Nautica Does A Stretchy Take On An American Classic

Who doesn’t love a good pair of jeans? You know they’re worth it when you look great in them, even when the material’s soft with worn-in creases. With Nautica Denims, their jeans were redesigned for updated fits – they’re bringing us an American classic that has added stretch for extra comfort and movement.

Untitled design (54)

They come in these fits: Slim, Straight, Relaxed.

The denims come in a huge range of colours, all inspired by the sea – and we’re not just talking about the wash of denim. These jeans have thoughtful details embedded within their designs, from a pop of blue on the signature hardware to a hint of blue on the inside fly. Their iconic sail stitch printed pocketing’s still around, but now it also comes with blue in the overlock stitches. No surprise with the overload of indigo blues, since Nautica reflects their heritage in all their products.

Nautica jeans come in three fits: Slim, Straight, and Relaxed.

SLIM

Slim jeans are not skinny jeans. Skinny jeans are tighter around the hips, while a slim cut provides a neat silhouette that has a slightly tapered leg from the knee onwards. It’s cut lower than Straight and Relaxed so only wear this for casual weekends – you’ll definitely look stylish but in a casual way.

Slim Fit Stretch Jean in Medium Smoky Blue Wash, $119

Get these if you:

• Want a streamlined appearance that gives you a slimmer look, that also elongates your profile.
• Need a well-fitted look that is comfortable.
• Have slightly bulkier calves; since jeans in this cut will hug your thighs and knees, it’ll suit those with muscular legs since it loosens up around the calves and ankles.

STRAIGHT

While a pair of Straight Fit jeans will sit low on your waist, it isn’t quite as low as Slim jeans. This cut’s for you if you’re looking for a versatile pair that’ll bring you from casual Friday into the weekend. It’s cut straight throughout the leg and gives a neat appearance that will pair well with a tee or button-down shirt.

Straight Fit Stretch Jean in Deep Dark Wash, $119

Get these if you:

• Are on the heavier side and have bulkier legs – these jeans are cut to go straight through the leg and is made to lightly skim over areas you don’t want to emphasise.
• Want to dress smart casual, which works perfectly when you pair a pair of Straight Fit jeans in a dark wash with a fitting top.
• Need a look that’s both clean and simple.

RELAXED

The Relaxed Fit sits low on the waist with a relaxed straight leg – these are perfect for weekend use, to lounge at a café or your own couch. With a roomy seat and thigh, these jeans are comfortable with ample space for you to move around in.

Relaxed Fit in Light Blue Wash Denim Jeans, $119

Get these if you:

• Are looking for a pair that’s ultra comfortable – these have space for your thighs and will come straight down your calves.
• Tend to work out and have larger glutes and thighs compared to your waist and calves.
• Need a pair of casual jeans for your weekends.

Denim’s a wardrobe classic, and there’s no backing away from that fact. But remember, comfort always comes first. You want your jeans to stretch at all the right places, bend when you bend, and feel worn-in when they’re brand-new. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed pair for the weekend, or a sleeker straight-legged pair, Nautica Denim has jeans in every fit, colour, and wash for you. It’s the classic 5-pocket style but created for today.
You can find Nautica Denim for $119 a pair at Nautica Suntec City, #01-371; Nautica Vivo City, #01-87, and Nautica Marina Square, #02-208.

Interview: MØ Loves RuPaul's Drag Race And Her Celebrity Crush Is…

It’s been almost two years since the hit single “Lean On” bagged the title of being the most streamed song of all time, and while EDM has become a mainstay at clubs and festivals worldwide, the songwriter and vocalist MØ (pronounced Muh, but Moh is fine too) has been working on her own music, proving success beyond her banger collaboration with DJ Snake and Major Lazer.
Even if you may not recognise her face, you’ve definitely jived to at least one of her many dance songs, including “Cold Water” with Justin Bieber and “Beg For It” with Iggy Azalea. As MØ prepares for her debut performance at Zouk later this month, we get candid with the Danish musician to discuss her newly released EP, “When I Was Young,” and better understand the girl behind these killer collaborations.

