The 2023 MUJI WALKER Series Is All About Functional Everyday Wear With Quick-Drying and UV-Protective Properties

MUJI’s about to make walking, well, a walk in the park with the MUJI WALKER series. The series is already a staple if you’re a fan of MUJI apparel, and perfectly designed for light exercises and outdoor walks as t-shirts, pants, leggings and other functional clothes incorporate important activewear elements, while still being versatile for everyday wear.

If you’re living in Singapore, you know how hot and unbearable our weather can get. All clothes in the MUJI WALKER series, thankfully, come with sweat-absorbing and quick-drying properties woven right into the fabric. What’s more, the items are also water-repellent and equipped with UV protection — with an impressive Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of 50 — which should make them essentials on your next walk, jog, or hike.

As seen in the above video, the MUJI WALKER Series is great for all kinds of occasions, whether it’s everyday wear due to its easy cuts and comfortable feel; rainy or humid weather because of its water-repellent properties; and the sunny outdoors or while we’re active as the apparel features UV-protective, quick-drying and sweat-absorbent benefits. The designs are also kept minimalist, so we can pair them with various outfit while knowing that they’re sure to outlast fleeting seasonal trends.

New to the MUJI WALKER Series — the Quick Dry T-Shirt and UV Quick Stretch Shorts

This year, MUJI has expanded the series with new functional T-Shirts and Shorts, each with specific properties that make them suitable for outdoors and exercise.

New — Men’s UV Quick Dry T-shirt, $29.90 ; Ladies’ UV Quick Dry Boat Neck T-shirt, $29.90 ; Men’s & Ladies UV Quick Stretch Shorts, $29.90.

The Quick Dry T-Shirt ($29.90), when worn, has a cooling effect on the skin, thanks to technology that instantly releases heat from the body, and its highly-breathable material achieved by a special mesh-like structure. It also features UV-protective qualities that blocks out direct UV rays from the sun, shielding our skin from sunburn. This particular style is available in Men’s and Ladies’ style, with a classic crew silhouette for the men, and a boat neck collar for the women’s style.

For a set of complementary bottoms, reach out for the UV Quick Stretch Shorts ($29.90), which boast a high UPF50+ UV protection, and excellent quick-drying properties to help diffuse sweat and keep us dry and comfortable. Also available in Men’s and Ladies’ cuts, the shorts hold their shape while still being flexible enough for all-day wear.

Other MUJI WALKER Series Essentials

UV Cut Half Top Bra ($29.90) and UV Cut Leggings ($29.90).

Head over to your nearest MUJI store to discover other staples within the collection. One of our favourite pieces has to be the UV Cut Half Top Bra ($29.90) and UV Cut Leggings ($29.90), available separately or in a matching set, that provides UV protection in a material that allows for moderate stretch and light exercises; the four colours, of neutrals as well as a muted pink and blue, also make for great post-gym OOTDs!

Men’s Water Repellent Shorts ($29.90).

The Men’s Water Repellent Shorts ($29.90) remains a hot favourite for the guys too, as they’re made of a windproof fabric that repels water, hence ideal for all kinds of sports or temperamental weather conditions. These are available in black, navy and khaki, sure, but also a bright blue and a rusty orange shade.

As for the other activewear essentials, there are Quick Dry tank tops and sleeveless t-shirts, along with short pants and leggings, which are all able to quickly and effectively absorb and diffuse sweat. Here’s your excuse to head out of the house and stay active!

See All The Looks In The UNIQLO : C Collection Designed By Clare Waight Keller

Best known for some pretty amazing stints at Givenchy and Chloé, and perhaps for having designed Meghan Markle’s royal wedding dress as well, British fashion designer Clare Waight Keller is set to bring her sense of fresh sophistication to UNIQLO, starting with a new womenswear line called UNIQLO : C.

