These Heatproof Beauty Gems Are Waiting to Be Discovered at Your Nearest Drugstore

If your makeup’s been wrecked by the blazing sun one too many times, you’re not alone. This relentless humidity has a reputation for melting off our meticulously painted faces, which is why we generally gravitate towards beauty products that’ll help put an end to that.
On our hunt for more weather-appropriate makeup, we came across a fresh Australian brand, Klara Cosmetics, which recently nestled itself into Sasa stores, serving up plenty of pigmented, longwear, and heatproof options. Needless to say, we immediately enlisted a number of their products to beef up our arsenal of warm weather warriors.
We had a quick chat with the brand’s passionate founder and CEO, Klara Sabotkoski, to get acquainted with the brand as well as our new makeup essentials.
What makes Klara Cosmetics stand out in a sea of beauty brands?
What makes our products stand out is the 100% pigmentation. One swipe will give you a strong colour, so our customers will feel like they’re getting everything. It has to look good visually and it has to feel beautiful on the skin, so that is our point of difference, our unique position. The other thing is the innovation of colour and colour palettes that we put together. We concentrate a lot on makeup artists and follow what’s trending, so our consumers can use our amazing products to take on with the hottest trends.
What are some of the bestsellers in Australia right now?
We’re really known for our Kiss Proof Lips but we’re starting to be known for our Eyeshadow Palettes. At the moment, we’re creating something a little bit different with our eyeshadows. The themes behind it, the colours that we’re choosing… So we’re probably leaning towards eyeshadow palettes now.

In your presentation earlier, you mentioned the KissProof Lips can be used on the lids as well.
Yeah! We’ve got so many colours, but with the KissProof, you can actually put it on your eyelids, you can mix it into your foundation, because what we’re trying to do is allow you to become an artist. So you can use pigments and become creative yourself. If you just wanna use a bit of the product on your cheeks, or a little on your eyes to create an ombré effect – it’s absolutely safe to do that. All of a sudden, your product becomes many different products.
I know there are hundreds of items to choose from, but if you had to pick a favourite, which product would it be and why?
It’s like picking a favourite child – it’s hard! If you heard me in the presentation, I was just going, “I love this. I love that.” Which kid do you love most? They’re all so different. At the moment, I’m loving my limited edition Desert Rose Eyeshadow Palette and my Pro Palette… You see, I can’t. It just doesn’t work, I can’t do it.

Which products do you think will perform really well in the Singaporean market?
In Singapore, obviously it’s hot, but in Australia, we could get four seasons in one day. So when I was designing, working, and going into production, we took all those elements into consideration so it would work for all markets. What I’m thinking for Singapore and what I can see from the [Sasa team’s] reactions, because they weren’t even concentrating after they’ve been introduced to the makeup [laughs], I think eyeshadow is a big thing and lipstick is easy – it’s a good way to introduce the brand. I have a sneaking suspicion that our foundations and BB creams will do really well here. I think if our Reset 3D creams get discovered in store, it could be a phenomenon.
Reset 3D Moisture
Klara Cosmetics Reset 3D Cream, $37.90 each (L-R): Daily Skin-Corrector, Daily Anti-Aging, Daily Brightening

What’s the one makeup product every girl needs?
Oh my God, what can you walk out without? You can’t, you need everything. It’s very hard to walk out with just eyebrows, or eyelashes, or base. You can’t, you need the whole lot!
Okay, is there a set of products you find yourself reaching out for on a daily basis?
For me, I always wanna have beautiful skin, so while we wanna transform ourselves with makeup, we still want to be ourselves. We don’t wanna look over-caked, we don’t wanna look like we tried, so glowing, natural, beautiful skin is the first step, and then you need an eyebrow, you need a mascara, and you need a lippie.
What is the brand working on currently?
We’re working on so many things. I have a lot of passion for innovation, and I’m always looking to introduce new technology when we’re formulating our products. What we’re working on at the moment are our big palettes – each is gonna have like over 24 amazing colours. The ones that are coming out are called “Marrakech”and “Bondi”, and with the different colours we’ve put in there, we’re creating different themes, and because we’ve had a lot of makeup artists and a lot of input from influencers on what’s trending, I think it’s gonna do extremely well.
Are you also looking to expand the skincare range?
I’m always expanding, so we have roughly over 20 products in our skin range, and I think our most innovative area is in that range. Like the Reset 3D, it sits between skincare and makeup, so it’s skincare but it gives you a little bit of coverage. It’s creating a new demographic for the woman who doesn’t wanna wear a lot of makeup but she needs something for herself, for her own confidence and attitude, and that’s where Reset sits. But yeah, absolutely, I’m always expanding.