“When I Was Young” talks about young love. How do you remain youthful amidst having to grow up?
That song looks back at my teen years when every emotion I felt was doubly impactful. The older I’ve gotten the more jaded I’ve become, but as a teenager everything felt so extreme — it’s nostalgic and glorious. I think you need to be playful and not too f*cking serious. I’ve always been a childish person, even now. *laughs*
Did you ever dream you’d be as popular as you are today?
As a kid, my big dream was always to do music and be a pop star. I always hoped and wished and worked very hard to be a musician professionally. But I never expected anything to happen because it’s such a hard industry to get recognised in. So when things started to happen, I was so grateful.
Is it weird dancing to your music at clubs?
I know I sound annoying now, but I’m just like yay, they’re playing my song! Of course it’s a little bit awkward, but in a positive way. I get really happy when they play my songs.
Has collaborating with artists like Justin Bieber, DJ Snake and Major Lazer changed the way you write?
Throughout the time I’ve been writing music, I’ve met people who’ve inspired me to do different things. My creative output is always evolving — it’s like a dance. You change a little and then you lose yourself and then you find yourself again. It’s just one long journey. Being in the “pop” world has definitely influenced me, but what’s important that I’m at the centre of my inspiration. I don’t follow others. If I’m successful, it’s because my work shows my unique personality.
Who’s a dream artist you’d want to collaborate with?
There’re so many… Yolandi from Die Antwoord!

coachella
MØ at Coachella festival 2015

It’s your first time performing in Singapore. How do you learn to connect with an audience in a foreign country?
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always found traveling and experiencing new cultures extremely exciting. Even though people come from different backgrounds, there’re still always so many similarities between them. I’m always confident that there’s going to be a lot of connection points with people even if they come from different backgrounds, which is amazing. To me, meeting a new person is like meeting a brother I’ve never met.
From what you know about Singapore, are you excited to perform here?
I was actually in Singapore for two days when I was eleven years old. When I was a child, my parents took my brother and I to New Zealand to stay at a friend’s house but stopped by Singapore first. I do remember a little of it actually. I’m so excited to visit because when I go to a new country I meet so many people and fans. I’ve heard that Singapore is very clean and has one of the craziest hotels in the world with a big swimming pool on the roof of three buildings.
Speed round: say the first thing that pops into your head. Who’s your celebrity crush?
Rihanna.
What’s the first thing you do when you get home every day?
Netflix. I’m super into Rupaul’s Drag Race. It’s so good. Right now I’m on season four.
Have you bought the new iPhone X?
No! I bought a new phone in April, so I’m lazy. But I know I should.
What’s one thing you’d like us to know before you perform for us at Zouk, November 26?
I would love to meet all my Singaporean fans in person and say hi to them. In Denmark now it’s so cold and grey — I can’t wait to experience the weather there.

Why Is Too Faced's 'Better Than Sex' Under Questioning?

We wondered about mascaras and their constant reliance on sex references previously, but now it seems that Too Faced’s cult-favourite Better Than Sex Mascara is facing some flak. The United State’s National Advertising Division, otherwise known as the NAD, has questioned Too Faced’s claims – and weirdly enough, it’s not about being better than sex.

Dip. Stroke. Repeat. #betterthansex #1sellingprestigemascara #toofaced

A post shared by Too Faced Cosmetics (@toofaced) on

Well, perhaps that’s a claim that’s too challenging to be tested…how are we meant to objectively prove that it’s better than sex? What the NAD’s concerned about is that the mascara claims to give lashes an almost 2,000 per cent boost. More specifically, it’ll give users “1,944 per cent more volume”.

Sex on sex on sex! Get free shipping on toofaced.com with #betterthansex purchase 🎉 #toofaced

A post shared by Too Faced Cosmetics (@toofaced) on

Too Faced has since gotten back to NAD, and it seems like they’re standing behind this cult-favourite mascara:

“Too Faced strongly stands behind its claims, and has appealed NAD’s decision in this case. The tests used to establish these claims were conducted using sound methodology at a highly-regarded independent laboratory, and the results support not only the 1,944% claim, but also the Before-and-After photographs at issue.”

It’s NAD’s job to monitor and review advertisements for truthfulness and accuracy, which is fair enough, but we don’t think consumers today pay too much heed to beauty advertisements anyway. They’ve always made claims (think the usual: organic, natural, chemical-free proven formula), but these days, they’re getting more and more outrageous.
We’re not entirely sure if Too Faced’s Better Than Sex gives “1,944 per cent more volume” but hey, you’ll be hard-pressed to find mascara that gives you lashes that voluminous anyway. On the other claim of it being better than sex? That’s entirely up to you.
You can find Better Than Sex for $35 at Sephora.

