We're Glamping At These Fabulous Locations Around The World This Holiday

Remember scrolling through Tumblr looking up fantastical images of couples vacationing at exotic locations in rather widely unrealistic settings, i.e. on a mattress in a van by a cliff or in a tent suspended by the tilt of a frosty mountain? Well, thank the law of attraction because that staged lifestyle of luxury is now available to everyone.
Glamping, as it’s being termed in 2017, has been a popular trend adopted by teenage cliques and honeymooners worldwide, following the success of affordable travel options like boutique hotels and Airbnb. Basically “glamorous camping,” glamping is perfect for Instagram-obsessed individuals who want to appear earthy without actually setting up a tent or breaking a sweat.
Our jobs involve trolling the Internet and geeking out over pretty things, so we’ve naturally located the top glamping sites across the world we’re super excited to visit this holiday.
Treasure Bay, Indonesia

Much like Sentosa is to Singapore, Treasure Bay is to Indonesia a highly-glamorous resort city off the coast of Bintan island filled with family and water-oriented activities. What more, it’s just an hour’s travel away and costs SGD7 to enter. The region is completely tourist-oriented, which means you can be rest assured your every needs will be taken care of. Check out the multitude of zones from water theme parks that keep kids busy to patio bars which can help you get turnt while experiencing the coastal magnificence of the bay.

Stay at The Canopi, a glamping site located right next to Treasure Bay’s iconic Crystal Lagoon. A vast man-made beach paradise with pristine water, you’ll be able to get a baking tan before retreating into a spacious tent surrounded by the lush flora of Treasure Bay.
Khao Yai, Thailand
We always turn to Thailand when we need a quick getaway that’s affordable, which helps when we want to splurge. Unlike the conventional streets of Bangkok with street food and great shopping, Khao Yai — a 3-hour drive from Bangkok — looks and feels completely different. If you’re up for some hiking in the woods, stay at their Kampung-hut lookalikes which truly provide stayers with that rustic vibe of a true camping trip (but with air-conditioning and a fully-functional bathroom).

Much of Khao Yai’s environment looks like a replica of Italy, which is perfect for those into photography. Of course, that won’t negate your opportunity to taste Thailand’s wonderful cuisine and be imbued with their local culture. Plus, the weather.
Banyan Tree Al Wadi, Dubai

uae

Anyone who’s ever stayed at Banyan Tree Hotels knows it’s world-class. From personal pools to its natural-environment aesthetic, it wasn’t a huge leap for it to branch into the glamping arena. Al Wadi Desert is an exclusive desert resort (oxymoron much?) which exquisitely accommodates your needs to feel like Arabian royalty just one-hour away from the Dubai International Airport.
Cool off at the Al Khaimah beach before heading into a falconry centre to get up close and personal with, you guessed it, falcons. Or ride camels and horses. Luxuriate in their spas, play golf and enjoy authentic cuisine before heading into your very own Bedouin-style tented villas designed using traditional Arabic architecture amped with sophisticated modernity.

Here's How You Can Achieve The Perfect Glowing Selfie On Instagram

Achieving glowing skin is no easy feat, but achieving glowing skin that’ll look flawless on camera? Almost impossible. Fortunately, @milkeu_tea who recently went viral for her radiant selfies on Instagram, just shared her totally inexpensive secret for taking the perfect glowy selfie – let’s check out her top tips!

Rip my eyeballs while trying to take this 😂 the things I do for good lighting 😪

A post shared by Milkeu Tea (@milkeu_tea) on

According to @milkeu_tea, the first step to taking a glowy selfie, is creating a dewy, light base with a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. She uses Garnier’s Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream ($15.90). Step 2 is all about highlighter. You’ll need a cream or liquid formula for best results, much like @milkeu_tea‘s Maybelline’s Master Strobing Stick ($18.90). If you’re using a strobing stick, the team recommends warming the product up with your fingertips before tapping it onto the highest points of your face. Doing so will help the highlighter melt into your skin more seamlessly as opposed to swiping it on directly from the stick – creating that natural, glowy finish.
1

Now, the final most important step to pop that highlight is to find a sunny location to shoot your selfie. The more sunlight the better. “This honestly makes the biggest difference,” @milkeu_tea wrote. She even showed the difference between indoor lighting and direct sunlight in her post, and damn, it does make a difference. After taking your selfie, @milkeu_tea suggests upping the warmth level of the picture before posting it on the gram. This “makes you look so fucking sun kissed and glowy,” she explained.
Check out the full rundown on how to take the perfect glowy selfie below. Now that you’re equipped with some top tips, may your next Instagram selfie glow for the gods.

A couple of people have been asking for it so here we are 😂

You Only Have Three Weeks To Try Open Farm Community’s “Kampong French” Restaurant Takeover

Heads up, all you alfresco-dining lovers: there’s currently a restaurant takeover at local café and restaurant Open Farm Community! For three weeks only, you can try award-winning culinary collective Paris Popup’s French creations. Called “Kampong French”, the restaurant takeover features a selection of sharing plates that have a fusion of French and local flavours.

Food @LaTableRonde 2_preview
Beautifully plated with greens and sashimi placed delicately.

