Too Faced is releasing a brand new peach palette

A couple months have passed since we’ve heard a peep from the Too Faced’s peach department. (In my head, the beauty brand has a dedicated number of people who focus on the fuzzy fruit 24/7.) Some major news was just teased, though: Another peach-themed palette may be on its way, namely the Too Faced White Peaches Eye Shadow Palette.

We ain’t playin’ with peach! #tfpeachesandcream #toofaced

A post shared by Too Faced Cosmetics (@toofaced) on

The collection which is entirely peach scented already includes one peach eyeshadow palette and that’s not even counting the brand’s original ‘Sweet Peach’ palette which spawned the Peaches and Cream collection. But it looks like Too Faced co-founder Jerrod Blandino just can’t get enough of that fuzzy fruit.

Makeup Instagram account Trend Mood have just leaked images of a brand new eyeshadow palette that Too Faced are adding to their peach family and we can already tell that ‘White Peach’ is going straight on our makeup wish list.

Too Faced hasn’t released any further details yet, but with 12 brand new neutral shades we are already predicting a sell out.

Guzzle Buddy Makes Drinking From a Wine Bottle Classy

Drinking straight from a wine bottle – we’ve all been there, done that. Well, maybe just us who belong to the more ratchet side of things. A bottle of wine is supposed to be classy, but when the liquid content is not actually distributed into other vessels, like a proper wine glass for instance, the posh factor goes way down.
That’s where Guzzle Buddy comes in. For those of you who love drinking straight from a wine bottle, or if you consider an entire bottle to be sufficient for one serving, this handy tool will make your wine drinking sessions classy, or classy-ish at least.

Best of all, it’s completely idiot proof. All you’ve got to do is screw it directly to the top of your open bottle, and voila, you can chug straight from the glass. That way, you don’t even have to share what you’re drinking with other people if you require a lot of alcohol. If anything, you don’t have to keep pouring out shit.

Want to spice up your wine drinking sessions? The Guzzle Buddy is retailing at $89 and is available via Lazada.sg – not exactly cheap, but a worthy price to pay if you think pouring is boring.

Sia Partners With M.A.C. To Release Her Very Own Lipstick As Part Of The #VivaGlam Campaign

How ironic is it that someone who never shows their face manages to front a makeup campaign?
But we aren’t just talking aboutΒ theΒ anonymous stranger on the street; weΒ are talking aboutΒ one of pop music’s most coveted singer-songwriter, Sia, who has teamed up with M.A.C. Cosmetics to come up with her own makeup collection as part of their #VivaGlam campaign. Okay, maybe calling the collaboration a collection might be a bit much since there’s only one product –Β a singleΒ Viva Glam Sia Warm, Vivid Red Matte lipstick. The pop singer has always been a staunch supporter for animal rights and is also a vegan, but it looks like she’s also trying to do her part in helping support AIDs.

56e0e680f3245dba63f053b0bfecfdea

The #VivaGlam campaign is part of M.A.C.’s initiative to support those affected by HIV/AIDS, and all the proceeds sold from the products released as part of the campaign will go to M.A.C.’s AIDs fund. You can now contribute back to society whilst getting some new additions to your makeup stash – everyone’s happy! Sia now joins a galaxy of other stars who have had their turn fronting the campaign, including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Mary J Blige, and Elton John. Oh, and these products are classic limited edition pieces, which means that you only get one chance to add them to your collection. Even if you probably won’t wear it (or at all), you might want to get one just for the packaging.

The M.A.C. x Sia in Viva Glam

The warm cranberry red lipstick comes in a matte finish, and its a shade that’s often spotted on Sia. Even though you can’t really see most of her features because of her wig, her mouth is the only part of her face left uncovered, which means that playing around with makeup mostly consists of changing lipstick colours. We aren’t complaining though – the red lippie is perfect for daily wear, and the classic black bullet is emblazoned with Sia’s name for an edgy feel worthy of the pop singer’sΒ eccentricΒ vibes.
The Viva Glam Sia Warm, Vivid Red Matte, $36, will be availableΒ at maccosmetics.com and in stores on 25 January 2018.Β

Matchstick Nails Have Arrived And They Are Pretty Lit

There’s been absolutely no shortage of unique, and even at times, brilliant, nail art to hit our Instagram feeds in 2017. And as we prepare to close the book on the great nail art trends of 2017, another Instagram user has stepped forward with an idea that is literally on fire.

Recently,Β anΒ Instagram userΒ turned a set of nails into a literal lighter with one nail featuring a matchstick and the other housing a lighting strip. In the Instagram video, Tony Ly of Tony Nails shows followers an actual flame that forms in the process. Given that, it’s understandable when we say you should absolutely not play around with this idea, or even attempt it, even its for the ‘gram.

Fun nails design #allpowder #tonyly

A post shared by Tony’s Nails (@tonysnail) on

Not only did Tony’s nail catch fire, but he also blinged out his creation, adorning the matchstick nail in jewels and a fluorescent green polish. It appears that the way the nail works is by affixing a longer matchstick to one nail, and then lighting that stick on another nail that’s covered in striking surface material. So, not only are Tony’s nails beautiful, but they’re also scientific. Tony makes burning out the flame rather easy, demonstrating that he simply flicks off the match head.

The nail artist offers no tutorial on how exactly to make the match nail, so it might be best to leave this one to the experts, but Instagram users are definitely intrigued. Others aren’t totally convinced they wouldn’t get burned in the process, with one user pointing out “that’s not good, this fire burns.” As for those of us still mastering the art of just getting the perfect brush stroke, we probably would want to skip this one.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Users Complain of Faulty Batteries

Samsung officials must be sick and tired of hearing the words β€œfaulty batteries”. According to Android Authority, the tech giant is responding to complaints by users that the Galaxy Note 8 is refusing to charge after the batteries go flat (nowhere near as dangerous as the explosive Note 7 debacle, but a cause for concern nonetheless).
The faulty batteries came into the spotlight after a number of users on Samsung’s Community Forums brought up the issue, saying that their phones won’t switch on after hitting 0%, effectively making the device one hell of an expensive paperweight. There’s even a video to prove it, which you can check out below:

But thankfully, it’s not as if Samsung is sitting by and doing nothing. A moderator by the handle of β€˜SamsungMel’ is advising affected customers to return faulty phones for warranty replacements; stating that β€œthis particular problem with the Note 8 not turning on is definitely something that we want to get addressed immediately.”
So it’s clear that Samsung is taking this matter seriously. What isn’t clear is how widespread the problem is, and if entire batches of Galaxy Note 8 devices have been compromised. It’s quite a shame for this to happen, really, considering that the Galaxy Note 8 is an excellent phone, and went some way to nursing Samsung’s reputation.
Still, it seems that this issue has mainly affected users in the United States, but if your Note 8 has stopped charging, you know what to do.

