You know how you go overseas, whether it’s Europe or nearby Japan, basically non-tropical countries, and you’ll find people happily sprawling on green lawns? Lucky them, huh. Well, we can now enjoy the same comforts in our backyard. Tiong Bahru Bakery (TBB) is here to make said lounging on grass a reality, and we’re talking the luxurious greenery of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. They’re encouraging us to get out of our homes for a two-day outdoor picnic event – Weird Wonderful World, from 8 to 9 July – as part of the festivities and activities that are happening during NParks’ Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival.
Families, couples, and friends are encouraged to head down to the iconic Bandstand and Palm Valley areas, where there will be pop-up stalls from TBB and their partners – as the bakery provides patrons with hearty sandwiches and desserts, we’ll also be getting coffee from Common Man Coffee Roasters, wines and ciders from Open Farm Community, gluten-free snacks from Open Door Policy, and more.

As for the activities, there’ll be games such as Connect 4 and Giant Twister (when was the last time you played that?), yoga in the morning, workshops, as well as buskers to entertain. You can also take part in the events that are part of the larger festival, including children’s craft making activities, or stay past dusk for concerts at both the Bandstand and Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage. Or bring a board game, and spend some quality time being highly competitive. Whatever it is, there’s plenty to do, and plenty to eat – all you have to do is get out of the house.
