Imagine, the world at your feet, an uplifting thought that’s possible thanks to Superga‘s newest collaboration with character brand, Slimy Oddity. Ever a vision of wholesome positivity, you might have seen comic panels floating around that showcases Slimy, an amorphous red blob, who often explores existential ideas and the universal human condition.
Hold that depressing thought though, because Slimy confronts these with selfless love, self-affirmation and empowerment, ideas that then translate to some of Superga’s most classic sneaker silhouettes. The Superga x Slimy Oddity collection consists of 5 sneakers filled with artwork and positive quotes.
The signature Superga 2750 sneaker, for instance, features “Open Your Mind” against a neutral beige backdrop. Then, there are two 2630 models with their chunky-soled silhouettes; one sees multicoloured illustrations and matching multi-coloured eyelets, while the other is a minimalist design with the quote “Love Can Save The World” on the heel. The last two are junior designs, of slip-on shoes in white and sky-blue.
Take a look at the collection here before it launches on 4 August —
Superga x Slimy Oddity 2750 Open Your Mind | $139.90
Superga x Slimy Oddity 2630 Love Can Save the World | $149.90
Superga x Slimy Oddity 2630 Be Free | $149.90

For rugged wear with a touch of whimsy, we only have to look at this upcoming Levi’s® collection, just announced today, that ought to delight film and denim enthusiasts alike. We’re talking about Levi’s® x Princess Mononoke, a denim collection dreamt up in collaboration with Studio Ghibli, which honours the beloved Hayao Miyazaki fantasy film, released in 1997, and then considered ahead of its time for its beautiful animation style and poetic environmental ethos. The collection is set to be released from 10 August 2023.
Inspired by the hand-painted landscapes and mythical forest creatures in Princess Mononoke, the Levi’s® collection captures the animated film’s whimsical aesthetic across the denim brand’s iconic styles. Standouts include the San & Wolf Trucker Jacket ($289.90), the Ashitaka 501® ’93 Jeans ($189.90), and the San & Moro 501® Shorts ($149.90) crafted with what they’re calling “atmospheric denim”; this looks like a tie-dye treatment, but upon closer inspection, we can observe lush forest and sun imagery seamlessly integrated into light wash denim. Similarly, an artfully-faded image of the princess herself can be spotted on the denim jacket style.
At the other end of the spectrum, we get dark indigo designs of the Nightwalker Denim Kimono Jacket ($209.90) and the Kodama Denim Overall ($219.90), which evoke the mood of the characters’ environments. The kimono jacket, in particular, is nicely done in a flattering cut, in a silhouette that harkens back to Japanese culture and film.
On top of these, the collection includes graphic t-shirts, and accessories such as an Ancient Forest Bucket Hat ($109.90) and San & Ashitaka Tote ($179.90), as well as two coin bags featuring San’s mask and a Kodama face, should you wish to opt for a head-to-toe look.
“Over 25 years after its release, Princess Mononoke continues to resonate deeply with audiences across the globe as an animated icon,” said Karyn Hillman, Chief Product Officer at Levi Strauss & Co. “It was a joy to collaborate with Studio Ghibli and create such a beautiful collection that pays tribute to this compelling, artistic masterpiece.”

We’re now in Seoul for one of the most exciting phone announcements of the year — The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5. Alongside these new phones, there’s also the Galaxy Watch6, Galaxy Watch6 Classic, and Galaxy Tab S9 Series. Jumping straight into it, here’s what everything new looks like:
The flip phone is perhaps the most exciting product announced at Samsung Unpacked and the focus of this article. Samsung made huge improvements from their last model (the Galaxy Z Flip4), most notably, there’s now a large 3.4″ Cover Screen (called the Flex Window) that spans nearly the entire panel. And with a bigger screen, you can do greater things. There are 13 proprietary widgets that let you customise what you want to see on the Flex Window, with the ability to toggle an option within your other commonly used apps, to see them on the cover screen as well. More on that below.
Another improvement is when the device is closed, there’s no gap at the hinge. The panels flush flat together, and the look is sleeker, neater and overall more compact.
Above: The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 closed in the hand. It is samsung’s most compact flip phone ever.

Samsung says that this is their most compact Galaxy Z Flip yet. It appears very close in size and dimension to the Galaxy Z Flip4, but the Galaxy Z Flip5 has shaved off 2mm from the thickness when closed — again, because no gap.
So bigger front screen (the Flex Window), and no gap when closed (like another flip phone we know in the market). Now let’s talk about what the Flex Window can do.
Above: (left) the large exterior screen / (right) the phone is nice and compact and will fit easily into any bag.

FLEX WINDOW + WIDGETS
Pinch the screen, and this activates Multi Widget View. This view shows you all the widgets available at a glance, and lets you switch between them instantly. Widgets include the weather, music playback control, calendar, stock market updates (from the Google Finance widget), direct dial, alarm, stopwatch, timer, voice recorder, steps, and SmartThings scenes.
You can also check notifications, browse call history, return missed calls, access Samsung Wallet9 (to pay for stuff and open your digital passes), and access your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings without having to open the device. What’s also most convenient is that you can now reply to text messages using Quick Reply — this brings up a full QWERTY keyboard and shows the chat history.
Above: The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 with various cases.

FLEX MODE + CAMERA SYSTEM
Samsung doesn’t particularly tout the Galaxy Z Flip5 as a camera phone (look to the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra for this), but its camera system holds its own weight and complements all the other things users love about the phone — such as the ability to sit the phone up and take hands-free pictures from creative angles with it. This becomes a truly versatile camera experience.
From the Flex Window, you can get a clear view of yourself while taking selfies (influencers and content creators will love this), and also from the Flex Window, there’s a Quick View function that lets the user review, adjust colour tone or delete images — it’s a convenience we never knew we wanted.
If you’re taking a photo of your friend, there’s another thing called Dual Preview that lets them see themselves in the Flex Window, so they can effectively use it as a mirror to adjust themselves.

