Raffles City Singapore x Jo Malone London Give Us The Most Whimsical Christmas Tree This Festive Season

Just like the highly-anticipated festive display at the world-famous Rockefeller Center in New York. you know it’s officially Christmas when Raffles City Singapore debuts their always-stunning and enchanting Christmas Tree over at the External Quartzite area, which kicks off the festive season in elaborate style.

This year’s display is done in collaboration with Jo Malone London, for a one-of-the-kind Raffles City Singapore x Jo Malone London Christmas tree that towers at 15 metres, and is beautifully accompanied with a carousel of gingerbread horses and sleighs. Oversized candies, striped candy canes and black Jo Malone London gift boxes further bring to mind the fragrance brand’s theme of a gingerbread wonderland. Hands down, best whimsical display we’ve seen in town!

And it gets better — the tree is even more stunning at night, and will fill you up with child-like wonder when you see it lit up with twinkling lights against the backdrop of the mall; it’s a pretty surreal sight to witness this lovely blend of fantasy and delight in the middle of our urban environment. The lighting-up of the Christmas Tree plays on this as well, with an a cappella choir that romanced the audience with Christmas carols, and modern dancers who brought to life the charming Christmas tale.

Here’s a video that recaps the night’s events:

The Jo Malone London Holiday Collection

There are, additionally, several limited-edition Jo Malone London collections we can look forward to.

Jo Malone London Ginger Biscuit.
Jo Malone London Wild Bluebell.

Then, there’s this year’s seasonal scent, the Ginger Biscuit, which, when spritzed on, makes one smell exactly like a domestic goddess. The scent is irresistibly charming yet sensual, of warm notes spiced with ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and caramel, and then housed in a biscuit-coloured glass topped off with a striped bow.

These 5 Essential Travel Gadgets will improve the quality of your next trip

If you love to travel, technology is here to help. Here are five new and useful gadgets that will make your next flight infinitely better.

1. Twelve South AirFly Pro Bluetooth Transmitter

This little gadget is a life-changer; it can wirelessly connect your own bluetooth-enabled earbuds or headphones to devices that only have a wired jack, or no bluetooth connectivity — such as an airplane seat. So instead of having to use those wiry earphones given out by the airlines, you can enjoy audio from your AirPods Pro or Bang & Olufsen headphones (or whatever else you use). It’s quite simple to set up as well; just plug it in, turn it on, then sync it to your headset.

This Pro version also lets you connect two sets of headphones to one device for shared listening. So if you and your partner or kid insist on staring at the same screen on the plane, you could use this to listen to its audio together.

$84, available from apple.com.

2. Wireless Bottle Mist Humidifier

Every time I fly to Japan during Winter, I’m always reminded how dry the air is. This bottle puffs out a steady stream of vapour, which helps to humidify the immediate air around you. I find that this helps with sinuses as well, especially when the mist is aimed directly at the face. It makes breathing more comfortable in drier climates, plus you can leave it on overnight in the hotel room next to you as you sleep. It works wirelessly and isn’t terribly big, which makes it portable and good for travel. I wish I discovered this sooner.

$12.96, available in White (featured here) and pink from SHOPEE.

3. Journey Swiv 3-1-in-1 Wireless Charging Station

Here’s a 3-in-1 charger that lets you charge a smartphone (one with wireless charging capabilities like an iPhone), Apple Watch, and earphones with a wireless charging case. If you use the Apple ecosystem of products, this charger will prove extremely useful. Just set it up on your nightstand wherever you go, and place your three mobile devices down on it to charge.

It folds in neatly so you can pack it into your bag with ease, and a USB-C to USB-C cable is included in the box, so all you need is your own wall charger with a USB-C port. Most hotels are still stuck on USB-A as their default port for charging accessories, so I would highly recommend bringing your own charging head.

US$119.99, available at JOURNEYOFFICIAL.COM.

4. Rolling Square Cables

In my Google search for travel gear, I kept getting pushed the ads for Rolling Square, a tech company that specialises in pretty special cables, and I ultimately succumbed to the advertising and got these two:

This is the inCharge 100W cable in XL and X sizes. It has a USB-A, USB-C and lightning head to fast-charge any USB-C smartphone, like the new iPhone 15 series and can also pretty swiftly charge iPhones that still use the lightning port.

It also works for charging laptops and iPads, and because the cables are short and flat, they can be packed in easily to any gadget pouch or even your pocket should you need it on the plane.

inCharge X and XL 6in1 universal 100w cable, $29 each.