Vans Got Their Camo On With Their Latest Authentic Silhouette

Why go for plain monochrome colours when you can go loco over mono camo? With military print making a major comeback in the streetwear department, there is no better time than now for Vans to stock up on some basic military… equipment. And the skateboard brand is doing it like a boss by coming up with two full-on camo iterations of the Vans Authentic silhouette.

Coming in either “Snow Camo” or “Classic Camo”, the camouflage print runs from the heavy-duty canvas upper and down to the rubber midsole – they might just be the next training shoes our NS boys will rock in the army. With hue-matching shoe laces interweaving through metal eyelets, the shoes are then finished off with Vans’ signature waffle outsoles.

Surprise! It's Apparently Super Easy To Be A Fake Influencer

Everyone has an opinion on the word “influencer” nowadays, and it’s a love-hate relationship with most of them. Admit it (and we will too) — you’ve spent plenty a lunch session heatedly weighing in on how they dare flaunt their free food/clothes/makeup, or breathtaking backdrops, or significant others in your face, on how much they’re earning from their ‘job’ of populating Instagram feeds with pictures of themselves, how an “avs-looking” 16-year-old could be earning more than you.
Truthfully though, when that’s over and you’re scrolling through your feed on the MRT, you’re still caving in to the new lipstick that looks kinda mildly perfect actually, or googling for the price of that handbag, or saving that hip location in Marrakech/Santorini/California on your travel bucket list. You take a screenshot of that fairytale wedding table set-up (ridiculous, show off!) and add it to your Pinterest board. It’s confusing, but we’ve been there.
So it’s not surprising that we were downright gleeful when we first got wind of this piece of news: how marketing agency Mediakix faked two Instagram influencer accounts, and ended up making money from them.

Surf's up

A post shared by Alexa Rae (@calibeachgirl310) on

Wait a minute. Yep, you heard right. Sneaky eh!
They deliberately did that to delve into the issue of users buying followers and engagement, after their findings that the Instagram influencer market size is currently $1 billion, with the aim “to prove whether or not it’s possible for accounts with fake followers and engagement to secure brand sponsorship deals”. How?? You’ll be surprised that it was this easy.
1. Creating The Accounts
For the first account, they went for a lifestyle/fashion blogger feel, filling the feed with the photos from an imaginary LA-based girl, calibeachgirl310. Random string of numbers aside, you’ll find that the images look incredibly authentic upon first impression, with a range of close-ups, OOTDs, and that bikini bod along the beaches of Santa Monica. The truth though is that these photos were gathered together only after a one-day photoshoot with a local model — peer closely and you’ll find repeated outfits that clue you in on the account’s dubious roots.
Instagram-Influencer-Fake-Followers-Study-CaliBeachGirl310

As for the second account, it features one of those #wanderlust feeds we follow to inspire us on our next travels — only this time, travel influencer wanderingggirl is no more than an assemble of… free stock photos. We’re not even kidding, that’s almost zero effort. Well okay, not entirely; it must have taken a long time for someone to gather them and to note the different locations around the world, as generic as these places may be (the Eiffel Tower in Paris, palm trees in Maui, landscapes of Yosemite, the houses off Positano’s seaside cliffs).
Fake-Instagram-Influencer-Account-Wanderingggirl

To make the account slightly more convincing, we’ve noticed they’ve added certain touches. The captions are #basic, but pretty convincing, especially when filled with emojis or pretentious quotes. There are often subjects in the photo, a deliberate trick achieved by using stock photos of blonde girls showing the back of their heads (proving… it’s that easy to be basic?). And obviously, someone went to the trouble of creating imaginary timelines — a post of San Franciso on 8 May was followed up with photos of San Fran streets and the Golden Gate Bridge a few days later. Not bad.