You might have already seen this announced to much fanfare on your social media feeds, so here’s why we’re screaming, crying, throwing up — in the best way possible. This first collection with UNIQLO is a Fall/Winter 2023 series created by the acclaimed designer, and sees Keller’s effortless city elegance applied across LifeWear essentials. We’re talking about core pieces, not necessarily capsule ones, that will be your go-to styling essentials in the months to come, since these do go beyond neutrals to celebrate a thoughtful colour palette and textures.

The line joins UNIQLO’s other designer collaborations, such as ones with Jil Sander, JW Anderson, and one we look forward to every season, Uniqlo U by Lemaire. And since this is, after all, a UNIQLO collection, we also get to enjoy everyday comfort and functionality in Keller’s well-executed designs.

“I have always admired the Japanese aesthetic of subtlety, simplicity and detailed perfection, so to be able to work with the UNIQLO team to craft a new sensibility for my womenswear collection on such a global scale is a truly exciting opportunity,” said Keller.

This debut line consists of 34 pieces across outerwear, tops, skirts, dresses and more, of highlights that include lightweight PUFFTECH blousons and a classic trench coat made in a four-season gabardine twill.

We’re also eyeing those satin maxi skirts, heat-pressed to create the most perfect knife pleats, while still allowing lots of flow when in movement; casual corduroy trousers with flare legs; as well as dresses in delicate micro-floral and paisley prints that pair well with oversized sweaters to channel effortless boy-meets-girl chic.

Fans of UNIQLO’s super-popular round shoulder bag ought to know that it’s now remade in a chic, oversized version too — and yes, there are shoes as well!

The New Balance WRPD Runner features cutting-edge FuelCell technology and a distinctive futuristic design

New Balance’s WRPD Runner takes the traditional New Balance lifestyle silhouette, and distorts and warps the familiar shape into a whole new innovative design. It’s a lifestyle aesthetic that is combined with tech-utility, with a sculpted and exaggerated result that gives the shoe a modern look and feel.

Charlotte Lee, Senior Footwear Designer at New Balance says, “The WRPD Runner is a new concept driven by the unique space where style and performance meet. The upper has a refined focus on simplicity and quality, whilst the sole is a warped expression of our pinnacle running technology, FuelCell. The fluid lines of the foam are blended with the abstract nature of futuristic design, evoking a strong sense of movement.”

The upper is a nod to the iconic New Balance running design featuring an oval shape as a new and modern interpretation of the brand’s retro running models.

The midsole features soft sculpted FuelCell technology with a medial stability post and forefoot cushioning, as well as an exaggerated crash pad design in the heel.

Finally, there’s a warped outsole design with a unique, wavy tread pattern.

New Balance WRPD Runner is priced at $259 and available in a “Sea Salt” colourway. Buy online at WWW.NEWBALANCE.COM.SG, or in-store at NB 1906 ION Orchard and Limited Edt beginning August 16, 2023. Additional colourways will be launched in the coming months.

Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde effectively cleans the air in large spaces, and is surprisingly quiet

When I first saw the Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde, I was taken aback by its size; at a height of 83cm, and a width of approximately 43cm, this machine takes up a fair amount of floor space. It’s not particularly light either; it weighs close to 12kg, but apart from lifting it out of its huge box, it rolls around on thoughtful built-in wheels so it’s easy to move around. So with a new gadget of this size, it’s not just the cost of it that one must consider, but also the space it will take up in the home.

Above: The Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde in a home setting.

I do like that even while it’s big, the new purifier manages to look sleek with a futuristic cone and matte finish (the Satin Dark Blue/Gold looks particularly premium as well. There’s also a Bright Nickel/Prussian Blue version that you can check out on Dyson’s official website).

Above: The Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde in Satin Dark Blue/Gold, $1,399.

This is a plug-and-play device straight out of the box; all the filters are pre-installed, and once the machine is powered on, the purification (and air analysis) begins immediately.