5. Hobolite Mini and Micro Continuous Lights

I recently discovered Hobolite through their collaboration with Leica Akademie China. This lighting brand was established in 2021, and offers portable bi-colour continuous lighting solutions, like their Mini and Micro lights.

These little boxes of light are, if anything, beautiful. They resemble retro tools used by photographers, but they sport modern technology, including remote bluetooth connectivity to smartphones. The colour temperature of the LEDS are adjustable (from cool daylight to warm incandescent), and they can be screwed on to tripods and of course the whole suite of Hobolite accessories.

It’s certainly bright enough to be used as an on-camera continuous light, and it’s a conversation starter. Every person who has seen these lights now want their own — and this is before I can even turn them on and demonstrate how bright they can be. As you can see, they are both small enough to go into my travel kit.

Hobolite Micro 8W Bi-Color Continuous LED Light, from US$159.99 and mini 20w Bi-Color Continuous LED Light, from US$299. Full review of hobolite coming soon, plus local availability to be announced.

Swatch’s Festive Collection Includes Two Watches Inspired By The Simpsons On Holiday

The festive season’s glad tidings are about to be made even sweeter with the debut of two latest Swatch x The Simpsons watches, sans the animated series’ iconic donut perhaps, though this collaboration does feature just-as-warm holiday scenes starring the entire Simpson family.

The first style, WONDROUS WINTER WONDERLAND, brings together festive red and cute gingerbread cookies, done in the style of our favourite characters, all lined up across a snow-dappled strap. The dial itself is a welcome scene of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie coming together for a couple of heartwarming carols.

WONDROUS WINTER WONDERLAND (SUOZ361): $150

Then, there’s the icy-cool TIDINGS OF JOY watch, which adds festive cheer thanks to its snowy backdrop where Marge and Homer run along the smaller watch’s strap, just as their children Bart, Lisa, and Maggie take centre stage on the dial. The scene on the watch is, in fact, inspired by the very first episode of the beloved animated series, while the Simpsons Holiday Special also sees contrasting red hands that glow in the dark, and a bio-sourced case and glass.

L – R: WONDROUS WINTER WONDERLAND (SUOZ361), $150 ; TIDINGS OF JOY (SO28Z126), $135.

Swatch Holiday Collection

Swatch also gives us more ways to glow up this season, with a Holiday Collection that glitters and shines in all the right ways; these make perfect gifts for yourself or a cherished loved one. These watch designs are modern interpretations of the holiday season, and thus do away with the traditional red and green theme, in favour of playful colour, shimmering finishes or iridescent accents.

Some of our favourites ones include the metallic finishes of the fuchsia and gemstone-inspired deep green watches, complete with festive star etchings to commemorate the season, as well as those with dashes of luminous yellow and green that stand out against sun-brushed black. A series of golden watches round off the collection, for a touch more sophistication where necessary.

Festive Feels With These G2000 Looks, feat. Hannah Cheng-Bradshaw, Eli Woo and Jesper Chai

How’s your calendar looking for the rest of the year? If it’s anything like ours, then your weeks are starting to get filled up with holiday events and parties, which then brings about this pertinent question — what do we wear? Not to fret, here’s one scenario we’ve at least prepared for: the office Christmas party.

Sure, it might be the last place you’ll think to be creative with your fits, but that’s exactly why a little effort will stand out. Ahead, we’ve put together a lookbook, starring G2000‘s fitting apparel, to show how holly,  jolly and un-boring workwear can be when we take it offline; think HR-approved, office-appropriate attire, with a festive twist.

PHOTOGRAPHED BY MUNSTER CHEONG.
styled by JOSIAH CHUA.
MAKEUP BY, GINGER LYNETTE.
HAIR BY JAMES CHIUN.
ASSISTED BY JOVAN TEO and GLIN GWEE.
MODELLED BY HANNAH CHENG-BRADSHAW, ELI WOO, and JESPER CHAI FROM BASIC MODELS.
On Hannah — Veronica Soft Touch Stretchable Flare Trench Dress with Belt, $159 ; Cobie Soft Touch Stretchable Twill Cropped Shirt, $79. | On Jesper — Super Light Mercerized Cotton Rich Placket Polo, $69; Versatile Soft Cotton Stretch Chinos, $99; shoes, Rad Russel Gentleman Double Monk Strap, $228.
L – R. On Eli — Flannel Casual Shirt, $79; Soft Multi Way Stretch Casual Slim Tapered Fit Pants, $99; shoes, Rad Russel Chelsea Boots, $328. | On Jesper — Super Light Mercerized Cotton Rich Placket Polo, $69; Compact Multi Way Stretch Suit, $249; Compact Multi Way Stretch Suit Pants, $99; shoes, Rad Russel Gentleman Double Monk Strap, $228.

