If there’s one universal truth, it’s that growing up is never easy. Thing is, shit gets a lot more complicated when your parents are famous. First of all, you’re automatically placed on this pedestal, where pressure to succeed is the norm. Secondly, there’s that nasty task of stepping out of their shadow – not fun at all.
It’s not a situation that most of us normal people can relate to, but for the cast of Growing Up Supermodel, it’s practically daily life. The new reality TV series, which premieres on Jan 23, 9pm (SIN/HK) on LIFETIME, follows a group of hot young models risking it all to live up to the careers of their famous parents.
Cast members include the children of Ricky Schroder, Cambrie and Faith Schroder, Oscar De La Hoya’s and Shanna Moakler’s daughter, Atiana De La Hoya; as well as Arissa Le Brock, Cairo Peele, Jake Morritt, and Janis Ostojic.
Like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, who both sport famous surnames, the new celebrity kids are banking on their DNA to make the cut. But they’re about to find out that things won’t be that easy. Plus, their parents are involved in the show too, so there’s awkwardness and unresolved family issues lingering in the background.
It all makes for a very entertaining show, and one that offers a different dimension to all the bitching and drama of Asia’s Next Top Model. If anything, it just goes to show that even though some people are born with a golden spoon in their mouths, it takes a lot more than just having famous parents to make it in life.
Growing Up Supermodel premieres on Jan 23, 9pm (SIN/HK) on LIFETIME, Singtel TV Ch 302 and Starhub TV Ch 514. For more information, visit mylifetime.com.