ACCESSORIES
Saving the best for last, you’re going to flip over the variety of accessories available for the new Galaxy Z Flip5. Top of my list is the Flipsuit. These are “cards” that snap onto the back of the phone with a clear case to hold it in place, and they are programmed to connect to the Galaxy Z Flip5 via NFC, changing the screensaver on the Flex Window! There are also grips that attach to the back of the phone (with a special case), and can be used to hold the phone more securely and as a stand. Check out our video below to see how all these work.
Above: The flipsuit comes in many, many designs.
If it’s a good time to upgrade your phone and you’ve been eyeing a foldable, we recommend you get on the pre-order list now, because there are tons of freebies available. Full specs of the phone below.

The beloved LANEIGE NEO Cushion — in a cute design that looks very much like a tech gadget — gets an upgrade, and is now even more lightweight than before, with coverage that boasts 50-hour colour retention. Introduced in 2020 by the k-beauty brand, the foundation proved so irresistible that it’s now one of LANEIGE’s bestselling items and a staple in their suite of complexion makeup products. That said, the brand is just as keen on adapting existing formulas to better cater to our busy lifestyles, hence this revolutionary revamp.
The NEO Cushion is perfect if you’re looking for long-lasting coverage, as well as a skin-nourishing formula that enhances the skin with skincare benefits. Available in two pastel colours, the NEO Cushion Glow (pink) and the NEO Cushion Matte (mint green), each made for a different makeup finish — the former gives us a soft, radiant complexion, while the latter contains oil control properties and is all for an even, semi-matte finish.
WHAT’S NEW
What’s different here is that both feature an upgraded base formula created with NEO’s seamless technology, which enables a more lightweight texture, while we still get stronger and more long-wearing coverage! The foundation’s formula consists of ultra-fine particles, blended to a minute 0.17μm size, for thin and evenly-blended coverage that conceals pores and fine lines better than ever. Additionally, we hear that the foundation is brilliant at retaining its original hue, true-on-skin for up to 50 hours.
As mentioned earlier, the NEO Cushion is also loaded with skincare benefits, 80% in fact, thanks to a NEO Skin Booster Complex. Its list of powerful actives include Panthenol for firm skin, Hasu Liquid for antioxidant protection, and Blue Hyaluronic Acid for a boost of hydration.
Another glow-up to the bestselling product is the NEO Dot, a bright coral circle attachment that sits nicely within the iconic rounded edge packaging; this holds the cushion puff neatly in place and prevents it from falling out or going missing, making the cushion even more convenient on-the-go!
Ahead, a closer look at the two types of cushion foundations available, and who they’re best suited for.
Recommended for: A shine-free complexion; those who want to cover pores and blemishes; for long-lasting coverage with minimal touch-ups.
Extra benefits: On top of the skincare benefits highlighted above, the NEO Cushion Matte provides oil-control properties to combat excess shine; there’s also enhanced SPF46 PA++ UV protection.
Recommended for: If you’re looking for a lit-from-within and dewy-skin glow that lasts for 24 hours.
Extra benefits: Its formula is infused with light-reflecting diamond powder for a natural glow; additional skincare ingredients include Vitamin C and Niacinamide, which reduce the appearance of dark spots, help with uneven skin, improve skin texture, which, when combined, is all for a brighter-looking complexion.
The LANEIGE NEO Cushion_Matte and NEO Cushion_Glow, $70 each. In 7 shades, available at LANEIGE stores and online at sg.laneige.com, as well as Lazada, Shopee and Sephora.
Pretty much every year we can expect new vacuum models from Dyson, and this year holds one of the most revolutionary from the brand — the Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine, Dyson’s first wet and dry floor cleaning product.
The Submarine has a microfibre wet roller head that picks up debris as well and spills and even tough stains. There’s a pressurised chamber that releases 18ml of water every minute to wash floors evenly with no water excess. And like all Dyson vacuums, we can expect effortless manoeuvring below furniture and at the corners of rooms.
Above: The new microfiber wet roller head that can suck up both liquids and debris.
This machine is really easy to use. Just charge the head, click in the attachment you want to use, and then turn it on. For vacuuming liquids, the contaminated water from the wet roller is deposited into a separate waste-water tray, which is easily emptied and cleaned. And one 300ml clean tank of water can cover a floor area of up to 110m² (the size of an average 5-room HDB).
In the box, besides the new wet roller head, there are multiple cleaning heads including the popular Hair Screw Tool (this picks up hair and wraps it around the brush bar so your machine doesn’t get tangled), a Crevice Tool for more precise vacuuming, and a Combination Tool that lets you choose to use it with or without the attached brush head.
Deep cleaning is also possible with the Acoustic Dust Sensing function, which shows on the LCD screen the size and number of particles; and the vacuum will automatically increase the suction power accordingly.
Above: Various attachment heads come with the new dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine, with each serving a different functional purpose.
This is one of the best inventions we’ve seen from Dyson and it’s a good investment for washing hard floors (it can replace your usual mop), and deep cleaning around the home.
The Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine is a premium cordless vacuum, available now on DYSON.COM.SG and at Dyson Demo stores, priced from $1,299.
Right smack in the middle of major smartphone launches from OPPO and Samsung, Nothing releases their Phone (2) — an upgraded model of the original Phone (1), with a faster processor, better front-facing camera, bigger battery, faster charging, and a refreshed exterior design that feels really good in the hand, and looks undeniably cool.
We unboxed the phone earlier this week and were impressed by the solid build of the device, and the industrial and futuristic aesthetics that are unique to the Nothing brand.
Above: unboxing the Nothing Phone (2).
The back of the phone stands out. It’s an improved design from Nothing Phone (1), and one of the most sustainable smartphones on the market. The phone is made from 100% recycled aluminium, tin and copper, 80% of plastic parts are made with recycled and bio-based materials, and over 90% of the steel used is from recycled steel. Nothing also claims that no waste from the assembling process ends up in landfills.
Above: The back of the nothing phone (2).
The phone has a 6.7″ flexible LTPO AMOLED display that, to be honest, looks like an iPhone from the front. But in the hand, it feels really different from any other phone; it’s noticeably lighter than other phones with a similar screen size (this weighs 201.2g), and the curved ergonomic back feels comfortable in the hand — it has some grip and isn’t too smooth and slippery.
Above: The front display of the nothing phone (2).
In the box, there’s a USB-C to C charging cable with clear heads that match the transparent design of the phone, plus a SIM tray ejector that resembles a mini bulb. The design for every component is on brand and feels like a solid build.
Above: in the box.
Updates from the phone’s first generation include having an IP54 rating, so it’s now splash, water and dust resistant, and the front camera has been upgraded to a 32MP lens.
Above: the dual rear camera includes a 50mp main + 50MP ultra-wide lens.
Other features include unlocking the phone with face and fingerprint, having 5G capabilities, and one of the most desired features of the phone — embracing a basic, minimalist user interface.
Above: the software is simple yet functional, and unique to nothing phones — plus it’s fully customisable.
Above: the phone starting up.
Nothing’s uniqueness really comes about with the transparent back, where you can see LED strips, and even cooler — these are programmed to light up with notifications and ringtones. It’s the only phone in the market with this futuristic look, and it’s not just about being fancy and extra, these lights are functional too. Nothing calls it the Glyph Interface, and users can assign different light and sound sequences for different contacts and even notifications. So before you even pick up your phone, just by seeing the phone’s LEDs dance on the back, you know who’s calling.
Above: the customisable glyph interface.
Above: the leds light up on the back of the phone. Note — not all are lit in this picture. check out the PRODUCT PAGE to see more.
This phone is really for those who are ahead of the trends, for the first adopters and anyone who likes to challenge the norm. It has all the speed and functionality of a flagship smartphone, but without the bloated software and super high price point (although the Phone (2) has gone up in price from the Phone (1), but it has to considering the upgraded specs all-round).
Best of all, it’s a conversation starter. Everyone will want to see and hold your phone and play with the Glyph Interface. And you’ll be proud to show it off too.
The Nothing Phone (2) is priced from $999 and available for pre-order now at sg.nothing.tech.
Singaporeans love Japanese food, and that includes teppanyaki; food cooked on a metal plate in front of us. Sure, we’ll come out smelling like the kitchen, but for all its deliciousness, it’s worth it. Kou Teppan located at the basement of Great World City opens this Monday 24 July, and is helmed by Executive Chef Sawada Ko from Itoh Dining by Nobu.
Above: Executive Chef Sawada Ko.
There are just two menus to choose from: an Omakase lunch (6 courses at $58) or dinner (8 courses at $88). These are surprising prices for an Omakase meal prepared with premium ingredients and by a renowned Japanese chef. There are a few options like adding the “Lobster and Japanese Oyster Served with a Housemade Red Pepper Sauce” for an additional $40, or include a wine and sake pairing at $48, or a three sake sampler at an affordable $15; but if you don’t do any of these upgrades, the Omakase is really a good deal meal.
The highlight of the meal has to be the A5 Wagyu beef. It’s around 80g per person, which was almost too much for me considering the many other courses of the Omakase meal. It was beautifully complemented with sides that include sea salt, garlic chips, fresh onion and a housemade wasabi sauce. For this dish, the chef knew to keep the flavours simple and let the quality of the meat speak for itself. Considering the price of dinner (at $88), you’ll get good value for good teppanyaki, and you’ll likely be telling your friends about this new discovery where you’ll go back together with them for more.