Bright, prismatic lights certainly herald the holiday season, and so do these subtly red-and-green looks. Eli dons a muted green button-down shirt that’s a classic when paired with deep navy and brown tones, while Jesper sports a red polo tee, a casual piece that looks great with suspenders, or when worn under a tailored blazer. As for Hannah, her creamy combo of a cinnamon-toned trench dress over a white shirt is the kind of chic layering that’s welcome under the cooling blast of central air-conditioning.

L – R. On Hannah — Tweed Flare Dress, $199. | On Jesper — Non Iron Cotton Stretch Shirt, $89; Compact Multi Way Stretch Suit, $249; Soft Multi Way Stretch Casual Slim Tapered Fit Pants, $99. | On Eli — Poplin Wrinkle Free Printed Casual Shirt, $69 ; Compact Multi Way Stretch Suit, $249; Compact Multi Way Stretch Suit Pants, $99; shoes, Rad Russel Gentleman Double Monk Strap, $228.
L – R. On Eli — Poplin Wrinkle Free Printed Casual Shirt, $69;  Telford Poly Twill Suit Blazer, $209; Telford Poly Twill Suit Pants, $79; shoes, Rad Russel Chelsea Boots, $328. | On Jesper — Non Iron Cotton Stretch Shirt, $89; Compact Multi Way Stretch Suit, $249; Soft Multi Way Stretch Casual Slim Tapered Fit Pants, $99; shoes, Rad Russel Gentleman Double Monk Strap, $228.

For more formal events, you may stick to sharp silhouettes of course, though it’s a lot more fun to play up textures and colours. Dapper suits are paired with shirts with a glossy sheen; Eli’s blue suit is made bolder when worn with a printed shirt, with a colourful pattern that’s reminiscent of candy and confetti; and Hannah’s dress is worthy of any employee-of-the-month as it’s done in sophisticated tweed. We also like how Jesper’s look features classic colours with little touches of creativity, including a cropped pant cut to show off one’s socks, and a matching scarf worn just under the collar.

On Jesper — Super Light Mercerized Cotton Rich Placket Polo, $69; Versatile Soft Cotton Stretch Chinos, $99; shoes, Rad Russel Gentleman Double Monk Strap, $228.
On Eli — Flannel Casual Shirt, $79; Compact Multi Way Stretch Suit, $249; Versatile Soft Cotton Stretch Chinos, $99; shoes, Rad Russel Lace-Up Oxford.

It’s, often, all about the accessories when it comes to men’s styling. If you find yourself asking how different can a shirt-blazer-pant combo look, then you’ve come to the right place. Circling back to the pair of suspenders worn by Jesper, these can look just as dashing when worn over a crisp shirt, as a way to add visual contrast. As for Eli, his attire opts for dark tones of grey that look particularly synergistic when worn together, topped off with a bow tie for a hint of the holiday feels.

On Hannah — Bessie Crepe Crinkle Stand Collar Waterfall Tie Blouse, $59; Soft Touch Stretchable Plainweave Blazer, $159 ; Sabrina Cotton Rich Soft Touch Stretchable Twill Slim Boot Pants, $79.
On Hannah — Tweed Flare Dress, $199.

Proportions are more important than we pay heed to, so here’s where the right fit shines. A cropped blazer, cut right above the hip, works wonders to elongate the legs, especially when paired with slightly flared, bootleg-cut pants. Any corporate girlie gets to enter rooms with flair as well, thanks to this tweed dress, made better with ankle boots, instead of heels or flats, that instantly elevate the outfit; trust us, everyone will make way for you to stand front and centre for the group pictures.

NYLON’s December 2023 Cover Girl — SORN, And The Thai K-Pop Star’s Journey As A Solo Artist

Above: Loewe Jacket (editor’s own)
Makeup: Chanel LUMIÈRE GRAPHIQUE EXCLUSIVE CREATION, $128
Chanel Rouge coco bloom in 120 freshness, $62

With an impressive 11 years of music industry experience under her belt, you’d think k-pop star and Thai singer SORN would be a bona fide pro by now — which she is, judging from how she exudes an aura of seasoned confidence in front of the lens — though that’s not what she tells us during a, perhaps more comfortable, chat while we’re both seated on the couch after the cover photoshoot.