NYLON Team Picks: Top 5 Beauty Products of 2017

Here at NYLON, our jobs as beauty editors and writers mean we’re engulfed by avalanches of beauty products on a regular basis, and this year was no different. Of course, we know how fortunate we are to get our hands on the latest and shiniest even before they hit the stores, and 2017 has certainly left us with a heap of new holy grail items. That said, we’ve each got a handful of products we felt were a cut above the rest. Read on for our edit on the best beauty products of the year.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Adele Chan, Editor-in-Chief
I can’t tell you exactly how many beauty products were launched this year (in fact, every year!) β€” it’s clearly too many to count; so the ones that stand out are really performers! Without further ado, here are my top 5 beauty products that were launched in 2017, all of which are exceptional and I’d say, are must-buys!
IMG_2970
BENEFIT BOI-ING HYDRATING CONCEALER
$35, available in 3 shades (Light, Medium and Deep), at Sephora.
What is it: A concealer with a ring of balm around the centre, that moisturises skin.
What’s so good about it: When I first saw this product, I didn’t think much of it. In fact, to be brutally honest, I thought it would be awful; but I was wrong. This is such an excellent concealer that it has joined my beauty box since the day I tried it. It now sits alongside my holy grail concealer from ClΓ© de Peau BeautΓ© (a product I’ve been swearing by for close to 10 years, that I never imagined would get replaced in my makeup box). The concealer goes on really smooth with a satin-like finish, and offers medium to high coverage (although the brand says it’s sheer coverage), and conceals dark spots (lightens them!), blemishes (they all but disappear), redness and dark circles β€” which I must point out, this concealer is very effective in concealing dark circles, making them look like they’re barely there! Believe it or not, the finish on skin looks air-brushed.

CHANEL BLUE SERUM
$160, available at CHANEL beauty counters and boutiques.
What is it: A serum that improves the skin’s health. The formula includes ingredients found in some of the β€œblue zones” around the world, including green coffee from Costa Rica, olives from Sardinia, and lentisk from Greece. Blue zones are areas where people living there tend to live longer, and probably because of some magic in their natural surroundings.
What’s so good about it: My skin really did look and feel healthier when I used this product. I didn’t have any breakouts, and my skin texture looked glowy! And all this really happened when I started using this serum. Alas… it is rather pricey for a small 30ml bottle.

CHANEL SIGNATURE DE CHANEL INTENSE LONGWEAR EYELINER PEN
$51, available at CHANEL beauty counters and boutiques.
What is it: A liquid pen eyeliner with a brush tip. It comes in two parts: a pen holder, and an ink cartridge that is snapped into the holder.
What’s so good about it: Since the first time I tried this eyeliner, it has become the benchmark that I rate and compare all other eyeliners against. Let’s put aside that this product is from Chanel, and is the classiest looking eyeliner in the world; the pen itself performs incredibly. The brush is firm but flexible, the ink is dark and intense, and at least for me, it doesn’t smudge. I get a perfect, consistent line every time β€” except when the ink runs out. Alas, then it’s time to buy a new one. My full review gushing about this product can be read here.

KOSÉ INFINITY TIGHT LIFT BASE
$55, available at KosΓ© beauty counters.
What is it: An anti-ageing makeup base that has a technology called β€œTight Lift Polymer”, which is said to harden with body heat, and keep the shape of the face firm throughout the day. It also includes SPF30 / PA++.
What’s so good about it: Not all primers are created equal. Some do nothing to keep makeup in place, others pill on the face when you pile on foundation (horrors!). This was a surprise find from KosΓ©; it creates a near-perfect base even before I put on any actual base makeup. My skin texture looks super smooth, even, and pore-free; and it makes my foundation look better than any primer ever has. This product is a quiet hero that deserves more attention.

THREE FLAWLESS ETHEREAL FLUID FOUNDATION
$75, available in 10 shades at the Three boutique at TANGS at Tang Plaza L4.
What is it: A liquid foundation with 80% naturally-derived ingredients. It claims to be free from parabens, synthetic perfumes, animal-derived ingredients, and mineral oils.
What’s so good about it: I reviewed a whole range of products from Three in September, see here, and the one product that really stood out was this liquid foundation. It goes on like a tinted emulsion (as described by the website) β€” cool and watery β€” but performs like a buildable liquid foundation. I can go sheer, or layer on for higher coverage. It’s this flexibility, and the beautiful soft texture finish that has me including this product in my 2017 must-buy list.

Amelia Tan, Associate Editor
Whether it’s skincare or makeup, I’m always excited to try something new — and secretly hope that some of each year’s new innovations ends up on my can’t-do-without beauty regime. The problem is, with so many products coming in weekly, it’s hard to stick to something unless they prove amazing on the first take, and then the next, and the next. Well, you’ll be glad to know that these ones are tried, tested, and pretty much deliver the ‘amazing’ every single time.
IMG_2974
SHISEIDO WASO SOFT+CUSHY POLISHER
$55, available at Shiseido counters.
What is it: A gentle exfoliator that removes skin impurities, clears pores and leaves your skin smooth after. It contains biodegradable, plant-based cellulose granules instead of artificial ones, is formulated with soy extract to help lift off dead skin cells and deeply cleanse the pores, while there’s also Sebum Absorbing Powder to deal with oily skin.
What’s so good about it: For those who’re used to harsh exfoliators that might feel like your skin’s really clean after (though a bit stripped of moisture), I’d say, you’ll find a new hero in this, fresh off Shiseido’s latest WASO line. Firstly, I’ve always felt a little guilty about the microbeads of physical exfoliators, as effective as they feel, simply because they seem kinda abrasive, don’t you think? Well, I’m glad I don’t feel any of that here. The surprising thing is how soft this feels on my skin; even as I’m massaging it in and feel the little granules, they’re still part of this nicely whipped texture that happens when the product comes into contact with moisture. After sweeping this across my face, my skin feels cleaner and more balanced, with lesser impurities, and no signs of irritation either — and yes, the ideal outcome of soft and smooth too.

FRESH UMBRIAN CLAY PURIFYING MASK
$95, available at Fresh stores and Sephora.
What is it: A purifying clay mask for normal to oily skin, that contains Umbrian Clay, which originates from Italy, and is Fresh’s proprietary ingredient with a high mineral content to help balance the complexion. This is combined with calming soothing ingredients as well, and the product can also be used as a daily deep cleanser and a spot treatment too.
What’s so good about it: I can’t live without clay masks in my regime — or else, what do I do when my skin feels slicker than average, or if I have a potential zit popping up soon? Like everyone, I panic, but you know what, maybe a little less because I’ve got this sweet companion to help me along. When I do feel my skin’s out of balance, I reach for this and slather it all over my face; the murky green colour makes me look a bit like the Hulk once I’m done, but I definitely feel Incredible after. My skin feels smoother, more in sync, and soft too so it doesn’t feel like all the moisture in it is stripped. What’s really a game-changer is when I feel the tiny bumps of imperfection and immediately treat it with this — rather than develop into a full-fledged zit, just two days of use will have the area calm down significantly. As they say, prevention’s better than cure!