Kou Teppan is located at Great World B1-134, 1 Kim Seng Promenade. Call 62351634 for reservations.
It seems like Hanni from NewJeans isn’t quite super shy after all — not when it comes to flaunting this Gucci bag at least. The Horsebit 1955 is certainly an icon of the house, and takes centrestage in a campaign starring the k-pop idol and Global Brand Ambassador Hanni, alongside American actresses Julia Garner and Halle Bailey.
The former is known for her roles in Netflix series Ozark and Inventing Anna, while you might have recently seen Halle Bailey on the big screen as she played Ariel in the live-action Disney film The Little Mermaid. All three women are, obviously, recognised by Gucci for their exceptional talent in their respective fields.
In the series of new campaign images shot by Mert & Marcus, they stand out against vibrantly-coloured backdrops, where each protagonist makes the equestrian-coded Horsebit 1955 her own, dressed in contemporary styles that modernise the archival design.
Fans of the rectangular top-flap shoulder bag will know that the double ring and bar hardware is a variation of the one first introduced on a pair of now-signature Gucci loafers 70 years ago, though it has gone on to become a signature house emblem. Today, we see it across various styles of the Horsebit 1955 bag, in a range of sizes, colours and materials, including leather, precious leather, and GG canvas and more.
More images from the earlier campaign, and some photographs of them carrying the Gucci Horsebit 1955 on the street, here —
Brompton has finally done it; they’ve hand-built one million folding bicycles, and this special serial number is touring the world. This millionth bike is not just your regular Brompton, but it’s designed after the brand’s original model, the “Mark One”, which has a red frame, silver parts and a Brooks C17 saddle that pays homage to the style used back in 1975 (when the first Brompton was made). If you hurry, you can see it in person from 19 to 23 July at Funan Mall’s Atrium, after which it’ll continue on its world tour with Tokyo as its next destination.
Above: The special one millionth brompton bike that’s doing its world tour.
As part of Brompton’s One Millionth event, Brompton Singapore will be retailing a limited edition “Archive Edition” bike, also inspired by the Mark One’s design, and in three historical colours: Baby Pink, Arctic Blue and Apple Green. There is a fourth colourway in a two-tone Apple Green with Arctic Blue that’s exclusive to APAC. These four Archive Edition bikes are crafted with a steel frame, three hub gears, dynamo lights powered by the rider’s movement, and a silver rear rack for carrying cargo.
Above: Brompton Archive Edition in Baby Pink, Arctic Blue, Apple Green and the two-tone Apple Green with Arctic Blue that’s exclusive to APAC.
Brompton bikes are really fun to ride. I’ve been zipping around in my Matcha Green C-line and I can’t imagine life without it. Bromptons are unabashedly city bikes; they are light, compact, and can fold to fit into the boot of a car or carry onto a plane. In Singapore, cycling paths aren’t that common, but bicycles are a convenient mode of transportation and gaining in popularity — especially with the generations that value a simpler way of life and going green. And it’s with this community in mind that Brompton has grand plans for our city.
I spoke with Mark Smedley, Brompton Asia Pacific’s Managing Director on the future and hopes of Brompton in Singapore.
Above: Mark Smedley, Asia-Pacific Managing Director at Brompton Bicycle.
Mark Smedley: “Singapore is a great market, a great country to be. When I first came here, it was actually on the back of the pandemic. I came out here in January 2021 the moment the travel corridors opened, and I was blown away by how many bicycles are out and about. I was thrilled to see how many cyclists there were.
What we need to do is to help the government produce more Park Connectors so it truly becomes connected across the island. We made contact with LTA on this and what we’d like to do is to find the voice of the government and use our position in Brompton to help build the profile of cycling. So it’s early days for us. But yes, it’s one of the things that we need to be doing all day as a brand around the world. It’s using that position of strength for that voice.
So Brompton’s not an aggressive sales company; it’s about getting everything right. If we can provide a delightful experience and look after our customers, that will determine how many bikes itself are our voice advocacy piece. We hope that we can get more people thinking about cycling as either a mode of transport, which I don’t see the same here as compared to the West. Partly because of the weather, and that’s partly why the electric bike is such a great tool because you can use it in this environment without getting yourself overheated while you’re cycling.
And the expansion plan in Singapore is about connecting with the community and really integrating ourselves within the community.”
Above: Brompton junction at funan.
In Singapore for Brompton’s One Millionth event, Peter Yuskauskas, the Head of Brompton’s Global Community shares with me the significance of the one millionth bike.
Above: Peter Yuskauskas, Head of global community brompton bicycle.
Peter Yuskauskas: “So it seems on the surface like we’re celebrating that we made our one millionth bike. But actually, the one millionth Brompton is a representation of one million people who have started this journey on Brompton, and it’s not just about getting on a bike to ride from place to place, because people don’t always just ride a bike to ride a bike. They actually really want to live a more interesting life.
And so the one millionth Brompton is this sort of collection of stories and that’s why it’s so important that it’s travelling from city to city around the world, starting from our home in London, travelling all the way to Asia, then eventually back around North America, and back home to London; gathering the energy and all the stories of these Brompton arms.