You see, this is a girl who’s used to navigating the, often brutal, world of k-pop since she was a teenager, having left her home country of Thailand at the young age of 15, in order to move to South Korea to pursue her dream of being a k-pop idol; as you might already know, she did, in fact, achieve that dream, by being a part of popular 7-member girl group CLC. So what’s a girl to do once her dreams have come true? Make new ones — though that’s not without its challenges.

For the last two years, SORN’s dream — and reality — is of being a solo artist, someone who’s in-charge and in command of the next stage of her music career. She has since released over five English-language singles in record time, and while this is exciting and fulfilling in many ways, the 27-year-old is honest enough to admit that going solo is, often, a double-edged sword.

On one hand, she gets to be her own person and is empowered by her total creative freedom, “now that I’m by myself, the only person I ask approval from is myself — if I’m comfortable, if I like it, if I want to put this out for my fans to listen to”, she tells us. On the other hand, she’s also aware of how lonely that journey can be, since she has had to forge ahead without six other members by her side:”It’s been two years since I’ve been doing this on my own, but I’m still not really used to it. Sometimes, I do miss having that support, but I think I’ve grown a lot in a really short period of time, as most artists do.”

Above: saint laurent jacket (editor’s own)
Makeup: Diorshow 5 couleurs, limited edition in shade 543 promenade dorée, $122
rouge dior in shade 999 velvet finish, $62

That relatable sentiment is mirrored in her recent track, “Rowdy”, a darkly powerful dance-pop anthem where, on the surface, she’s upfront and disparaging towards the dissenters and unnecessary noise in her life. She’s bold, her voice of cool, unwavering confidence as she tells them to “sit back down”. Dig a little deeper though, and you’ll find that this is the musician’s way of expressing her pent-up frustration, of processing those feelings and releasing it into the world via her craft. The song further marks an important point in her sonic journey, as she elaborated on how recording it had challenged her immensely — she had to experiment with a new vocal style, as well as rap on the track, both firsts for her.

And since we’re talking about firsts, fans will be glad to hear that they can soon catch SORN live at her upcoming solo concert, presented by Viu Scream Dates, happening on 25 November at the Capitol Theatre Singapore. “It’s a big moment for me,” she said. “It will be the first time in a while where a lot of my fans get to see me live, while it’s also meaningful because I do have friends and family flying in from Thailand and Korea; it’ll be their first time seeing me on stage as a soloist.” Ahead, we catch up on how she feels about these pivotal stages in her career, just as she gives us a glimpse of her upcoming plans.

WHAT SHE HAS BEEN UP TO LATELY

“I’ve started venturing on my own as a solo artist, for almost two years now, and recently, I’ve been prepping for my first-ever solo concert, coming up on November 25 — and prepping to release an EP too, next year. It’s just been a super hectic past few months for me.

I do fly around quite a bit, between South Korea, Singapore and Thailand pretty often, though I’d call Singapore my base because my management company is also based here. I make most of my music here in Singapore too, though I have another set of producers, and a whole team in South Korea, and also in Los Angeles.”

HER PASSION FOR MUSIC

“I enjoy being on stage, but to be really honest, when I became less active with the group [CLC] in general, I was thinking of quitting music — but I think my passion for music is so strong that I kind of wanted to give myself a second chance. So that’s why I’ve been venturing on my own, doing my solo music stuff.

I also really enjoy having people say that they get joy from listening to my music, or seeing my presence, on social media and things like that. That’s something that makes me really happy, and something that pushes me to just keep putting out songs and have myself be seen by people all around the world.”

ON GOING SOLO — HOW IT WAS A TOUGH TRANSITION FOR HER

“I’ve been with my members for 10 years, and I’ve worked with them as a team from when I was a teenager all the way till my early 20s. It’s an important phase in a person’s life, and I’ve definitely learned a lot from being with the group. I did create this sort of attachment to being with them, because I was just so used to having six other humans around me all the time when I work.

When I started doing my solo music and activities however, it’s a completely different world. Now, I have to take responsibility for everything I do. I don’t have people standing on stage with me, which is a very big thing for me because I’m so active; I’m a pop singer, so I’m not just standing there holding a mic and singing, I’d be dancing on stage, and I’m used to having six other people fill up that energy on the stage. Not having that left a big hole in my performance, which gets super stressful because now I have to bring all that energy myself. I do have backup dancers, but it’s different knowing that everyone who’s looking up on stage is looking at you, and only you, there’s no one else to share the stage with. When it comes to music and concepts and filming as well, everything comes out of my brain, my creativity, where previously, I was able to hear ideas or opinions from my other members.