Made it to SF ✈️looking forward to a couple days in this amazing city🌉

2. Buying Followers & Engagement
With the feeds all set up, it was time for them to spend money — on buying both fake followers and engagement (likes and comments). This started out carefully enough, with acquiring just 1,000 followers per day so that Instagram won’t suspect any foul play. Surprisingly though, they realised they could buy up to 15,000 followers a day without any issue. Pro tip! Since this was an experiment, they also tried out several companies, which range from $3 – $8 per 1,000 followers. The only difference is that the cheaper companies were less timely with their fakes, but hey, that means an ‘expensive’ $80 could get you a coveted 10,000 followers — the holy grail figure for you to start taking part in brand deals (more on that later).
It would of course be awkward if they’ve got this many followers and no engagement, so Mediakix went around to purchasing likes and comments too, at around 12 cents per comment and between $4 – $9 per 1,000 likes. For each photo, they purchased 500 – 2,500 likes and 10 – 50 comments. We noticed many of these were pretty standard, with compliments like “nice” or “love this” to questions about the camera used, but other than one random dubious account called ‘iphone7s128gb’,  most of our click-throughs look like real, legit people going on their real, legit lives… even when we checked the first few photos. Where are these fakes coming from?! Go on, check for yourself and get the sinking feeling that you don’t know anything anymore.

if you need me, you can find me here 🌴

Today's hike💚

A post shared by Amanda Smith (@wanderingggirl) on

If you’ve been keeping count, it means that at its cheapest, you can get 10,000 followers for $30 and with say, 1,000 likes and 10 comments each for 100 of your photos, that’s $520. Altogether, you need just $550 to nail a real-enough Instagram account that marketers would take seriously.
As for how this happens, take this Russian vending machine that you can buy Instagram likes from. It’s as easy as inserting 100 rubles ($2.30) and getting an instant 200 likes that you can use for any picture you’d like. Ah, sweet technology.
3. Getting Brands On Board!
So yes, back to our wandering cali girls. This actually happened. Once both accounts hit 10,000 followers, Mediakix could sign them up for various influencer marketing platforms. The results? A total of four paid brand deals, two for each account. The fashion one scored with a swimsuit company and an F&B brand, while the travel account snagged an alcohol brand and the same F&B company, with offers of monetary compensation, free products, or both. Yes, fictional characters can get #sponsored!
Which, you know, paints a terrible picture of the industry as a whole. Not so much on how easily the marketers got duped (because we would be too), but how easy it is to cheat your way through earning real cash.
Mediakix concludes with this: “Instagrammers with completely or partially fake followings and/or engagement present advertisers with a unique form of ad fraud that’s becoming more and more commonplace and could be siphoning tens of millions of dollars from brands.” Sounds ominous enough — but other than being personally shooked by this, we don’t really know how much this is a cause for alarm.

Did I fool you?

A post shared by Alexa Rae (@calibeachgirl310) on

Honestly, we still have faith in the more popular influencers and personalities we see on our feeds, because for all the self-absorption, the best of them are more hardworking than we think; it’s the so-called ‘micro-influencers’ we’re more wary about — yep, the people whom the infamous Faves Asia video are targeting, and we hate to say this, but they have a point.
The widely accepted definition of micro-influencers are those who post on social media platforms, with typically 1,000 to 100,000 followers. It turns out that a brand would rather engage a fleet of them, say 30 to 40 micro-influencers’, each with a concentrated audience and higher rate of engagement, compared to say, the Kardashians, where their content might get lost. This then brings about ‘conversions’, or regular people buying their product.
These are also numbers someone can more realistically hit — whether organically or not — though there will never be any official figures for who bought how many likes for instance, only rumours at quickly-forgotten conversations. So yeah, whether they lurk among us, we’ll never know… but hey, if you’re free enough to earn some quick bucks off this, why not try it out for yourself?

New Apple Leak Shows iPhone 8 in Copper Gold

The yet-to-be-launched iPhone 8 is officially the tech world’s worst kept secret. Numerous leaks have shown that the new gadget will most likely have a brand new all-glass design, facial recognition, and wireless charging.
This time however, the phone’s potential colourways have been revealed courtesy of prominent YouTuber Danny Winget, who managed to get his hands on high-quality dummy units of the highly anticipated gadget.

iphone8_colours

From left to right: black, copper gold, and silver

In a comprehensive walkthrough video, Winget talks about the new iPhone in three different colours (black, copper gold, and silver), reserving his dislike for the “Copper Gold” model, saying it’s his least favourite version and “hideous on this colour”.
“The shade is much darker,” Winget says. “It’s hard to even describe this colour. I think it’s pretty ugly. This is a drastic change from the rose gold colours  ”
Check out the full video below:

Despite his less than positive comments about the Copper Gold model, Winget notes that actual production units “tend to look better when they’re out in real life”, so it’s important to note that the iPhone 8 could look drastically different from what is shown in the video.
We certainly hope that’s the case. If the video is indeed accurate, the new Copper Gold version will have an ugly white bezel that covers the borders of the phone, a stark contrast from the slickness of the black and silver models.