Really, it’s an international chef cooking kampong-style flavours. Chef Harry Cummin,  Sommelier Laura Vidal, and Julia Mitton have set up over 30 temporary restaurants in recent years, and will now bring their 35th pop-up to Open Farm Community. We’re not entirely sure how the food will taste, but the menu looks like it’s worth a try – especially since Chef Harry’s culinary pedigree has brought him from El Celler de Can Roca in Spain to Frenchie in Paris.

You can try the plate with the Shrimp Chawanmushi, Edible Garden City Sorrel, and Young Coconut ($16) or for the more adventurous – the 6 Piece Froggets with Fish Sauce Caramel ($18). Otherwise, you can also try their version of an omakase meal, where the chef will bring out six savoury dishes and two desserts to share ($65 per person). You can also have a selection of natural wines, carefully chosen by sommelier Laura Vidal ($50 per person). All plates are entrée-sized and are meant for sharing, so no hogging all six coveted Frogget pieces to yourself, okay? You’re completely missing the point of Open Farm Community if you do.

What culinary collective Paris Popup is capable of.

We like Open Farm Community for its farm-to-table approach, a concept that hasn’t quite caught on yet in Singapore. It’s not simply a restaurant with a garden (although it’s a lusciously green garden), but it’s also a place that brings us locally sourced dishes. They’re trying to teach us that growing food together in an urban space brings a sense of communities, and we’re certainly lapping it up because why wouldn’t we want to feel-good about our food when it tastes good?

“Kampong French” comes as an all-day dining menu with 12 sharing plates and 2 desserts. Prices range from $14 to $28 for the sharing plates, and desserts from $11 to $12. It will take place from Monday, 13 Nov to Sunday, 3 Dec, and is available for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Open Farm Community is located at 130E Minden Road, Singapore 248819. Opening Hours: Monday to Friday, 12pm to 3pm, 6pm to 11pm; Weekends and Public Holidays, 11am to 4pm, 6pm to 11pm. Tel: 6471 0306.

Enjoy 24 Hours of Glitter Lips with Kat Von D's Latest Lipstick Collection

Ready your wallets, beauty buffs — there’s a new splurge-worthy goodie coming up for grabs to our local Sephora stores in February 2018.

Glitter tears. Glitter undercuts. Glitter palettes. If there’s anything consistent about 2017, it’s clearly our undying love for glitter – that too in its many forms. And all throughout this long, fiery relationship with glittery makeup, we’ve never quite been able to nail wearing a glitter lip that doesn’t budge. But Kat Von D, it seems, has heard your pleas. She knows your struggle. And she’s now come out with a glitter liquid lipstick that will last for not just hours, but an entire day. You got that right.

For starters, this revolutionary liquid lipstick formula delivers insane impact and lasting results. Swipe on a shade of this liquid lipstick, and be pleasantly greeted with a light-as-air formula and a bewitching finish. Formulated with Gel Cushion Comfort (aka super shimmering crystals coated in a smooth gel), iridescent micro-pearls, and reflective mirror-crystals, each tube of Everlasting Glitter Veil offers a standout three layers of high-octane dimension. Oooo.

The line will come in a total of nine intergalactic colours packed with glitter: Wizard, a smokey charcoal; Reverb, a true blue; Satellite, a powerful teal; Televator, an extremely wearable purple; Razzle and Shockful, two fluorescent pinks with different undertones; Dazzle, a sparkly red; Rocker, a shocking orange; and Thunderstruck, a bright gold.

Best part? Most of these colours match up with a colour or two in Kat Von D’s original Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, so if you wanted to pair Thunderstruck with Lolita in order to make the latter extra sparkly (as seen below), you totally could!

Unleash The Force in Your Home with Grafunkt’s Star Wars-Themed Furniture

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was great furniture of every kind to behold. For most us living in reality though, making our homes look like something out of Tatooine or Naboo was nothing but a pipe dream – fanciful but not going to happen.
Well, that’s all going to change thanks to indie designer collective Grafunkt, which has just launched a special Star Wars-themed collection in collaboration with Disney.
The collection, which features a series of collectible sculptures, is meant to commemorate the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Dec 14. Each sculpture can be used as a stool/side table, while being modelled after iconic characters.

There’s the Sandcrawler, Millennium Falcon, TIE-Fighter, and AT-AT for fans to geek out over, with each character chosen for very specific design reasons.
For instance, the Millennium Falcon and TIE-Fighter are meant to represent the “duality of the Light and Dark side”, while the AT-AT and Sandcrawler were picked for their “strong visual and architectural aspects”.
“I am stoked to have the opportunity to collaborate with Disney on this collection as Star Wars is very much a part of me and my generation’s life with its imperative pop culture impact and influence,” said Nathan Yong, co-founder of Grafunkt.

“Being a classic film while its contemporaries fade into obscurity, Star Wars remains timeless, accompanying us from boyhood through adulthood.”
Scoring each piece isn’t going to come cheap though. Prices range from $5,400 to $8,400, although if you’re interested, the Star Wars x Grafunkt collection will be available from Dec 1 onwards at the Takashimaya Star Wars Pop-up store, Grafunkt store at Millenia Walk, and online at theartling.com.