Victoria's Secret x Balmain is a Match Made in Heaven

We’re always enamoured by the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for a couple of reasons: the Angels, the music, and the incredibly spectacular costumes (they’re definitely not outfits) that get featured on the runway. This year especially, we’re super psyched about it — not just because it’s barely a week away — thanks to Oliver Rousteing, the creative director of luxury house Balmain with cheekbones and a jawline for the gods. The fashion designer has been working on a capsule collection for Victoria Secret in the past few months, and from what we’re seeing from his stint at Balmain, this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show can only be headed towards an aesthetic which screams bling and ferocity.

Rousteing has always been at the forefront of female empowerment, from his sartorial manifestations down to his tight friendships with It Girls of the industry. His signature structured blazers with gold embellishments at Balmain have been a cult favourite by the #BalmainArmy, and his collaboration with brands like H&M and L’Oréal have thwarted him into mainstream consciousness. And while Victoria’s Secret has never been perceived as a “fashion” fashion brand, their choice this year to team up with Rousteing is just a yes yes yes!
Rousteing has featured VS including Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Elsa Hosk, and Josephine Skriver on his own catwalk, reflecting the similarity between the two brands’ values. Above all else, his exclusive circle of girlfriends have us swooning with envy. Just look at the interaction between Rousteing and Adriana Lima, one of his VS Angels pals.

The #VSxBalmain capsule collection will be featured on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2017 on 28 November 2017, and you will be able to shop it on from 29 November 2017.

Fujifilm’s New Instax SP-3 Lets You Print Memories From Your Smartphone

It’s no secret that instant photography has undergone a renaissance of late, though it’s safe to say that Fujifilm has played a huge role in digitising that revolution. Earlier this year, the company launched the SQ10 – a hybrid instax/digital gadget that was the first camera to use Fuji’s square format film. And now, smartphone users can join in the fun too.
Meet the Instax SP-3.

instax_sp3(3)

This lean, mean printing machine is Fujifilm’s first square-format Instax printer, and is targeted at users that want to print smartphone images using the new Instax Square Film. That means Instagram-sized photos, all printed out in that stylistic square shape that we’ve all come to know and love since smartphones became the de facto camera of choice.
instax_sp3(5)

How it works is simple. First, you download Fujifilm’s Instax Share app (which is available on both iOS and Android). After which, all that’s needed is to hit the print button. Voila, your meticulously curated smartphone images – be they selfies, landscapes, food, family photos, or holiday pictures – will be printed out in a jiffy.
instax_sp3(1)

The print quality is good, and there’s also a certain sheen that’ll give your photos a nice, rustic effect. If you’d like to ramp things up a notch, the Instax Share app has a few customisation options, like a collage template that lets you join 9 photos together in a grid-like format, or as a “split-screen” style. There’s also the option to add coloured texts.

Furthermore, the Instax SP-3 is one good-looking gadget. Coming in shades of black and white, this portable printer is sleek as hell, with its jutted, diamond shaped edges giving it a very refined and classy look. It’s also easy to keep in a bag or purse, making it convenient for people who don’t want to go through the hassle of lugging around a proper camera.
For those of you folks interested in adding some printing fun in your life, the Fujifilm Instax SP-3 is retailing for $309 and will be available from November 17 onwards at authorised stores.

Instagram-Worthy Makeup Looks Inspired By Stranger Things

We were so excited about Stranger Things S2, that we completely understand if you binge-watched the entire season in one sitting. After all, we did too. We know Halloween’s over but it’s never too late to start to get inspired by Stranger Things makeup looks.
When we saw these Instagram-worthy makeup looks inspired by Stranger Things, will you judge us if we shrieked a little in excitement? With skilfully applied makeup, makeup artists all over Instagram have been creating custom-made looks for their eyes, lips, and even noses (bleeding like El’s, how else?).
Some of them are themed by colour while others use an outright demodog to show their love for the hit TV show. We don’t recommend carrying these looks for your muted everyday look – all are statement looks.

No doubt, this look – complete with bleeding nose, and all – would’ve been perfect for Halloween. What we really like about this is the contrast between the upper and bottom lip, to highlight the differences between our world and the Upside Down world.

