The Classic Vans Old Skools Get A Slight Revamp In The Latest Bleacher Pack

Tired of seeing everyone sporting the same classic Vans Old Skool trainers? Yeah, we are too. But wait, before you move on to look for something else, Vans has come up with a varsity-inspired Bleacher Pack that will have your feet stand out from the crowd. Both the Era 59 and Old Skool models will take on vintage colourways that are suited for the coming fall season, contrasted against the dark gum make-up of Vans’ iconic vulcanised waffle outsole.

What sets the classic black Old Skool trainers apart from the one featured in the Bleacher Pack is that the latter uses genuine leather for its uppers. Then, taking inspiration from the leather sleeves of varsity letterman jackets, white stitches line the borders of the contrasting Sidestripe at the lateral. Going back to basics, the Old Skool model comes in three classic colourways – black, grey, and true white.

The monochromatic Era 59 model on the other hand, receives a little white treatment on the tongue and heel counter to go with the twill-canvas upper. It will be available in four tonal options including black, true white, port royale, and delft blue, resting on a green-hued gum sole. Both models finish off with a stark white collar lining and white cotton laces.
Damn, we wished we had this many choices to choose from when we were still schooling. But hey, nobody said you have to be a student to cop these sneakers, right?
Vans Bleacher Pack, $69 – $99, available in Vans stores, select retailers, and online at vans.com. Kids styles are only available at ION Orchard, VivoCity, Jem, and Raffles City stores.

This Unassuming Ingredient Is a Warrior Against Hormonal Acne

Of all the blemish-busting ingredients I’ve become acquainted with through years of rigorous dermatological research – salicylic acid, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and retinoids – I’ve never encountered azelaic acid. Until now, that is. So if you’ve never heard of it, you’re not alone.
What on earth is azelaic acid?
Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is naturally derived from grains such as barley and wheat. It’s a gentle but potent ingredient that has recently become available in the market and prescriptions were previously required for purchase, which is why it hasn’t been much of a buzzworthy ingredient before. Often touted as a solution for rosacea-prone skin, azelaic acid is known to greatly reduce inflammation, making it a perfect treatment for sensitive skin types. If your skin is particularly reactive towards common acne fighters, then you should definitely consider this friendlier alternative.
How does it work?
It’s been shown to fight against p. Acnes, the bacteria that’s responsible for creating breakouts. Similar to benzoyl peroxide, it works well against cystic acne as it dives deep into the pores to tackle the onslaught of acne-causing bacteria, thereby inhibiting the growth of blemishes to keep your skin clear. Just like an exfoliating acid, azelaic acid is a natural exfoliator that works to reduce the buildup of dead skin cells, smoothing out the complexion as it prevents annoying whiteheads and blackheads from forming.
That’s not all. This unassuming superhero also inhibits excess production of melanin, so it’s extra helpful in preventing and lightening those dreaded acne scars. Let’s recap: it diminishes acne-cause bacteria, exfoliates for healthier skin cells, AND reduces scarring. We’ve got a triple-threat here, guys.
How often should I use it?
Like other topical blemish treatments, you’ll want to give your skin some time to get used to the ingredient. Start off by using it on alternate evenings before you use it daily. Yes, azelaic acid is a known to be a gentle ingredient, but try not to use it during the day as it has exfoliating properties that’ll leave your skin a little more sensitive to light, and if sunscreen isn’t a part of your daily routine, do your complexion another favour and start shielding it from the sun.
With azelaic acid, it’s best to keep an eye on how your skin responds to it, so you can adjust your frequency accordingly. You can use it right after your toner, or you can mix it in with your moisturiser to prevent any possible chance of irritation. And as usual, if you notice any excessive flaking or feel an uncomfortable burning sensation, stop using the product.

ACTUALLY Goes Down the Balenciaga Route with its New IKEA Collection

Just when you thought that the whole “copying” IKEA fad was done and dusted; here come more fashion goods inspired by the Swedish furniture company. And nope, Balenciaga ain’t the culprit here. This time round, multi-label fashion store ACTUALLY is releasing an exclusive IKEA collection this August 2017.
With help from Russian designer Nikita Gruzovik, the new collection features a medley of IKEA-inspired tees, as well as the clip-on accessory that Rich Chigga made cool again – the fanny pack.

Processed with VSCO with f1 preset

Prices of the collection have yet to be revealed by ACTUALLY, but we’re pretty sure that they won’t cost anywhere near as much as Balenciaga’s infamous “FRAKTA” bag. There are also no details as to how many different types of tees there will be, or whether the collection has IKEA’s stamp of approval.

A closer look at the fanny pack

On another note, Balenciaga isn’t the only brand that’s comfortable with “borrowing” influences from everyday brands, contrary to popular belief. Previously, English fashion designer Anya Hindmarch launched cereal-inspired handbags, while Vetements released a DHL tee courtesy of Gosha Rubchinskiy.
Still, IKEA is a favourite for bootleggers. For instance, an entire Instagram account called @ikeaclothes is dedicated to turning the FRAKTA bag into different pieces of clothing, like bucket hats, belts, and even high-cut shoes reminiscent of Chuck Taylor’s.