As its product name implies, it detects formaldehyde (a gas emitted by many household appliances and furniture that can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, nose, and throat) in the air, and destroys it permanently. The purifier also captures allergens and 99.95% of ultra fine particles — all this data is reported and displayed on the machine’s LCD screen and in the MyDyson app if you sync it from your smartphone (you should). While the air gets sucked into the machine and purified, clean air is projected back into the room, and can reach over 10 metres, which is a really large area — hence this purifier works well for bigger rooms.

Above: there are three phases of purification, including a — HEPA H13 grade long-life filter (this is 3.8 times larger than its predecessor)
— a new k carbon filter (to capture gases)
— and a selective catalytic oxidisation filter (this traps formaldehyde and destroys it).

Ultimately, you’ll get a room with less dust, allergens, and unwanted gases, and one that’s also better smelling. It’s a good investment to have on standby when the haze returns, or if you have family members that suffer from dust, pollen or pet allergies.

The Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde is priced from $1,299 and available at DYSON.COM.SG.

CHANEL Looks To Byzantine Art For Their Jewel-Inspired LES 4 OMBRES BYZANCE Palettes

There’s a time for minimalism, and there’s a time for dazzling, extravagant maximalism, one that CHANEL Beauty is embracing with their LES 4 OMBRES BYZANCE collection. Ever the muse, it was Gabrielle Chanel’s trips to Venice that inspired her passion for Byzantine art, where its rich and opulent Baroque spirit was then carried over to the maison’s haute couture and jewellery designs, and now, their iconic eyeshadow palettes.

The LES 4 OMBRES palette has been reinvented to embody the bold Baroque spirit, via a hammered gold effect on the interior of the cases, which each house four gleaming shades that sparkle like precious stones.

As is typical of CHANEL’s approach towards beauty, these also bear what they’re calling a “barock attitude”, equally mesmerising as they are unexpected, in tones of ruby red, emerald green, yellow sapphire, red quartz, soft opal, and moonstone’s sea-green shimmer.

You’re able to go from the rich gold and red tones of Parure Impériale, to the soft romantic glow of Parure Cristal, with its soft opal and quartz topped off with pearlescent sky blue.

See the eyeshadow quads and their corresponding looks here —

  • PARURE IMPÉRIALE — A quartet of colours that includes shades of yellow sapphire, red quartz, and garnet, as well as a rose gold top coat.
  • PARURE VÉNITIENNE — A colour harmony featuring shades of carnelian, beige gold, and brown amber, complemented by a shimmering green moonstone top coat.
  • PARURE CRISTAL — Shades of pink opal, rose quartz, and smoky taupe quartz are complemented by an aqua quartz top coat—a pearlescent sky blue.
  • PARURE BAROQUE — An ensemble that features shades of ruby red, antique gold, and emerald, as well as a pearl white top coat.

The SHARP AQUOS XLED 4K TV Is Their Latest And Most Advanced “True To Life” Flagship Model

Whether you’re in the market for a new television set or not, you’ll know that it gets mighty competitive when we’re talking about this beloved household product, especially with brands coming up with the newest, the brightest, the smartest and the best TVs of all time. All of the above, of course, applies to SHARP’s latest model, the AQUOS XLED 4K TV, the leading Japanese brand’s flagship model that itself is setting a new standard for the company.

We know the flagship AQUOS XLED TV Series for consistently delivering on a “True To Life” viewing experience, thanks to innovations that give us the highest levels of brightness and colour contrast. This time, the SHARP AQUOS XLED 4K TV is their best-in-class model, the most advanced in the 4K TV segment they’ve got, both in artistic design and exceptional picture and audio quality.

Visual Technology

Its most standout feature would be the TV’s visuals, which combines the best features of LCD TV and OLED TV; this new model is brighter than one’s conventional LCD TV, while at the same time, providing greater contrast compared to most OLED TVs.