Well, the only way to find out is when the phone drops later this year, which could be anytime between September to December. Till then, stick with us for more updates.

We Absolutely Heart the Dr. Martens x Lazy Oaf 2017 Fall/Winter Collection

There’s everything to love about this three-piece capsule collection: the quirky yet rebellious DNA of Lazy Oaf, and the classic aesthetics of Dr. Martens.
Capturing the essence of a gothic princess, everything in this collaboration has got our hearts, with our favourite being the Jungle Boots. Going laceless right from the get-go and pumped with a double platform sole, these bad boys are full of attitude and spunk. From the metallic heart-shaped zipper pull, to the ribbon laces running down vertically, and down to the ruffled, frilly perimeters, these charcoal-black booties just made life so much better even as the slogan “My Life Is Boring” lines the heels at the back.

DMxLO Satchel Bag

DMxLO Jungle Boot

There’s also no better way for us to express our love for the classic 1461 silhouette than to have adorably-sized red hearts generously scattered all over it. The ever-popular brogues are marked with the tag line, “Don’t Care”, at the heels, and come with smooth velvety laces to seal the deal. Do we also have a matching heart-shaped bag to go with? Uh, hell yeah? The satchel bag that’s made of Kiev leather, gets the dotted hearts treatment as well, and comes complete with a front buckle and removable crossbody strap.

No official word on when this collection will drop, but our hearts are already stolen just by looking at the pictures. But according to HYPEBAE, they will come very soon, so do stay tuned for future updates.

If you own a television at home, chances are you’ve come across OPPO’s FC Barcelona-themed ads, with clips of superstars like Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Neymar (who’s recently left the club) showing off their silky skills, juxtaposed against flashy images of the latest smartphone model.
That said; the Chinese tech company is taking its partnership with one of the world’s most famous football clubs a step further with the release of its limited edition FC Barcelona R11 in Singapore.

This Has Got to Be Lancôme's Cutest Collection Yet

For the past 82 years, Lancôme has established itself as a beauty brand of elegance; best known for their sleek packaging. Even their most adorable offering, the Juicy Shaker is housed in a silver gleam and takes on a graceful shape. When we first laid eyes on Lancôme’s new Fall collection, however, we barely recognised the brand – even after a double-take. The whimsical lineup may be a huge departure, but we’ve definitely fallen head over heels for each and every product on show.

OLT x Lancôme ! Out this week 💕💅🏻💄🎀 #oltxlancôme #olympiaswonderland #olympialetan #lancome

A post shared by Olympia Le-Tan (@olympialetan) on

In its quirkiest collaboration yet, the French powerhouse teamed up with Parisian fashion designer Olympia Le-Tan to create the retro-fresh makeup collection of our dreams. For those who aren’t acquainted with Olympia Le-Tan’s work, she’s recognised for her fun minaudière handbags that are inspired by classic literature, so it’s no surprise they’re adored by a large number of individuals from the literary-loving fashion crowd.

Rather than creating new products or putting a name stamp on existing ones, Olympia delved into Lancôme archives that are decades old and gave certain shades a modern spin, including an orangey-red lippy from 1980 coincidentally named Olympia. Furnished with charming illustrations and 3D elements, the complete lineup will include two classic L’Absolu Rouge lipsticks, each engraved with a lip imprint and Olympia’s signature; two new Artliners, three Matte Shakers, and four nail polishes with a clear topcoat that’s loaded with gold stars. And of course, there’s a palette that mimics her iconic, coveted handbags.
So if you’ve always wanted to own an Olympia Le-Tan exclusive, but have been way too broke to afford anything she creates, now’s the time to seize this opportunity.

TIghtlining The Eyes With A Metal Chain Is Currently Trending On Instagram

If you are one who has to open your mouth and make a weird face while tightlining your eyelids, this upcoming Instagram beauty trend that we’re about to introduce is probably not for you. The makeup look in question: bling waterlining. Created by an 18-year-old aspiring makeup artist from Denmark, what this trend requires you to do is to basically stick a chain of metal at your waterline. Say whut?

bling waterlining

A post shared by Sofie Petersen (@sofiepeterseen) on

In an interview with Allure, Peterson said she no longer feels excited when she looks at her palettes and was stuck in a “creative crisis”, running out of makeup ideas to work on. She then looked to her jewellery box and found an old gold necklace and somehow decided to place it on her waterline. Why oh why? While we are currently blinking our eyes for no damn reason right now, this isn’t unfamiliar territory for Peterson. Previously, she had experimented with necklace clasps, rings, and even the butterfly-shaped earring backs by hanging them on her lids. Someone save us.