It’s been two years since I’ve been doing this on my own, but I’m still not really used to it. Sometimes, I do miss having that support, but I think I’ve grown a lot in a really short period of time, as most artists do.”

AND YET, HOW SHE’S CURRENTLY ENJOYING HER CREATIVE FREEDOM

“I do like the fact that I am able to be more creative with the stuff that I put out though. I don’t have to ask people for like, approval, or care too much about what everyone thinks about certain music or if they’ll be comfortable with certain concepts. Now that I’m by myself, the only person I ask approval from is myself — if I’m comfortable, if I like it, if I want to put this out for my fans to listen to. I like how I have the creative freedom to just do whatever I want to do.”

HER LATEST SINGLE, “ROWDY”

“When I make music, I often base my lyrics off situations that are happening in my life. So like before, when I made “Nirvana Girl”, that was when I had left my old company and I felt like I wasn’t myself as much, and how I’m trying to find my new self; “Not A Friend” was made during a time when I had personal friendship problems as well. “Rowdy”, then, was written when I felt like people around me were telling me what to do and having so much opinions about my life, it was like, you are being so rowdy, leave me alone, you do you, I do me, and I don’t need your opinion. That’s that’s how “Rowdy” came about.

The single was also challenging because it’s a very “dance-y” kinda song, and the producer wanted me to rap in it. That was challenging because I’m more of a vocalist, so for me to, all of a sudden, sing in a lower tone with rap on top, we were debating quite a bit on whether to add the rap section in or not. The song itself also features, not a singing chorus, but more of a shouting type of chorus, which is a vibe I’m really not used to. I was challenging myself in every possible way! But I’m glad that it turned out well.”

WHAT SHE’S CURRENTLY LISTENING TO

“I’ve been listening to a lot of LANY. It’s a genre where people might be like ‘oh, you listen to them?’, when in fact, I barely listen to k-pop at all, and I only listen to pop music just to keep myself updated with the music market. I really enjoy more indie pop or indie rock music!”

WHAT’S NEXT IN HER CAREER

“I have my first solo concert on November 25. We’re blessed to be able to have one here in Singapore, because I remember telling my friends last year how I’d one day be able to have my own concert, but I didn’t know that that would be so soon! It will be the first time in a while where a lot of my fans get to see me live, while it’s also meaningful because I do have friends and family flying in from Thailand and Korea; it’ll be their first time seeing me on stage as a soloist. I’ve done shows overseas, like my first big show was in Indonesia for a festival, and then performances at closed-door events, but I don’t think anyone has seen me singing onstage before, so it’s a big moment for me.

I will also be flying off to L.A. soon to start on my EP, which I hope to release mid next year. I’m super excited for that too because, so far, I’ve got five singles, and I know a lot of friends have been asking when I’m going to release an EP or an album. Oh, and I might be dropping another single before the end of the year, and another song coming out next year, so yeah, two upcoming singles within the next three months!”

Tiffany & Arsham Studio & Pokémon: A Tiffany Blue® Poké Ball And Pokémon-Themed Jewellery

Avid trainers, or in this case, jewellery collectors, have newfound reason to catch ’em all, thanks to this latest collaboration by Tiffany & Co., which sees them teaming up with contemporary artist, Daniel Arsham, and unexpectedly, in partnership with popular Japanese franchise Pokémon as well.

As you might have seen in the viral marketing images and our banner above, they’re debuting, not an Ultra Ball or its more typical red-and-white variation, but a special-edition Poké Ball that’s now wrapped in a luxurious Tiffany Blue®.

The collection also features nine jewellery designs of pendant and necklaces that highlight six of the most iconic Pokémon, from Pikachu to Mew, designed in Arsham’s signature “Future Relics” aesthetic, which reimagines everyday objects as archaeological discoveries.

“With my latest project with Tiffany, we’ve recontextualized Pokémon — a nod to my 2022 A Ripple in Time project in Tokyo — to orchestrate a new narrative,” said Daniel Arsham. “With Pokémon and Tiffany, itself, there’s a sense of cultural permanence about each.” This merging of two iconic brands is also a nod to Tiffany’s love for connecting their timeless jewellery with contemporary art and pop culture.

As for the pieces themselves, the Tiffany & Arsham Studio & Pokémon capsule collection sees a distinct oxidized sterling silver treatment across pendants with diamond accents — namely, of Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, Cubone and Mew — while they’ve also presented a necklace featuring all six Pokémon. The iconic Pikachu though, always the star, has its yellow colour played up by a small and large pendant necklace, done in precious 18K yellow gold with diamond accents.