These Unique Lofts Around The World Will Get You Off The Beaten Path

The holiday season is almost upon us: they’ve already started playing Christmas melodies in supermarkets, and we’re certainly not complaining. We’re becoming seasoned travellers these days and another trip to another major city just seems so passé. It’s not that we don’t love Paris, Rome, or Tokyo – it’s just that they’ve been explored to death. Here’s a guide for those who are looking for a stay that’s off the beaten track – something slightly more unconventional, but a whole lot more interesting. We’re not talking about your standard hotel chain, boutique hotel, or even AirBnb stay, but lofts from all over the world.
Sometimes, it’s not just about the destination, but also about the place you’ll be staying in and what you absolutely have to try. And that’s why our guide tells you what the must-trys and the must-stays of each destination. These three lofts are at the top of our travel stay wishlists – we haven’t been to these places yet, but we can assure you that we’re already looking at booking details.

Lisbon, Portugal

I strictly post throwbacks

A post shared by Lo (@laurenn.schumacher) on

Most people spend their holidays in Spain then venture off for day trips to her next-door neighbour, Portugal. Instead of leaving Lisbon as the place to explore when you have a bit of spare time, why not make it the main destination? It’s super picturesque due to its scenic location near the River Tagus. Also, as one of the oldest cities in the world, there’s an arts and culture scene that rivals Paris – you can look forward to visiting Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (National Museum of Ancient Art) or simply strolling through the boulevards to admire the vast array of architectural styles.

What to eat in Lisbon, Portugal

Besides the famous Portuguese tarts, you have to try their queijos – cheese made from sheep’s milk. The most famous is queijo da serra, which comes from the Estrela mountains, in the north-central part of Portugal. Theirs is made from sheep’s milk and also comes with thistle flower. If you don’t feel like leaving Lisbon, you can find it at Manteigaria Silva in the historic center.

This Chiado Loft has plenty of history – it’s in a building that’s almost 400 hundred years old but is decked out with all your modern needs and whims. The apartment accommodates four guests, with a double bed and two single beds. We love how the gently sloping ceiling is padded with large windows, which lets natural light stream in. Suitable if you’re travelling with a small group of friends, since it’s within walking distance to bars and lively streets like Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré.

The entire Gippsland, Victoria area is a haven for nature lovers – it has some of Australia’s most secluded national parks. You have the blues of the ocean and the greens of the Alpine National Park. Not as popular as nearby Phillip Island or Wilson’s Promontory, but Cape Liptrap in Gippsland, Victoria has its own fair share of seaside charm.

Set at the gateway to Wilson’s Prom, Trulli Pizzeria’s well-known in the local area for their thin base wood-fired pizzas. Reviewers online are blown away by their generous toppings and excellent service –not what you would expect from a small country town in rural Gippsland. Prices are reasonable too, with an Al Crudo (San Daniele Proscuitto, Fior Di Latte, Rocket, Grana Padano) starting at AUD17.50.

Liptrap Loft is such a unique place. It’s described as a “large shack built from recycled timber and tin”, but the owners have lovingly restored it for guests to enjoy a secluded stay from city life. Suitable for a nature-loving family with young children, since there’s a separate room with single beds.
It’s set on five acres of land, so just imagine grass as far as your peripheral vision can see. Well, occasionally there will be a few cows munching on the grass too. But this is no ordinary “farm-stay” location – there’s a Japanese bath house with a soak tub where you can throw open the doors. It’s almost as if you’re soaking in a tub in the middle of a field.
The owners, Fleur and Mike, also own a few other unique properties around Australia – you can visit their website Dufflebird to see more unique getaways.
From $245 per night, Liptrap Loft.

Sweden’s one of those countries that seem so very far away from us, but so worth the 12 hours and 28 minutes in a plane. Even better, Singapore Airlines has added a new route between Singapore and Stockholm just earlier this year, with a stopover at Moscow. Water’s all around Stockholm – it is built on 14 islands, after all – and this means that you can take a ferry around to leisurely sightsee the different areas and even go island-hopping. Word on the street says that you’ll find your latte-sipping and man-buns at Södermalm island, which is home to Stockholm’s vintage stores and fashion boutiques.

You might’ve stumbled across the word “fika”, maybe in a reference to a coffee break. But it’s not simply a mere coffee break – to the Swedes, fika is a way of life. From the book Fika: The Art of the Swedish Coffee Break, the authors Anna Brones and Johanna Kindvall define it as:
Functioning as both a verb and a noun, the concept of fika is simple. It is the moment you take a break, often with a cup of coffee, but alternatively with tea, and find a baked good to pair with it. You can do it alone, you can it with friends. You can do it at home, in a park or at work. But the essential thing is that you do it, that you make time to take a break: that’s what fika is all about.
Unlike our fast-paced coffee culture here, where we grab a takeaway Starbucks cup or kopi-o, a fika break lets you make time for the break you deserve. And what better place to try a Swedish coffee break than Sweden’s capital itself?

We Can't Decide If We Love Becca's Mint Green Or Smoky Quartz Highlighter More

It’s been a pretty colourful year for highlighters this year as everyone seems to be more daring when it comes to experimenting to get the perfect glow. With a series of blue, yellow, purple, and even a rainbow pastel palette, highlighters have come a long way. From warm, glowy complexions to frosty goddesses, you can always count on your trusty highlighter to take your look to the next level.
Becca Cosmetics has managed to amass a cult following for their highlighters, which packs a glittery punch that’ll blind everyone who even looks at you. Earlier this year, Becca released a gorgeous prismatic amethyst highlighter, which gives you an iridescent glow in a beautiful shade of lavender that screams of holographic. Just in time for the festive season, Becca dropped a Golden Mint Highlighter.
Screen Shot 2017-11-15 at 15.03.30

We are definitely #TeamGoldenMint this season!