Whether ACTUALLY pulls off its latest collection in that same stylish way, or in the cheap but overly-priced Balenciaga way remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure though: the rip-offs won’t be stopping anytime soon.
ACTUALLY’s exclusive IKEA collection will be available at its Orchardgateway store this August 2017.

NYLON Team Picks: How We Fight The Zits

When a breakout hits, be it a solitary pustule or a full on acne infestation, all you’ll want is something that acts, and fast. We’ve all been there, and that’s why we’ve found the anti-blemish solutions that we keep close, ready to be activated.

origins-out-of-trouble
Origins Out Of Trouble 10 Minute Mask
$27, available at the Origins store and counters

How do you refuse a premise like this? Other than how enticing its name sounds, this mask really delivers on its promise. I don’t use much, only on areas where I detect a fresh zit or a potential one, but the moment I spot these, I reach straight for this to quell the problem. The mask spreads easily and never feels too tight after; how it works is that it contains super-absorbent zinc oxide and sulphur to soak up shine, and camphor to purify the skin. However, I must say that it smells… effective. The medicinal scent takes some getting used to. Admittedly, and as a spot treatment, I also leave it on longer than ten minutes (according to reviews, I’m not alone!). What I do love though is how it calms down any sign of redness immediately after, and by morning, I’ll notice that the blemishes are already less visible. After two nights, some have disappeared completely!

paulas-choice-skin-perfecting
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid (Salicylic Acid)
$43, available at paulaschoice.sg

Of course, my pick is one from Paula’s Choice. No surprises there, really. This salicylic acid treatment is one of the more potent formulas in the brand’s lineup, and it’s a bestseller for good reason. Whenever I’m dealing with a nasty hormonal breakout (i.e. deep painful pustules that have decided to camp out along my jawline and overstay their welcome), I’ll reach for this warrior and dab it on my blemishes like a spot treatment or smooth it all over the warzone.
Since salicylic acid exfoliates deep within the pores and works as an anti-irritant as well, it reduces redness and soothes my angry breakouts. Within a day or two, the blemishes would dry up and start flaking off on their own. 🙌🏼 If my skin’s being a little moody in general, I’ll sweep this all over my face before moisturising at night and within mere minutes, my pores will appear less visible and my skin texture much more refined, allowing me to wake up with a clearer, less congested complexion. A godsend.

etude house ac clean up
ETUDE HOUSE AC Clean Up Pink Powder Spot
$23.90, available at ETUDE HOUSE stores

While shopping at Etude House, I noticed a very distinct green-capped bottle with pink powder in it, and I immediately thought of Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion, which Kylie Jenner swore by. It seemed like pink powder was a trend then and everyone was raving about how it does a great job at healing acne, so I decided to get one from Etude House, since it’s definitely going to be cheaper than the drying lotion from Mario Badescu.
I do have acne-prone skin, and most products I’ve tried doesn’t work as well as the A/C Clean Up Pink Powder Spot. I simply dip a cotton bud in the unshaken bottle and get a good amount of the clay-like pink formula that’s soaked in solution, and apply directly to the problematic areas. It dries up fast and I leave it on overnight. You do have to wash your face thoroughly the next day because the pink powder dries up on your face, similar to applying clay masks. The pink powder spot effectively dries up the pus of the zit, and reduced the redness of my pimple, which means I won’t feel the urge to burst it! It makes applying concealers easier as well since there isn’t an obvious bump too. It is so good that I actually cleared the entire bottle. It’s probably time to get a new one soon.
– Phyllis Guo, Editorial Assistant

dermal quench
Kate Somerville DermalQuench Clear Anti-Acne Treatment
$94, available at Sephora

I got the NYLON team to talk about their favourite blemish-fighting products, because I was inspired by the really, really rough patch my skin’s been going through. I do mean a literal rough patch – after unwisely using a product containing mineral oil, I’ve been left with something I found out is called “subclinical acne”. That refers to an acne breakout that manifests in the form of small, colourless bumps, clustered on both my cheeks and forehead.
It’s terrible, and I’m obviously never going near mineral oil ever again. But this has driven me to seek out a fast-acting blemish treatment, and this is how I ended up bringing this Kate Somerville product back into my daily routine. It comes in an interesting format: like a spray can but with an extra-long nozzle sticking out. You press down on the button on the top, and out shoots some white foam with an accompanying fizzing sound. While you can aim the nozzle straight at the offending patch of skin, I prefer to still use my fingers.
Here’s where a word of warning is necessary: this thing smells. Pretty bad. That’s probably due to the sulphur, a common acne-fighting ingredient. But I’m soldiering on an applying this all over the problem areas anyway, because I have seen improvements in my skin: the subclinical acne bumps have been reduced gradually. Which is all I need to put up with the smell, really.

