Here's Why Faux Freckles Are Making A Huge Comeback

As of late, we’ve noticed a tweak in preference when it comes to foundation coverage. Instead of masking every bit of skin with intense pigments, makeup artists and beauty enthusiasts alike are opting for a diffused, sheer coverage to ring in the season of summer. With that lighter opacity comes visible freckles, more are letting their tiny sun-spots peek through – the perfect time to embrace a fresh face.
We’re not just referring to natural freckles here, though. Yup, people have been reaching out for their brown eyebrow pencils to dot faux freckles over their nose and cheeks. It may sound a little confusing, after all, why would anyone draw freckles on their face? We’ll allow Selena Gomez’s new makeup look do the talking.

A couple weeks back, the singer released an official video for her latest single “Fetish“. While the camera was mostly locked in on her lips, the freckles that were sprinkled across her nose and cheeks were the centre of attention. Apparently, a ton of people were upset over those faux freckles, which her makeup artist Hung Vanngo admitted to dotting on, but we’re actually all for it.

Yes, freckles have caused a great deal of distress amongst those who have to live with them, but if this makeup trend has taught us anything, it’s that it’s time to embrace these so-called flaws and make ’em work. We’ve witnessed it too – an increasing amount of individuals are no longer interested in burying them deep in layers of makeup.
If you’d like to give yourself some freckling without having to ink them on, use a brown eyebrow pencil to get on board the speckled train. You can also pick up the Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon in the shade Earthquake, as used on Selena herself. With a light hand, draw on your freckles in varying sizes, mimicking their natural appearance, and pat it all down with a makeup sponge when you’re done.