What a shimmery surprise! And yes, you know you want it. Becca dropped the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Shimmering Surprise Golden Mint (US$38) after it got the most fan votes in a survey of what colour the beauty brand should release next. People tend to avoid green when it comes to makeup, as the colour becomes ‘muddy’ very easily. But this pastel mint green highlighter is something that we can totally envision on ourselves.

A frosty golden green to perk up your cheekbones

Like all the other Becca highlighters, you can expect this minty green colourway to be super pigmented, with a duo glow. The gold sheen becomes more obvious whenever you are moving, giving you a frostier sheen that reminds us of snow.

Smoky rose quartz for a rosy glow

Right on the other end of colour spectrum, Becca also has a rose quartz highlighter for those millennials. And it so happens that green and red are Christmas colours too! These highlighters are perfect for working some subtle festive colours into your makeup without caking on the reds and greens.

Stop Doing These Things On Instagram… We Have Tips

If we were to play a game of word association, “Instagram” would definitely be the first thing that comes to mind when we think of social media. It’s the first thing we do when we wake up in the morning and the last thing we do before snoozing off at night. Even though more than 500 million people use Instagram daily to check and update their feeds, it’s surprising how many people mishandle it — we’re not talking about trolls, we’re talking about crappy pictures.
We live in a day where Instagram isn’t just a way for us to document our lives, it’s also to impress our friends and potential employers. Some of the richest youth live on Instagram, charging an upward of $10,000 per post depending on how many followers they have. And while there’s an abundance of quality aesthetic available on Instagram, there’s also an equal (maybe more) amount of lousily curated material that make us cringe every time we see it.
Note: the Instagrams we’re featuring are of people who’re doing by these trends right — no shade!
1. Showing off your beach-bod
If you’ve ever worked out in your life (we’ve done it… once?) you’ll definitely relate to the irresistible urge to whip out your phone and snap a picture of your abs or butt. Kudos to you if you’re a fitness trainer or want to show off some major weight loss, but if you’re a regular person like us and your picture doesn’t reflect any definition or consequence of your hours at the gym, perhaps you should save yourself (and us) the trouble of having to imagine them ourselves.
p.s. being naturally skinny doesn’t mean you’re fit or healthy.

Instead of chasing some hyper-sexualised version of your body, try exercising and dieting for the sake of being healthy. You’ll look much less narcissistic online and maybe actually achieve a better body that way.
2. Snobs aren’t cool, they’re snobbish
Ever wonder why some people have the audacity to comment “yaaasssss” on your pictures and act all into it without leaving a like? In social media terms, liking a photo is basically endorsing whatever’s going on in it, thereby pushing it into more mainstream attention. Because of the way this algorithm (and friendship) works, liking a photo really does benefit the reputation of someone’s Instagram account, and it’s common courtesy to like photos whenever possible. Liking photos also boosts your own social media profile, and before this gets too Black Mirror let’s just stick to saying it’s a good thing.
Don’t be stingy with your likes is what we’re saying.
3. Pretending to be an influencer
We live in the country of the buay paiseh, yet our Instagrams look like we’re always hanging out at the beach or sitting at the edge of tall buildings. What social media influencers post on their feeds of scrumptious brunches and never-ending vacations are either sponsored, meant to drive content for their websites or a blatant portrayal of their wealth.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bar51dCnm6m/?hl=en&taken-by=lanadelrey

Most won’t go out of their way to prove a point, so you shouldn’t either. It’s not enough to just be a spokesperson for ezbuy or Teatox, and much more relatable if you represented your true life instead of some idealised version of it. And it’s fine if you want to present yourself in the best light, but please don’t powder your images with filters.
4. When you post every time instead of sometimes
This goes out to all the sloppy users of Instagram. In case you didn’t know, setting your account to private doesn’t mean nobody sees what you’re putting out there (screenshot!). The structure of social media is such that we have control over what and how we’re sharing, so our advice is always to have two accounts — a main one that filters through the question, will my parents approve of what I’m posting?, and another that’s a private one where you use a nickname which doesn’t. And spare us rants unless they’re super salacious, don’t be complicit in contributing to useless information online.
5. A selfie a day keeps the followers away
We all have that friend who’s literally obsessed with themselves a day can’t go by without them taking at least a million selfies, all to find that one shot where they’re lips are puckered showing just the right gloss and their cheeks are tilted at just the right angle. We know you’re pretty, but maybe space out your selfie-streak with something less cringy, say the sunset outside your bedroom window?

Oh, and there’s more than the dog filter on Snapchat if you’re wondering.

KFC Launches the Red Hot Szechuan Chicken – its Spiciest Chicken Of All Time

It’s clear that KFC loves a good prank. Back in August, the fast food giant teased a “double steamed chicken burger” before re-launching the Double Down to the relief of all sane people. It was a good gag, and they tried to do the same a few days ago, posting a video of “KFC Milk” in a bid to get people’s reactions on social media.