The oxidised sterling silver designs are housed in Tiffany & Arsham Studio & Pokémon Blue Boxes, while the gold Pikachu pendants arrive in those exquisite Tiffany Blue® Poké Balls.

The Tiffany & Arsham Studio & Pokémon capsule collection will be available at the Tiffany & Co. Landmark in New York City, Omotesando store in Tokyo and Tiffany.com in North America and Japan this December.

Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience Is Coming To Singapore February 2024

Potterheads, it’s your lucky day, as this is the kind of news we’d expect to hear after taking a swig of Felix Felicis — the ‘Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience’ will be making its Asia-Pacific debut in Singapore early next year, where we’ll get to discover magical creatures and interactive experiences along a breathtaking outdoor light trail.

The unique experience is set to run from 3 February 2024, and will take over the Coastal Trail on Sentosa Island.

Whether you’re in Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or well, a regular muggle, you’ll get to immerse yourself in the mysterious Forbidden Forest, encountering some of the most recognisable mystical creatures from the Wizarding World such as Hippogriffs, Unicorns, and Nifflers, perhaps a stray spider or two.

Part of the magical experience sees us wielding wands and casting spells too (Expecto Patronum, anyone?), in the shroud of trees lit up by mesmerising lights. Gear up for a wand duel, or, who knows, you might just be able to spot the form of your Patronus Charm before it vanishes into the night! Along the way, expect to see your favourite scenes come to life, including Arthur Weasley’s flying car, which make for perfect photo opportunities as you journey along the lush woodland trail.

You’ll also get to try the famous Butterbeer from the books and movies, and pick up exclusive merchandise from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies at the gift shop.

Presented by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment in partnership with Fever and IMG, the experience has had a successful run in the US and the UK, and will similarly delight audiences here; it’s also designed for fans of all ages.

Tickets will be available for purchase from 16 November, starting at $51 for adults and $39 for children. Avid fans may put their names down on a waitlist, in order to unlock exclusive early access to secure tickets.

The OPPO STUDIO POP-UP Celebrates Mobile Photography With An Exhibition, Exciting Experiences With The Find N3, & More

Mobile photography has got a pretty awesome reputation these days — entire short films and campaign images are captured on the tiny but powerful devices we can then stow away in our pockets, and this time, an entire exhibition has been set up to honour how far this technology has come.

To celebrate OPPO‘s latest revolutionary Find N3 series, the Chinese smart device brand has launched OPPO STUDIO POP-UP, a month-long event set at the heart of Orchard Road, where we get to witness the Find N3’s amazing tech and photography prowess, while participating in some exclusive photography experiences and earning prizes along the way. Through exhibitions, activities and more, it aims to inspire us to capture everyday moments and get creative with our mobile devices and go “Beyond the Image, Beyond Imagination”.

Here are the most exciting things you can look forward to at the pop-up, happening now till 6 December.

A “Golden Times” Photography Exhibition

What better way to inspire mobile photography than an impressive gallery wall of images, all shot exclusively on the OPPO Find N3?

This “Golden Times” exhibition, in particular, teams up with 9 local photographers, including our own Editor-in-Chief Adele Chan (@adele__chan); influencers Nicole Wong (@ncwong) and Salina Chai (@salinachai); as well as photography enthusiasts Aik Beng Chia (@aikbengchia), Alia (@redribbon26), Allen Tan (@bam_visuals), Bobby Tonelli (@btonelli), Mun (@munsterphotography), Qiya (@piqya), Teck Lim (@_teck) and YK (@yk) to co-create a series of photography works.

Whether it’s portraits of local personalities including Zoe Tay, backstage at a Teochew Opera, atmospheric shots of HDB blocks and Singapore’s architecture seen during golden hour, or intimate everyday moments, this showcase, captured in sharp detail, shows off why OPPO is one of the forerunners in mobile photography — after all, their latest foldable Find N3 comes equipped with a Hasselblad camera system, which is highly-regarded in the photography world.

A photography contest we’ve run recently also sees 10 readers, handpicked by us, where they got a chance to photograph with the Find N3 as well; some of their works are also exhibited here.

All photos showcased at the pop-up have been shot exclusively on the OPPO Find N3 specifically for this exhibition. You’ll also get to see campaign photos of actress Shu Qi, which are shot on the OPPO Find N3 Flip by the OPPO HQ in China.