This is achieved via their ‘Xtreme mini-LED’ technology, with a goal of true brightness that effectively reproduces the brightness and colours of the world. For this, SHARP relies on an impressive high of over 2,000 backlight dimming zones for dynamic colour contrast, that is, 88 times more backlight LEDs that bring six times the peak brightness compared to conventional displays. There’s also colour technology involved, called the ‘Deep Chroma Quantum Dot’ technology, which displays the highest colour coverage in the history of the AQUOS TVs; reds, blues and greens are displayed in rich shades and tones for improved realism.

Sound, & Other Key Features

Another key part of an all-rounded entertainment system would be its sound quality, and we know that the SHARP AQUOS XLED 4K TV delivers on this as well. An immersive audio experience is enabled with their ARSS+ speaker system, which is equipped with 11 speakers surrounding the screen. These speakers specialise in high, mid, and low frequency ranges so we get a rich and crisp audio experience.

As is the case for most TVs today, we need to have ‘smart’ options that are well-integrated with the applications and streaming services we use. The SHARP AQUOS XLED 4K TV is seamlessly integrated with Google TV, allowing for hassle-free viewing, easy switching between multiple apps, and other Google-enabled services.

It also supports Dolby Vision IQ™ and Dolby Atmos® technologies, which further optimise the TV and one’s viewing experience, whether it’s adjusting the show’s picture HDR brightness according to the room’s ambient light levels, or ensuring that your favourite movies and television series feature sound that moves around with you so you’re right in the thick of the action.

It’s a Dream Job for these 5 Essential Workers at Mandai Singapore Zoo. We meet a Junior Veterinary Nurse, Zookeeper, Horticulture specialist and more.

How much do you love your job? Probably not as much as these five essential workers at Mandai Singapore Zoo. Leading up to National Day and in celebration of the Singapore Zoo’s 50th Golden Zoobilee, we speak to five individuals about their role in Mandai, and the importance of what they do.

Lim Yi Xuan, Junior Veterinary Nurse

Above: Lim Yi Xuan, Junior Veterinary Nurse

Yi Xuan is a Junior Vet Nurse who helps with treatments and any medical care that the animals in the zoo require. While she’s still pretty new at her current role (she transferred about two months ago but has been with Mandai for two-and-a-half-years), she still hopes for the day that the zoo’s clinic will not have a single patient, because ultimately, everyone wants the animals to be healthy. Her job sees her administering injections or oral medications, and getting things ready for Senior Vets to handle operations.

Above: baby Masked Palm Civet getting treatment. the Little guy cut his tail by accident.

When asked about her reasons for joining Mandai, she says, “It’s a dream of mine, actually. Since young, the zoo has always been one of my favourite places to visit. My dad used to being me often and he was the one that made me like animals; he exposed me a lot to wildlife — and then the interest grew from there. I realised that hey, you can actually become a vet nurse, so I started pursuing that sector. A lot of this [job] is actually quite new to me as well, so I’ve been learning a lot. After all, it’s a wide variety of animals.”

Above: Masked Palm Civet receiving medication and a new bandage on his injured tail.

Hikmat Siliwangi, Senior Keeper, Animal Care (Herbivores)

Above: Hikmat Siliwangi, Senior Keeper, Animal Care.

Hikmat is the zookeeper who is in charge of all the herbivores, and that includes the giraffes that he was feeding during this interview. While a zookeeper may sound like a pretty generic job title, he has the fulfilling role of taking care of all aspects of the animal’s welfare — their habitat, meals, emotional wellbeing and even guest interactions.

Above: Hikmat feeding carrot sticks to a giraffe who’s feeling snacky.

He says, “Some days, you know, the animals have their moods. So we as a zookeeper… we need to know how to handle it. We need to anticipate their moods every day. And it’s a good experience; every day is a learning journey for us. Animals are unpredictable; zookeepers need to assess them and react fast to their needs and to know what to do.”

“For me, the most challenging part is when the animals give birth. Even though the baby is out and seems fine, we need to see more than that. Whether the mother rejects the baby and what’s happening with the baby; so we really need to observe them closely.”

