A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was great furniture of every kind to behold. For most us living in reality though, making our homes look like something out of Tatooine or Naboo was nothing but a pipe dream – fanciful but not going to happen.
Well, that’s all going to change thanks to indie designer collective Grafunkt, which has just launched a special Star Wars-themed collection in collaboration with Disney.
The collection, which features a series of collectible sculptures, is meant to commemorate the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Dec 14. Each sculpture can be used as a stool/side table, while being modelled after iconic characters.
There’s the Sandcrawler, Millennium Falcon, TIE-Fighter, and AT-AT for fans to geek out over, with each character chosen for very specific design reasons.
For instance, the Millennium Falcon and TIE-Fighter are meant to represent the “duality of the Light and Dark side”, while the AT-AT and Sandcrawler were picked for their “strong visual and architectural aspects”.
“I am stoked to have the opportunity to collaborate with Disney on this collection as Star Wars is very much a part of me and my generation’s life with its imperative pop culture impact and influence,” said Nathan Yong, co-founder of Grafunkt.
“Being a classic film while its contemporaries fade into obscurity, Star Wars remains timeless, accompanying us from boyhood through adulthood.”
Scoring each piece isn’t going to come cheap though. Prices range from $5,400 to $8,400, although if you’re interested, the Star Wars x Grafunkt collection will be available from Dec 1 onwards at the Takashimaya Star Wars Pop-up store, Grafunkt store at Millenia Walk, and online at theartling.com.