Whether that ploy worked or not, KFC was going to unveil something big, and we’re pleased to announce that it’s finally here: spice addicts; rejoice, as KFC has just launched the Red Hot Szechuan Chicken – its spiciest chicken of all time, along with buttered corn and Meiji milk (yeah, they weren’t kidding about that).
MVIMG_20171113_153910

Here’s a closer look at KFC’s Szechuan Chicken

And boy, it is spicy as hell – we’re not kidding when we say that it’s of the sweat-inducing variety. Glazed with Szechuan marinade, the new chicken is coated in red-hot batter and seasoned with chilli sprinkle. Oh, and if that’s not hardcore enough, there’s also a new Flaming Hot Sauce – which is like the equivalent of drinking blended chilli, to dip your chicken in.
MVIMG_20171113_154639

Vanilla Custard Puff

But this devil of a chicken is not the only new arrival to look forward to. KFC is bringing back its popular Vanilla Custard Puffs (1/$1.90) while introducing the new Froyo Parfait ($3.50), a diabetic concoction of crushed Oreos, Froot Loops, mini marshmellows, and KFC’s natural flavour froyo.
Screen Shot 2017-11-15 at 12.07.42 PM

One last thing: the “KFC Milk” won’t actually be for sale in-stores, but you can get milk bottles with the “KFC Milk” packaging with every purchase of the Red Hot Szechuan Chicken at these five outlets from Nov 15 to 17: Changi Business Park, Harbourfront Centre, Plaza Singapura, Toa Payoh Hub, and Novena Square.
If you missed getting the bottles on those dates, head over to these outlets from Nov 18 to 19 to try your luck: Compass One, Jurong Point, Sun Plaza, Tampines Hub, Waterway Point, and Hougang Mall.

Let’s be honest: Keeping white sneakers perfectly white can kind of be a pain in the ass/gateway to embarrassing obsessive behaviour. So why not save the trouble and get a pair that already has that favourite-pair-of-beaters vibe built in? Enter Golden Goose Deluxe Brand’s (GGDB) trendy pre-distressed sneakers a.k.a Italy’s version of Converse.

Using the same quality leather you’d find in bench-made dress shoes for their trainers, GGDB designers carefully craft the kind of scuffs that’d take you years to make yourself, and later finish the sneakers in colour-popping combos no one else has thought of. The result? A luxury item perfectly beaten up with “age”.
Launched back in 2000, the brilliant idea came from two Italian designers, Francesca Rinaldo and Alessandro Gallo — who are admittedly fashion industry outsiders. Don’t feel bad if these names don’t seem too familiar to you — ever since the brand first started, they have relied on their products to convey the message of craftsmanship and authenticity, and a break from what Rinaldo and Gallo saw as the “standardised brands of the market.”  Thus, the lived-in, pre-loved look.

While most of us take pride in maintaining a fresh-from-the-box look for our most prized pairs, there’s something undeniably subversive to buying a distressed looking pair and wearing them with a large heap of DGAF attitude.
Celebrity sightings on stylish women like Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine and fashion cred collabs with in-the-know brand Off-White, have brought these from underground to their mainstream tipping point in recent months. And while the brand has expanded into some seriously luxe and casual clothing and above-the-ankle accessories in recent years, their signature sneakers keeps em grounded.
Retailing a range of sneakers, ready-to-wear and accessories from their AW17 collection, Golden Goose Deluxe Brand at Pedder on Scotts will be the brand’s first-ever South East Asia outpost and first Singapore pop-up.

Join The Sam Willows To Usher In Tiffany and Co.'s Christmas Tree Light Up At Takashimaya

If you follow the brightest star this Christmas, you’ll find yourself at Tiffany and Co.‘s (@TiffanyandCo) iconic 40-feet tall Christmas tree located at Takashimaya’s atrium right outside its flagship store.
The Tiffany and Co. Christmas tree has made habitual appearances there for many years now, acting as the go-to backdrop for many festive photos shared on social media and kept as treasured memories. If you’ve ever needed an excuse to stand by the tree and stare at its jewelled and Blue-Box ornaments for longer, you’ll want to know the full lineup for this year’s “A Tiffany Holiday” Christmas Tree light-up party, decidedly set to leave you wide-eyed and heart-warmed.
The Sam Willows (@TheSamWillows), arguably the hottest band in Singapore, will be headlining the party. The band is quickly wrapping up production for their second album, and are extremely excited to perform at “A Tiffany Holiday,” where they’ll be singing a medley of Christmas carols to usher the festive spirit, much in tandem with the light-up of the Tiffany and Co. Christmas tree. Trust us, but trust The Sam Willows more as they reveal how excited they are to be performing as part of “A Tiffany Holiday” this Thursday.