Kylie Jenner's Star-spangled Birthday Collection Will Make You Want It All

By now, you should very well know that whenever there’s a big holiday round the corner, get ready to expect a special collection from Kylie Jenner’s beauty line, Kylie Cosmetics. And since the self-declared King Kylie’s 20th birthday is coming real soon on August 10, the beauty mogul obviously had to launch a birthday collection to celebrate making it through one-fifth of a century (no biggie). We don’t even remember what we did on our 20th birthday.

Last year’s birthday bundle was a smashing success, and we’re guessing this year won’t be any different. Besides, have any Kardashian-Jenner launches not sold out within hours? For her #Kylieturns20 collection, the products are all housed in starry-themed millennial pink packaging, with a touch of glittery shimmers here and there. Her signature dripping lips logo makeup bag also comes in a pretty metallic pink.

So what goes into the special birthday edition? Well, first up, the Birthday Book that is marked with the words “I want it all” at the front, consists of eyeshadow shades, a pink blush and a shimmery rose-gold highlight. The collection also includes two new glosses – Cupcake and Cherry Pie, two new Ultra Glows – King and Queen, and a Birthday Brush Set. There will also be a matte and velvet Birthday Collection Kit, each carrying different shades, a Twenty Birthday Lip Kit, and a limited edition Bedazzled Candy Matte Lip Tube.

The birthday girl herself also created a burgundy-purple look using the products from her own birthday collection, and as usual, she’s killin’ it. If you want to rock the same look as Jenner, you could. But make sure you mark your calendars this coming Tuesday and work those nimble fingers. Fastest fingers first!

Kylie Cosmetics Birthday Collection, available from 1 August 2017, 3pm PST (2 August 2017, 6am SGT) at kyliecosmetics.com.

Here's How To Make Sparkly Jewellery Work Outside Formal Events

So here you are being invited to a formal event or (yet another) wedding dinner — and yet, you don’t wanna spend on an expensive dress. These occasions are plenty but also not enough to justify you dropping a few thousand dollars for a garment. Be honest, somewhere in your wardrobe, you have at least three basic black dresses for these occasions. And how do you change up your look so people won’t be calling you out on your frequent re-wear? Easy! Accessories.
Statement jewellery does wonders in these situations, and when you think crystals and glittery jewellery, you probably have one brand in mind: Swarovski. The problem, in our opinion, is that sometimes the overly luxe and formal pieces don’t work as well without that LBD or flowy gown. However, while in Bangkok to cover the brand’s Fall/Winter collection, we’re led to think otherwise.

JOURDAN DUNN - DESIGN IN THE CITY (12)

RUBY ROSE - GAMING IN THE CITY (4)

Campaign stars Jourdan Dunn, Fei Fei Sun and Ruby Rose take on the Urban Fantasy collection easily in their everyday (though still glammed up) attire, which perfectly ties in to Swarovski’s design codes of modern, laidback glamour. We get jewellery inspired by geometric architecture, hints of digital tint and pixels, as well as quirky emoji pieces that are a fashionable take on our society.
Then, there’s the impressive Remix collection, featuring a series of versatile jewellery strands that you can join together to form a myriad of new pieces — whether it’s a multi-stand necklace, choker, double bracelet, or more. There’s a lot to be excited about, which bring us to this — how you can, just as effortlessly, style your favourite statement jewellery for your everyday attire too. Here are 4 different looks to inspire you:

classicday

Jewellery: Hillock Earrings, Hollow Pendant, Circle Strandage, Vittore Ring, Fisson Ring, Hero Earrings, Crystalline Pure Watch
Look: COS Satchel, Roland Mouret Asymmetric Satin Top, Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Adrienne, Topshop Palazzo Trousers, Zara Satin Slingback Sandals
We’re totally keeping this to a daytime look, and here, we find the sleek circular shapes of the Hollow Pendant and Circle Strandage totally working against a wardrobe of soft, neutral shades. The pieces, whether it’s a pendant or earrings, are subtle, though work in sync due to those clean geometrical elements. Similarly, your outfit should be just as minimalist — this top is unfussy, though with an asymmetric hem for interest, and we’ve chosen jewellery in rose gold to complement the pink flared pants. Top if off with lips in a MLBB shade, and you’re ready to power through the day with ease.
edgy

Jewellery: Fit Choker, Hero Necklace, Halve Earrings, Remix Strands, Hilly Ring Set, Slake Bracelet, Crystaldust Bangle, Fit Bracelet
Look: Junya Watanabe Printed Denim and Faux Leather Jacket, Topshop Vinyl Leggings, Zara Ankle Boots, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in l.u.v.
Ruby Rose was admittedly our inspiration for this look, and we see the silver Remix strands standing out when pieced together, then looped across the neck. Have on a choker as well, this time with black studded crystals for a more edgy vibe. Then, go loud with an arm party: a crystaldust bangle that glitters with an uneven rocky surface can be a main piece, while you add other jewellery around it. As for that ring over there? You can wear it as a two-toned ring, or open it up at the hinge to have them look like two separate ones. Pretty ingenious.
whimsical