Though we totally agree that the look is pretty innovative and makes for a perfect festival look, sticking them on will probably take us hours. And we’re not even sure if those metallic stuff are hygienic enough to put on. We ain’t no eye doctor and we sure aren’t looking forward to seeing one, but kudos to Peterson for pulling off such a badass look that could potentially spawn a new trend of waterline stickers that will probably then have a higher standard of safety.

An Easy Trick to Help Grow Out Those Brow Hairs

As we always say, brows are the pillars of the face. Those hairs are responsible for framing the visage, which means they can make or break your entire look. While we patiently wait for the day barely-there brows start to trend, it’s safe to say that bold full brows are here to stay.

🌼@covergirl 🌼 gloss, gold shadow and mascara (no lashes needed😏)

A post shared by Zendaya (@zendaya) on

That’s definitely not good news for those who weren’t blessed with strong arches at birth. After all, we can’t all look like Cara Delevingne or Zendaya. But what we can do is try to grow them out, and today, we’re going to show you a simple trick that doesn’t involve the use of brow products. The trick to getting bolder brows is PATIENCE. Just kidding, don’t get mad. We do have an actual tip for you.
The key is exfoliation. This time, we’re serious. Dead skin can accumulate at different areas of the face, and while we remember to use all sorts of scrubs and chemical exfoliants, we tend to go around the brow area during application. The next time you reach for those products, apply them over your brows and gently massage the area. We won’t want to pull out the last 3 strands of brow hairs now, do we?
When it comes to hair follicles, exfoliation allows for better circulation, which is why this step will help you achieve thicker brows in no time. If you don’t use a scrub or a chemical exfoliant, take a clean and soft toothbrush and go over the brow area gently to stimulate their growth.

The Upcoming Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Glows in The Dark

Yeezy season is coming back again and this time, the shoes are lit. No, literally. Word about the “Semi Frozen Yellow” silhouette offering fans a little something different was not all just about the flashy neon-yellow colourway, but instead was something way much cooler – they actually glow in the dark. Leaked images surfaced on the internet and revealed that the sneaker illuminates in the dark at the sole, shoe laces, ankle lining, and rear pull tag, probably making this release one that is highly anticipated for the remaining half of 2017.

Another drop that will probably land on every die-hard Yeezy fan’s must-cop list will have to be the maroon iteration of the Yeezy Boost 350 V2. Dubbed as the “Red Night”, this colourway is definitely going to be the dark knight of all the upcoming Yeezy releases this year. Sporting a mysterious shade of burgundy, the Primeknit upper is a swirl of purple and pink – something a little different from the usual offerings of nude earthy tones.

Other leaked images of potential Yeezy Boost colourways include “Chalk Coral” and “Blue Tint”. The former is a marble swirl of bubblegum pink with an off-white hue, contrasted against a sky blue “SPLY-350” wording at the lateral, while the latter is a lighter version of the “Zebra”, with the ankle collar subtly tinted in blue.

No news yet from adidas on when these will officially drop, but we’re expecting it to be sometime later in December, so you know what to wish for this coming Christmas.

NYLON Team Picks: Affordable Alternatives To Your Favourite High-End Beauty Products

We’re always fans of drugstore products, and even if you can’t find them at your friendly neighbourhood mall, there are still plenty of budget makeup items we can happily talk about. You already know that eyeliners fare surprisingly well when they cost below $25, but what about the other items? Now, before you claim that we must be spoilt by the hundreds of beauty products that land on our desks (okayyy, you’re not wrong), do understand that like any Singaporean, we can’t resist a steal too. So while we still love the originals, here are the best makeup and skincare dupes we can find — tried and tested on our faces, of course!

