What to Expect at this Year’s Halloween Horror Nights 7

There are monsters lurking everywhere. But while most of them hide in the shadows, that’s all going to change at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) at Universal Studios Singapore. No matter who you are, or where you come from, you’ll be in for a jolly good scare at the 7th edition of Singapore’s premier fright fest.
Check out our experience below:

500 scare actors, five haunted houses, two scare zones, two live shows, and a pulsating, live-action round of zombie laser tag – these are all the ingredients of a theme park that’s gone dark, where ghastly ghouls roam the night, and demented souls bay for blood.

In other words, HHN is going to be freaky as hell.
Case in point: this year’s theme revolves around seven new incarnations of sins found in modern day life – Cruelty, Deception, Malice, Manipulation, Narcissism, Perversion, and Obsession – with each “sin” taking on the lives of seven characters called Sinisters; deranged demons that you’ll find based in various parts of the park, like the haunted houses.

Speaking of haunted houses, they are incredibly spooky this year. Manic thumping on walls, scare actors popping out of nowhere, and gruesome special effects are just some of the hallmarks we’ve seen in previous editions, although the house that hit closest to home was Death Mall – where an eerie reproduction of a heartland mall, complete with a cinema and grocery store, was teeming with horrifying ghosts.

The freaky entrance to Death Mall

Other houses to look out for include Inside The Mind; where you’ll get sucked into the psychedelic bad trip of a serial killer’s brain, with mind-altering illusions and a spasm of garish colours, as well as Hex; a shaman’s lair filled with voodoo relics and antiques, and Terrorcotta; a house that transports you all the way back to ancient China’s bloody past.

Make The Cut – a haunted house that dives into the dark and gory underbelly of the K-pop business has splendid special effects, but is quite underwhelming in terms of thrill factor. So spending your time queuing for it may not be such a great idea, especially since the scare zones – Happy Horror Days in particular, are a joy to wander through.

Instead, you should check out HHN’s latest headline event – an adrenaline-pumping zombie laser tag experience that pits you against ravaging zombies that run after you (yes, they actually run, not like those sorry excuses you’ll find in The Walking Dead). We do foresee the queues being really long for this though, so do prepare for a really long wait.

Overall, HHN is still an impressively frightening affair. The costumes are great and so are the effects and makeup. It still doesn’t beat the local edition two years ago, where zombies took over an HDB flat, but it comes pretty close.
So if you’d like to scare yourself silly this year, Halloween Horror Nights is running from September 29 to October 29 for 14 nights across five weekends. Tickets start from $58 and are available via www.halloweenhorrornights.com.sg.

Vans’ Rose Pink Satin Slip On is Pure Embroidery Porn

Everything’s pretty in pink these days, especially when it comes to sneakers (check out our latest round up here). The world just can’t get enough of the colour, so it’s no real surprise that Vans – kingpins of the skatewear universe, has revolved its latest “California Souvenir” pack around, yes, you guessed it: street-worthy kicks that are a rose-tinted dream come true.

vans_pink1

These kicks come in the form of gorgeous pink satin slip-ons, complete with embroidery that’s intricately stitched on each shoe, with two tigers standing on top of rose petals, facing each other off. There’s also a badass black version that separates the tiger from the floral motifs, which makes for a nice contrast.
vans_black

All of this is juxtaposed by a lustrous satin paneling throughout both sets of shoes, with the pink version especially striking due to the silky sheen of the satin. But that’s not all. Vans has also given its classic Old Skool and Sk8-Hi delicate satin makeovers as well, subtly embedding golden details on each shoe’s heel.

To put the icing on the cake, Vans has also dropped three different sets of clothing styles, with a jacket, a crewneck, and a T-shirt paying tribute to the company’s suburban Californian heritage. At the end of the day though, the only things we want are those irresistible pink slip-ons, and we’re sure you guys feel the same way too.

There’s no word yet as to whether this collection will be made available locally in Singapore, although you can try your luck via Vans’ Canadian website from the first week of October onwards, or at the very least, get some third party to help feed your sneaker addiction.