Jewellery: Hearty Earrings, Hearty Pendant, Hippy Pendant, Heap Bracelet, Remix Strands, Hearty Necklace
Look: BECCA Cosmetics Light Chaser Highlighter in Opal, Topshop Floral Print Embroidered Midi Dress, Zara Embroidered Ankle Boots
Now then, it’s safe to say that we were particular drawn to the Hearty series of jewellery; whether it’s a necklace, or a pair of earrings, the feathery shapes, teardrop jewels and iridescent colour palettes immediately looks like a dreamy centrepiece for any outfit. You can let it stand out with a plain top, or play around with its multi-toned look by having lots of prints and texture on your outfit too. The embroidery trend works well for these whimsical pieces, and like the rest of the collection, layering your jewellery will make have you look like a daring dresser without you actually trying that hard.
quirky

Jewellery: Homeric Earcuffs, Humorist Pendants, Lovely Crystal Mini Watch, Remix Strands
Look: Topshop Eyelet Wrap Midi Skirt, Bimba Y Lola Top, Etude House Dear Darling Lip Tint in Watermelon Red
Bold colours and quirky prints define this look — hence the bright orange skirt and that top with the cutest graphic cars — so don’t be afraid to take great strides with your accessories as well. Colour clash away! The Homeric Earcuffs are an edgy piece to top the look, plus it doesn’t hurt that it comes in beautiful rich colours, while the Lovely Crystal Mini Watch has a little heart shape that we see matching with the emoji-inspired jewellery that Swarovski has come up with. It’s quite unexpected for the heritage brand, but hey, if they’re gonna embrace the present, we should too.

Upgrade Your Natural Beauty Routine With This Game-Changing Brand

Being an avid follower of natural beauty brands on Instagram, it’s easy to discover new ones through the “suggested” feature on each feed. One I came to know about a few months ago is Kat Burki, a brand that definitely rang a bell, and sure enough, I had previously read an Into the Gloss piece that gave a nice introduction to the eponymous label.

14596848_1812929908989549_995403776594542592_n

Apparently, Julianne Moore and Linda Evangelista are fans, and when huge celebrities are into smaller niche brands, you just know it’s the real deal. The ethos behind Kat Burki is that it’s a step beyond being natural, and it’s something that reflects in its tagline, “raw beauty.” But just because it says “raw” doesn’t mean the ingredients were freshly unearthed or plucked and whisked together in a mixing bowl, it’s because the brand implements Cold-Processing Technology to ensure every ingredient retains its antioxidants and benefits, so nothing is heated over 120°F (that’s approximately 49°C).

kat burki essential radiance

Another reason why Kat Burki’s formulations are so nutrient dense is its absence of water. Instead, the brand uses a trademarked signature blend of actives as an anti-inflammatory base. It works to awaken skin cells, stimulate collagen production, boost microcirculation, and support skin elasticity. In other words, you really can’t find higher potency of a natural variety than with these products. It’s a common process that applies to every product formulation, including its bestselling Essential Radiance collection.
kat burki vitamin c cream

One product, in particular, has gotten shoutouts from beauty bloggers and skincare enthusiasts alike, and that’s the luxurious Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream. If you’re reading this, you probably aren’t new to benefits of vitamin C, and there’s 15% of it in this face cream. It calms and heals as it delivers antioxidants to protect the skin against free radical damage. If you’ve been following our ingredient focus pieces every Saturday, you’ll also be aware of how beneficial mushrooms are in skincare formulas – yes, this has it too. The cream is given an extra boost with the anti-aging wild Reishi mushroom and is blended in with an Ocean Mineral Complex to nourish, strengthen, and brighten. It’s a pretty hefty price to pay ($140 say whaaat), but a little goes a really long way, so if you’re looking to reboot your skin, this is a good place to place.
Don’t worry, you won’t have to purchase these online. Kat Burki is now a part of the Ecoluxury Beauty lineup at TANGS at Tangs Plaza L4 and Tangs VivoCity. Watch the video below to discover more natural beauty brands that are making their way to TANGS too.

An Examination Of Millennial Skincare Lines

“Millennials”. A word you see thrown around with increasing regularity these days, in the form of articles and news reports that scream headlines like “How To Keep Millennials Motivated In The Workplace” and “Why Millennials Can’t Hold Down Their Jobs”, and, we kid you not, “Millennials Are Influenced More By Dogs Than Marriage & Children When Buying A Home” (actual article we just saw).
Similarly, it’s a word we’re seeing pop up more often in the beauty press releases we’ve been receiving from the various brands. Increasingly, the largest beauty brands from around the world are launching skincare lines that they are telling us are “made for millennials”.
What does that mean, though? From what we’ve observed so far, it seems like “millennial skincare” entails products that are, for one, multitasking, because millennials are supposed to be time-strapped with no time for the complicated regimes favoured by the generation before.
Secondly, given that these are products targeted at women in their early to late 20s, focus is less on anti-ageing but more on preventive care. Textures and scents are lighter, because millennials grew up being warned by beauty articles that products should always let your skin breathe easily.

strivectin-nia
nia is the millennial-targeted arm of clinical skincare brand StriVectin, with multi-tasking products that preempt signs of ageing.

