Okay honestly, as much as we all aspire to own a Chanel, or to be there at one of Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic runway shows, you know that unless you’re prepared for a major splurge, the chances of having one you can lovingly stroke is pretty low. Now the creative director of both the esteemed fashion houses of Chanel and Fendi is certainly an icon, and we’d part with good money to have one of his designs — it’s part of history! — but we’ll let you in on a secret… You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars for that. Say hello to the KARL LAGERFELD collection, every bit as lovingly designed, and cute to boot, since the ready-to-wear apparel and accessories all pay tribute to the signature look of your favourite designer (and his cat!).
The KARL LAGERFELD Fall/Winter collection will be available exclusively at Robinsons The Heeren, in three separate drops. The first, called KARL THE PHOTOGRAPHER, is a capsule collection that’s part of the brand’s Pre-Fall collection, and is inspired by the man’s love of photography, a “hobby” that sees him avidly photograph plenty of fashion icons and personal muses. Here, we get a contemporary cartoon figure of Karl and his famous cat, Choupette, in various playful graphics that depict them in the middle of some serious phone photography, across all kinds of accessories that include totes ($539), pouches ($259) and t-shirts ($179).
What’s truly fascinating is that this iPhone case is priced at $49, while you can drop $569 for a sturdy backpack.
There’s also this adorable Karl Photographer Minaudiere ($299) to consider, for the next time you’ve invited to a grand event, or you know, everyday life if you like some sparkling glitter in your wardrobe.
As for these classy cuties, they’re part of the KARL IKONIK collection that will be out in August. Lagerfeld puts a playful twist on a crossbody bag ($426) that prominently features his face and holographic sunglasses, another minaudiere ($316) you ought to own, and a shoulder bag ($469) that’s more minimalist though with his handwritten signature in metallic silver. All the pieces see a sophisticated black-and-white palette pulled together with silver accents and appliqués, which make them something to covet.
There’s stuff you’d wanna take with you on your next flight out too, including a roomy weekender bag ($699), passport holder ($56) and a cap ($99).
Next month will also be when selected pieces from the mainline drop — these include accessories from the KARL LAGERFELD Fall/Winter collection, which are more subdued but also slightly more timeless than the other drops. We get a nice play on black/white contrast with the K Metal Signature Shoulder Bag ($769), that has Karl’s signature in glossy metallic hardware, while the K Paris Micro Tote ($369) and Shoulder Bag ($599) reference the City of Love with glittery patches and subtle rock-star hardware. See what we mean? None of these items cross above the $1,000 mark, and yet, you know you can definitely wake up to a bit of Lagerfeld by your side.