tsw1

What does Christmas mean to you?
J: Christmas is the season for giving. It’s also my favourite holiday of the year — log cakes, gifts, decorations and time with friends and family.
B: It means Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey emerging from their caves.
N: Erm, presents duh! And time with family! ❤️
S: My favourite time of the year! Also, my birthday. 😬
What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
S: The atmosphere.
J: Logcake.
B: Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey.
N: Presents duh! And time with my family. *Laughs.*
You’re performing this Thursday, on 16th November. Is it never too early to get into the Christmas spirit?
J: Yup, never too early. It’s around November when you start hearing Christmas songs being played all over and it gets me into the season.
B: It’s perfect. I think we all need to start the festive spirit a little earlier this year, thanks to all the nonsense that’s been happening around the world.
N: You can’t celebrate after the 25th, so if you don’t wanna miss out on life you’ve got to be ahead of the game!
S: It’s never too early for Christmas. Better to start early because on the 26th, all the Christmas songs very quickly becomes Chinese New Year songs.
What other interesting spaces have you performed at before?
J: A couple of years ago, we did a string of Christmas shows in Raffles City shopping centre. I think we prepared around twenty Christmas songs, and I remember we had tons of fun performing it.
B: When I was sixteen I went carolling in hospital wards with a bunch of friends. We were so nervous to point of breaking down, but it was amazing.
How’s it like performing Christmas songs as pop artists?
N: I’m tacky so I love it!
J: I think it’s the giving and seeing people sing along and enjoying the songs that makes it so special.
B: You get to go a little crazy with the arrangements. We might whip out a little Mean Girls’ Jingle Bell Rock.
S: It’s fun because we get to put our on spin to it.
What songs can your fans expect during the performance?
J: “All I want for Christmas is You.”
B: Nothing from Michael Bublé, sadly.
N: Tacky Christmas songs that you can pretend to hate but you secretly love and then you’re outwardly going to love it.
S: What Narelle said — and pure joy!
What’s the greatest Christmas gift you’ve ever received from a fan?
B: Someone made me a stocking once — it was decorated like a reindeer but for some reason looked more like a snake. It was also very long and somewhat resembled a pantyhose. I had fun with it.
N: Food! My fans know me well and always help me stock up on bedroom snacks that always come in handy for midnight munchies.
S: Snacks I actually love to eat. And pretty things I would actually choose for myself to use.
J: Chocolates. You can’t go wrong with chocolates.
Are there items from Tiffany and Co. that you’re eyeing for Christmas?
J: The T bracelet in 18-karat rose-gold. I think my significant other would love it.
S: Diamond hoop rings in 18-karat rose gold! Sooo gorgeous.
N: I’ve been eyeing the classic Tiffany heart pendant for a while!
B: The hourglass, in walnut brown and sterling silver. I would keep it or give it to the least punctual member of the band, who shall not be named. *Eyes Sandra.*
Why do you think Tiffany and Co. jewelry makes for such a great Christmas gift?
S: It’s current and classic — best of both worlds.
J: I mean, it’s Tiffany and Co. It’s legendary. You can’t go wrong with it.
N: It’s the thought that counts, but jewelry doesn’t hurt.
B: It’s timeless. And I’m a sucker for that robin egg blue.
What can your fans look out for in 2018?
TSW: We’re excited to be dropping our new album in the early part of 2018, alongside singles and music videos. It’s gonna be a really exciting year for us as we take these new songs to tour.

It’s never been a better time to check out Tiffany’s latest collections of jewelry, fragrance and homeware. From star-studded performances to its exquisite ambience in-store, Tiffany and Co. has definitely gone out of its way to make sure you make the perfect pick for gifts this Christmas.

Indulge In Dessert Porn At Fat Lulu's With A 10-Course Pig Out

We all know that one person who would skip out on all the entrees and main dishes at the buffet spread and head straight for the dessert table. This one is for you – the sweet tooth.
Fat Lulu’s has not been getting much attention in the dessert scene, but we are definitely leaning towards the sweet treats after having tried them for ourselves. Not only are their desserts absolutely delectable-looking (read: Insta-worthy!), they light up your tastebuds in ways unimaginable. And no, we’re not talking about popping candy that they use in some of their desserts. Chef Song, the resident pastry chef at Fat Lulu’s is constantly challenging himself by pairing unexpected ingredients that actually tastes good.
Joining the dessert menu is the ultimate indulgence – the Fat Lulu’s Dessert Pig Out. The set meal consists of 10 different desserts; some re-imagined classics from their existing menu and some new additions.

Berries And White Chocolate

If you grew up in Singapore, you’ll recognise a lot of the flavours from Childhood. The hazelnut popsicle reminded us of the coveted Nutella that we were allowed to have as a spread in our breakfast sandwiches if we were lucky, and its served with homemade chocolate cookies and raspberry granita – to remind us of berry flavoured drinks and cough syrup, we’re guessing. This dessert also comes topped with some candy that’ll give you a little surprise when you take your first bite – you’ve got to try it out find out what we’re talking about!

Mini Childhood – a mini version of Childhood, inspired by Chef Song’s childhood

Just in case you started thinking about all the calories you’ll be ingesting, be reassured that the desserts are bursting with antioxidants. Instead of ice creams, there are also sherbets and sorbets that help to reduce the calorie count. So go right ahead and indulge your sweet tooth, because you deserve it. The Lemongrass Jelly, this time inspired by Chef Song’s Asian heritage, takes on a more herbal and aromatic dessert. The refreshing jelly is the exact kind of escape we need from the heat, and the calamansi sorbet just melts right in our mouth.

Whether you prefer Asian flavours or Western flavours; there’ll be something for everyone! The Green Tea opera is the classic opera cake with a touch of Japanese flavour thrown in that took Chef Song many, many months of experimentation to perfect.