cleanserdupes

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Cleansing Oil

I always do a double-cleanse in the evenings, so prior to discovering the Hada Labo Cleansing Oil, I was using Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm as the first step of my nightly routine to literally take an entire day of makeup and grime off my face. You just need a few seconds to massage the product around before emulsifying and rinsing it off with water. No allergic reaction, no clogged pores, no dryness – just clean, smooth, and hydrated skin after every rinse. The only thing that bothered me was its price. I really didn’t want to surrender $53 for a product that won’t even be on my skin for more than 15 seconds a day, so I searched for a cheaper alternative. I can’t remember how I was introduced to Hada Labo’s Cleansing Oil, but I’m glad I got acquainted and took a bottle home. Similar to Clinique’s Cleansing Balm, this Cleansing Oil is also a fragrance-free option that melts away makeup instantly, emulsifies into a silky milk, and rinses off clean without irritating my sensitive skin. The only differences are the distinct consistencies and the oils they’re formulated with, but those are small concerns because they both get the job done.

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm, $52, available at Clinique counters

micellardupes

CReeR 4-in-1 Wipe Off Cleansing Water

Since I started working at NYLON, my skin has been spoiled with all the expensive skincare that happened to come my way, particularly the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water, the one cleanser that manages to flawlessly remove my makeup in a single motion. It’s also been described as a desk and bathroom necessity for some of us here at NYLON, so my love for the product is rather justified. As it’s price tag is a little on the higher side, you can imagine my feeling of dread as I witness the liquid gradually deplete.
However, the Creer 4-in-1 Wipe Off Cleansing Water ended up in my hands recently – a Japanese drugstore staple, Google tells me – and I have to say that my micellar water woes are no more. It’s touted as a makeup remover, facial wash, exfoliant and toner that contains hot spring water for moisturising – an all-in-one product, basically. The first time I used this, I removed the makeup off of half my face initially to ‘test it’s worth’, and was completely surprised when the makeup just slid off, waterproof eyeliner and all. I occasionally wear rather thick makeup, and this was one of those days. That being said, while it left my skin feeling fresh and cleansed of any makeup, I still went ahead with my regular cleanse-tone-moisturise routine, because it felt akin to a makeup remover and not an ‘one-stop product’ as it claimed to be. Although, I do have oily skin, so those with dry skin might disagree with me on this! Overall, I’m definitely not disappointed.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

Now, if I were rich, there’s a whole bunch of stuff I’d buy — however, eyeshadow sticks aren’t one of them. I’d sooner spend on some other frivolous item (Star Wars Landspeeder? Game of Thrones jewellery?) than this because why bother when I can get a way cheaper alternative. Thank you, NYX! Their Jumbo Eye Pencils are every bit as creamy and pigmented as the ones touted by more high-end makeup brands, and while I do love the Laura Mercier version for its staying power and nice shimmery rose gold, I’d say that the Yogurt shade makes for a nice substitute. If you don’t like to see the product creasing on your lids, go light — I tap it on with my fingers and this radiant shade does the neat trick of opening up my eyes, making them pop with that bit more definition, especially when I put it on top of my lids. It works well over eyeshadows too, and has a nice tone that doesn’t look too shimmery or cheap. Of course, being the lazy multi-tasking person I am, I tend to use it on its own and it glides on nicely, plus I can carry this nifty thing everywhere, instead of lugging an entire makeup palette! Try a little champagne shimmer on your inner eye corners and lower lashline for a youthful look too.

Revlon Insta-Blush in Nude Kiss

When you’re travelling light, this blush stick is perfect for quick makeup on-the-go. Less time getting ready, more time to go out and explore. Just swipe it straight under cheekbones and blend with fingers for model-esque cheek hollows. It looks pigmented and way to dark upon first application, but blends out very nicely into a sheer gradient of colour. It’s also multi-functional — I use it on my eyes as a subtle shadow and even as a contour around my jawline. It’s convenient enough to carry around in my pocket and give my tired face some definition right when I get off the plane.

Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm Light in No.3 Rosy Brick

This crayon-like lip balm is very similar to Clinique’s Chubby Stick, for of course, much less. While both of these do give off a very sheer layer of colour, the former tints the lips, which is very much an expected quality coming from a Korean brand, and also something that I look out for. I hate having my lips looking pale, so you will always find at least one type of lipstick tint in my makeup pouch. I use Mamonde’s Creamy Tint Color Balm light when I am not going for a defined lip shape. I generously smear the product all over my lips before applying another lipstick colour over, so I know I have a backup when the second layer disappears into the day. It’s also great for touchups because when it’s sheer, you don’t have to be afraid of overdoing your lips! Plus, this leaves my lips feeling soft and moist without leaving any aftertaste that usually comes with lip tints.