Exclusive Smartphone Accessories, In Collaboration with Local Fashion Brand RECKLESS ERICKA

With sleek matte metallic finishes, and the Find N3 in black that sees a premium leather back, the smartphone is a good-looker that delivers on both powerful performance and attractive design — so, of course, it needs stunning accessories to pair up with. Here to further elevate the phone is an exclusive collaboration of limited-edition phone cases and accessories designed specifically for the Find N3 series, done in collaboration with local fashion brand RECKLESS ERICKA.

The custom pieces will be on display at the pop-up and available for purchase in limited quantities at the OPPO Online StoreOPPO Shopee Official Store and OPPO Lazada Official Store. You can also get a glimpse of phone cases designed by various Chinese designers at the OPPO STUDIO POP-UP.

Exciting Themes and Experiences Every Week!

As an event that’s dedicated to the world of mobile photography, the OPPO STUDIO POP-UP has a dedicated photoshoot section, where you may enjoy professional photography services against a variety of themed backdrops.

Here’s where you get to capture professional headshots for your resumes, or simply create fun, festive family portraits with the Find N3 series, all for free. Expert photographers will be there to help capture the perfect shot with the Find N3 Fold.

Here are the themes, which will be refreshed every week:

  • 7 November – 14 November – Our Golden Times
  • 15 November – 21 November – Holiday Mood
  • 22 November – 28 November – Take Your Profile Picture
  • 29 November to 6 December – Family Moments

Visit the OPPO STUDIO POP-UP and share your experience on Instagram to stand the chance to win daily prizes as well, such as $5 Grab vouchers or exclusive OPPO T-shirts. To participate, tag @opposingapore and use the hashtags #OPPOFindN3, #OPPO, and #ShotonOPPO. OPPO Singapore will select a winner from all the posts and provide a round-trip ticket for two to Bali from Singapore!

Review: Award-winning Chef Lee Boon Seng’s debut of Imbue is modern European cuisine with Asian influences

Back in 2015, Chef Lee Boon Seng won the prestigious Global Chef Challenge and was the youngest chef to be selected in the Singapore team at that time. He’s made a name for himself with his knowledge and prowess in classic European dishes, and with his new restaurant Imbue, he mixes in Asian influences, in particular, through the sauces he adds to his recipes.

Above: Chef Lee Boon Seng

Imbue opens today (1st November 2023) and is certainly worth a visit if you love discovering innovative textures with familiar flavours, and presented beautifully without appearing pretentious. We sampled the 8-course menu ($198++), and while not every course was to my liking, I’m pleased that I did try certain dishes that I’ve never had before. Read on for what to look out for.

Oyster mousse, jellyfish, fennel, citrus white soy

The oyster flavour comes out pretty strong in this first appetiser and that’s the thing that hits you. Then when you bite into it, there’s a smooth pâté texture that’s quite lovely, but then you’re surprised by chewy bits (which is the jellyfish). It was interesting and certainly deconstructed.

Drunken chicken, doubanjiang, Shaoxing wine

Ooooo, this was crunchy. The Shaoxing wine flavour comes through nicely and this actually does taste like Drunken Chicken. Again, interesting. I quite liked this one and would eat it again.

Century egg crab, kelp paste, Kaluga caviar

Oh wow. This was very tasty and I understand why this should be eaten last out of the three appetisers. There was something special in this dish that was flavourful — perhaps the kelp or the ginger. I couldn’t taste the century egg though; but I do believe that was what made this dish salty.

Smoked yellowtail, plum ginger, lapsang souchong, mountain yam

I love yellowtail and even more when it’s smoked. This dish looks fancy and its description is even fancier. I do like that the fish is made into “noodles”, but as wonderful as this dish sounds, I wasn’t a fan of it. It tastes like a spa, with the strong hints of lemon balm. It was also rather salty with lots of pickled ingredients inside. You may like this, but I didn’t.

Abalone, ginkgo nut custard, preserved chilli, pine nut

I’ve never eaten anything like this before. The texture is like a buttery chawanmushi and has the right balance of crunch and flavours. It’s rich, balanced and overall delicious. Highly recommended, and the best dish of the night.

Horse mackerel, aged tangerine, raw vegetables, onion potato pancake

Don’t expect Peking Duck because this protein is fish. But you wrap this in a similar fashion and bite into it like a taco. If the pancake was crispier, this experience and mix of textures would be complete.

“MALAI” bread, malt, ginseng honey butter, thyme

When this is served, the smell of warm brown sugar hits you and these simple flavours are delightful. The honey butter is really yummy as well; you can really taste the sweetness of the honey but not so much the ginseng — which is a good balance. The bread was fluffy too. I generally love bread and this was good bread.