Another look that would’ve been perfect for Halloween – from the hanging fairy lights with scrawled alphabet letters, to the recreated scene in the woods above the eyelid crease.

Sometimes you have a great idea and when you go to execute it you complete miss the mark. I shared the process for this #demodog lip art (face art?) the other day to celebrate the release of #strangerthings2 and you guys were really into it. Unfortunately by the time I finished I had run out of natural light and also somehow messed up the whole look and ended up with this low-res mess. Just posting it because I've been getting a lot of messages about it for a few days and didn't want to leave you hanging. Also because this is what happens when you try: sometimes you fail, and that's okay. Now I know what products to avoid and which ones I'll use next time, and how to photograph it. I'll repeat it tomorrow/as soon as I can (and idk, I'll probably delete this post and add the picture to the next one), just wanted to share my failure with you and turn some of the frustration into motivation 💪🏻 . Hope you all had a happy Halloween and a blessed Samhain 🖤 . #makeup #motd #strangerthings #demogorgon #horror #tv #netflix #lipart #halloween

A demodog covering almost half her face. It looks three-dimensional, but it’s really just the clever use of makeup.
For those of you who haven’t watched Stranger Things in its entirety yet, you can do so on Netflix.

Nifty Tips to Keep Your Wardrobe Organised

You’ve probably seen a billion YouTube tutorials and many one-page-one-point listicles on how to organise your wardrobe… But honestly speaking… how messy IS your wardrobe?
In the fast-paced city we live in, we’re simply TOO busy. Piles and piles of clothes are left on the bed because we are simply too tired to put them away or because our entire wardrobe got torn apart when we were trying to find the floral dress we bought last month.
Subsequently, we find ourselves mindlessly chucking clothes into our cupboard again — only to mess it all up every time we try to look for something. It’s a vicious cycle. There is no instant solution to a messy wardrobe, but it’s extremely worth having one that is well-kept. Having an organised wardrobe will not only make it easier to find clothing items, it also has a psychological impact on your state of mind (looking at clutter can make us more prone to anxiety!).
Here are a few nifty tricks to have an organised wardrobe:

hangers-metal-wood-clothes-80412
Switch out your hangers

In a typical Singaporean household, hangers come in all shapes, sizes and forms. The first easy step to making your wardrobe look orderly lies in the uniformity of your hangers. Swap your variety of hangers into hangers in a single colour or style. If you’re on a budget, get some cheap black plastic ones. You’d be surprised at the kind of uniformity swapping out your hangers can bring to a wardrobe with a variety of clothes in different colours and designs.

1-STKOQ-x-j7DyVuiItYEuIQ1-rw35tabV3-UErsKvJaOAoA
Get organised

It is crucial to develop a system that works for you. First, have an idea of how to sort your clothes according to clothing type. Make sure all of the same type goes under a single compartment in your wardrobe. This way, you know where to look when you are searching for something in particular.
Next, decide on your sub-categories — style and colour. You can look to your favourite clothing sites and study how they categorise their apparels. Be creative and think of different sub-categories to suit your preference! This takes a bit of trial-and-error to see what works for you, so take your time with this step. When you finally find yourself a system that works, remember how you organised it so that it stays that way. You can even stick little Post-It notes at the side of your wardrobe to remind yourself.

twitter-facebook-together-exchange-of-information-147413
Download an app

There are plenty of apps out there that help you keep a virtual catalog of your clothes. Essentially, the idea is the same: you snap a photo of all your clothes and the app will record it in their database so that you can coordinate your outfits without having to sift through your wardrobe and risk messing it up. ClosetSpace, Stylebook, and Polyvore are some of the more popular apps that have got great reviews.

pexels-photo-325876
Hang everything

Another way to keep the mess out of sight is to put the clothes where they should be — in the wardrobe. If you don’t have the time to out them away nicely, a temporary solution is to quickly sling your clothes onto a hanger and hide it in your rack. This way, your clothes won’t make a mess out of your room.
When you are using this temporary fix, be sure not to use your identical hangers. Instead, use the ones that you were supposed to put away. The mismatched hangers will be such an eyesore that you would want to put all your clothes where they’re supposed to be.