NYLON Team Picks: Luxury Fashion Items From YOOX That Are Actually Affordable

You’ve seen the street style #OOTDs right? Now that we’re in the thick of Fashion Weeks — and just past the very exciting ones in New York, London and Milan — the fashion set’s at an all-time frenzy with their strutting in, out and around the major shows. It’s honestly hard not to feel the rush of energy swirling around this time of the year, and with luxury brands pulling out all the stops for their runway extravaganzas, even those of us who can barely touch a fashion week tent feel inspired to dress up too.
And dress well, you might, except… it’s quite ridiculous to own a wardrobe made up of branded items, isn’t it? Trust us, we all want to be the Margaret Zhangs and Yoyo Caos of the world, but we don’t exactly have the budget or star power for it, so what’s a girl to do? Here’s a tip: go for off-season items instead.

rilzkqtp.udn
yoox.com

Got your eyebrows raised already? Why is a fashion magazine telling you to buck the trends?? Well, it’s not really an affront to fashion, don’t worry — wearing off-season fashion pieces, that are still branded by the way, simply makes sense. And still looks good (just scroll back to the above image for proof).
Esteemed fashion designer, and creative director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld even says this in 2007 documentary Lagerfeld ConfidentialI only wear last season’s clothes… If you like fashion, you wear it.” So there, confirmation! In an age where our favourite fashion style stars are mixing high fashion brands along with streetwear, fast fashion, or lesser-known labels, we couldn’t agree more.
jadxnrtp.ofn xfhfnrwq.oew
yoox.com

So now that you’re on board, we’ve gotta let you in on another tip: YOOX. Those in-the-know (and now, you) love to trawl it for luxury fashion finds that are extremely worth it, since they’re an online retail site that carries plenty of clothes and accessories for both men and women. The brand, part of the YOOX NET-A-PORTER group, is known for carrying a wide array of items, so if you really love fashion, as Lagerfeld states, and if you’re confident enough to mix and match different seasons like many fashionistas do, you’ll find that plenty of styles work.
In many ways, shopping on YOOX is like a journey of discovery — for one, you’ll find plenty of designer labels including big names such as Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Fendi, Proenza Schouler, or find plenty of designs you like from lesser-known eclectic labels or new designers. There are many collaboration pieces on the established site too (101 Dalmatians x Cath Kidston for instance, and a few other Disney and Star Wars collabs), while the array of diffusion labels such as MM6, Love Moschino, and REDValentino give their curated picks a more youthful feel.
Plenty of stuff to look at, we’d say! Plus, fashion’s really about making it your own and integrating things into your personal style; treat your way through the site like hunting for hidden treasure. At least, that’s how it was for us. Of course, it’s way easier to get regular updates, just sign up here.
With that, we’ve gone ahead and got the NYLON team to style their look around some It-bags we’ve picked. Here goes:

Amelia Tan, Associate Editor
Key Bag: MM6 by Maison Margiela Handbag, US$94
amecollage
I’ll start with my pick; and let me just say I love diffusion labels. They’re an inexpensive way to buy into the spirit and style of a brand, and for that, MM6 totally embodies the cool-girl, effortless vibes of French design house Maison Margiela. This clutch is in an easy-to-wear silhouette, yet in an eye-catching shade of molten metallic rose gold that can liven up an outfit without loading up on colours or prints. You can choose to go incredibly classy, or over here, mix it up with other eclectic wardrobe pieces. I went for the more quirky pairing of a logo t-shirt with a lace skirt — yet one with a sporty stripe that wouldn’t look out of place with a casual bomber jacket. White heels are this season’s lust item — and yet, YOOX has plenty of options too — while the Miu Miu shades and watch are kept in the same rose gold colour family for some understated class.
1. Faith Connexion Bomber Jacket, US$442 ; Love Moschino T-Shirt, US$64 ; 3. Miu Miu Sunglasses, US$324 ; 4. George J. Love Skirt, US$97 ; 5. Nixon Time Teller, US$137 ; 6. MM6 by Maison Margiela Handbag, US$94 ; 7. Cross Walk Ankle Boots, US$202

Nurasyiqin Sedik, Media Executive
Key Bag: Oui, Odile! Transparent Box Clutch, US$142
syiqincollage
As you can tell, our media executive Syiqin loves her colours, and her daily wardrobe consistently consists of cute polka-dotted pieces, or prints, or bright, punchy colours that show off her playful sense of fashion. She says that it was the yellow blazer that first caught her eye when she visited the site, and while the Oui, Odile!’s box clutch can be worn for a formal evening look, it’s also refreshing to see it with this quirky t-shirt too, and forgiving white trousers to soften the look. Throw in some oversized lip earrings, and go off to paint the town red… and whatever other colours you like actually.
1. Stella McCartney Blazer, US$680 ; 2. Jolie by Edward Spiers Trousers, US$83 ; 3. Love Moschino T-Shirt, US$104 ; 4. Casio Retro Vintage Wrist Watch, US$62 ; 5. Oui, Odile! Transparent Box Clutch, US$142 ; 6. Leo Studio Design Mules, US$249 ; 7. George J. Love Earrings, US$30