NARS AQUA GLOW CUSHION FOUNDATION (shade: Finland)
$68, available at the NARS store and counters.
What is it: NARS’ first-ever cushion foundation is a water-enriched one that feels cooling on the skin and comes with a lightweight texture and a radiant finish. The coverage is medium, but buildable, while it also contains an Anti-Pollution Complex and SPF23/PA++ to protect the skin. There are 6 Asian-specific shades that cover both pink and yellow undertones.
What’s so good about it: I’ll trust NARS with anything, especially when it comes to bold makeup with perfect-looking skin — all the better when their foundation comes in my all-time favourite form, a cushion! I mean, convenience much? I just have to bring this tiny case (with a mirror) around, and use the sponge to lightly pat on and blend the foundation. Ah yes, this formula does feel really lightweight, doesn’t cake up the way some do over time, and instantly makes my skin look glowy — not oily — and fresh; I can go sheer or layer it up easily too, plus I’ll claim that it has the secret power to be a real confidence-booster. I never have to worry about my complexion with this on.

FENTY BEAUTY KILLAWATT FREESTYLE HIGHTLIGHTER (shade: Girl Next Door / Chic Phreak)
$50, available at Sephora.
What is it: A shimmery cream-to-powder highlighter duo that creates a soft, subtle glow with one side and a “supercharged” one with the other, designed for all skin tones.
What’s so good about it: By now you should be happily acquainted with all the hype that surrounds Rihanna’s breakout makeup line, Fenty Beauty, and boy has it earned its reputation alright. While the foundation is raved about and very quickly sells out too, I find myself drawn to the shiny, shimmery highlighters instead. This one was love at first swatch, mostly because of that rose gold. ‘Girl Next Door’ has a peachy sheen for subtlety, though I prefer the drama of ‘Chic Phreak’, a more shimmery shade that catches the light beautifully as I move, though with superfine shimmer so it doesn’t look that obvious either. On my fair skin, they double up as a hint of blush too if I’m too lazy for one. All it takes is a quick swipe for the highly pigmented shine to come through. The cream-powder hybrid is genius too — it melts into my skin without being tacky, is really easy to blend and stays on. I’m always suddenly tempted to take a hundred selfies to chronicle how good this looks. Oh please, you would too!

MAKE UP FOR EVER ARTIST LIQUID MATTE LIQUID LIP COLOR (shade: 401 Red)
$35, available at Sephora.
What is it: An ultra-matte liquid lipstick that promises good colour payoff and 20-hour comfortable long-wear.
What’s so good about it: So yeah, lipsticks are kinda my weakness — I already have so many of them, especially reds and nudes, but I can’t help but try more anyway because this craze is insatiable. Obviously. I’m always excited about the new ones that land on my desk too, but to be honest, this one didn’t stand out that much — at first. Liquid lipstick… Red… Pretty standard, no? Except it isn’t. I brought this out with me during a Singapore Fashion Week show and was pleasantly surprised by how it went on my lips; it glides on ultra-smooth and super pigmented — the applicator in particular feels steady — so all that you’ll see is a nice, flawless shade of red across my lips. It feels comfortable too, and doesn’t dry and settle into these awkward fine lines you’ll sometimes see on less satisfactory liquid lipsticks. I’m not entirely sure about the 20-hour claim because it does wear off a little after I eat, but the intense smack of colour alone, and in this statement-making red, is enough reason to make this one of my best surprise finds of the year.

Michelle Ng, Writer
I’m the newest beauty writer on the block here, and I’m trying real hard to navigate the endless black hole of beauty launches so please bear with me. I don’t really change beauty products a lot because I tend to go back to the few same favourites, but ever since I started at NYLON, I’ve started trying out more products and wow, have I made loads of new discoveries. It was hard, but I managed to narrow down my top 5 new beauty items that I discovered this year.
IMG_2972
RIMMEL SCANDALEYES BOLD WATERPROOF LIQUID EYELINER
$17.90, available at Watsons, Guardian and all other authorised retailers.
What is it: A waterproof liquid eyeliner that comes with a ball tip applicator.
What’s so good about it: The colour is as black as they come, which is perfect when it comes to drawing a bold cat eye. Unlike a hyper thin eyeliner with a super sharp tip, the ball tip gives you a thicker line the more pressure you apply. I only need one swipe, and the ball tip helps me to get both a thick line and a perfect cat eye all in one smooth movement. It takes a little mastering, but the ball tip is really useful as opposed to my initial doubts about it. Oh, and the β€˜waterproof’ part certainly exceeded my expectations. As a keen photographer, gel and pencil eyeliners are a definite no because they’ll smudge, so I’m always on the lookout for really waterproof and sweat-proof liquid eyeliners that are also wallet friendly (struggling fresh graduate here). This eyeliner also managed to withstand all the sweat and rain at Laneway and Ultra in Singapore’s humidity, and I also wore it as I went down a water slide 10 times before heading to a foam party at It’s The Ship, and my eyeliner held up the entire time. Waterproof? Check. Sweat-proof? Check. Festival-proof? Check.

FRESH LOTUS YOUTH PRESERVE EYE CREAM
$74, available at Fresh stores and Sephora.
What is it: A pot of eye cream made from lotus and a blend of 7 other magical ingredients including hibiscus fruit extract, Vitamin C & E and star fruit extract that hydrates and boosts the radiance of your under eye area.
What’s so good about it: As I’ve started working full-time this year, I found that my under eye area was becoming really dry as I started to use makeup more often, especially around the eye area to cover up my dark eye circles. I received a little sample of this eye cream as I was getting some stuff at fresh and decided there was no harm in trying it out. While it didn’t do much to reduce my dark eye circles, it did keep my under eye area hydrated and helped to brighten the eye area whilst reducing it’s puffiness. It dries pretty quickly after application too, which makes it ideal as I hate products that take way too long to dry.

CELEBEAU ON STAGE LIQUID EYE SHADOW SHIMMER TINT IN 02 SATIN BRONZE
$29, available in 4 shades (#01 Aqua Pink, #02 Satin Bronze, #04 All That Coral, #06 Aurora Silver) at Sasa stores.
What is it: A liquid eye shimmer that comes in a bottle, complete with an applicator for easy application
What’s so good about it: It’s like eyeshadow, but in liquid form. Why didn’t I think of this earlier? The Satin Bronze shade is super pigmented and super shimmery when it dries, which makes it good to use by itself, or atop other eyeshadows. I liked how easy it was to apply – eyeshadow beginners will find that you can’t really go wrong with this. It also dries really quickly, sealing in the pearly pigments, which means that you don’t have to worry about fallout like all those other super pigmented glittery eyeshadows. Perfect for a night out in the club or crowded places!

MAMONDE CREAMY TINT COLOR BALM INTENSE IN #7 KISSING YOU
$16, available in 20 different shades at Mamonde outlets and counters in TANGS
What is it: A really moisturising lip product that is hybrid between a lipstick and a lip balm
What’s so good about it: It feels really light and moisturising when you first apply it! It also doesn’t dry out my lips after a whole day of wearing, which means I don’t really need to apply a lip balm before or after I take it off. The colour transfers a little bit after meals, but the colour doesn’t become patchy; instead it fades nicely into a rosy pink that works on its own even if I don’t apply a fresh coat. It might be its creamy texture, but the product lasts really long even though I use it pretty often, which makes it pretty wallet friendly. The entire range of colours is pretty extensive too, and I love the formula so much that I’ve got this in three different shades.