pexels-photo-581087
Declutter

A problem with hanging up so many pieces of clothing is that there just isn’t enough space. Store away the clothes that you don’t wear anymore somewhere else. You could even donate them or sell them at flea markets.

jeans-pants-blue-shop-52518
Start stacking

If you still think that your wardrobe is too full after you’ve de-cluttered, don’t worry. Another way is to stack your hangers vertically. If you’re willing to invest in some, you can get nifty tools like cascading hangers. If not, you can collect and use the tabs from canned drinks to put over your hangers to stack them vertically for them to cascade down like a beautiful waterfall. But they can be sharp and when I tried it, they weren’t compatible with my hangers. Instead, I choose to DIY with this other cost-effective method.
wardrobe organisation

You know the little twisty thingies that you used to give and get from birthday goodie bags as a kid? You can do this with them. I have personally been using them for a few years and they have yet to fail me.

scent-sticks-fragrance-aromatic-161599
Keep your clothes smelling fresh

Lastly, if you use oil diffusers at home, this is the tip for you. When you’re done with the branches, don’t throw them away. You can toss them into your wardrobe and they will leave your clothes smelling fresh!

Mr Porter Launches Mr P., Making Men Everywhere Feel Cool

If there’s one thing men can say for certain they’re lacking opportunities in, it’s the availability of shopping options on the Internet. Sure, it’s superficial — it’s clothes — but the crippling effects of poor fabrics used to make “minimalist” (a common excuse for uncreative) clothing can make a man feel unrepresented and incapable of expressing himself.
Mr Porter, the go-to luxury online shopping site tailored to menswear, is well-known for its exquisite curation of over 400 designer labels including Bottega Veneta, Common Projects and Thom Browne that have a track record of doing right by menswear. Now, they’ve released Mr P., a label under their website dedicated to the quintessential gentleman.

“We like to think we have an unparalleled view of the male wardrobe,” says managing director Toby Bateman. His assertion doesn’t come without reason. Mr Porter has become a household name for fashionable men worldwide seven years and running now. With the launch of Mr P., they will solidify themselves as being more cohesive than a traditional online marketplace, diversifying its content and serving more needs of its customers.

Fenty Beauty Launches First-Ever Liquid Lipstick

To all Fenty Beauty fans out there, stop what you’re doing because Rihanna’s just announced that she’ll be releasing a brand-new product! Even better, it’s the first-ever Fenty liquid lipstick and it comes in a vibrant super-saturated red. The Fenty Beauty Lip Paint in Stunna will be released 23 November, just in time for the holidays. We’re trying to keep our excitement levels low to keep up with Rihanna’s releases, since we barely had time to get over Fenty Beauty Version 1.0 and the Fenty Beauty Holiday Collection.

NOV. 23… get your lips ready 💋 #STUNNA LIP PAINT is coming!! @fentybeauty

A post shared by badgalriri (@badgalriri) on

Like every product in the Fenty Beauty Range, the Lip Paint promises to look good on every skin tone with its tagline: “One Red For All”. We believe Rihanna when she says this – the range had 40 shades of matte foundations that catered to women of all skin tones. Also, interesting fact: the darker shades sold out almost immediately.
Fenty Beauty only had one lip product, and while the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb was perfect with a sheer balm formula and pigmented shimmer, we wanted something more exciting than a demure nude. Stunna Lip Paint sounds like a matte liquid lipstick, but when Riri showed us what it looks like on lip, it looks more like a semi-glossy shade that’s pretty similar to M.A.C’s RiRi Woo shade.

#STUNNA LIP PAINT. NOV 23 @fentybeauty

Will there be an entire collection of Lip Paint, and will it just be this super-saturated crimson red? We’ll be happy either way.
Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint, available online from 23 November at Fentybeauty.com, 26 November (12pm) at Sephora.sg, and in-store at Sephora Singapore from 27 November.

Celine Dion Goes Full Ham During EDM Live Performance With Steve Aoki

If you’re the kind of person who gets some kind of sick joy watching women fight on TV (Real Housewives, anyone?), Celine Dion isn’t going to be your cup of tea. She’s always been the epitome of class throughout her formidable career in music, never known to throw shade at other powerhouse artists despite her “diva” status awarded to her by her millions of fans worldwide. And while we’re never not enamoured by her youthful spirit and multi-disciplinary talent, her performance at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas with EDM superstar Steve Aoki has left us inevitably shook.