Michelle Ng, Writer
Key Bag: Just Cavalli Handbag
michellecollage
Our new writer Michelle loves looks that go from day-to-night, and we see these picks totally representative of that kind of versatile wardrobe — the Just Cavalli bag, in white, gives off a casual daytime vibe, especially when paired with an oversized denim jacket that you can bring to the office. That play on silhouette though is important, and is what gives the look a more edgy appeal; denim, while casual, can easily pass off as model-off-duty too, while a sleek pair of boots can immediately make an outfit more badass, an attitude you might like to flaunt after hours. Mix it up with more bohemian-inspired jewellery, some whimsical earrings and a choker-style tassel necklace, and you’re ready to rock.
1. Chan Luu Tassel Embellished Necklace, US$32 ; 2. Markus Lupfer Short Dress, US$294 ; 3. Jolie by Edward Spiers Denim Jacket, US$97 ; 4. George J. Love Earrings, US$30 ; 5. Nine West Ankle Boots, US$210 ; 6. Just Cavalli Handbag (sold out, similar here and here)

Jade Yeo, Writer
Key Bag: Maison Margiela Across-Body Bag, US$640
jadecollage
Then, we get to Jade’s super understated wardrobe, which many of you can probably identify with. She’s nearly always in black, or blue, but that’s not a bad thing! In fact, simple, flattering silhouettes are key to her minimalist style, hence the inclusion of the streamlined jumpsuit and tan watch alongside the Maison Margiela bag. Still, you’ll want to keep the look far from boring, and the way to do that is to make every detail count — pebbled leather gives the black bag some texture, while accessories like these organic-shaped, wave-inspired earrings can speak volumes about your personal style.
1. McQ Alexander McQueen Jumpsuit, US$379 ; 2. Dr. Denim Jeansmakers Coat, US$204 ; 3. Maanesten Wave Earrings, US$177 ; 4. Komono Winston Regal Elephant, US$124 ; 5. Maison Margiela Across-Body Bag, US$640 ; 6. Marni Sandals, US$543

You Can Now Dabao Your Things Anytime With This Kopi-Bag-Inspired Tote

We aren’t really sure exactly what it is about nostalgia that sells, but you can’t deny that there is something timeless about memories.

wheniwasfour is probably one of the leading shops selling things that remind us of the good old days in a super local context. You probably won’t get half of these references if you didn’t grow up in Singapore. From jotter books to gem biscuits, we love everything because it’s just so relatable. Their designs and products are so Singaporean, it hurts.

And you cannot get more Singaporean that this – the quintessential kopi bag.

kopi-bag-dabao-singapore-souvenir

wheniwasfour hit the nail on the head with this kopi-bag inspired bag.

The mark of the die-hard coffee drinker that’s always on the go. The mark of the coffeeshop kopi. The mark of those times when toting around a takeaway bag of drinks (the bags weren’t just reserved for kopi) is more convenient than bringing around a plastic cup. The kopi bag is an instantly recognisable symbol of our kopitiams, and now you can permanently tote around a bag of kopi.

Dabao your things everyday with this bag, and you can even change the straps from pink to green to match your kopi for the day. It even comes complete with a straw, because how else would you drink your coffee?

kopi-bag-dabao-singapore-kopitiam

The totes are going at $19.90 each, which equals to about 16 bags of kopi. Going without your daily coffee for two and a half weeks is a worthy trade-off if you really want to indulge in your love for kopi.

kopi-bag-takeaway-singapore-kopitiam

The only chance of getting one is by dropping by their store on Waterloo Street as it is currently out of stock online. When you’re there, you might as well pick up some other items like the You Tiao pillow, a White Rabbit Sweet hair tie or a gem biscuit enamel pin to complete your Singaporean foodie-inspired look. Because the happiest joy in life is eating.

Follow wheniwasfour on Instagram to stay updated on the next release of the kopi bag. Meanwhile, you can check out the other 90s inspired at wheniwasfour.com or drop by their store at 261 Waterloo St, Singapore 180261.