URBAN DECAY X JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT TENANT EYESHADOW PALETTE
$62, available at Sephora and UrbanDecay.com.sg.
What is it: An eyeshadow palette consisting of 8 stunningly bright colours inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat’s artwork
What’s so good about it: The intensity and pigmentation of the colours, which are simple GORGEOUS. It goes without saying that Urban Decay is known for their eyeshadows, gaining a cult following for their series of Naked palettes. While I’m not really a Naked kind of person, their other (more colourful) eyeshadow palettes have found their way into my makeup stash. I love bright colours, and the purple and blues are my go-to colours when it comes to eyeshadows. The intense pigments means that I don’t really need to spend too long building up the colour. My favourite shade is of course the matte blue because cooler colours work better on me, which I love to pair with blue eyeliner. The palette also comes in a limited edition case that is a mini reproduction of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s artwork, with a little hook at the back so that you can hang it up on your wall once you’re done with it (yes, you can use your eyeshadow palette as wall decor).

Jade Yeo, Writer
Hi there. It’s your friendly neighbourhood beauty writer Jade, back again to remind you guys that I’m stuck with a combination of sensitive and acne-prone skin, which ought to explain why I’m really picky about the stuff I introduce to my routine. So before you scroll through my list and go, β€œThat wasn’t launched in 2017!”, do note that the struggle to find beauty products I truly enjoy is in fact, very real. That said, I did manage to find 5 stellar items this year, and while 4 of them weren’t launched this year, I’m still incredibly grateful that fate (and my debit card) brought us together.
IMG_2973
NYX MICRO BROW PENCIL (shade: Black)
$15, available at NYX stores and Sephora.
What is it: An affordable, micro-tipped mechanical brow pencil that shapes, defines and fills in sparse brows easily.
What’s so good about it: This has been touted as the best dupe for the famed Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz for good reason. My natural brows aren’t too sparse, so the skinny tip makes for great precision work when I’m feathering in fine lines to mimic my brow hairs. It’s not the first time I’ve raved about this, but I feel like this deserves another mention. Ever since I started using it, my brows have been getting regular compliments from friends, acquaintances, and even random strangers – I’m not kidding. This girl who stood opposite me on the train was staring at my face and the moment we made eye contact, she bashfully said, β€œSorry… You have really nice brows.” D’aww.

JO MALONE ENGLISH OAK & HAZELNUT COLOGNE
$104 for 30ml, $208 for 100ml; available at Jo Malone stores.
What is it: A woody, spicy fragrance for both men and women, crafted by perfumer Yann Vasnier. Opens with green hazelnut before settling to a cedarwood base, rounding off with roasted oak absolute.
What’s so good about it: I prefer woodier, more masculine scents, and because of that, I tend to smell like a winter lumberjack melting in the Singapore heat, so I’ve been searching for a lighter option for humid days. This Jo Malone fragrance surprised me when I first wore it. It opened with a fresh mossy note that’s subtly tinged with hazelnut, and before it even settled down to a warm earthy base of roasted oak and addictive vetiver, I had fallen completely in love with it. It’s not as heavy as its fragrance notes suggest, so it’s pretty much the perfect scent to wear all year round, rain or shine.

KAIA NATURALS THE TAKESUMI DETOX BAMBOO CHARCOAL DEODORANT (scent: Cold Pressed Rose)
US$21 (full size) and US$9.50 (travel size), available at KaiaNaturals.com.
$32, part of AprΓ¨s Avant’s The Exercise Essentials Set.
What is it: An all-natural deodorant which features activated charcoal to absorb bacteria and toxins.
What’s so good about it: Like every other natural deodorant on the market, this is a cleaner, conscious alternative that rids your routine of aluminium, a common ingredient found in conventional deodorants that unhealthily blocks sweat glands and prevents perspiration. But natural deodorants aren’t always perfect. Most of them are made with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and aromatic essential oils to help reduce odour, ingredients my sensitive pits react to, which is why I appreciate Kaia Naturals for omitting those. The combination of activated charcoal and arrowroot powder helps to keep my underarms smelling fresh all day and dry for longer. It also doesn’t leave a tacky residue unlike other options that are packed with oils and shea butter.

KOSAS LIPSTICK (shade: Stardust)
US$28, available at KosasCosmetics.com.
What is it: A handmade, longwear lip colour that goes on sheer and leaves a semi-matte finish. One of eight fuss-free hues for all skin tones, consisting of reds, plums and rosy neutrals. Free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates.
What’s so good about it: Some of you might be aware of my undying love for natural beauty products, and here’s another one that joined my growing list this year. Made with a nourishing blend of shea butter, green tea, rosehip, and grape seed oils, this lipstick has been my daily go-to when my chapped lips are in need of some serious TLC. Formula aside, I’d been searching for a MLBB shade that’s neither too pink nor beige, so this shade fits the bill. It’s a warm rose with a hint of lavender, which is why this neutral shade is able to wake my overall complexion in dreary mornings. I’ve also been dabbing a little of it on my lids to add some definition to my eyes.

SUNTEGRITY 5-IN-1 NATURAL MOISTURIZING TINTED FACE SUNSCREEN SPF 30 (shade: Light)
$72, available at PureTincture.com.
What is it: A natural, all-in-one, tinted physical sunscreen / BB cream that nourishes, hydrates, protects, primes and evens out skin tone.
What’s so good about it: It’s probably the best green beauty swap for the cult-fave It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream. There’s balancing jojoba and sunflower seed oils in the formula to keep my skin hydrated throughout the day without feeling too greasy, while green tea and cucumber extracts work to soothe any irritation. My complexion looks much less like a tomato after I’ve smoothed this tinted cream on, so I don’t have to use as much foundation or concealer after, too. And of course, it’s fragrance-free – something my skin’s incredibly happy about.

Singapore’s First Ever Transformers Run To Be Held at Sentosa on 6 Jan, 2018

Gone are the good ol’ days when a run consisted of slapping on track shoes and heading down the HDB block for a few rounds around the estate. No more. There are plenty of funky themed-runs to check out these days, ranging from the super kawaii – the PokΓ©mon run is one good example, to the downright wacky (teh tarik run, anyone)?
Nevertheless, there’s only one run in the world that’s worthy of getting β€œin disguise” for, and that’s the Transformers Run, which will have its first edition at Palawan Green, Sentosa, on 6 January, 2018, from 12pm to 8pm.
Organised by I-PROMO, and based on the gen one storyline where the Autobots and Decepticons engage in a civil war, this 5-km run will have Transformers characters like Optimus Prime, Bumble Bee, Starscream, Megatron, and Grimlock placed around the race grounds for picture-taking, while each participant will also receive exclusive merchandise and coupons.