Usimarit (Tiramisu)

You won’t see beetroot on a dessert menu often, but here it is! Beetroot doesn’t even make most vegetable entrees because it isn’t a really popular vegetable to begin with. Most people don’t know this, but beets are actually quite sweet. It’s the earthiness that masks the sweetness and turns people off. Chef Song managed to come up with a sweet and savoury pairing that might just get you interested in beets again. The beetroot and blueberry sorbet brings out the natural sweetness in the beets, and is paired with a lemon cream cheese mousse to fully round out the flavour. Add in a little crunch with some crumble, and you’ve got something similar to a deconstructed cheesecake. This is the one dish that you die-die cannot miss!

A must-try new addition – Beetroot And Cheese

Screen Shot 2017-11-14 at 14.28.43

A delightful mix of berries and beetroot sorbet to mask the earthiness of the beet, with a little chocolate root still attached

It might seem like a lot – what with the chocolate and various flavours going around the table – but we tried all 10 dishes in one go and we can safely say you won’t feel like you’ve just eaten your way through 10 dishes when you’re done. None of the desserts are very heavy on the tastebuds as Chef Song incorporates delicate touches like sorbet and foam to cleanse your palette and prepare you for the next dish. Take the Mocha Choux for example – it’s topped with light chantilly chocolate cream that balances out the mocha cream inside puff. We could eat it all day without feeling jelat at all!

Screen Shot 2017-11-14 at 14.41.13

Sink your teeth into the Mocha Choux

Here’s one for those who like their alcohol. The Apple & Champagne gives an sharp, boozy kick with some champagne foam to pair with the apple sorbet, and is the perfect dessert to finish off your guilty indulgence on a light touch.

Screen Shot 2017-11-14 at 14.41.20

Each of the desserts are in full-size portions, although you would want to bring along a couple of friends to tackle this 10 course dessert menu. Designed as a shared course meal, up to 4 people are allowed to share one set of Fat Lulu’s Dessert Pig Out. No matter whether you are one or you have three friends with you, the portions will still be the same (it’s not buffet style).
If you have an additional person, all you have to do is top up an additional $15++ and you’ll be able to choose two more desserts from the ala-carte menu. Also debuting alongside the Pig Out menu is three new dishes. We’ve got our eyes on The Three Porn Stars – not because of the name, but because of our love of popsicles. These are the only porn stars that we’ll keep coming back for!
Screen Shot 2017-11-14 at 13.03.28

Three Porn Stars, $28 – featuring a playful trio of white chocolate, hazelnut and Ipoh white kopi popsicles

The popsicles are full-sized popsicles, and you’ll have to rotate them around the table, with everyone getting a bite of each flavour (not recommended if you don’t like sharing food). Our favourite was the Ipoh white kopi, which is quite strong in flavour. The hazelnut is slightly lighter although equally nutty, which all Nutella lovers will love. Between each popsicle, be sure to get a taste of the passionfruit & prosecco foam which was designed as a palette cleanser.

Screen Shot 2017-11-14 at 13.00.53

A closer look at one of the Three Porn Stars – milk chocolate, $28

The other two new desserts, the Melaka Boleh and Mango & Pony, are also worth a bite. If you are good with puns, you’ll be able to tell what the desserts are from the name. If not you can ask the waiters for a little laugh!

The Fat Lulu’s Dessert Pig Out, 65++, is now available at Fat Lulu’s. Up to 4 people are allowed to share one Fat Lulu’s Dessert Pig Out set. Reservations for this dessert-only menu starts from 8.30pm onwards on weekdays. It’s also available from 12noon – 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Fat Lulu’s is now open at 297 River Valley Rd, Singapore 238338.

Visit The Shrine Dedicated To Prada's Nylon Vela At Ion Today

The genius of Prada lies in its ability to consistently capture the attention the Milan fashion press every season with its kitschy aesthetic often explained as the meeting point between beauty and intellect, all to boost sales for its iconic black nylon totes and shoulder bags. The comfortable coexistence between creativity and commerce has been the lifeline for Prada since its inception in 1913, a formidable formula weathering time and tide.

This year, Prada launched the line of “trick robot” accessories which we reckon make the perfect bag charms of 2017. They resemble vintage motorised toys you’d find in a hipster art museum or collector’s basement. If “personality” is the overarching sentiment in fashion right now, these trick robots definitely spruce up the desirability of Prada’s lineup of vela bags. Following the success of another of Prada’s pop-up store focusing on their trick robots at TANGS just last month, we’re expecting to see brunch ladies and eccentric men spotting these glamorous trinkets very soon.

If you’re feeling inspired, head down to Prada’s pop-up store located at the heart of Ion Orchard anytime from today to 30 November 2017, where you can matchmake your favourite vela bag silhouettes to a trick robot of your fancy. If not for anything else, be enamoured by Prada’s signature interior black-and-white checkered floor carpeting, natural aluminium for its display units to complement the futuristic vision of the brand, and life-sized trick robots who will convince you to get their miniature counterparts.

Fred Perry & X-Mini Team Up to Launch Pocket-Friendly Speaker

The fashion and tech industries are like oil and water. Runways and gadgets just don’t mix. Well, in most cases anyway. When they do collide, you can expect the results to be nothing short of spectacular, which is what happened when Fred Perry announced its rather surprising partnership with local audio brand X-mini.