What appears to be Aoki paying the ultimate tribute to Dion turns out to be a spectacle we’re not sure was 100% successful in retrospect. After Aoki introduces Dion onstage, Dion begins belting out (lip-syncing, but whatever) her cult classic “My Heart Will Go On” from the Titanic movie. The crowd goes wild, as they should, and the club-atmosphere of the theatre immediately turns into a nostalgic fan-fest. At some point Aoki takes a backseat to her performance, basking in glory of just being so close to her.
Then, as Dion closes off her part to the song, Aoki immediately jumps in with a bass that quickly rises into a catchy, all-out EDM track which Dion compliantly dances off to! We kind of love how silly Dion looks as she lies on her back on the DJ booth, jamming out to the euphoria from Aoki’s spinning.

In fact, Aoki’s relationship with Dion didn’t begin last night. The two actually first met two years ago after Aoki uploaded a remix track of “My Heart Will Go On” onto YouTube. It’s an incredibly unexpected match, but when you see the way they hit it off, it’s at though it was meant to be. Dion, who notices how humbled Aoki is by their interaction, starts improvising what she thinks his version of her songs would sound like. It’s cute and at the same time kind of genius. There’s really no telling how far two musical geniuses can go when they combine their talents into art.
Here’s the track that sparked the two’s friendship, titled “Titanic.” It’s probably not something that could be translated live, but we nonetheless appreciate how sporting Dion was putting up a show like that for our entertainment.

ETUDE HOUSE Is Bringing Us a Whole Lot More Cosmic Joy

You can’t deny the infinite appeal of our galaxy. We’re wrapped in a gravitationally bound system of stars, full of interstellar shimmers and mystifying dark matter, so it’s no wonder beauty brands have drawn elements from our cosmos to ring in this holiday season.

Be My Universe Teaser 3

We thought all we needed was a touch of holographic highlighter this Christmas, but there’s something way better than that. K-beauty fave ETUDE HOUSE is dropping an entire limited edition holiday collection named “Be My Universe”, which sees some of the brand’s most popular products as well as new additions dressed up in iridescent packaging, inspired by the Milky Way.

etude house palettes
ETUDE HOUSE Be My Universe Multi-Palette
(L-R): #01 Pinky Galaxy, #02 Golden Galaxy; $25.90 each

There’s plenty we want from the range, but we’ve got our eyes set on the Be My Universe Multi-Palette, which comes in two variations decked out in a number of galaxy-inspired hues. These sparkly shades boast a buttery texture that glides on smooth and adheres close to the skin, so they won’t budge throughout the day and lasts well into the night. With those adorable planet motifs on both covers though, we’re having trouble picking a palette.

etude house curl fix mascara
ETUDE HOUSE Be My Universe Lash Perm Curl-Fix Mascara
(L-R): Black, Brown; $24.90 each

The brand’s beloved Lash Perm Curl-Fix Mascara has gotten a Be My Universe upgrade too with fine glitter wrapped around the tube. Its waterproof and smudge-proof formula lasts for hours, while the dual-jelly brush coats each strand for defined, clump-free lashes to create a doe-eyed look.

Go ahead and apply this on your décolletage and shoulders too for an all-over glow.

The set comes with a full-sized bottle and a mini roll-on version that you can conveniently stow away in any purse.

If You Like Your Rice Bowls and Craft Beers

Yes, this is another newly opened food joint along Orchard Road, and yes, we’re already overladen with food choices in the town area. But as a space that dishes out tasty rice bowls and serves their very own craft beer, Grains & Hops is a new restaurant that’s worth looking out for.

Screen Shot 2017-11-09 at 3.53.34 PM

It’s not entirely off-the-beaten track (it is on Orchard Road, after all), but it is tucked behind Shaw Centre on the tenth floor of YOTEL Singapore – a new hotel that has ‘cabins’ inspired by first class travel. We took the elevator up to ‘TEN’, and were greeted by a bright, airy space. So far, so good. The restaurant’s covered with windows to let the light stream in, which could make for a light-hearted catch-up meal with your friends. How about the food? Glancing through the menu, it looks like the food is affordably priced, with starters ranging from $10 to $13 and mains from $14 to $23.
1
Coconut Curry Carrot Soup with Seasoned Rice Croutons ($12)