Here's Why You'll Start Seeing Purple Highlighters Everywhere

For every glow-getter out there, highlighter is definitely at the top the list when it boils down to makeup essentials. This time, however, you may want to swap out your trusty champagne and rose gold iridescence for something a little more unconventional. Yup, in case you missed the entire title of this article, we’re looking at purple highlighters today.
A departure from traditionally warm highlighter hues, purple is out to become the next big thing in beauty, which may or may not have something to do with Rihanna’s recent look at the Fenty Beauty launch in London last week. As if using Fenty Beauty’s Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in the shades Unicorn and Confetti on her cheeks weren’t enough, she even wore a touch of Confetti on her lips to show just how multi-purpose the product is.

RiRi wasn’t the one to kick off the lilac scene, though. Back when Pat McGrath released her Skin Fetish 003, it crashed her site (no, seriously) the moment it hit virtual shelves. The pearly sheen laced with purple undertones soon made the world realise just how amazing the shade can look on different skin tones, and the reason why it compliments our faces is due to the purple hue our veins are tinged with, making lavender the most flattering and fashion-forward colour to define your cheekbones with.
You might also notice that purple’s the preferred shade when it comes to colour-correcting those dark eye circles, and it’s true – the colour helps to brighten up dull, sallow-looking skin, which is why purple highlighter will do just that for your overall complexion. Still not buying it? Swipe these purple highlighters on and witness the difference.

You Can Never Go Wrong With Black – Especially When It Comes To Watches

Daniel Wellington is probably the first brand that comes to your mind when you hear ‘minimalist watches’. Regardless of your gender, Daniel Wellington’s watches are timeless and easy to match with your outfits. Did we also mention that it’s a mid-range option that allows you to achieve that timeless, classy look without emptying your wallet too much? No wonder these watches are mainstays in everyone’s accessory drawer. You’ve probably seen them on the wrist of a friend. Or maybe two.
Previously, Daniel Wellington announced their Classic Petite Bondi Collection, a beautiful statement piece featuring white straps and dials lined in silver or rose gold. Now that we’ve hit Fall, white might still be a favourite choice if you want to stand out, but hey, new season, new look right?

Screen Shot 2017-09-25 at 18.06.40

rose gold and silver detailing for that classy and elegant finish

The latest addition to the Classic Petite collection is the Ashfield 32mm. Choose from a classic silver or the contemporary rose gold finish against an ebony black dial. The ash watch is matched with a matte black mesh strap for a touch of elegance. Another thing that we really love Daniel Wellington for is their interchangeable straps which you can change up anytime to spice up your outfit (it’s always worth mentioning). If a mesh strap is not your kind of thing, pick from their six other leather straps – Bristol, Durham, St Mawes, Sheffield, York, and Reading. You don’t have to worry about the watch being too bulky – with an ultra-thin watch face, it’ll feel like a feather on your arm.

Classic Somerset and Suffolk (2)

back to basics with a limited edition Classic Suffolk and Classic Somerset

If you really insist on not having a black watch because it might seem too dreary, you’ll like their other new designs. The classic collection gets a striking revamp, where the Suffolk and Somerset collections are re-released with limited edition red and blue straps while retaining their minimalistic, clean design. We can totally see these timepieces giving your dreary Fall colours a splash of vibrance without losing their elegant touch. When spring rolls around, the red and blue straps will also lend itself to the bright colours of summer – basically versatility all in one strap.

The new Classic Petite Ashfield collection and limited edition Suffolk and Somerset collection, from $249,  is now available at all official Daniel Wellington stores located at Raffles City, Suntec City, VivoCity, Tampines One, Westgate, TANGS VivoCity, TANGS at Tangs Plaza. They can also be found online at danielwellington.com and cocomi.com.

These New Beauty Drops Are Right on Time for Halloween

While it may not be a holiday most Singaporeans celebrate, Halloween is always a fun one because it summons creativity within the creepy community. As we inch even closer to October 31st, we can’t stop thinking about what we’re going to wear – on our faces, that is; and when September rolls around, brands tend to drop some ghoulishly good makeup products to usher in the season of spellbinding (and sometimes creepy) beauty. This time, it’s no different.

Strobe Cosmetics Freak Show and Hotel Eyeshadow Palettes, US$25 each. Available from strobecosmetics.com.

