What are two things in the world marketed to death? Why, Star Wars and Marvel of course. Blame Disney’s insane popularity, but people aren’t going to stop yapping anytime soon about how the latest Thor movie incorporated too much “humour”, or why Kylo Ren can’t stop acting like a pissy little kid who is weirdly obsessed with the Dark Side.
And of course, kids dig that stuff too, which explains Garmin’s decision to join forces with Disney to launch a new activity tracker for children with Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel-themed bands. Called the vívofit jr. 2, the new tracker features cute designs of fan favourite characters, like BB-8, Minnie Mouse, and Captain America.
But it’s more than just an adorable gadget for you to wrap around your kiddo’s wrist. It’s a legit performer as well. Case in point: the tracker works like any other fitness device out there. Parents can help get their children fit by achieving 60 minutes of activity each day, while there are themed “missions” that unlock new character step icons. Plus, it’s swim-friendly too.
Oh, and personalisation with this thing is the bomb. Parents get to review their children’s daily activities, assign chores that show up as icons (thank God this didn’t exist when we were growing up), while scheduling alerts for kids to finish their homework, brush their teeth, and yeah, you get the drift.
It’s pretty similar to the dokiWatch – the world’s first smartwatch for kids, just that Garmin’s new gadget has that sweet Disney appeal. If you’d like to score the vívofit jr. 2, it’ll be available for $149, and is available at authorised retailers like Popular, Harvey Norman, Takashimaya, and Best Denki (each additional band costs $45, while the tracker is designed for children aged 4 to 6).