Because what’s more exciting to say, I went for a bike ride today and I did 35 kilometres at 40 kilometres an hour and here’s my stats. For some people, this is good, and many people in the bike world think that way, right? That biking is all about performance and exercise. But we believe that biking should give you access to a more interesting lifestyle. Your bike should be a connector between you and many different other things. And what’s incredible about Brompton owners is that they’re so interesting. They all had to make this decision to buy a bike that looks a little funny; it costs a little bit more. But what it actually allows them to do is all of these interesting special things like put it in the back of their car and go out to the countryside and go camping, or take it on a plane and travel to a different city and meet a whole bunch of people for like a personal introduction to a new city.
So, again, the one millionth Brompton is about all of the stories of the last one million Brompton owners, and this sort of hope and expectation of all of the joy and freedom that we can create for one million owners going forward.”
To discover more about BROMPTON and to get your own, visit Brompton Junction Store at 107 North Bridge Rd, #01-26 Funan.
Call it French-girl chic or Korean glass skin, these trendy terms may differ over the years but it’s safe to say that we love a good glowy makeup moment, the kind that looks utterly effortless.
Think: a clean and smooth-looking base that’s never oily-looking, yet lightweight and subtly luminous so it’s especially flattering when it catches the light. Your skin, but better. Here’s one way to achieve that fresh-faced glow-up — the CHANEL LES BEIGES collection.
Returning with reinvented versions of the LES BEIGES Healthy Glow Gel Touch Foundation, the beauty line’s cushion foundation, and the unbelievably lightweight Water-Fresh Complexion Touch, the 2023 series continues the makeup line’s dedication towards a radiant complexion and a healthy glow makeup look, with two stunning options when it comes to acing one’s base.
Then, there are eyeshadow palettes, a glow cream, and new barely-there lipstick shades that give us soft natural eyes, as well as flushed cheeks and lips, meant to be harmoniously paired with one another. These will appeal to natural makeup girlies, or perhaps someone who’s aspiring for a French girl makeup routine that’s always chic yet never overdone.
If you’re wondering how these look on actual skin, or simply want to be inspired for your European Summer holiday, read on as we test out and review CHANEL’s latest innovations, particularly the two new base products.
LES BEIGES HEALTHY GLOW GEL TOUCH FOUNDATION
above look: les beiges healthy glow gel touch foundation; LES BEIGES EYESHADOW PALETTE HEALTHY GLOW NATURAL EYESHADOW PALETTE in WARM; OMBRE PREMIÈRE LAQUE in 22 RAYON; ROUGE COCO BAUME in 930 Sweet Treat.
This is the house’s most updated cushion foundation, enriched with jasmine extract and oil for a highly-moisturising and lightweight formula that glides on seamlessly for radiant skin. The addition of these skincare ingredients makes prolonged wear comfortable and non-drying, while the foundation also acts as a protective veil against pollution, UV rays, and oxidation.
CHANEL has also designed a new teardrop-shaped sponge applicator for precise application, perfect for touch-ups around the nose or eye area.
What makes it stand out though, is its finish. As you can see from our model here, the Healthy Glow Gel Touch Foundation gives beautiful, even skin via a formula that blends seamlessly with the skin; a photo-adaptive complex enhances glow, making sure that the complexion looks radiant in any lighting.
My experience with the cushion is just as similar — the formula is “juicy” from the first touch, and only a very light application is needed in order to achieve sheer but even coverage. There’s a cooling sensation when applied onto the skin, which is definitely a bonus with our searing weather, but I was most pleased about the way my skin looks. The cushion gave me a subtle glow that makes my complexion look perked-up and refreshed, even when I had just done my makeup on the Grab over, while I also received (unsolicited!) compliments on how healthy my skin looks the days I reached for CHANEL’s foundation.
LESBEIGES WATER-FRESH COMPLEXION TOUCH
above look: les beiges water-fresh complexion touch.
Think of this as CHANEL’s version of a skin tint, meant to be almost weightless, and yet has just enough coverage so that it looks like a more refreshed version of your skin. The LES BEIGES Water-Fresh Complexion Touch is an innovative microfluidic formula of pigments encapsulated in micro-droplets, which then blends right into the skin to seamlessly correct and even out the complexion. This “second-skin” formula is slightly more pigmented than before, so expect a touch more coverage, though everything else about its finish and lightweight texture remains the same.
For its use, we turn to our makeup artist Ginger Lynette for some advice on how best to use the product. She tells us that there are essentially two ways to apply it, depending on your skin type and the coverage you want. One, buff in a circular motion with either your fingers or the attached brush for a smooth, polished look; and two, for those with more textured skin, you can try blending it into the skin with light and constant pats, while taking advantage of the buildable coverage of the skin tint.
THE LES BEIGES 2023 SUMMER ESSENTIALS
The rest of the 2023 LES BEIGES collection sees CHANEL revisiting their iconic products, and now offering them in limited-edition travel sizes. This ‘Summer To-Go’ edition comprises of daily essentials — an eyeshadow palette, a rosy cream-gel, an iridescent body oil — that we’ll want to slip into our makeup pouch or handbag, ideal for for spur-of-the-moment getaways.
We’ll start with the Healthy Glow Cream. In a convenient travel size, this is a rosy peach cream-gel that’s the ideal accompaniment if you’re going for an ultra-natural makeup look, of a natural flush that looks like you’ve spent a relaxing weekend in the sun; apply it to the cheeks, nose, forehead, and décolleté using the fingers or a brush. For a more golden all-over glow, seek the Illuminating Oil that envelopes skin and leaves it with an iridescent shimmer.