Thirdly, and perhaps most crucially, aesthetic value is key. Being a generation that has witnessed the birth and rapid evolution of the biggest social media networks of today, millennials appreciate well-designed packaging – maybe for some, just so it will look good for the ‘gram – but social media influencers, and the visuals they fill all our social feeds with daily, have raised standards for what’s considered aesthetically-pleasing.

laneige fresh calming

LANEIGE’s new Fresh Calming Line is targeted at those in their early twenties, and the bottles are very Instagrammable indeed.

Still, millennials aren’t going to be fooled by a product that’s all looks, and no substance. Rising costs of living accompanied by a persistent gloomy economic outlook globally have trained millennials to adopt a frugal approach to buying beauty; hence $100 creams won’t always cut it, and the drugstore brands are doing so well. It’s not that millennials aren’t willing to fork out the money; it’s just that if they do, the product better deliver.
It is undoubtedly NYC brand Glossier that led the way into conquering the millennial skincare market, getting it right since its inception in 2014 with clever social media marketing, and colouring their product packaging in a particular pastel pink that has become known as the “Glossier pink”, or on a more general scale, “millennial pink”.

Phase-1-set
Glossier’s original Phase 1 set, made up of their first 4 products: a priming moisturiser, face mist, skin balm and skin tint.

More importantly, it was the ethos of the brand that has made it so appealing to millennials: that “skin is in”, and you shouldn’t be hiding your complexion under makeup. By creating pared-down products that focus on getting skin properly hydrated and looking naturally “glowy”, skincare suddenly seems so much more effortless, as well as authentic – and for a generation learning to celebrate individuality and not always hide flaws, Glossier has become an extremely appealing brand.
glossier-skincare
In 3 years, Glossier has grown into a comprehensive skincare selection that includes masks, a cleanser, and serums, among others.

This trend has grown so much that recently, even the established, more traditional beauty brands have entered the millennial market. Shiseido just this month launched WASO, a completely new product line that is rooted in natural, edible ingredients like carrot, soybean and honey. Echoing Glossier, the Japanese brand says WASO is about “championing authentic beauty”, via simple products that are free of “additions, distractions or apologies”.

shiseido-waso-lineup
Shiseido’s WASO line, launched in 2017, includes products like a gel-type lotion, cleanser and moisturiser, and multi-tasking products that function as a day cream, colour-corrector and SPF.

Unsurprisingly, WASO is incredibly photogenic, featuring various pastel tones on minimalist tubes, bottles and jars. It is revealing of how important product design is in reaching out to millennials, that Shiseido has decided to shine the spotlight on WASO’s packaging designers, Mao Kaomai and Akira Muraoka from their headquarters’ Advertising & Design Department. As they explained, including a hole into the caps of the WASO products is “because of the way millennials prefer to use skincare products while doing other things”, so this design element represents “the idea of being able to grab the package and go, or attach it to something else”.
For the millennials willing to spend a little more, there’s Dior Beauty’s Hydra Life, also new for 2017. Dior has always been one of the main players in the luxury skincare market, and the debut of Hydra Life shows that they believe a certain segment of millennials are willing to invest a bit more in their skin. Besides the obviously younger aesthetic, Dior has also taken care to highlight the highly sensorial aspect of its product textures: moisturisers in “sorbet” form, jelly masks, and watery cleansers. All of these serve to convey the notion of hydration, the aspect of skincare that millennials seem to be the most obsessed about.

dior-hydra-life

How Dior has chosen to market the Hydra Life range is also telling: through paid social media posts on the feeds of the most prominent online influencers, because if there’s a quick way to enter the millennial consciousness, it’s via Instagram.

Creating products that are “Instagrammable” isn’t just limited to pretty packaging; increasingly, it’s also about how the products look when applied on the face. This might have all begun with the K-beauty animal sheet masks that were all the rage a few years back – basically, if a skincare product creates a selfie-worthy shot, millennials will want it. That explains why strange Instagram beauty trends pop up with regularity.
Clinique made a smart move by creating the Double Bubble Purifying Mask among the recent additions to their Pep-Start franchise. This goes on as a purple gel, and bubbles into a full face of foam in seconds. That’s something millennials are going to be tempted to post onto Instagram Stories or Snapchat, and the brand knows that so well that they even created a face filter that superimposes an animated mask of bubbles on your selfie, available for download on the BeautyPlus photo app.

From here on out, we’re certain we’re going to have more beauty press releases containing the words “millennials” coming our way, probably featuring packaging dressed up in more iterations of pastels, each line more Instagrammable than the last. As long as brands keep to the direction of nurturing healthy skin in millennials, and continue to be aware that only products of superior quality will do – especially in this increasingly competitive landscape – it’s not a bad trend at all.
After all, for all the bad press millennials get, at least this is one bright spot.