21 days aged fermented bean wagyu rump cap, daikon soubise, macadamia morel

The wagyu was rich as expected, but not fatty. When you eat the entire dish together, the daikon cuts through the richness of the meat and balances it quite well. The sauce was unnecessary as the rest of the ingredients are good enough to stand on their own.

Squid sausage claypot rice, squid ink egg sauce, truffle, herb

I’m honestly quite full at this point (not a bad thing) but still managed to enjoy this dish. This is an elevated claypot dish which is reminiscent of the charred sides of traditional claypots you’ll get at the hawker centre. The crispy bits added on top of the rice are very nice and give it that crackling texture. I couldn’t finish this bowl of rice but I can see those with bigger appetites loving this at the end.

Strawberry sorbet, peach gum, rice wine lees espuma

This is a palate cleanser. The rice wine is really quite strong so dip or pour it sparingly.

Yuba pavlova, sesame oil, Meyer lemon curd, black lemon

Chef has a thing with flowers and everything’s very pretty. This pavlova was very airy and like eating a super light meringue. If you’re full, this is the perfect ending to your meal because it’s so light. The lemon curd is lovely. The perfect ending for the meal.

Mignardise

These small dessert bites were too much for me so unfortunately I didn’t try them. They looked very pretty though and their flavours sounded interesting (eg. a soya sauce nougat).

Ask about Imbue’s wine pairing for whichever course you choose (from $68++). Their wine list is extensive and the staff gave pretty good recommendations for the meal.

If you love cocktails, try Grains (Grey Goose vodka, kefir, apple, vanilla) and Opera (Black Tears spiced rum, Mr. Black Coffee, Couverture, Five Farms Irish cream) — both came highly recommended by the team at Imbue and did not disappoint. You can check out Imbue’s full cocktail menu here.

Imbue is located at 32 Keong Saik Road. Reservations can be made on the restaurant’s website at imbue.sg.
Prices start from $58++ for a 2-course lunch.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 in all its fashionable glory, featuring Layla Ong at the new hip NOA Lounge at Neil Road

We don’t say this about most tech, but the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is undoubtedly one of the most fashionable smartphone models we’ve come across. Sleek, and sleeker in fact thanks to an upgraded zero hinge gap design, with a bold and expanded 3.4″ Flex Window to make a stunning visual statement to boot, this is a foldable phone that’s just as fun to carry around, whether in the palm of our hand, or clipped onto the top of our bags or pockets.

An It-girl among a sea of blacks and neutrals, she dares to be dressed up in 8 gorgeous colours too, whether that’s a calming Blue, sunny Yellow, quirky Lavender, or industrial Gray; a colour to suit your personality, mood or vibe.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 in Blue | Hermès Plein Air Complexion Balm in 30 Ficelle, $154 ; Ombres d’Hermès in 04 Ombres Marines, $183 ; Hermestible Infused Care Oil in 05 Rose Kola, $93 | Self-Portrait Belted Denim Blazer, $553 ; Self-Portrait Mid-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans, $379 ; available at NET-A-PORTER.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 in Lavender | Hermès Plein Air Complexion Balm in 30 Ficelle, $154 ; Hermès Plein Air Radiant Matte Powder in 01 Nuage, $147 ; Hermès Plein Air Radiant Glow Powder in 02 Mirage, $147 ; Rose Hermès Silky Blush Powder in 54 Rose Nuit, $126 | Acne Studios Double-Breasted Herringbone-Jacquard Blazer, $1,327 ; Acne Studios Pleated Herringbone Jacquard Wide-Leg Pants, $758 ; available at NET-A-PORTER.

There is, of course, loads of functionality packed into this tiny number. Having a sized-up Flex Window means we’re able to access useful widgets and apps without having to flip open the phone, certainly useful, while we’re free to customise our Cover Screen by choosing a matching backdrop to go with our current aesthetic. While organising a “Back To The Flip” fashion show with Samsung back in July, we also loved how the FlexCam and Flex Window made it a breeze to snap high-definition selfies using the 12MP rear camera.

To best embody that quality of the fashion girlie, what better way to show off the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 than a fashion spread with Singaporean model, Asia’s Next Top Model alum, and NYLON Singapore cover girl, Layla Ong. Here’s we’ve paired up the smartphone with a slew of rockin’ fits, including a smart yet casual all-denim suit for the Blue-on-blue-on-blue tones (eyeshadow included), or pops of blue and red that bring out the cheery nature of the phone in Yellow. It’s also featured in Green, Lavender, Cream, and Graphite.