For the eyes, the latest LES BEIGES Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette in Warm consists of five harmonious shades — beige, coral, and taupe hues — that can be layered or blended together. You can also choose to top the eyelids with the Ombre Première Lacque, a liquid formula in Rayon, a soft, luminous beige, and Quartz Rose, a radiant pastel pink.
The natural makeup look is then finished with either the luminous Rouge Coco Flash or the semi-matte Rouge Coco Baume, both with dreamy shade names such as Desination, a shiny, rosy beige, or Sweet Treat, a semi-matte brownish mauve.

Happy Oppenheimer Barbie week! The highly-anticipated film, Barbie™ The Movie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as our dreamboats Barbie and Ken respectively, premieres this Thursday, 20 July, and the excitement is through the Barbie Dreamhouse roof.
As they say, the devil works hard, but the Barbie marketing team works harder. If you’ve spent any time on social media at all in the last two weeks, you’d have been swept up by Margot Robbie’s pink carpet glam, which saw the Aussie movie star in fabulous outfits that bring to life the most iconic Mattel dolls across the decades.
Similarly, brands have announced official Barbie-themed collaborations with non-stop intensity as well, giving us everything from clothing to jewellery to nail polish and makeup so we can indulge in all things pink, sparkly, and whimsically life-in-plastic fantastic. Ahead, we’ve rounded up 9 of these limited edition collections that are available in Singapore, in case you’d like to rock some Barbiecore this season. C’mon, let’s go party already!
1. Barbie™ x Fossil
Watch out, Fossil’s got some stunning watches, and a bunch of impressive jewellery and leather goods as well, inspired by Barbie’s charming motifs and her iconic shade of pink. These capture the whimsical and nostalgic charm of the doll as well — most prominently in a unique Watch Ring that showcases a five-petal flower design reminiscent of Barbie’s floral prints.
Then, there’s the Raquel timepiece, a classic-looking watch that’s paired with icons such as a crystal flower charm, roller skates and a pink car, while the watch series is rounded off with the highly-customisable Carlie watch, which comes with an additional interchangeable strap and a chevron topring inspired by the black-and-white swimsuit worn by the first-ever Barbie.
For a touch more pink, look to the Liza camera bag and Penrose wallet crossbody, each made of soft, smooth-grain leather in bright pink, while pink crystal accents and other charms are seen across Fossil necklaces and rings, including a cute Barbie mother-of-pearl locket that can hold a picture of your beloved Ken.
Available at fossilsg.com and select Fossil retail stores, including ION Orchard and Marina Bay Sands.
2. Barbie™ x Crocs
Ah, crocs, the rubber shoes we love to hate — but are actually kinda lovin’ these days. That these quintessential blocky summer sandals are paired up with one of this Summer’s biggest blockbusters? Match made in Barbie heaven, especially when they come in brilliant shades of pink.
The Barbie™ Classic Clog is the pink moment we want on our feet, decked in pink with Barbie’s silhouette graphic on the midsole, and accompanied by 8 Barbie™ Jibbitz™ charms. Those looking for a little extra — both in height and style — can opt for the Barbie™ Crush Clog, a platform design with a black graphic pattern on the upper, a glitter backstrap, and Barbie-coded Jibbitz™ charms as embellishments.
Make Barbie pink an everyday affair with the bags from the Barbie™ x Kipling collection, of eight upbeat styles that feature a perfectly-matched pink in a shiny glaze finish atop Kipling’s signature crinkle nylon. Think glazed donut meets Barbiecore — that’s how you know they’re doing this right.
Some of the brand’s most popular styles are reimagined here, including the roomy Art tote and the Seoul backpack, though we’re just as in love with shoulder bag and crossbody styles such as the more minimalist Ayda and compact yet spacious Bina. There’s also the Yasemina waist-pack, a subtle throwback to 90s and 00s style.
Kipling takes the Barbie inspiration even further with a photorealistic doll keychain, of Barbie wearing a pink jacket and jeans, as well as a revamp of their famous monkey charms, now covered in Barbie-pink fur and donning a matching visor. Each of the bags see contrasting zips and trimmings in white to complement the sweet style, silicone Barbie logo tags, and playful linings of Barbie dolls and logos on the inside.
Available at official Kipling boutiques and the concierge shopping service on WhatsApp at 8928 0706, at selected department stores, and online on Lazada.
4. ALDO x Barbie™
This one’s for the girly girls. The 9-piece Barbie™ x ALDO limited-edition collection takes on heels and bags with a Y2K slant, which is why we’re looking at a no-holds-barred, maximalist series of glittery rhinestones, hearts and holographic finishes, and even the Barbie monogram bedazzled on a pair of see-through heels.
The Barbie™ Stessy Mailbu Pink heels, for instance, are the stilettos you’d want to strut about in, and see the Barbie “B” monogram on a translucent backdrop; it’s best accompanied by the Barbie Hangbag in light pink, a see-through shoulder bag with silver hardware. There’s also a pair of hot-pink strappy mules, and even platform sneakers, so we get to rock the fun and fearless fashion of the iconic toy no matter our personal styles.
One more thing of note — look out for the shoe boxes these come in, in pink with a clear window that definitely reminds us of what it’s like to pick, and bring home, our favourite Barbie from the toy store.
Available at ALDO stores.
5. Barbie™ x Superga
We talked about this earlier, but can you imagine a more fitting pair of kicks to walk around the Barbie Dreamhouse with? Superga has teamed up with Barbie™ The Movie for a summery capsule collection of two exclusive styles — these feature white-based 2750s with elements inspired by the Barbie universe. They are then distinguished with a side jacquard label with a pink Superga logo, a collaboration logo-printed insole, and collaboration-branded rubber back patches.
A pair of Superga 2750s arrives in a Barbie Movie Print design, where its white cotton canvas upper sees illustrations of Barbie-inspired symbols, including rollerblades, beach toys and palm trees, and the movie logo; this eye-catching upper is then balanced with a totally white sole and white laces.
For a more classic design, look to the Superga 2750 Barbie Movie Pins, which consists of a primarily white cotton canvas upper made different with hot pink eyelets and wonderfully contrasting pink outsoles. The kick here is that we can customise the laces with three Barbie-themed metal pins, consisting of the Barbie “B” logo, rollerblades, and a flamingo float.
Available at Superga retail stores and online at superga.com.sg.
6. Barbie™ x OPI
No head-to-toe Barbie look is complete without some stunning nail polish to go along with it, and OPI’s got just the finishing touch. These official-branded nail lacquers are the perfect high-intensity pizzazz for a glamorous look, whether in more “subtle” creamy shades of pink, blue and yellow, or bolder styles that incorporate shimmer and iridescent glitters.
The best part? The shades names, of course! “Hi Ken!” is a supportive yellow that’s as optimistic as Barbie’s partner, and is accompanied by the OG pink of “Hi Barbie!”, both creamy shades that glide on like a dream; then, there are “Welcome To Barbie Land” and “Yay Space!”, of shimmery pink and blue respectively, followed by the dimensional pink glitter in “Best Day Ever”, a nail colour we’d definitely wear to manifest positive vibes.
OPI Singapore is distributed by United Nails Supply, available on Shopee and Lazada.
7. Barbie™ x Typo
You know Barbie works hard for that bag, so you bet we’ll need some Barbie-themed stationery to go along with that industrious attitude, something that Typo excels in, especially when it comes to branded collaborations. This season’s Barbie products include notebooks, pen holders, and pencil cases, as well as lifestyle goodies such as rugs and desk lamps so we can truly transform any old space into the Barbie dreamhouse.
Some of our highlights include a pen holder in nostalgic pastel hues, a heart-shaped lighted mirror, and a vibrant pink and orange bath mat. Look out for sister brand’s Cotton On and their Barbie collection as well, which features flip-flops, t-shirts, hoodies, an 80s-inspired windbreaker and more.
8. NYX Professional Makeup ‘Barbie™ The Movie’ Collection
Oh yes, we’re deep in Y2K territory with this one. A pink clamshell phone mirror? Nifty credit card-sized eyeshadow palettes accompanied by mini Butter Gloss keychains? You can’t get more 2000s-coded than this. The super fun NYX x Barbie™ collection dreams up the full story of Barbie Land, all while letting us get dolled up in electrifying shades and, of course, the classic Barbie Pink Pantone 219C.
A mini cheek palette including two blushes and a highlighter so we can emulate the sun-kissed Mailbu look from the movie, while there are two new shades of the Jumbo Eye Pencil sticks, in vibrant pink and electric blue to represent Barbie and Ken respectively. The collection also boasts faux eyelashes with wisps of pink, two Smooth Whip Matte Lip Creams, and the fan-favourite Butter Gloss in an exclusive Barbie Land pink shade, all vegan and cruelty-free, as President Barbie would advocate.
For the ultimate collectors though, may we direct your gaze over to the full-fledged Barbie The Movie Collection Vault that features all the above items in packaging worthy of a movie star.
Anyone out there whose dream aesthetic is… Cowboy Barbie? Zara’s got you. They’ve got denim-on-denim fits for both Barbie and Ken, or ones in shiny leather with flared pants and white cowboy boots if you’d like to go all out. Realistically though, the Zara x Barbie™ collection presents some of the most contemporary apparel yet, without bordering on cheesy merch category.

