We love our pets. That’s why we want the best for them. If that includes bringing them out for fun activities, like picnics or an outing at the beach, then so be it. Sadly, public transport disagrees. Till now, it’s been difficult for pet owners to bring their furry friends around if they don’t own a car, but that’s all going to change thanks to Uber.
The ride-hailing app launched uberPET today (Oct 20), an option which allows customers to book a driver that’s willing to accept pets in his or her car.
uberPET is not a new initiative by any means, although Singapore will be the first city in Asia to enjoy this option, and to recognise that, Uber will be waiving off the $2 booking fee (that is required on top of the UberX fare) till Dec 31, 2017.
“With uberPET, riders can be assured that their driver is comfortable to have pets on the ride,” the company said in a press release. “All uberX driver-partners on uberPET have opted into this programme and understand that there will be an animal on board.”
Animals that are allowed under the uberPET scheme dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, hamsters, birds in cages, and fish in bowls or plastic bags. There is one slight caveat however. A human rider must accompany all animals, and if a customer wants to ferry more than one pet, it is left up to the driver.
And if sh*t hits the fan, or in this case, the car seat, customers must fork out cash in the event a car needs to be cleaned. Uber mentioned however that “minor incidents such as fur shedding” will not be charged to the rider.