If You Like Millennial Pink, You'll Love These Intoxicating Candles

Nope, we’re not done with millennial pink just yet. The shade has invaded every aspect of our lives, plastering itself all over shoes, clothes, backpacks, and beauty products (we’re looking at you, Glossier). Now, even our homes are crying out for a bit of not-pink pink too. What in the world is going on here?

If you really want to indulge your home, the easiest way to incorporate the hue into any area is to do it sparingly and tastefully, which is why these Instagram-worthy pink candles are perfect for that. Created by Los Angeles-based brand Boy Smells, which adorably enough was started by a pair of boys, the lineup of 11 beeswax and coconut wax candles range from floral to musky and even cinnamon-scented. Obviously, each candle is labelled with a gorgeous, matte pink sticker, displaying its chic sensibilities when it “accidentally” finds itself next to your Herbivore Botanical items in an image for Instagram.

420 FRIENDLY. Our very first smell. Celebrate responsibly. #kush #boysmells #candles #ismellbs

You won’t have to worry about smelling too much like a boy or a girl either. The scents sit between the line of musky and sweet without being too cloying, probably due to the surprising combination of notes, so no matter your olfactory preference, you’re sure to find one that doesn’t smell cheap (I’m sure you know what I mean).

The Makeup Collection Every 90s Kid Will Love

It seems like nostalgic old school items are making a major comeback, especially for the 90s kids – what with the Hello Kitty stationery sets, and Samsung bringing back the iconic flip phones. Oh, what a time to be alive. Joining in the 90s party, PUR Cosmetics has finally launched their much-hyped about My Little Pony-themed makeup collection, in honour of the upcoming animation film, My Little Pony: The Movie.
The collection includes an eye shadow palette, a makeup brush set, six lip glosses, and a 3-piece all-in-one glow stick kit, all of which is nothing short of magical, whimsical, and psychedelic.

First up, the eyeshadow palette already packs a punch with it’s vivid, eye-catching kaleidoscope of colours, that includes matte shades as well as a dose of shimmery goodness. All the basic everyday neutrals can be found in the palette, but you can also get experimental and imaginative with their bold and bright colours that are bound to serve as key accents of any makeup look. Of course, it goes without saying that the names of the shades are also named after some of our adored characters from our childhood cartoon show, such as Fluttershy, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, and Rainbow Dash.

Round off your favourite pony look with the collection’s glass-like shine lip glosses that’s a mixture of jewel-tone glitter and opalescent pearl pigments. Also, who can resist those holographic makeup brushes? The pony-approved brushes are made of soft, fluffy synthetic fibres that promise less fallout, less product absorption and more controlled application for all your blending needs.

We might not be over all-things unicorn yet, but we are always up for any pony-inspired looks like this one here.

3 Ways To Work This Gelato-Themed Makeup Collection

Pretty clever, to create an entire makeup collection inspired by gelato – who wouldn’t like the promise of colours in candy tones, dispensed in soft, super-blendable textures? Good move by Elizabeth Arden then, with their newest Gelato Crush Colour Collection, just launched this month.

elizabeth-arden-gelato-colour-crush

We’re already incredibly tempted by the 3 products in the range, the Cool Glow Cheek Tint, a liquid-gel blush that blends like a dream; the Plush Up Lip Gelato, a sheer moisturising lipstick in 22 shades that also leaves a cooling effect on the lips; and the Plump Up Lip Liner, a creamy formula that helps to reduce fine lines around the mouth.
There are so many candy hues across this line that it’s easy to feel like a kid lost in a gelato store, so we narrowed it down to 3 key looks:

Natural
There is an abundance of nude hues across the 3 products, so there are plenty of options for working a natural flush onto your cheeks and lips.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look1_1

1. Dot the Cool Glow Cheek Tint in Pink Perfection on the apples of the cheeks.

2. Blend with your fingers, using a circular motion.

3. Line lips with the Plump Up Lip Liner in Nude, which will add a slight plumping effect and smooth fine lines around the mouth.

4. Give lips a natural tint with the Plush Up Lip Gelato in Bare Kiss.

And the complexion instantly looks more energised with these subtle colours.