23915616_10155556950816273_4156893845823824222_n

That’s not all though. Besides the run, there will also be a carnival at the event, with booths, games, and activities to check out. Think NERF game trials, inflatables, balloon sculptures, on-stage contests, and food and beverage stalls. In other words, it’s all the family fun you can think of squeezed into a single day!
And there’s a charitable aspect too. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to social services supported by the Community Chest, as well as vulnerable families in the South West District, so there’s a good reason to buy a ticket if there was any.
If you’re interested in attending the event, ticket prices start at $85, and participants will receive a medal (automatically of course), an event T-shirt, a drawstring bag, water bottle, as well as a wristband. There are no age limits for the run.

How Instagram Stories Decimated Snapchat In 2017

Let’s face it: Snapchat invented 24-hour-only running social media content. Our now infallible necessity to capture life’s greatest and most mundane moments to share with our friends couldn’t have existed without it, and apps like Snow and WhatsApp have been desperately co-opting its technology.
But a good trick often doesn’t work twice, and in most cases such hype-chasers have been left to circle their own drains. Social media giant Instagram, however, seems to be doing a pretty good, if not better job at attracting its followers to use its IG Stories feature. Not only does it attract some 500,000,000 daily users, its interface and usability is always evolving.
You probably have seen people using these updates to spice up theirΒ daily stories, but may not know how fun they are to use and customise yourself. Check out how we love using Instagram stories.

Let’s start with a picture. Here’s one of our fabulous NYLON Singapore office sign with a Christmas wreath dangling from it:

IMG_5181

No offence NYLON Singapore, but this photo’s pretty basic. Sure, it’s a beautiful sign (winks!),Β but it doesn’t say much about how we feel towards it. Stories is all about showing off our personality,Β but this picture surely isn’t doing ours justice.
1

Filters New York, Tokyo and Melbourne

The most basic way to increase the visual interest of our stories is by applying in-app filters to our pictures. This can be done simply by swiping left or right through the numerous filters on Instagram, named by famous cities around the world that somehow give off a relevant vibe to the filter its attached to.
2
If the picture isn’t speaking the thousand words you’re looking for, why not add text to your stories? Type out a snappy caption-like opinion and as a nod to SEO tag the relevant people, places or brands featured in your photo as a mini shoutout.
If you want your words to stand out, click the A on the right top hand corner of the screen to highlight your text, and play with colours to improve readability. Resize your text to fit the layout of your story, and add as many text boxes as you need to tell a story. Click on the font name on the center top of the screen to change it.

3
Otherwise, selectΒ the pen tool and hold on the screen for five seconds to turn your entire story into a coloured background. Include fun time-sensitive stickers, or even roll a poll to get people’s feedback on silly questions you may have that day. Look at what a simple bombardment of text, emojis and colour can add to your story, all done within a matter of seconds!

There’re also other ways of presenting our stories that we can’t stop using! Going Live is one way to show our stories in real time, so if we want to interact with our followers while we’re applying makeup at home or in a cab on the way to a party it’s a great option to kill time.

Boomerang

Boomerangs are a super cute way to add motion to your stories. These GIFs capture three seconds of action and play them on a loop, so it’s important to look extra camera ready and strike a pose for them!

Stop-Motion

This is stop-motion without fuss. Just snap several pictures and Instagram instantly pieces them together to form a cohesive story.

Superzoom

Okay, we have a soft spot for the Superzoom. Depending on when you use this feature they’re a myriad of Superzoom music options, from dreamy kindergarten bedtime music to punchy club beats. This one’s extra dramatic and spruces up even the most boring of life’s moments.

All Our Favourite TV Shows/Movies of 2017, and Why They’re So Binge-Worthy

Everyone has a go-to β€œsomething” for when they’re bored or stressed. And for many people, that something comes in the form of TV shows and movies. It’s basically the perfect kill-time antidote, and 2017 has been blessed with a host of great content. So without further ado, here is a list of our favourite TV shows/movies and why you guys should watch them too:
Joel Conceicao, Writer

Okja

I’ve never been a fan of K-films. Always found them too sappy, and they’re more than what my cringe tolerance can usually handle. So it was to my surprise that I fell in love with Okja. Sure, it’s not your typical Korean flick, having been co-produced along with Netflix, with big Hollywood names like Steven Yeun, Tilda Swinton, and Jake Gyllenhaal starring in big roles. But it asked important questions that I think society is struggling to tackle, like how do we save the environment while continuing to eat what we eat? How far will food companies go for profit? Or are the vegans right? Is killing for food a moral stain on our souls? Philosophies aside, the super pig Okja was just so cute! And seeing her tortured at the slaughterhouse sucked – definitely a tearjerker this movie, and will make you reconsider your dietary choices.
Narcos Season 3

There’s just something fascinating about gangsters, especially drug dealers. They’re really just violent maniacs that don’t give a damn about what society thinks of them, and they take what they want, when they want. If they’re powerful enough, they’ll conquer whole cities too, which is basically the core storyline of Narcos Season 3. Everything good and decent goes to shit because of overly powerful drug kingpins dominating what is essentially a narcotics-driven society, with corrupt law enforcement officials, shady politicians, dangerous hit men, and the interference of the CIA (this is all based on real life, mind you). Plus, season 3 is all about subtlety, with sneaky tactics like money laundering and bribes taking prevalence over Escobar’s lionised, gung-ho terror-like approach. In one word, this show is chilling. Two words? Binge-worthy.

Logan

Despite the influx of superhero movies this year, Logan continues to be the one that broke the mould. Having been FOX’s first film in the X-men franchise that disregarded all censorship, we finally get to see Wolverine for what he really is – a foul-mouthed drunk with a raging temper. I, for one, am glad that they’re finally bringing the real Logan in all his crude glory to the big screen. I silently cheered whenever he and the equally savage Laura tore through their assailants in a brilliant display of blood and guts. Carnage aside, a huge part of why this movie resonated with me so much is the fact that there’s just enough emotional overtones for me to have my heart tugged, and coming from someone who’s watched every single X-men film…seeing Professor X deteriorate to what he was, and that damned ending…I’m not ashamed to say that I cried. A lot. Their problems were realistic enough to invoke tears in non-Marvel fans, while the storyline kept existing fans satisfied. It was the perfect marriage of realism and fantasy, and it made me want a version of the other superhero films that was catered to adults instead just so I don’t have to hear awkward, forced jokes every five minutes. That aside, there was really no better way to send off Hugh Jackman as he donned those metal claws for the final time.
Game of Thrones
The night is dark and full of spoilers. You have been warned.

Honestly, if you have yet to watch the latest season of Game of Thrones (allow me to ring the bell while reciting the word β€˜shame’), chances are the Internet has already spoiled you on what went down. While I felt a little shortchanged since Season 7 was made up of only 7 episodes that were not as long as originally promised, there were enough satisfying moments (Daenerys VS The Lannister army! Baelish gets β€˜reacquainted’ with his dagger! Viserion! The entire Dragon Pit scene!!) to fill up our weekly lunch discussions the day after the episode aired. Despite the complaints I have about the season (I mean, killing two Houses off? Really?) I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy every episode. After all, now that Dany’s dragons are not as impervious as we thought, it’s really anyone’s game now. Having said that, Game of Thrones has a good reputation of leaving us with a damned cliffhanger that makes us dread the one-year wait for the next season. In this case, it’sΒ two whole years before we revisit Westeros. Oh well, our watch begins now.