Fans of American Horror Story can finally rejoice, because Strobe Cosmetics has brought back two of their incredible AHS-themed eyeshadow palettes, Freak Show and Hotel, just for us. Despite Freak Show‘s title, the shades in this palette are actually really wearable and flattering. Needless to say, we’re in love with the shade Twisty, a rich shimmery purple, as well as Strongman, a gorgeous rose gold shade that lets you take on the trend easily. The Hotel palette, on the other hand, amps up the level of craziness. There’s a rusty metallic red that kinda looks like dried blood, and a nauseating shade of green that’ll give you that ghoulish glow you seek.

Lunatick Cosmetic Labs High Definition Microfinish Pressed Powder, $20. Available from lunaticklabs.com.

If your current setting powder feels a little drab, the good folks at Lunatick Cosmetics Lab has a hair-raising solution to that, because the brand’s High Definition Microfinish Pressed Powder is housed in a ouija board. Sure makes you wanna use it even more, doesn’t it? You may have had to keep your very own ouija board under wraps when you were little, but you can make this creepy powder the centrepiece of your vanity now. While the setting powder doesn’t actually summon spirits (or does it…?), it definitely helps to sop up excess sebum to mattify your skin for those Halloween photos – unless, of course, a greasy face is part of your look.

Makeup Revolution Skull Highlighter (possibly named Ghost Lights), price TBC. Coming soon to tambeauty.com.

Even the darkest of souls need some illumination, and thankfully, it comes in the form of a highlighter. We’re not talking about any old highlighter you can find at a nearby Sephora store, though. We’re referring to this skull-embossed one by Makeup Revolution. Thanks to a fan of the cosmetics brand, we got ourselves a taste of the new skull highlighter. While there isn’t much else we know about the product, we sure as hell hope to see it featured on the webstore sometime soon, so fingers crossed. As we wait impatiently together, let’s have a look back at the Halloween makeup tutorials we loved last year. We’ll be rounding up our favourites from this year very soon.

Here's Where You Can Get Moschino's My Little Pony Capsule Collection

Over the weekend, a little thing called the Moschino x My Little Pony collaboration descended onto our world, and it’s everything we love about Moschino’s capsule collections — fun, irreverent, and totally lovable. You’d think Jeremy Scott would run out of ideas, after featuring stop shop signs, putting fragrances in window cleaner bottles, pill bags complete with the aluminium backing, oversized Barbie mirror phone cases and backpacks with the iconic golden arches, referencing both fast food and fast fashion, but you see, we should never, ever underestimate Scott and his very on-point cultural references, because, this.

Mochino 2 Mochino 3

Of course, right? Here, he manages to please everybody, from your closet Brony (that is, male adult fans of the colourful ponies) and 6-year-olds, to the avant-garde dressers who appreciate a little irony, to the millennial adult who’s willing to spend money on anything that relates to their 80s/90s childhood, and of course, that basic b*tch friend of yours. Pink! Pastel and rainbows! Occasionally sparkly and magical! Yes, yes and yes. If that’s not enough 90s psychedelia for you, check out this video:

Naturally, the Moschino girl wears it with a twist, and a rock-chic sensibility: along with the pastel colour palette, we see fishnet stockings and studded bags and knee-high boots, so you know that even though the collection looks super girly and cutesy, you can choose to rock it up your way too.

Scott’s vision is to have the original 1980s ponies, and a couple of new ones, across plenty or wear and accessories, from a bi-colour bomber jacket with a slight sheen that goes with a matching skirt, or one with a literal Rainbow Dash along its sleeve, to long sweaters and sweatpants that are their own take on the loungewear-for-the-street trend.

Double The Fun: Girls Join The Boys In Tom Ford's Lipstick Heaven

Tom Ford’s annual Lips And Boys collection is always something to look forward to. The limited edition range of lipsticks will satisfy even the pickiest of lipstick wearers – they come in every shade, finish and are small enough to pop into your clutch.
Wait till you see what Tom Ford has got in store for you this year. Not only are the 50 colours from last year’s Lips And Boys collection making a comeback, there will be an all new Lips And Girls collection with another 50 colours.
BOYS+_+GIRLS_DPS
The 50 shades in the Boys collection are named after all the men in Mr Ford’s life – from his partner to award-winning actor Colin Firth. We’ll let you guess who the various inspirations are based on the names! This is probably the only time that you don’t have to commit to one boy.
Likewise, the sensuous shades in the Girls collection are named after the girls who have inspired Tom Ford in some way or another. Once again, we’ll leave you to guess the real-life muses behind the names.
Pretty much any colour you can imagine can be found in the Lips And Girls collection. Warm colours and cool colours are aplenty, with a couple of interesting ones like an arctic blue sheer. All sorts of finishings from matte to shiny and shimmery is in there somewhere too. You’ll be swatching for a couple of hours once you set your eyes on them – you have 50 shades to go through (100 if you want to make your way through both the Girls and Guys collections).

