun: In true GSS spirit, Tmall will be having a huge sale that entitles shoppers up to 50% off items across all product categories! What is very excitingly termed the Tmall 6.18 Mid-Year Mega Sale starts this weekend (June 18) and will last for three days, so that’s truly something to look forward to at the end of the work week.
Check out some of our top picks:

Off-Shoulder Pleated Dress With Crochet Detail

These are the kinds of dresses that we need in the humid Singapore weather, to keep cool and still look chic. The fit-and-flare cut of the dress falls right at the knee, and has an intricate crochet detailing with off-shoulder straps so that your arms and legs still get to… breathe. Pop on the dress by itself for a sprightly fairy look, or throw on a denim jacket (in air conditioned rooms, of course) for a more rugged street style.

One Piece Bird Print Swimsuit

Not everyone’s keen on a two-piece bikini, which honestly, can be a tad too revealing for our liking. In recent days, girls have been leaning towards the monokini as their choice swimwear, simply because we feel more secure in them and as a result, have more confidence when prancing around the beach. This set here looks very much like a cute A-line dress with bird motifs peppered all around the swimsuit, which we reckon will make for great IG pictures.

Black Strappy Pinafore Dress

With Koreans in the forefront of stylish street wear, it’s only understandable that we’d want to emulate their style tips and tricks. What we’ve learnt so far: Layering. And this strappy pinafore dress makes for the perfect layering piece, since you can pretty much pair it with whatever top you feel like. The midi style of the bottom half adds a further element of sophistication to the look, and we can see ourselves popping on a pair of oversized shades with the outfit for a lazy Sunday brunch.

Striped Layered Shorts with Waist Tie

Shorts are always a welcome addition to our wardrobes, considering how convenient they are to style and travel in. This pair of sailor-blue high-waisted shorts comes with white horizontal stripes for a lengthening effect (always a good idea), but what we are intrigued by is actually the short’s front detail. There’s an unusual mix of a button-down style and a ribboned bow, which gives the illusion of a skirt from the front that we find ourselves quite liking.

Off-Shoulder Floral Jumpsuit

Jumpsuits may not be the most convenient outfits when it comes to, ahem, answering nature’s calls, but with prints this gorgeous, our stance that the trouble is truly worth it stands. The off-shoulder style lends that bit of girly sophisticated to the entire look, while the floral detail makes for a good contrast to the otherwise simple design.

Flutter Sleeve Blouse

In case you haven’t already noticed, our style of dressing is usually geared towards adding hints of quirk into conventional designs, so that while we don’t look ordinary, we aren’t on the edge of crazy alternative too. It’s all about the balance, as they say. Check out these tops — they are pretty minimalist in nature, but that added flutter sleeve and neckline detail just gave the blouse a whole lot more personality. Plus, these come in pastel candy colours of pink and mint, which we never will quite say no to.

Gingham Sun Dress

Ask any style guru and they’ll gladly affirm the notion that checkered prints will never go out of style. Especially when they’re all over an airy sundress that we see ourselves wearing over and over again. Dresses like these give us lots of styling playroom — but what we are thinking off the tops of our heads is a classic model-off-duty look: leather biker jacket, checkered dress, choker and white sneakers.

And should you be interested in purchasing furniture or home decor for your humble abodes, hesitate no more, for both Taobao and Tmall have enabled sea freight as a new delivery option for bulky items, at a cheaper rate. Single products up to 100kg will be charged at RMB14.5 (excluding GST) for delivery, and consolidated packaged of up to 200kg at the same price.
But before you leave for your online shopping spree in a hurry — you’d be thrilled to know that Tmall and individual merchants on the platform are offering shoppers shopping vouchers that can be applied to your purchases during the sale. What’s more, UOB card users can enjoy S$5 cashback on RMB250 spent on Tmall!
All these items (and infinitely more) can all be browsed and purchased on world.taobao.com or on the Taobao mobile application 手机淘宝.
The Tmall 6.18 Mid-Year Mega Sale starts on June 18, and will end on June 20.