Wonder Woman

2017 has been the year of the superhero movie, but none quite satisfied me like Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman. Sure, she’s an Amazonian (in and outside her role), but her beauty in the film is never overpowered by her strength and determination to do good. Her naivetΓ© of the real world showed me that it’s still a good thing to have a moral compass and not bow down to societal standards of acceptability. We certainly need female empowerment represented in media these days, and what better way to execute that with an idol we all grew up looking up to.
American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson

Having not grown up in the States, the OJ Simpson trials were never a huge discussion among the people in my life. I’ve heard references to his White Broncho chase and alleged homicide, but the sensationalism surrounding his celebrity didn’t hit me until I watched Ryan Murphy’s retelling of this important part of American pop culture. The acting was spot-on, the directing made the series even more riveting, and somehow the story felt relevant even in today’s context. I already can’t wait for Season 2, which follows the assassination of famed designer Gianni Versace

Bad GeniusΒ

There’s been so many good movies released this year that I can talk about for ages, but everyone took all the good ones first. So here is mine: a Thai heist thriller. But this heist is not your typical gun robbery or police-and-thief chase; it’s about something as mundane as crimes can go – cheating. How Nattawut Poonpiriya managed to wrangle a thriller film out of a high school examination is already reason for praise. I mean; we all know cheating exists, some of us having partook in it too, but seeing it unfold on the big screen was certainly nerve-wracking as far as thrillers go. Punctuated with those sparse jokes that only Thai movies can pull off, Bad Genius pits intellectual and ethical integrity against each other as (yawn) sparks fly between our two leads whilst they navigate a rigged social system, with a hefty dose of misguided loyalty thrown in for good measure. It might sound boring, but the movie will suck you into its plot so fast you won’t feel like you just bought a one-way ticket to a two hour snooze-fest. The only gripe I had was that the twist at the end felt a bit out of place because you would not want to encourage academic dishonest considering the half the audience would still be in school, but humans are fickle characters after all. Another score for Thai cinema!
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

Honestly I only watched this series because Nam Joo Hyuk was the main lead (yes, I’m one of those people) but the drama totally won me over. The chemistry between the two leads was off the charts because it turns out that THEY WERE FLIRTING FOR REAL. Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk, who star as the main lead couple, are both models turned actors, but they were a pair that were really easy on the eyes and had way too many hilarious scenes. Now that I’m done gushing about my favourite ship, the drama is about a group of college athletes as they pursue their sports dreams that were inspired by the life of Olympic gold-medalist Jang Mi-Ran. It makes the perfect coming-of-age drama as it really highlights the struggles that athletes face for choosing to pursue a β€˜tougher’ career, especially when it comes to weightlifting. While Lee Sung Kyung is not exactly aesthetically unpleasing (she’s a model after all), the character she plays – Kim Bok Joo – is made out to be unattractive as a weightlifter because of the nature of the sport and its unpopularity compared to other major sports like swimming and gymnastics. The drama really touches on the angst of growing up; building friendships, and that sometimes willpower alone is not reason enough to pursue your dreams. Oh, and there’s plenty of hilarious scenes which makes Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo a pretty lighthearted drama overall. Definitely recommend it, especially if you love K-dramas!

Coco

One of Pixar’s best works β€” I watched this twice and cried both times. The animation and colours are beautiful, the exploration of culture is done well, and the narrative of death in a kid’s movie is handled perfectly. Above all that, however, is this film’s incredibly creative and well-thought out story. It’s funny, clever, and equally as immersive as the visual spectacle that this film is.
Black-ish

Not only is this show hilarious af β€” making it a perfect watch after a long day at work β€” but this family sit-com also covers very relevant and current controversial topics that is usually not discussed at the dinner table. Oh, and the casting is on point too.
Nurasyiqin Sedik, Media Executive

IT

A lot of people told me that the book was way better than the movie but since I’ve never read it, I went in without any expectations and really loved it! IT wasn’t as scary as I thought it was going to be but I loved how the movie kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The Pennywise Projector scene has got to be my favourite scene – I remember my heart beating really fast in the cinemas because it was super, super creepy!! I believe there’s going to be a part two to the movie and I’m looking forward to it already (if there really is a sequel, that is). In the meantime, guess I’ll pick up the book first and find out what I’m missing out.
American Horror Story: Cult

The show started off slow and a little boring to be honest but I’m glad I did not give up on the series and watched it through. After about 5 episodes, the major twisted factor AHS is known for kicked in – it was a relief, as I knew I wouldn’t be sitting through a disappointing season. I especially loved Evan Peters’ character development and personally thought his performance in Cult was his best as he pulled off every emotionally intense scene really well.
Jade Yeo, Writer

A Ghost Story

From the title alone, you’d assume this film is in the same vein as Paranormal Activity. But it isn’t. In A Ghost Story, Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara play a married couple living in a small, modest home, and one day, Casey’s character is killed in a car accident right outside their house. Deceased, he returns home in the form of a cartoonish white-sheeted ghost to visit his wife, and from there, he embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history in a spectral state. I went to see this film with a friend quite blindly because apart from the fact that my all-time girl crush Rooney Mara was in it, I knew pretty much nothing else. This turned out to be one of the most impactful films I’ve ever seen in my life. And if you’ve ever read The Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard, you’ll probably appreciate this film even more. It compels you to recall moments you’ve shared with someone in a lived space, as well as confront the immensity of existence. This film is unlike any other, and it continues to haunt me till this day, I shit you not.
Mindhunter

In this 10-episode drama, Jonathan Groff (you might remember him from Glee) plays FBI agent Holden Ford, who is instrumental in expanding our understanding of murderous psychopathy in the late 1970s. Together with his fellow agent, they travel around the US interviewing serial killers and recording their responses to develop a system, helping them categorise killers and possibly predict future behaviours. Sounds a bit like The Silence of the Lambs, but unlike the movie, Mindhunter is actually based on this true crime book. Yup, my latest Netflix obsession has terrifying roots in reality, which makes it even better to be honest. It’s a compelling story that’s masterfully handled by my favourite director David Fincher, as we watch Holden’s mind begin to unravel towards the end of its first season.

Why These Korean Cushion Compacts Reign Supreme

Remember trying a cushion foundation for the first time? We do, and we haven’t looked back since. Applying base makeup has never been easier – there’s no need to scramble for a mirror or a brush, and you don’t even have to wet your makeup sponge, because with a cushion compact, you have it all in your hands. Believe it or not, this option didn’t exist 10 years ago. But that all changed when South Korean beauty and cosmetics conglomerate AmorePacific introduced their first-ever cushion to the world 9 years ago, and have continued to revolutionise K-beauty from that moment on.