Suit Up With These Chic Puffed Jackets From The Mr. and Mrs. Moncler Series

When it comes to quality luxe sportswear, you know you can count on Moncler to produce some of the most contemporary yet stylish garments, suitable for both the adventure-seeker and sports enthusiasts. With the brand’s transformative use of the original duvet, it has made a name for itself in the fashion industry and is now known for their iconic down jackets. So even if you can’t do sports to save your own life (totally understandable), it’s fine to get yourself one of these just to look stylish. Case in point:

In the Mr. and Mrs. Moncler series, the French-Italian brand is serving up a reinterpretation of their emblematic sportswear by taking inspiration from the rising use of digital technology and the retro cyber-sporty style of a social media addict. The result is a subtle hipster concept that plays on oversized volumes and bright colour choices, which takes cues from multi-coloured mountain equipment, hockey team jerseys, and even the libraries of American colleges. Think calming sky-blue, popping cherry-red, and the striking yet elegant emerald-green for the outer, contrasted against hues such as pale pink, orange, and turquoise that fills the inner lining.

Of course, Moncler’s signature down jackets are still the star of the show. Exclusively made for Moncler, the outerwear is made of nylon laqué which is completely waterproof but still breathable.
Now instead of looking bulky and frumpy when skiing down the snowy slopes, you can look fashionably chic against the backdrop of breathtaking mountains. *cue winds blowing hair*

We Can't Wait To Use The No Filter Concealers From ColourPop Cosmetics

Over the past weekend, ColourPop Cosmetics has been dropping one bomb after another with news of their new upcoming ventures. Just when we all thought the announcement of their first foray into producing concealers was enough to make us happy for the rest of the month, ColourPop decides to be an early Santa by gifting us with more exciting news of their Pressed Powder Compacts and a 12-piece brush set. But ain’t nobody’s complaining because hell yeah, we want more!

According to ColourPop’s Instagram post, the No Filter Concealers are of a “lightweight creamy formula that was created with soft blurring pigments to give you the most flawless matte finish”. Based on all the tutorial videos we’ve watched, it seems like the No Filter Concealers do seem to blend really well, and have a decent coverage that is also buildable. There are 15 shades to choose from and ColourPop promises fans that the concealers are long-wearing and crease proof as well. Since when did we not trust you ColourPop?

Moving on, the brand is also launching a line of makeup brushes to cater to all your blending needs. Previously, ColourPop only had eye makeup brushes, but this time, they are offering fans 12 different brushes dedicated for use on the whole face, ranging from an angled face brush, a fan brush, a tapered blending brush, to a blush brush. They all come with white handles with their logo in silver, and black and white bristles.

In addition, their new Pressed Powder Highlighters and Bronzers will be packed individually and housed in mirrored compacts. The team at ColourPop Cosmetics sure worked hard on this collection, huh?
All of the brand’s latest drops are also extremely affordable, as usual, with the brushes costing between US$5 and US$11, highlighters and bronzers going for US$7 to US$8, and concealers at only US$6 (like whuttt). Just one more day to the release date, July 27th (US time), so make sure you don’t forget to set your alarms for 10am PST (1am Singapore time).
Colourpop cosmetics, US$5 – US$11, available at colourpop.com from 27 July 2017.

Amazon Finally Launches Its Prime Now Service In Singapore — And Here's How It Works

The future’s already here isn’t it? We’ve long embraced, well, gotten used to, all sorts of home delivery apps that send food, groceries, and other items right to our doorsteps — I really can’t live without Deliveroo now to be honest — so it’s no surprise that one of the biggest companies in the world is launching here today: welcome Amazon.
Here to enable our laziness is Amazon’s Prime Now service, a mobile app which offers an ultra-fast two-hour delivery of all sorts of items, from groceries to beer to toys and consumer electronics. Key brands include L’Oreal, Pampers and Samsung, as well as local favourites Milo and Tiger Balm. Can we repeat this, two-hour delivery!

Photo Jul 27, 5 05 31 PM

The company has long been teasing us with its launch, and it looks like they finally delivered on their promise with this first foray into the Southeast Asian region. Prime Now was previously launched at the end of 2014 in New York, and has since expanded to more than 50 cities in nine countries, including Tokyo, London and Madrid. The good news is that Prime Now will be available in Singapore for all to try, for a limited time. After that, it will be an exclusive service for members of Amazon Prime, which will launch soon.
Photo Jul 27, 1 05 58 PM Photo Jul 27, 1 06 05 PM

We can definitely see the convenient service working for busy individuals, when you’re planning large-scale or last-minute events, or if you’re just too lazy to leave your house. Can you imagine getting chips delivered to you on a whim, or not having to lug your six-pack of beer cans home? Of course, we did a little price comparison of our own and found items to be same across its competitors — a 6-pc set of Milo packets costs $4.25, and costs the same on RedMart, Cold Storage and FairPrice.
A quick check on the app also sees many product categories. The food section alone goes from fruits & vegetables or dairy & eggs, to frozen food, bread, snacks, and wine or alcohol that you can get delivered chilled. Other categories include household essentials, toiletries, electronics, home appliances and toys.
As for that speedy delivery time? This is how it’s done.