Instead of the trademark glossy mahogany with gold trimming casing that the Lips And Guys colours come in, the Girls come in a limited edition ivory case. Get a complete set of all 50 colours for $2500, or get a trio of selected colours for $150.

Here are a couple of shades to look out for in the Lips And Girls collection that will put a spin on your lipstick collection.

Wear these sheer lipsticks on its own, or swipe it over another your favourite shade for a whole new look! Create a whole new wardrobe of colours with these sheers. Lily will be an ideal choice if you only have budget for one; it’ll add a creamy sheen to whatever colour you are layering it on, or you can wear it straight for that deathly pale waif look.

Aside from the range of nudes to pinks, the Girls also include darker shades. Georgie is a lovely mauve, whilst Kyra is a mocha shade for those with more tan skin tones. Even though Nico might seem like a dark chocolate, it goes on as a translucent, plummy sheer that you can layer up on.
The Tom Ford Boys And Girls Collections are now available for a limited time at the Tom Ford boutique at The Shoppes @ Marina Bay Sands, and at counters at TANGS at Tang Plaza and Robinsons Raffles City.

Legendary Brand Yashica Teases Comeback With “Unprecedented” Camera

Earlier this August, Yashica released a series of vague trailers, teasing shutterbugs with the promise of new products before unveiling clip-on smartphone lenses. Needless to say, plenty of fans were disappointed, especially those hoping for a new camera from the iconic brand.

Thankfully, all that hype wasn’t for nothing. The company has once again teased yet another cryptic trailer, this time revealing the launch of a brand new camera. Titled “The Prologue”, the video is frustratingly scarce in terms of information, with only two messages to really take note of.
The first message comes in the form of the tagline: “Expect the Unexpected: The Unprecedented Camera by YASHICA”, with the second message a lot more significant, simply stating: “October 2017, Kickstarter”.

yashica_new_camera2

So there are a few things we know. One, the new camera will definitely come from crowdfunding (which is a little iffy if you ask us, even though Yashica is an established brand). Two, the word “unprecedented” suggests something completely different and crazy to the other options available in the market.

Yashica’s new 2-in-1 clip-on lenses

The question is: what is considered “unprecedented”? Will we see a digital/film hybrid like Fujifilm’s Instax SQ10 or will Yashica go down the mirrorless route? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: we’re seeing a renaissance of once-defunct camera brands, and Yashica’s latest camera could once again propel it amongst the big boys.
Till that happens, stick with us for more updates.

IKEA’s New AR App Helps You Preview Furniture in Your Home

It’s one of the 21st century’s biggest conundrums: fitting furniture into a home. That shelf you’ve been eyeing for the past three months is simply gorgeous, and you’re convinced that it’s the right addition to your crib, but the question is: how would it look like next to the couch and TV set, and more importantly, will there even be space for it?

Those are just some of the questions that IKEA is looking to answer with its latest digital creation – IKEA Place, a new augmented reality (AR) app that lets you preview how furniture will look like in your home, letting you make decisions before you splash your hard-earned cash, something we’re all guilty of after a full-day visit to IKEA.

IKEA_AR_APP_PLACE_Master_still_7-4

Rolling out as part of Apple’s iOS 11 release, of which the tech giant’s new ARKit is a huge feature, this free iOS app uses a combo of 3D and true-to-scale models to give you an “accurate impression” of a piece of furniture, whether it’s a sofa, bed, foot stool, or coffee table.
01_IKEA_Scan_Place_225x400_UnBranded

How it works is really simple. The app uses your phone’s camera to scan a room, letting you place representations of IKEA’s furniture around your home, with the software smart enough to depict precise lighting and shadows. After which, you can reposition everything, from shifting items at different angles to looking underneath them.
02_IKEA_Move_Rotate_Place_225x400_UnBranded

The app covers more than 2,000 products, although not every piece of furniture from IKEA’s catalogue will be included. As of now, there’s no word if there’ll be an Android version via ARCore or if the app will even be launched in Singapore (the app is currently only available in the US).
One thing’s for certain though: this is a pretty damn cool piece of technology, and will probably revolutionise the way we buy furniture in the future. Here’s hoping that consumers in Singapore will be able to use it soon.