Sure, there are a couple of unavoidable logo t-shirts, but for the most part, we’ll call this collection Barbie-inspired, thanks to pink gingham prints, hot pink dresses and jumpsuits, and summery silhouettes. Also impressive, a full-on leather tote bag where the curve of the Barbie “B” logo sits comfortably on your shoulder. The comprehensive collection goes on to include accessories as well, such as a pair of white resin sunglasses and rhinestone hoop earrings.
Most people visit Bali to getaway; to enjoy the clear beaches, nightlife and to take in the gorgeous sunsets. But sometimes, you just really want to escape to that one place that has everything; so you don’t have to tackle the famous Bali traffic jams or deal with hustling with other tourists. And that’s where we discovered Raffles Bali, an idyllic resort that sits on 23 hectares of lush tropical landscape, and located in the south coastal area of Jimbaran only 20 minutes drive from Bali’s International Airport.
There are only private villas here, each with their own personal pool, butler and buggy to get around. Best of all, every villa has an exceptional view of the ocean. The airport landing strip is within sight as well, and you could spend the day watching planes land (at various speeds and angles, I must say).
When you book a stay at Raffles Bali, a concierge will map out a recommended itinerary for you, which includes dining experiences, wellness programmes, and any other request you have during your stay there. These photos were taken on our stay at one of the beautiful Panoramic Pool Villas, which had incredible views of the setting sun.
Above: The journey starts with welcome drinks at writers bar, which is located at the very top of the resort, and opens till past midnight.
THE VILLA
A buggy will drive you from Writer’s Bar direct to your private villa. Buggy rides are fun, and you can chat with your butler along the way and let him know of any requests you have during your stay at Raffles Bali.
Above: Walkthrough of Raffles bali panoramic pool villa.
Above: Buggy in front of the villa, waiting to take us anywhere in the resort we want to go. Many guests have actually asked to drive the buggy themselves, but this is of course not allowed for safety reasons.
Above: Every villa has its own private pool and cabana. most guests choose to have breakfast out on the patio to enjoy the stunning view.