This year, AmorePacific whisked us away to Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa at Kota Kinabalu for their annual summit, where we peered under the AmorePacific umbrella, home to K-beauty brands with the likes of Sulwhasoo, Laneige, Mamonde, Etude House and innisfree – major ones currently leading the cushion market. Over 3 days, we immersed ourselves in innovative sessions, hands-on classes, and a discussion spearheaded by a panel of insiders such as the Head of AmorePacific’s ASEAN Business Robin Na, Chief Makeup Artist Jason Lee, and a trio of dedicated in-house beauty researchers, Yunha Lee, Junseong Park, and Hajin Jung.
If there’s one name to look to when it comes to Korean beauty, Amorepacific is it. They’ve got a solid game plan to turn the innovation dial up, and they’ve showed us why their cushion compacts still reign supreme in a competitive global market.

THEY CREATED THE WORLD’S FIRST CUSHION COMPACT
It all started with the IOPE Air Cushion launched in 2008. Developed as an easy way to reapply sunscreen, the IOPE cushion was designed as a portable compact case that held a sponge soaked in pigmented liquid foundation infused with nourishing ingredients as well as SPF. 9 years on, South Korea’s beauty behemoth has crafted a wide range of cushions that cater to specific needs and preferences, taking their innovation beyond foundations, giving birth to products such as the Eyebrow Cushion-cara. So even if you’re not one for Korean , there’s no denying its powerful presence in the mainstream industry. After all, it says a ton when you’ve got every drugstore, high street, and luxury beauty brand serving up their own version of the cushion.

THERE’S A DEDICATED R&D TEAM BEHIND THEIR CUSHION COMPACTS
AmorePacific has a research unit that’s solely dedicated to enhancing its cushion technology known as the Cushion Lab, and needless to say, it’s a unit we all wish we could be a part of. The lab profiles customers from the ASEAN region, working to achieve the ideal sensory and textural properties to better suit our preferences. With over 70 years of expertise under their belt, AmorePacific is expanding rapidly with a mammoth 100,000 square metre R&D / manufacturing facility in Johor Bahru that’s slated for 2020. Their commitment to charting new territory in the realm of beauty research is certainly unparalleled.

THEIR KEY HERITAGE INGREDIENTS ARE DERIVED FROM NATURE
Global beauty trends have taken on a healthier, more holistic approach, which ties in with AmorePacific’s belief that the best ingredients come from from Mother Nature. For over 70 years, AmorePacific has been conducting research on botanicals, focusing on antioxidant-rich ingredients native to Asia, namely ginseng, green tea, and beans. Leader of the Heritage Material Research Junseong Park tells us that they’ve also honed in on countless beneficial natural ingredients such as camellia, hibiscus, rice, water, and bamboo. He says, “Some examples of the use of natural ingredients include LANEIGE and MAMONDE. LANEIGE focuses heavily on water and hydration of the skin while MAMONDE focuses on delivering the vitality of flowers to the skin and in make-up products.”

THEIR CUSHIONS ARE DEVELOPED SPECIFICALLY FOR ASEAN CUSTOMERS
Cushion Researcher Hajin Jung shares that unlike the dewy formula Koreans love so much, customers in the ASEAN regions desire a cushion compact that delivers a powdery and matte finish, which is why AmorePacific has been meticulously developing and expanding its matte formulations. A good example would be the LANEIGE BB Cushion Pore Control that was made to adapt to our soaring temperatures and high humidity. She adds, “One of the more recent launches from AmorePacific include the LANEIGE Powder Fit Cushion. With its mesh net that enables easier and quicker matte makeup, the cushion has been very well received in the ASEAN market.” AmorePacific prides itself on the wealth of knowledge it has about their consumers, and the products they’ve created thus far proves that a little research goes a very long way.

Dr. Pimple Popper Is Set To Get Her Own TV Special on TLC

Why people love watching videos of pimples being popped is one of the greatest mysteries of our time. What’s clear is that people do love it.Β Dr. Pimple Popper, theΒ Youtube personality, dermatologistΒ Sandra Lee,Β has earned over three million subscribers. Now, these fans will be able to catch blackhead, whitehead, and cyst removals in high def, because TLC is about to launch a Dr. Pimple Popper show.

This Is ZitΒ premieres on January 3 at 10 P.M. ET, according to its Facebook page. It’ll feature Lee removing an epidermoid cyst, which pops up when skin has “turned under and formed a little sac” resembling oatmeal, a hard boiled egg, or wet newspaper. So weird. So…fascinating.

“Isn’t it absolutely fascinating what comes out of our skin?” she asks in another video for the series. Indeed β€” fascinating and horrifying. This mixture of fascinating and horrifying is definitely why her videos are so popular, and why people, in general, have a hard time avoiding popping their own blemishes at home.

Lee describes the series in an Instagram video as “behind-the-scenes footage of what I do in my office, how I go about doing it, more explanation of the types of things that I pop out, a lot of my favourite videos, a lot of my top pops… and three never before seen pops are there for you as well.”
If herΒ videos’ popularityΒ is any indication, this show’s viewing rates will be off the charts.

Take A Piece of Gabrielle and Karl's Legacies With You At CHANEL's "Mademoiselle PrivΓ©" Exhibition

In the early 90’s, fashion was an important signifier of class and gender. Dapper men put on bespoke three-piece suits while women of a certain elk decorated themselves with enormous cake dresses and wide-brimmed hats topped with some form of floral finish. Feminism was a non-factor in society, certainly not in fashion, until Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel homogenised the female dress-code. Now, we recognise CHANEL from its immaculate jewelleryΒ and evocative ready-to-wear, but that’s credit to Karl Lagerfeld,Β it’s long-serving creative director who’s visionary designs have empowered women, up from his colourful tweedΒ spins down to his shimmery two-toned shoes.

It doesn’t matter if you love CHANEL as much as our editor-in-chief who visited “Mademoiselle PrivΓ©” Seoul in JulyΒ or just boughtΒ the latest CHANEL Gabrielle fragranceΒ for a piece of its namesake, the CHANEL “Mademoiselle PrivΓ©” exhibition is making its way to Hong Kong worthΒ a four-hour flight just to attend! Succeeding its pitstops at London in 2015 and Seoul earlier this year, “Mademoiselle PrivΓ©” details the minds of CHANEL’s two greatest contributors through an elaborate display of their works in Hong Kong’s landmark PMQ.

Fashion exhibitions have long been criticised for being superficial, but Alexander McQueen’s “Savage Beauty” in 2011 and Rei Kawakubo’s Comme DesΒ GarΓ§ons “The Art Of In-Between” this year have set track records proving otherwise. And if there’s one personΒ we can count on to consistently transform aΒ room into fantasy, it’s Lagerfeld; curating the works and shifting the space, the “Mademoiselle PrivΓ©” will see CHANEL emblems including Lagerfeld’s imagination of haute couture,Β CHANEL NΒ°5 fragrance and exquisite jewellery.