Flare Highlight Is the Über Extra Makeup Trend You Need to Try

When Fenty Beauty‘s Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife hit the stores and our cheekbones, it proved that there’s never a thing as too much highlight. The yellow-gold beam may be the most extra we’ve ever seen on someone, but a makeup artist on Instagram, @thestudyofmakeup, is challenging that by literally making her face shine as bright as a diamond.

Light flare on light flare

A post shared by ☁️✨ (@thestudyofmakeup) on

Dubbed ‘flare highlight’, the intense solar gleam you see on her cheeks makes her glow like a Disney Princess, which is actually what she aspires to look like. If you’re wondering which product she used to get that lens flare effect, it’s Makeup Revolution’s Blushing Hearts Highlighter in Goddess of Love. Compared to various other highlighters with gold and pink undertones, this product has white shimmer in it which reflects light best, taking its luminous payoff to new heights.

That isn’t the only thing that matters, though. As shared with Allure, it all boils down to the tool. She says, “Most people apply their highlight with a large fan brush. I use a very dense, wet eyeshadow brush.” So instead of brushing the powder across your cheekbone with a light hand, this method will pack those pigments close and help you achieve that major sparkle.

🌙 We must bring our own light to the darkness

We’re not done with the look just yet. She reportedly adds one Swarovski crystal to her cheekbone, so when light from the golden hour hits her cheeks, her camera captures the ridiculous glimmer that cuts right through.

'Hair Nails' Might Become A Thing And We Can Now Throw 2017 Away

Every time we think the Internet cannot surprise us anymore, someone else somewhere out there in the deep, dark depths will prove us wrong. We thought we had seen the worst of viral beauty trends, from squiggly eyebrows that looks like worms to fake lashes on your bottom eyelid, and even tongues full of glitter. And even though we tried to let this go, don’t forget that time everyone shared what they used to blend their makeup (apparently a boyfriend’s balls is an option).
Be prepared to be amazed or get nightmares for the rest of the week when you see what we have in store for you. We present to you, hair nails (not hairy nails), courtesy of Korean illusion artist Dain Yoon.

Dain Yoon basically replicated her own face onto her nails, complete with long luscious locks from her own head. Each miniature face is so intricately detailed, it’s a tad creepy. Dain Yoon eventually cut the hair on her nails short, but seems content to keep her face on them! The nails might make for a quirky photoshoot idea, but we have to draw the line at this becoming a trend for everyday wear.
If you find Dain Yoon familiar, she’s known for her highly realistic paintings, where she creates illusions using her face and to blend into backdrops. Her Instagram is full of her bizarrely aesthetic creations.

Are your eyeballs hurting yet? By the way, that picture was not photoshopped, it was painted on. It’s so stunning and unbelievably realistic that we do a double-take every time we look at it!

Okay, back to hair nails. Of course, other people are coming up with their own versions of this potential beauty trend where you are supposed to replicate your own face onto your nails, down to hair. A girl even cut her hair for this, because that’s dedication for you.

Here's Why Avocado Is Your Skin's New BFF

Turns out, avocado doesn’t just go on your toast or in your guac. Yup, the fleshy fruit is not just de-throning coconut in the superfoods category, it’s also shoving it aside in the beauty industry.
Why the buzz all of a sudden?
Applying avocado onto the skin in hair is actually nothing new. Dating back to ancient times, Aztecs used avocado oil as a protective moisturiser to shield their skin from harsh sun rays and whirring winds. Now, you’ll find them in plenty of beauty products thanks to its nourishing benefits. I mean, there’s a reason why Lupita Nyong’o touts avocado oil as her “one-stop shop” to achieving an all-over glow.
How does it work?
Avocado is rich in oleic acid, a fatty acid that helps to seal in moisture and regenerate damaged cells, so it’ll reduce any redness or irritation as it hydrates the skin. This is why the ingredient is particularly beneficial for those who struggle with psoriasis and eczema. Our current favourite snack is also high in vitamin K, which aids in micro blood circulation, as well as vitamins C & E to brighten and condition, so you can say hello to that boosted glow with continued use.
Your skin’s going to love avocado as much as your tummy, so it’s time to get acquainted with these yummy beauty products (please don’t consume them).