It’s possible due to a sophisticated back-end system, where staff pick and pack orders within minutes of customers hitting checkout, says Ivan Lim, site leader at the Prime Now hub. He also elaborates that this is supported by “advanced techniques and algorithms to fulfill orders as quickly and efficiently as possible”. Processes include random stow, batching and machine learning.
A quick tour of the Amazon Prime Now facility site reveals this — rows and rows of items, where, instead of being alphabetically listed, are tucked away randomly in their cubby holes, a system that the company has found more efficient. After customers place their orders, Amazon employees, or “pickers”, will be sent out to retrieve the item, using a handheld device that smartly detects the nearest item, and the fastest route by which to collect that item.
Photo Jul 27, 11 58 13 AM

Photo Jul 27, 11 44 36 AM

We’re told that the AI system is also smart enough to adapt to customers’ preferences and demand over time; for example, it might now be hard to determine the quantity of water bottles each customer usually orders, but over time, they’ll be able to get an estimated quantity, which then helps reduce delay when it comes to replenishing and ordering stock.
That’s some eye-opening insight we got from the largest global Prime Now facility, a 100,000-sq-ft facility based right on our tiny island. Does this spell the extinction of physical supermarkets, and should other groceries delivery services be threatened by this new colossal arrival? For sure, Amazon’s here to shake up the industry, but let’s see if they actually deliver.

Download the Prime Now app, available on iOS and Android devices. Prime Now is available 10:00 to 22:00, seven days a week. Prime Now offers free two-hour delivery on orders of $40 or more. For orders under $40, two-hour delivery is $5.99. Customers can also get their Prime Now order with one-hour delivery for $9.99.
Shop using your Visa credit card will receive $20 off your first Prime Now order using promo code VISA20, or, key in 10PRIMENOW to get $10 off your first order.

Lenovo’s Making a Foldable Tablet That Doubles Up as a Smartphone

When it comes to making crazy gadgets, few companies out there beat Lenovo.
Case in point: the Chinese tech company is currently in the process of developing a new foldable tablet that also functions as a smartphone, as unveiled at its annual Tech World event last week.

Called the “Folio”, this Android device starts off as a regular tablet, but when folded, it flattens into a 5.5-inch smartphone. It seems like a pretty neat concept, especially for folks who’d prefer to just carry around one item only instead of both a tablet and smartphone.

But that’s all the Folio is at the moment; just a concept – there’s no guarantee that Lenovo will release this as a legit consumer product. But if that does happen, customers can expect the gadget to have specs like a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 1920 x 1,440 resolution, and Android 7.0 Nougat.
To be honest, it does look a little clunky when folded, as can be seen from a video uploaded by YouTube user
Kim Poh Liaw:

Also, this isn’t the first time a foldable device has been mooted by major companies. Samsung has in the past filed a patent for a foldable smartphone, while OPPO has been developing the same technology for the past few years as well.
One thing is for certain though: if the Folio becomes a reality, it might just save plenty of people a lot of money in the long run.

Our Editor's Roundup Of Must-Buy Beauty Launches

By Adele Chan
The following items are all surprising discoveries. I didn’t think I’d like any of them, but as it turns out, they have become my favourites and I’m now using them every day! Here are my recommendations for new beauty products to check out (and buy!) in the coming months:

shu-uemura-fresh-tint

SHU UEMURA STAGE PERFORMER FRESH TINT ALL-IN-ONE HYDRATING UV CUSHION, SPF 38 PA++++
$68, launching 1st August 2017 at shu uemura stores and counters
Available in 3 shades: Sand, Beige, Deep Beige
This is shu uemura’s latest cushion compact that’s only going to hit counters in August. When this was introduced to me, I was told that the coverage is very sheer — barely any coverage at all. It’s supposed to simply enhance skin and make it just look like an improved version of itself. The first time I tried it, that was my expectation — a sheer finish. But wow, this cushion actually results in a soft, velvety matte texture; very surprising and even more satisfying. When I pat the cushion (the brand emphasised it’s a high quality cushion) on my skin, I can see my skin’s texture transform before my eyes; it gets more smooth, pores disappear, and unwanted shine gets toned down into a subtle glow. What’s funny is that this cushion was presented to me together with the upcoming Lightbulb Essence liquid foundation, which is touted as one of the brand’s flagship base products (and that I’m sure shu uemura is expecting to perform really well at the counters)… but I’ve tried both products and I’m putting my recommendation behind the cushion. Its only downfall is that shades are extremely limited. There are just three in total: Sand, Beige and Deep Beige; and if you’re outside of this spectrum, tough luck.