Rahman Bin Yusoff, Senior Executive, Horticulture

Above: Rahman Bin Yusoff, Senior Executive, Horticulture.

Uncle Rahman — as he’s known — is one of the zoo’s longest-serving staff. He’s worked at Mandai for more than 50 years, and this is his 30th media interview. While he’s served in almost every area of the zoo including being a keeper, Uncle Rahman has found his calling in horticulture; in particular, growing and harvesting bamboo for the pandas.

Above: Uncle Rahman cutting bamboo for the panda’s meals.

He knows which bamboos are popular, such as Flat Bamboo, Buddha Belly Bamboo, and Yellow or Green Bamboo, and he knows just how much and where to cut. It’s a laborious job but Uncle Rahman goes about it full of joy and expertise.

Above: Uncle Rahman showing us the cut bamboo.

Pedro Shiu, Manager, Education

Above: Pedro Shiu, education Manager on the content team.

Pedro’s job is to create educational content about the animals that are found in all of Mandai’s parks (Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Night Safari and Bird Paradise). Together with a team of five, he conceptualises, shoots and produces educational videos for the public to see on Mandai’s website and social media platforms.

He does get special requests from other departments as well, such as “when there’s a special event, like a special keeper talk, or they want to highlight some animal and they need publicity, then we work with them to film it down. We also document really important animals of high conservation value coming in or going out. So instead of just creating video for social media, we also have the job of kind of being documentarians of the life events happening in the organisation.”

Above: Pedro taking videos of pigeons for Mandai’s social media platforms.

Pedro certainly considers this his dream job, and a question he wrestles with himself is, “What next? Because I’m so happy and fulfilled working here, I am worried that I would get too comfortable.”

“I think the most difficult and the most challenging part of my job is also the most fun part of it, which is working with animals. Animals are not always the most cooperative. They’re not like humans, where you can give them the script. And I think as an organisation, we also don’t force our animals to do stuff. So that comes as a challenge because it takes a lot of patience and understanding. And while it’s infuriating at times, it’s also very exciting. Sometimes just forcing myself to be still and waiting for the right moment.

Recently, I filmed a video where I was also in the video where my colleague Mark and I were promoting guest etiquette in Bird Paradise. And then we were talking about what to do if a bird ever lands on your shoulder; and just at that moment, a bird landed on my shoulder. So it was almost on cue that I was able to lean down and show the proper way to react, but that was unexpected.”

Natalie Chan, Manager, Animal Behaviour & Programmes

Above: Natalie Chan, Manager, Animal Behaviour & Programmes.

Natalie is a Manager at the Singapore Zoo’s Animal Behaviour Programmes, and her job covers animal care, training, enrichment, presentations (two a day!) and interactions with the animals. Pretty much everything in Rainforest KidzWorld.

The dogs and cats in her team’s care are all rescues; for example, the retrievers and the Japanese Spitz were being smuggled into Singapore from the Causeway, so they were rescued and adopted as puppies. In fact, few people are aware that the Singapore Zoo has an initiative with the SPCA and AVS to train, rehabilitate and rehome animals, and this is part of Natalie’s job — one that she absolutely loves and cherishes.

Above: Natalie with rescue dogs.

Natalie says that many of the animals acquired can be trained — even cats. “A lot of people don’t realise that actually cats can be trained. So [in the show] the cats go from point to point, and when they are more comfortable or more agile, so to speak, we actually got them to walk on the planks, or to display their sensitive whiskers by going through hoops. I think the message that we’re trying to drive home is not so much what tricks they can do, but what suits the behaviour of the individual animals. So this cat can do all that but the other cat prefers interaction. So it’s more about suiting it to the animal so that ultimately they’re happy and comfortable to do what they’re doing. And I guess the take home message is, hey, look at what rescue animals can do. It’s giving them a second chance.”