It's Still 2017 But This Sneaker's Already A 2018 Hot Favourite

For a moment there we were concerned if the world had become incapable of appreciating the slowness of luxury fashion. We can’t help but admit that Prada was turning into an underdog with powerhouses like Balenciaga and GucciΒ hoggingΒ the spotlight of the press, but it seems like its creative model is slowly creeping back the radar of the general public again.

Prada Mens SS18 by Vogue

For a few seasons now Miuccia Prada’s been toying around the idea of incorporating a comic book aesthetic into her clothes, a great way to inject colour and youth into her collections. Sportswear has by now become a mainstay even in luxury fashion, from Valentino and Fendi doing up immaculate mashes of the two spectrum-ends. While Prada’s no stranger to being aesthetically relevant, perhaps due to bad PR or that it doesn’t stock its collections in-store we just weren’t seeing it being worn on the streets that much.

But a strong vision and unshakable faith seems to be paying off.Β Sitting neatly next to our Balenciaga Triple S’sΒ and Gucci Rhytons, the PradaΒ CloudbustsΒ are a futuristic sneaker made with mesh-fabric and rubber, topped by a single velcro strap branded “Prada.” TheΒ Vela bum bagsΒ were pretty popular earlier this year, but we’re anticipating these shoes will stomp their ways into the Hypebeast wardrobe very soon. These kicks come in colourwaysΒ chrome, black and cloudy grey, white and cloudy grey. Already available to purchase, these retail (and are still available as we speak) at $1200 on MatchesFashion but have been selling out everywhere pretty quickly.
We might not all have the opportunity to travel on the SpaceX to Mars, but we sure can look like aliens on roads with our sci-fi sneakers.

Basically Why You Should Always Get Front Row Seats To Shawn Mendes’ Concert

Even though you might not know who Shawn Mendes is, we’re almost willing to bet that you have heard his songs before playing somewhere in a mall or in your morning Uber ride to work. ‘There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back’, ‘Stitches’, and ‘Mercy’ by Shawn Mendes are catchy tunes which will get stuck in your head for the next week every time you listen to them (speaking from our own experience). Because we’ve been unknowingly singing to Shawn Mendes for a good half a year, we decided to head down for his debut concert in Singapore at The Star Theatre even though itΒ cutting it real close toΒ Day 2 of this year’s ZoukOut, butΒ it turned out to be well worth the detour.

It might beΒ Shawn’sΒ first concert in sunny Singapore, but it certainly isn’tΒ hisΒ first world tour. In fact, his Illuminate World Tour is his third world tour, with dates all over America, Europe, Australia, and (FINALLY) Asia. ForΒ an artist who hasn’t even hit his twenties;Β it’s a pretty impressive feat in itself! The Shawn Mendes Army turned out in full force to support the crooner, but nothing could have really prepared us for the sheer volume of screams when the singer took the stage. It was INTENSE as Shawn blazed through his biggest hits and songs off his latest album, Illuminate, likeΒ ‘Mercy’, ‘Patience’, ‘Bad Reputation’ and ‘Treat You Better’ amidst tons of fan interactions. And then there was more, when the singer ditched his guitar for a piano for an absolutely ethereal cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Castle On The Hill’. Oh and non-stop declarations of his love for his fans, loads of high-fiving and blowing kisses to the audience.

This Canadian heartthrob won’t have any mercy on your heart because his honey vocals and cute smile will ruin your bias list. Who is Justin Bieber again? Seriously,Β you won’t be able to resist this adorable potato once you’ve seen him live – it’s that earth-shattering.Β Shawn Mendes might have wrapped up his Illuminate World Tour, but we’ll bet that he has tons of other gigs lined up and will probably come back with another albumΒ soon (fingers crossed here!).

Here’s a couple ofΒ pictures reasons why we think that you shouldΒ get front row seats the next time you decide to head to a Shawn Mendes concert. You’ll thank us for it.

1. HisΒ gorgeous smile that just makes us melt in our shoes every. single. time.

If you’re going to be paying so much for a concert, you would want a good view!

2. Get up close and personal, with every single wink Shawn makes in your direction. Any further than three rows back and you won’t be able to see anything!

Is that a wink or not? Either way, it’sΒ still cute.

3.Β Can’t afford some merchandise? $80 for a shirt is a rip off honestly, but if you are in the first few rows, you might just be within guitar pick range whenever Shawn decides to gift guitar picks to the audience that he actually performed with. Armed with sharp eyes and a hefty does of luck, you’ll be able to score a guitar pick thrown off the stage by the man himself. You’re welcome.

4. Shawn always gives emotional performances, making his songs so much more relatable – which isn’t really that much of a surprise since it comes from the heart. Yupp, the boy writes pretty much all his own songs from his albums, both which debuted atop the Billboard charts. No big deal, really.

Just look all those veins – expected from a model himself. Just in case you weren’t aware, Shawn’s part of a model agency too!

5. He’s a total klutz – but an adorable one at that! YouTube’s full of videos of him falling over the stage and tripping over wires, but we didn’t get any of that at his Singapore show. If those are the little moments that you hope to catch, then a front row seat is worth the chance.

H&M's Newest Line's A First For Netocrats Who Crave Affordable Luxury

In the age of high-street-meets-high-end, we’re growingΒ increasingly comfortable with the idea of mixing classics from our favourite fast-fashion retailers along Orchard road and accessorising them with our investment splurgesΒ fromΒ  piecesΒ offΒ Gucci x DSM’s exclusive collectionΒ or Chanel’s Greek jewellery. It’s financially friendly and, frankly, forces us to be more creative with the way we dress.
This is the also reason why H&M’s collaboration with artists succeed.Β This year saw their team-ups with Justin Bieber and ErdemΒ on separate occasions, and on both their clothes exemplified the best of both worlds: designs thatΒ signify an aspirational image, and price tags we don’t have to skip lunches over.
Diversifying beyond the sometimes disparaged idea of fast fashion, H&M has other cool brands like COS and ARKET under its belt; and its latest venture has many of us millennials leaping with joy, again.

/NYDEN, as it’s stylised, is a Swedish portmanteau for “now” and “it.” If it’s rather on-the-nose at least it’s in Swedish so most of us will think that’s cool, but what the label is setting out to do it just that: create clothes that you won’t need second thoughts over. A quick look atΒ itsΒ social media platforms might give us a hint of the aesthetic they’re going for, inoffensive timelessness. Upon signingΒ yourΒ email into its official website the slogan “Welcome to the tribe” will appear, and by tribe we’re guessing we it means the /NYDEN mailing list.

We kid.Β H&M’s long-serving Oscar Olsson who will helm /NYDEN as creative director, explained to The CutΒ that in the future “fashion will be broken up into tribes, each with their own creative, influential, style-defining tribe leaders.” If Olsson means the reinvention of subcultures, we’re totally up for it.
Netocrats (or millennials) will be the first to attest to how sick they are from the inundation of advertising force-fed to them every day. /NYDEN directly opposes such inauthenticity, set to invite designers and “muses” onboard each season to create personal collections that will be released as capsules and at varying price points. We don’t have any idea when the label is launching, but we’ve already joined the tribe through their official website.