Above: View from the villa — it’s quite therapeutic watching planes constantly fly in to bali airport.
There are only 32 villas in this entire resort, which guarantees privacy and peace. It’s the ideal resort to rest and rejuvenate yourself, even if just for a short weekend getaway.

DINING DESTINATIONS
During a stay at Raffles Bali, you’ll definitely spend time dining at Rumari, which means, the house of the sun and the full moon. It’s helmed by Director of Culinary, Chef Gaetan Biesuz, and the restaurant is the one and only Krug Ambassade in Indonesia (and one of the selected few in the world).
Rumari Restaurant opens for breakfast and dinner, and serves what Chef G (as he likes to be known) calls, progressive South East Asian cuisine; and his commitment for ingredients must include 80% of them from Indonesia to support the local community, and a maximum of 20% imported from other countries. Here are some of the highlights we recommend from the Degustation Dinner.
One of the exclusive places to dine at Raffles Bali is the Purnama Honeymoon Bale. This open air gazebo sits on the rocks facing the ocean, and is a private dining experience for two. Dinner here starts just before sunset, so you can witness the gorgeous colours of the sky before it gets dark.
Above: One of the dining destinations, purnama honeymoon bale. This location has a special menu that’s only available when you book this spot for dinner.
Above: scenes from Raffles bali purnama honeymoon bale.
The menu is specially created just for this dining spot, and you can request for a bluetooth speaker to connect your smartphone to, so you can choose and play your own background music as you watch the waves get darker and darker. Here are highlights from the meal.
Besides being extremely exclusive (it’s just you and your partner, plus a dedicated server), the incredible view is unobstructed and all yours. The waters are clear, the sky has the occasional plane, and you’ll want to take pictures while there’s still light.

WELLNESS
There are various wellness activities at Raffles Bali, apart from the private pool in your villa, and these include the main swimming pool, fitness centre and tennis courts, but also the famed Raffles Spa.
The spa features private treatment suites with integrated showers and locker facilities, and a view of the lush greenery surrounding the resort.
Above: Stairs leading to one of THe private treatment suites at the sanctuary spa.
Above: the sanctuary spa is at the edge of the hill and includes private treatment suites for two.
There’s a full spa menu comprising facials, massages, masks, Chakra balancing, meditation and singing bowl therapy; and if you prefer, you could request for an in-villa treatment so you never have to leave your gorgeous room.
Above: the polite and dedicated sanctuary spa therapists.
For your first treatment, we recommend the 90-minute Raffles Bali Signature Massage; it’s customised to your level of firmness, and is made to promote circulation, relieve aches and decompress your nerves. It ends with a warm coconut oil scalp massage that focuses on your third eye (a mystical invisible eye that is located on the forehead, which provides perception beyond ordinary sight).
If you’re into nature and interested in garden herbs, Raffles Bali has its own farm where they grow many of the vegetables you’ll eat at the resort. You can request for a Botanical Tour during your stay (it’s complimentary), and your butler will schedule it for you with one of the resort’s botanical experts, who will take you through the various plants they have on site.
Above: the botanical tour will give you a good insight into local vegetation and what you’re eating at the resort.
Raffles Bali is also an ideal destination for weddings (there was an intimate one happening the days we were there), or even just to dine at or book the spa if you’re travelling to Bali but staying elsewhere. The quality of service is one of the best you can find on the island, and that’s no surprise as it carries the Raffles brand name that Singaporeans are well acquainted with.

The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, or NAFA as it’s more affectionately known, is a beloved arts institution that has trained plenty of our nation’s artists, creatives and bright young minds, while also contributing to the importance of art and design in our society.
This year, in line with its 85th anniversary celebrations, Singapore’s pioneer arts institution has announced a refreshed brand identity — complete with a new logo, new brand colours, and an updated manifesto that communicates their vision for the next generation of artists and creatives globally.
‘Courage to Create’ — NAFA’s New Brand Identity and Logo
‘Courage to Create’ is an inspiring mantra that encourages aspiring creatives, future talents, as well as NAFA students, staff and alumni, to embrace their unique pathways, and to be fearless and resolute in pursuing their passions. NAFA’s new logo has been crafted to be sleek, versatile, and bold in the modern era, with the creative stroke in the final letter “A” paralleling its adaptability for diverse art disciplines, while also reminiscent of a brushstroke, a dancer’s sustained movement, or even musical notation.
A 3.5 min-long brand manifesto video showcases NAFA’s multitude of arts talents, which then culminates in a colossal figure that rises up across various Southeast Asian cityscapes. The giant itself is a metaphor for the students’ immense potential, creating positive change and massive impact in their chosen paths. It’s this message of empowerment that NAFA aims to nurture their students with, in order to see them become the next generation of leaders and changemakers in their respective fields.
‘Courage to Create’ Artwork and A Video Series by NAFA Students
Guided by award-winning Senior Lecturer (Design & Media) Yix Quek, two NAFA students have interpreted ‘Courage to Create’ in creative illustrations which liven up spaces across NAFA’s three campuses. Experience these spaces here, on NAFA’s TikTok channel, or during NAFA’s Open House in January 2024.