2023’s Dior Forever Cushion Foundation — With New Couture Cases And In Either A Matte Or Glow Finish

Dior Beauty’s beloved long-wearing Dior Forever routine gets another upgrade, in the form of new cushion foundations — and trust us, these are as beautiful as ever, both on the inside and outside. The latest Dior Forever cushions arrive in two finishes, either a no-transfer matte or hydrating glow, along with new customisable couture cases that take after iconic designs from the fashion side of the esteemed house.

Dior Forever Cushion and Dior Forever Skin Glow Cushion

Expect an even fresh feel, one that lasts for 24 hours on the skin. The new Dior Forever cushions are able to effectively even out the complexion and instantly blur imperfections, resulting in smooth, high-perfection coverage, whether you’re using this as base makeup, or for touch-ups throughout the day.

The skincare-makeup hybrid formula is composed of more than 25% water for that touch of freshness, while floral extracts ensure hydration and that our skin is cared for.

Jiali Zhao

There are some differences depending on whether you’re opting for the matte or glow versions though. For the Dior Forever Cushion in matte, you’re looking at a velvety finish that’s then infused with wild pansy and rosehip extracts to keep skin comfortable and reduce the look of pores.

Those who prefer a glow finish can expect a dewy veil of light, along with the same wild pansy extract to preserve skin hydration. Dior has also introduced three new hues for the Dior Forever Skin Glow Cushion, in order to suit Asian skin tones.

Furthermore, new sponges with a slanted edge ensure more precise application since they’re able to hug one’s facial contours during application.

Dior Forever Cushion – Embroidered Cannage
Dior Forever Skin Glow Cushion – Vinyle Cannage

Another new thing? The Dior Forever cushion cases are now more customisable. You may now select the couture case of your choice, then clip in the foundation refill in your shade and chosen finish. The cases themselves have been redesigned, available in the following formats:

  • Embroidered Cannage, a subtly embroidered fabric evoking the iconic Lady D-Lite handbag for refined and feminine elegance.
  • Vinyle Cannage: an ultra-shiny vinyl, symbolising glow in reference to the legendary Lady Dior design.

Raffles City Singapore Gets More Exciting Than Ever With A New Future/Forward Campaign

We’ll say this — Raffles City‘s recent revamp has got to be one of the most refreshing mall upgrades in the past few years, the glow-up of glow-ups, if you will. It’s the location of choice for luxe beauty brands such as Givenchy Beauty and Diptyque, who’ve opened their first flagship boutiques in Singapore, as well as the site for Sephora’s first ‘Store of the Future’ concept in Asia.

Just as well, fresh, young fashion labels, such as & Other Stories and sports retailer Sun & Sand Sports, have set up generously-sized stores, while there’s even a new wing that houses home & lifestyle brands, including Sunday Bedding, Qoltured by FortyTwo, and Spanish brand KAVE Home. This diverse mix of tenants and new-to-market brands and concepts have certainly bolstered the mall’s fresh and exciting new look.

Raffles City’s Future/Forward Campaign

Close to one year later, Raffles City is embarking on a campaign that aims to further establish the mall as a luxury shopping destination.

Happening now till 31 August 2023, the ‘Future/Forward’ campaign makes way for design and lifestyle spaces around the mall, which debut innovative activations that not only showcase the latest Fall/Winter 2023 trends, but also use digital technology to subvert our expectations of a typical mall display.

From a fragrance bar to a shoppable window of digitally-rendered products, we take a look at some of these new installations and the exciting promotions that come along with them, as well as some of the key stores that make Raffles City a standout in Singapore’s retail scene.

1. Welcome To Future Of City: Shop The Look

This curious mirrored display is unmissable the moment you enter Raffles City, and certainly requires closer inspection. Step in and take a look, you’re witnessing a unique display of digitally-rendered products set against a futuristic landscape, featuring items from popular brands including & Other Stories, Acqua di Parma, Diptyque, BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE, Montblanc, Sun & Sand Sports, Tommy Hilfiger and more.