2
Marmite Chicken Pops ($12)

You can start your meal with a few entrees, especially if you’re there with a larger group. The Coconut Curry Carrot Soup with Seasoned Rice Croutons gives a mild spicy kick, and the rice croutons pairs well with the creaminess to add a crunch factor. Sadly, there were only two or three rice croutons, which wasn’t enough for the soup. Another alternative would be the Marmite Chicken Pops, which is sinfully deep-fried but very tasty. The chicken was crisp on the outside. While the marmite sauce was spot on with its flavour, it was a bit oily and didn’t quite coat the chicken as much as we would’ve liked. Thankfully, it went well with the Grains & Hops’ brew.
8
Angus Beef, Roasted Pork, Grilled Salmon (6 skewers for $55)

The star of the restaurant would undoubtedly be the Sharing Platter, where customers get to customise their own meals. In building their own Sharing Platter, customers can choose from different meats, grains, and dips. Once again, another reason to come with more people – so you can try more dishes. We tried the Angus Beef, Roasted Pork, and Grilled Salmon skewers.
5

To be honest, there’s really quite a lot going on. How would you know which dips you prefer when there are eight different dips, including Marmite, Sambal Mayo, and Garlic Parmesan? Or which grains to pick when there’s Purple Sticky Rice, Multigrain Rice, Basmati Rice, and Garlic Quinoa? For those who aren’t inclined to perfecting or overthinking their Sharing Platter, you could just go for Grains & Hops’ signature rice bowls.
10
Vegetarian Rice Bowl ($14)

After all, who could say no to a Roasted Angus Beef Bowl ($22) when it comes with tender roasted beef skewers, homemade spicy garlic sauce, and purple sticky rice? There’s also a vegetarian option for those who prefer vegetables, with grilled button mushrooms, zucchini, and semi-dried tomato polenta skewers. This bowl comes with basmati rice and a side of house salad.
7
Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispies ($11)

For the sweet tooth, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispies will be perfect. Correction: it’s a plate for many dessert-lovers – this dessert is sized very generously and although the taste was good, the portion was way out of control. As a slab of chocolate butterscotch on top of chunky peanut butter rice krispies, this dish could have used more than a small dollop of vanilla ice-cream. More ice-cream would help cut through the sickeningly sweet combination of chocolate and peanut butter.
6
Peach & Berries Rice Popsicle ($8)

As for the Peach & Berries Rice Popsicle, the chef explained that he was inspired by a traditional Italian risotto. He blended the peach, berries, and rice grains all together before freezing the dessert. The rice absorbed the sweet freshness of the peach and berries, but the texture of the popsicle did seem a bit icy.
11
(Pint for $13++, Half Pint for $7++)

Of course, if you’re not here for the food, you can always come for the drinks. Their own Grains & Hops’ brew is infused with jasmine green tea, as a nod to our local tastebuds. We can’t fault it – it’s refreshing and pairs well with the food.
With Grains & Hops’ ‘Let the good times roll’ promotion, customers can enjoy up to 60% off their beverage orders just by rolling a die. The promotion runs from 12pm to 8pm daily, excluding the eve of public holidays and public holidays. Terms and Conditions apply.
Grains & Hops Restaurant and Bar is located at YOTEL Singapore (366 Orchard Road). Opening Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 6.30am to 11pm; Friday to Saturday, 6.30am – 12 Midnight. Tel: 6866 8067.

Fiona Fussi Stars In Her Own Mini K-drama For Acuvue

Contact lens – they are our saviour and worst nightmare all rolled into one. We want the convenience of contact lens, but the dry eyes that come with wearing them aren’t always welcome.
When ACUVUE said that they were going to release a range of beauty lenses to accentuate the natural beauty in our eyes without sacrificing the moisture comfort to keep our eyes health, they became a mainstay in our beauty regime. We’re well acquainted with the entire range of ACUVUE®DEFINE® beauty lenses variants, which brings out different aspects in your eyes based on the design that you prefer.
The latest ACUVUE®DEFINE® beauty lens variation is called Radiant Sweet, which gives your eyes a natural glowy, tear-filled look. Like the other variants, the Radiant Sweet beauty lenses are only available as daily lens, which means it’s super convenient. You no longer have to worry about cleaning your lenses or about them drying up if you didn’t store them properly.