Furthermore, we hear from the students what the concept of “Courage to Create” means to them.
In a series of videos uploaded to social media platform TikTok, student-and-host Judah (Theatre), went around the campus to conduct street interviews with his fellow peers from various disciplines, representing Design & Media, Music, and Fashion Studies.
Each of them had to complete an artistic challenge picked out from a Gachapon machine — we see Patricia, for instance, play her moving final recital piece on her violin; Chika showing us her graduate collection that’s all about the freedom of self-expression; while Marc shares about “being vulnerable” and “embracing the unknown in order to create something new and meaningful” through his work.
You can watch the videos on NAFA’s TikTok page here.
NAFA — A Founding Member of the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS)
In the same spirit of change, NAFA is now a founding member of the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS), which will welcome its first intake of students in 2024. As Singapore’s first arts university, it will offer degree-level programmes to artists, designers, educators, researchers, and more.
NAFA’s role in UAS taps on the pioneering institution’s decades of experience in arts education, as the school is poised to continue providing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, mentored by an experienced and dedicated community faculty to nurture the region’s next generation of talents. NAFA’s faculty will be further developed through inter-faculty exchanges of pedagogy and practice.

If Taylor Swift’s lyrics are anything to go by, we’re about to walk in the room and make the whole place shimmer — particularly with the bejewelled eyewear here. The Gentle Monster x D’heygere collaboration unites two very different brands in one creative vision; the Seoul-based eyewear brand has teamed up with French fashion accessory brand D’heygere for an original collection that redefines both jewellery and fashion eyewear.
We’ve got frames stacked with rings and earrings along their temples, reminiscent of precious jewellery boxes in the way they sparkle in the light. In fact, you can think of the eyewear frame itself as a piece of jewellery, an extension of the rings, earrings, necklaces and more we often use to accessorise our outfits. One of the three eyewear designs can even be customised, as it allows us to place diamond ear studs, safety pins, chains, flowers, or anything you fancy along the side of the frame.
Ahead, a look at all three designs in the collection.
The Tiara 02 is a stunning work of art that features signature piercings along the eyewear’s temples, and with some studs at the front of the frame as well. It could be the fact that the campaign images see the eyewear placed on silky fabric, but the glittering display does indeed evoke the splendour of a tiara, as intended.
Pierced 02 features an oval silhouette that will look different depending on the wearer — that’s because there are 12 holes on the temples that can be customised with different piercings or detachable accessories for you to exhibit your unique personal style.
The only pair of sunglasses in the collection, the Rings 01 sees 4 rings with multi-coloured gemstones on its square silhouette, with bold temples featuring the D’heygere logo that tapers off to slim tips.
Need a wardrobe update? How about diving right back into the 80s with Casio‘s release of the A120WEST-1A, a collaboration model inspired by the Netflix series, Stranger Things. If we’re talking influence, just remember that this is a show that made Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” top the music charts in the year 2022, so no doubt, we’re expecting the watch to do mighty well for itself too.
The new watch design is based on the A120 model, which itself is a watch that references the digital watches Casio released in the 1980s, an era that Stranger Things fan should be familiar with as the show is based then. References to the Upside Down, an eerie alternate dimension that’s key to the series, are made here as well.
[click on the images below to expand.]
Its square face happens to be a brilliant choice, offering just enough uniqueness and retro vibes, while also serving as a showcase for the watch’s Stranger Things elements. The front shows off colourful buttons that pop off a darker set background of a Demogorgon reaching out towards us; a neat feature also sees the show name appearing upside down when the LED light button is pressed.
Switch over to the back of the watch, and you’ll find the Mind Flayer’s tentacles stretching out across the metal case back, all the way to the watch’s translucent bands. The special packaging is also illustrated with images of the show’s cast of young characters.
The Casio Stranger Things Series, $139, will be available for purchase on shopee.sg/casiosg from 29 July. It will be available at casio.com and in stores from 12 Aug 2023.
What happens when Moschino’s in-charge of all things denim? The answer can be found in M05CH1N0 JEANS, a new line of women’s ready-to-wear and accessories that features unique and creative takes on jeans, from patchwork dresses and skirts that literally turn a pair of jeans on its head, to classic silhouettes inspired by the long-standing history of denim culture.
Available now in Singapore, the first collection we see here is from the Pre-Fall 2023 collection. The line itself is a reintroduction, and reinterpretation, of the 1986 MOSCHINO JEANS line established by House founder Franco Moschino, and aims for the tongue-in-cheek spirit of Moschino by presenting denim in all forms and functions.
You’ll notice denim in all its treatments — whether stone washed, sanforized (pre-shrunk), patchwork, frayed or with clean stitching —alongside complementary textiles such as chambray, cotton, jersey, velour and leather.
The denim maxi skirt and straight-cut jeans? They’ve got trendy options, sure, but let’s just say it’s way more than that. The variety of silhouettes here, and there are many, pay tribute to classic Moschino House designs, though with a denim twist; note the bustiers and figure-hugging dresses, for instance. We love how classic elements of denim jeans are layered or spliced together, whether it’s a suspenders-inspired crop top, flared denim skirt, or a long-sleeved button-up dress with lapels.
Amidst the more feminine silhouettes are more gender-neutral pieces and classics as well. We’re talking a pair of baggy cargo pants paired with a knit tank top, a workwear-inspired jumpsuit and even a classic denim jacket. Accessories include caps, a bucket hat, along with a denim bucket bag and round sling bag.
M05CH1N0 JEANS also sees the house’s heritage use of a trompe l’oeil visual effect on some of the garments, a graphic of jeans upon jeans or another spliced with classical and modern-digital elements in one canvas, in classic blue, as well as vibrant pops of blue and pink, thus reflecting the line’s designer approach. Each M05CH1N0 JEANS item features custom rivets and an arcuate stitching unique to the line.