Their latest new-season goods have been 3D-scanned and uploaded here, and as visitors to the mall, we get to shop the products on the spot. Simply scan the QR code to learn more and redeem a special eVoucher to shop the products. Welcome to the future, indeed!

The first 500 shoppers with the code and a minimum spend of $500 in a single receipt at participating brands will receive $50 eCapitaVoucher.

Located at Artsquare, Level 1.

2. Pop Up Vanity Fair: Raffles City Fragrance Bar

For all you fragrance lovers, consider this the best way to get acquainted with new and unexpected scents. The Fragrance Bar pop-up is essentially a scent discovery bar where an expert will guide you to find your ideal scent, based on the vibe you’re feeling that day. You’ll be taken through a journey of signature fragrances from a wide range of beauty brands available at Raffles City, including Acqua di Parma, Givenchy, Guerlain, Gucci, and Jo Malone London.

This luxurious experience is available to shoppers who spend a minimum of $200 at Raffles City in a day, where they can then walk away with a miniature scent of their choice, a bottle of drink from Tipsy Flamingo, and a $10 eVoucher to spend at participating beauty brands. Note that redemptions are only  available from Fridays to Sundays, and limited to the first 1,000 redemptions.

Located at the Water Court at Level 1.

3. FASHION: The Runway

Trust us, this is no static installation. In neon plexiglass and with constantly-rotating displays, including what reminds us of a revolving closet, the clothes, bags, shoes, accessories and other fashion picks are visual treats, and definitely alluring to passers-by. The showcase is also making a statement with its choice of progressive styles, whether via genderless fashion or apparel with creative silhouettes, while on-trend brands such as ECCO, Calvin Klein, COS, Kate Spade New York and more are prominently displayed.

What’s more, the first 50 shoppers with a cumulative spend of $5,000 (exclusions apply) stand to receive a $500 eCapitaVoucher. On top of that, one lucky shopper stands to win 100% cashback in eCapitaVouchers for all purchases at Raffles City during the campaign period!

Located at the Fashion Walkway, Level 1.

Store Spotlight

Diptyque

The Diptyque boutique at Raffles City is surely an extension of their original store in Paris, with French-style mouldings, a green-lacquered facade and a custom-made Diptyque mosaic right at the entrance, though you can just as well say that it’s an extension of a home — a dream one. This Singapore boutique is fitted to look like an apartment, complete with lounge areas, a central fireplace, as well as shelves and drawers filled with scented candles, their signature fragrances, body care products, and more; local touches such as rattan panelling and colonial-style furniture from local Studio Kallang also make the cut, making this flagship boutique unique to its Asian locale.

Tommy Hilfiger

The recent opening of the TOMMY HILFIGER store earlier in June is a testament to their enduring all-American codes that blend heritage and preppy varsity styles. We love that this is a warm and inviting space, complete with a mix of new and old-world charms such as oak flooring paired with minimalist wall bays; things are also kept quirky with greenery, cosy furnishings of red and navy, and colourful art that introduce the premium lifestyle brand as both classic and contemporary. New-in at this Singapore store is also the Disney x Tommy collection, where we see Mickey and friends on preppy and archival TOMMY HILFIGER classics.

Givenchy Beauty

French luxury beauty house, Givenchy Beauty, opened their first-ever flagship boutique to much fanfare in November last year, and till today, the sleek store displays that hold their range of sophisticated fragrances, makeup, and skincare products look as fresh as ever. This is also where you’ll want to be to shop boutique-exclusive products, including the La Collection Particulière of premium couture fragrances, and Le Soin Noir, their premium skincare range. You may also enjoy complimentary skincare consultations and makeup touch-up services.