Fred Perry - FP x X-Mini-1

The companies have jointly launched what is possibly this year’s sleekest looking portable Bluetooth speaker – the KAI X1 Fred Perry Edition. Palm-sized, pocket-friendly, and glazed over with a gorgeous monochrome coating, this petite device has a full frequency audio range, as well as a pretty decent playback of six hours of battery life.
Fred Perry - FP x X-Mini-4

Its perforated top is embellished with Fred Perry’s trademark Laurel Wreath – a logo that has symbolised many a subculture in the past, like the Mods, Suedeheads, Punks, and Rudeboys; while attached to the speaker is a short cord, which will come in handy for slipping around your wrist.
Fred Perry - FP x X-Mini-3

The speaker is not going to come cheap though. The only way to score the KAI X1 Fred Perry Edition is to spend a minimum of $400 in a single receipt at Fred Perry’s ION Orchard, Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, or Bugis Junction stores. If you don’t mind settling for the original speaker without the Fred Perry logo, however, you can get it for $68 via x-mini.com.

USS to Illuminate Christmas Once Again with New Shows, Displays, and Fireworks

You better watch out. You better not cry. Universal Studios Singapore (USS) will once again usher in Christmas with yet another extravagant display from Dec 1 to Jan 1 2018 at “A Universal Christmas”, with musical performances, multimedia light shows, fireworks, and a ginormous X’mas tree for visitors to look forward to.

A Universal Christmas - Key Visual 2

Last year’s event – which was a spectacular visual feast for the senses, actually set a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest light bulb display in an indoor venue, with a mind-boggling total of 824,961 light bulbs used. And you can pretty much expect more of the same this year.
Check out last year’s indoor light display:

New shows include a “World of Stars” at the New York Zone, with gorgeous special effects, projection mapping, and snowfall, while “Santa’s Snowy Sleigh Ride” and “Santa’s Christmas Tree House” will feature Santa Claus, as well as characters like Charlie Chaplin, Gru, and Despicable Me Minions hanging around a 15-metre tall tree.
A Universal Christmas - World of Stars

Mock-up one

There’ll also be the touching narrative of how Sesame Street’s Oscar transforms from a true Christmas grouch to the holiday’s number one fan, with appearances from Elmo, Cookie Monster in this lighthearted musical that’s sure to warm the heart and please the kids.

And the fun doesn’t stop there. Belt out classic Christmas tunes at Mel’s Rockin’ Christmas show, or put on those dancing shoes and groove along with Madagascar’s zoosters Alex and Gloria at King Julien’s Tropical Christmas Party.
A Universal Christmas - Under The Mistletoe starring Marilyn Monroe and Betty Boop

At the end of the day though, it’s all about the lights here. It’s not often you get to walk around in a lit-up, fantasy world that’s straight out of a fairytale – with theme park rides to boot. And judging from last year’s brilliant kaleidoscopic display, we think we’re in good hands.
A Universal Christmas is included with regular admission to USS. Singapore citizens can enjoy tickets at $72 (U.P. $76) with a complimentary $5 retail voucher. Guests entering the park after 5pm will enjoy discounted admission at $55 (adult), $50 (child), and $98 (1 adult and 1 child).

Get Your First Taste Of Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory's Famous Cheesecakes And Cookies

Another of Japan’s famous confectionary shops, the Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory, has made its way south to open its very first Singapore outlet at Raffles City. Even though it’s been open for about three days at the time of writing this article, it seems like they are following in the footsteps of the other Japanese bakeries by constantly selling out their sweet treats (according to their Facebook).

Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory’s Famous Cookies

The most popular item is of course the Milk Cheese Cookies. Since it can be hard to bring back cheesecakes, tourists often opt to bring these cookies home as a present instead. The most popular one will have to be the Salt & Camembert Cookies, a crisp cookie filled with rich Hokkaido Jersey milk, rare French Guérande Salt and Camembert Cheese for an addictive snack. You can get both sweet and savoury in one bite, so you don’t get sick of either taste easily. For those who prefer heavier cheese, the blue cheese is paired with honey in the Honey & Gorgonzola Cookies.

Here’s another one of the bestsellers – the Strawberry Milk Roll Cake. Japanese strawberries are renowned to be some of the best strawberries around because of their sweetness and juiciness. Filled with milk cream and strawberry cream made with loads of Amaou strawberries and a lick of strawberry jam, the light roll cake makes for a great teatime snack.

Or you might be a die-hard lover of milk and dairy, in which you can go for the Milk Cheesecake, a light and airy cheesecake. Unfortunately, the cake is only sold as a whole cake, but we don’t think you’ll be satisfied with just one slice!

Milk Cheesecake, $29.50 for a whole cake

With our hot and humid weather, cookies and cakes might not always be our top snack choice. Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory has also brought their refreshingly delicious ice creams here. Available in two flavours, you can choose to get the classic Hokkaido Jersey Milk soft ice cream, or the Cow Cow Cheese, which is a Gouda & cream cheese ice cream. We aren’t saying anything, but if you like LiHO’s cheese foam milk teas, we think that you’re probably going to love this one. There’s also the Cow Cow Twist, where you can get both flavours for those who want to try both flavours. All ice creams are served in a cup, or you can top up $1 to have it in a cheese-infused waffle cone.