esprique-gel-pencil

ESPRIQUE GEL PENCIL EYELINER IN JET BLACK
$32 (refill at $15) at KOSÉ counters
Available in 2 shades: Jet Black and Natural Brown
This was such a pleasant discovery from Esprique. Esprique isn’t a “loud” brand in Singapore; I hardly see any advertising from them, and no one really talks about any of their products. So to be honest, I wasn’t expecting this pencil eyeliner to be anything but ordinary…which makes this discovery even more delightful. The first time I glided this tip across my waterline, I was amazed at how easy it was to draw with this pencil; the formula came out super smooth and pigmented. In fact, I didn’t need to draw over it to get an intense line, and even more impressive, it lasted the entire day without smudging. I love that it comes in the form of a refillable cartridge that I can bring around by itself without the holder. This is the best pencil eyeliner I’ve tried in a while — beating out my usual favourites from shu uemura, YSL and Charlotte Tilbury.

crabtree-evelyn-goatmilk

CRABTREE & EVELYN GOATMILK GENTLE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
$30 each, at Crabtree & Evelyn stores
When Crabtree & Evelyn launched their Goatmilk Hand Wash last year, it was the first time that I was in love with a hand wash. The product smelled comforting…like a baby, and made my hands clean and smooth. They got their formula right again with the new hair collection — the shampoo and conditioner have that same relaxing fragrance, and makes my hair immediately super soft without weighing it down. I can really feel a difference each time I use these products. Good to know: the collection only uses free-range goat’s milk that is sourced from a family-run farm in Pacific Northwestern USA, Mount Capra.

benefit-boiing-airbrush

BENEFIT COSMETICS BOI-ING AIRBRUSH CONCEALER
$35 at the Benefit store and counters, and Sephora
Available in 3 shades: Light, Medium, Deep
I really have to hand it to Benefit… when they launch something, they go big. In the case of their new concealers, they launched four different types, each in three shades (that’s 12 new concealers!). And I hardly bother with new concealers because I believe I’ve found the one with clé de peau beauté’s stick concealer (it’s so good, but this post is about Benefit). Back to Benefit… their new concealers were so adorable (they are packaged like erasers!), I had to try them. The one that was impressive was the Airbrush Concealer; it has a soft texture that blurs and smooths the skin, creating a soft-focus effect. The product claims to be waterproof, and doesn’t crease, cake or crack — and so far so good… I use this mainly below the eyes to “erase away” my dark circles, and it actually works really well. It could be that the product name is influencing me to imagine that my skin looks airbrushed, but who cares… this concealer seems to be doing its job and I’m happy with it.

la-prairie-skin-caviar

LA PRAIRIE SKIN CAVIAR ABSOLUTE FILLER
$960 for 60ml, launching 1st September 2017 at La Prairie counters
La Prairie is not typically a brand that people we know use (do you know anyone who uses La Prairie?). The prices of their skincare can’t even be called expensive; it’s ridiculous. But you know what’s more ridiculous? Consumers. Luxury skincare like La Prairie exist because there are people who are willing to pay for it. And in all honesty, I wouldn’t even go near the brand if I wasn’t a beauty journalist and given the products for review. I was handed this blue jar when one of the NYLON writers came back from the press event; “It’s very rich”, she said. So I was expecting a cream that was rich like butter, and maybe even oily; but surprise, surprise… the white cream is silky smooth and absorbs quickly into skin, leaving behind a comfortable, slightly tacky feeling on the skin. And because my skin has recently been feeling rather dehydrated because of travel and the flu, this moisturiser is a godsend. It’s just been five days since I’ve switched to this cream as my night moisturiser, and I’m absolutely loving it. I wake up to super soft skin and all my pores appear to have shrunk. The jar itself is also very clever; there’s a mirror in the flip top lid and it’s such a simple thing, but it’s so smart of the brand to include it. It’s proven to be the most useful thing on my night table now — I reach for this jar every time I need a mirror. Also, the cream is dispensed just a little at a time with a reverse pump — very hygienic and it gives excellent control as to how much product you want each time. I’d completely recommend this product if your skin is dry and you can afford it.

This Foundation Puts a Literal Glow Filter on Your Face

We honestly don’t know how she does it, but Huda Kattan is quite possibly the most successful beauty blogger to helm her very own makeup brand. Since the initiation of Huda Beauty, the world of liquid lipsticks, lip pencils, highlighters and falsies have never been the same. She’s someone who understands the challenges and knows the tricks to taking a perfect selfie for Instagram, and now she’s back to render your photo filters obsolete with her latest lineup of foundations.

The beauty guru gave us a little sneak peek of her new #FauxFilter Foundation via Snapchat back in December 2016, and she teased us earlier again this year in February, confirming the collection would carry more than 20 shades. Can we get an amen? Given her inclusive approach to makeup, it’s natural to expect a much wider range of shades that’ll help colour-match those with darker skin tones. We know for a fact that her fellow muslim beauty bloggers and loyal customers will be proud to hear about this.

So far, we’ve got a preview of its packaging, but she hasn’t locked down an official launch date yet. She described her product as one that gives super full coverage, but still looks like skin, and even showed us a couple of shade swatches. By the looks of that before and after evidence, we’re pretty sure these foundations will fly off every shelf they’re stocked on, so ready your wallets, guys.
While we’re waiting for those to drop, take a dip into these few bits of makeup that offer similar photo-filtering capabilities. Of course, there’s 3 varying textures and finishes for you to choose from.
