Heads up, all you alfresco-dining lovers: there’s currently a restaurant takeover at local café and restaurant Open Farm Community! For three weeks only, you can try award-winning culinary collective Paris Popup’s French creations. Called “Kampong French”, the restaurant takeover features a selection of sharing plates that have a fusion of French and local flavours.
Really, it’s an international chef cooking kampong-style flavours. Chef Harry Cummin, Sommelier Laura Vidal, and Julia Mitton have set up over 30 temporary restaurants in recent years, and will now bring their 35th pop-up to Open Farm Community. We’re not entirely sure how the food will taste, but the menu looks like it’s worth a try – especially since Chef Harry’s culinary pedigree has brought him from El Celler de Can Roca in Spain to Frenchie in Paris.
You can try the plate with the Shrimp Chawanmushi, Edible Garden City Sorrel, and Young Coconut ($16) or for the more adventurous – the 6 Piece Froggets with Fish Sauce Caramel ($18). Otherwise, you can also try their version of an omakase meal, where the chef will bring out six savoury dishes and two desserts to share ($65 per person). You can also have a selection of natural wines, carefully chosen by sommelier Laura Vidal ($50 per person). All plates are entrée-sized and are meant for sharing, so no hogging all six coveted Frogget pieces to yourself, okay? You’re completely missing the point of Open Farm Community if you do.
We like Open Farm Community for its farm-to-table approach, a concept that hasn’t quite caught on yet in Singapore. It’s not simply a restaurant with a garden (although it’s a lusciously green garden), but it’s also a place that brings us locally sourced dishes. They’re trying to teach us that growing food together in an urban space brings a sense of communities, and we’re certainly lapping it up because why wouldn’t we want to feel-good about our food when it tastes good?
“Kampong French” comes as an all-day dining menu with 12 sharing plates and 2 desserts. Prices range from $14 to $28 for the sharing plates, and desserts from $11 to $12. It will take place from Monday, 13 Nov to Sunday, 3 Dec, and is available for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Open Farm Community is located at 130E Minden Road, Singapore 248819. Opening Hours: Monday to Friday, 12pm to 3pm, 6pm to 11pm; Weekends and Public Holidays, 11am to 4pm, 6pm to 11pm. Tel: 6471 0306.