Fun
If you’ve always wanted to get into the coral makeup trend but were too scared to, wearing it in sheer washes of colour will be a lot less intimidating.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look2_1

1. Get naturally flushed with the Cool Glow Cheek Tint in Coral Daze, applied high on the cheeks.

2. Blend by moving two fingers across the cheeks in an upwards direction.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look2_3

3. Let the Plump Up Lip Liner in Kiss Me Coral double up as a creamy eyeshadow.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look2_4

4. Use the rubber tip at the other end of the lip liner to blend out the colour over the eyelids.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look2_5

5. Complete the look with the Plush Up Lip Gelato in Tangerine Dream.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look2_6

See! Wearing warm colours really isn’t that difficult.

Sophisticated
The darkest shades in the Gelato Crush Colour Collection aren’t scary at all. They’re a good way to ease your way into statement lips, for a more glamorous look.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look3_1

1. The Cool Glow Cheek Tint in Berry Rush can be used to subtly sculpt the face too. Apply it just under the cheekbones.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look3_2

2.  Blend it with two fingers in an up-and-down motion.
cheeksandlips_tutorial_Look3_4

3. Since it’s a dark lip colour, start with lining the lips with the Plump Up Lip Liner in Raisin. This will help better define the edges of the lips.

4. Then fill in with the Plush Up Lip Gelato in Black Cherry.

How Adorable Is kikki.K's Latest Animal-Themed Sweet Collection?

Short answer: very. Not long after we did a post on build-a-cats did we stumble upon this in our mailboxes: kikki.K’s new gorgeous Sweet Collection that features hand-drawn illustrations of the cutest cat and pug characters. You don’t need to be an animal lover to fall head over heels in love with these — but if you are one, it’s definitely a collection where you’d want to own everything.

sweet_campaign_planner_blog_detail_2
And thank goodness that this isn’t just confined to stationery — yeah we get the usual A5 Linen Notebook, with a subtle gold foil detailing, and the usual favourites of gel pens, notebooks, notepads, and journals (though we have to say, we’re loving the cat-shaped paper clips and adhesive notes set), but they’ve upped the playfulness here with pencil cases, leather key rings, and even enamel pins or wooden ornaments. Or, dishes, cups and a water bottle! The stuff that look great with all that stationery on your desk, of course.

You can be assured of the quality, say, the key ring being made from a beautiful two-toned leather with gold hardware, and more importantly, a keen sense of #deskgoals aesthetics since everything’s made with the harmonious colour palette of teal, cream and gold foil in mind.

And while kikki.K have long been advocates of putting your thoughts to pen and paper, you’ll be excited to know that these new characters will be able to invade your smartphone screens as well. For the first time, the Swedish brand has launched stickers for iMessage, where you can choose to express yourself from over 50 stickers based on motifs from this Sweet Collection — they’ve managed to retain the neat, hand-drawn quality of the illustrations on the mobile platform, with adorable flowers or cacti or teacups thrown in the mix too. Even if you’re not one for cutesy stickers, you gotta admit that they’re too pretty to resist flaunting.

Balmain and L'oreal Are Teaming Up to Serve Up Some Drugstore Lipstick Fix

The last time Olivier Rousteing came up with a safari jungle-themed colourway for his collaboration with Beats by Dr. Dre, we fell in love with the muted khaki and tan peachy brown hues, and wished we could wear those exact same colours on our faces. Lo and behold, our wish was granted when Balmain announced that the brand will be teaming up with L’oreal for a drugstore lipstick collection that includes the urban safari colour palettes we’ve seen on the really expensive headphones.
Launching on 17 September, the lipstick collection is made up of three separate tribes: Tribe Rock, Tribe Couture, and Tribe Glamazone.

Make a bold statement with Tribe Rock, which consists of head-turning colours such as a deep dark brown, an overcast grey, electric blue, and a mystic purple.

Every lipstick collection is bound to include a few shades of red and pink, and these can be found in Tribe Couture. Feel like a million bucks with the tribe’s rose gold shimmery shade, or channel your inner #girlboss energy with a striking yet sexy bold red lipstick.

Finally, go camo with Tribe Glamazone, where you get to paint your pouts in neutral brown shades or in a unique khaki green shade.
The only caveat here is that these limited edition lipsticks might not even hit Singapore shores. According to Allure, three shades will be featured in a “jewel edition” that will be made available at Balmain stores (which doesn’t sound like a worldwide thing to us), while the rest will make its debut at the next Paris Fashion Week taking place in September. The collection will then later be sold at select drugstores that carry L’oreal Paris products, so really, don’t get your hopes up too high. But if you are desperate to get your hands on them, your best bet is to use Airfrov and engage the help of travelers to get those lip bullets for you.