You May Soon Shop Korean Label CARYLN’s Trendy Puffy Bags at The Editor’s Market

The season of puffy bags ain’t over yet, especially when the Y2K resurgence has been having such a stronghold on our fashion consciousness — which then bodes well for this upcoming announcement. The Editor’s Market has partnered with hyper-viral Korean label CARLYN to bring to Singapore some of their most coveted bags, pouches and accessories. Yes, that includes the popular SOFT bags that we’ve all been eyeing over social media, carried by the likes of K-pop idols such as Bam Bam of GOT7 and Hyoyeon of SNSD.

Two of the brand’s most beloved styles are the SOFT and COZY, which feature their signature quilted fabric in various shapes and sizes. The SOFT, for instance, is available in Mini, Medium and Large, in versatile and trendy colours, whether you prefer a neutral palette, or pastel and sherbet shades.

The Mini and Medium sizes are great slung across the shoulder, and are surprisingly roomy too given their cloud-like puffiness, while the Large size gives off an edgy, too-cool-to-care vibe when worn as a crossbody. Those going for an even edgier aesthetic would appreciate the metallic quilted fabric of the POING series as well, available as bags, pouches, and even scrunchies.

The Swatch BIOCERAMIC WHAT IF? Collection Of Square Watches Brings Their 1982 Prototype To Life

We all know Swatch for their everyday Swiss-made watches, but the ever-playful brand is about to challenge the status quo again — their own — with a new collection that reimagines what a “classic” Swatch watch can look like. What if the first Swatch watch wasn’t round, but square? That’s a style, and story, that the BIOCERAMIC WHAT IF? Collection aims to tell.

Picture this: we’re going back in time to 1982, when the Swatch founders were still deciding on the ideal look of their debut timepiece. Round or square…? You’d think the possibilities would be endless, except, back then, they felt that they were lacking the technology and materials to create the fine lines, tight edges and strong straps necessary for a square watch. Not today though.

Four decades later, the brand is debuting their new BIOCERAMIC WHAT IF? Collection, which plays out an alternative reality — what if Swatch was started with the very square prototype that proved so attractive to the founders all these years ago?

The result is four beautiful square designs, each with a retro vibe and edge-to-edge glass dial that flaunts beloved vintage aesthetics, yet enabled with modern materials and technology.

In particular, the collection features Swatch’s breakthrough technology, their BIOCERAMIC material, which combines ceramic powder with bio-sourced materials for a watch with extremely strong and durable properties. This has allowed Swatch to overcome the previous challenges of creating a square watch, giving us these contemporary iterations.

The four timepieces in the collection sees beautiful square edges and a 33mm x 33mm case, each fitted with a BIOCERAMIC case, crown, and buckle. Two design details stand out as well.

First, we’ve got a bio-sourced edge-to-edge glass that spans across the watch face, providing a stunning side view of the dial; this modern fabrication is a first for Swatch. Another first would be each watch’s bio-sourced strap, designed to sit flush and comfortably on the wrist, a subtle feature that should please both avid watch collectors and casual fashion enthusiasts alike — and one that you should definitely try on in-store to feel the difference.

The design of each watch is also particularly striking. As mentioned, the retro vibes are certainly strong with this one, in more ways than one. The square dial is kept functional and minimalist, though with glow-in-the-dark hands and a keen detail of the day-date calendar window at the 3 o’clock mark. As for the cases, they are available in muted, matte gray, green, beige and black tones inspired by the very first Swatch models.

Each dial even differs based on your colour pick — the black watch sees clean lines replacing numerals, though the gray version takes on roman numerals that extend to the sides of the watch. The green style is suitably vintage-looking thanks to its play on symmetry and geometry, while the beige version has a contrasting dial of blue.

As a final playful twist to an already imaginative collection, flip to the back of the watch to find a battery cover imprinted with one of the four first 1983 Swatch watches ever created, a detail that pays tribute to the 40th anniversary and legacy of Swatch’s GENT watch.

The BIOCERAMIC WHAT IF? Collection has launched globally on Swiss National Day, 1 August 2023, as well, surely a tribute to the brand’s Swiss-made heritage.
