This New Line Of Sneakers From Skechers Is Looking Really Familiar

Recently, Skechers released their new line of casual footwear that is looking a lot like Kanye West’s Adidas Yeezy Boosts and the internet is straight up calling them out. But seriously bruh, these shoes are a total rip-off and if Skechers were to refute this and defend themselves, no one’s gonna have it.
Plus, this isn’t the first time Skechers has been accused of plagiarising other brands. They came up with one that looks almost like a replica of the classic adidas Stan Smith shoes, and another one that had an uncanny resemblance to the Nike Flyknit Air Max. However, one shouldn’t be acting all holier than thou especially if Zara is one of your go-to shopping havens, because just like Skechers, Zara is also known for copying designs straight from fashion runway shows.

Named the “Modern Joggers”, the sneaks sports a “soft SportKnit mesh fabric upper in a slip on lace-front casual sneaker oxford with nearly seamless design and Air Cooled Memory Foam insole.” We believe the SportKnit is the equivalent of Yeezy’s zebra knitted upper and the orange side panel taking the lead from the lateral “Solar Red” striping from the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 “Beluga”. Other models that also have similar-looking Yeezy designs are the “Mersey” and “Synergy 2.0”.

If you’re really low on budget, we guess this could be your alternative. But don’t say we didn’t warn ya, you might be getting lots of stares.

The Vans x Thrasher Collaboration Is Finally Coming True

The Vans x Thrasher collaboration is no longer just a rumour . In fact, it’s coming to a Vans store very near you. While Vans and Thrasher have achieved mainstream success among non-skateboarders (we’re pretty sure legit skateboarders are actually annoyed with that), we can’t deny that their products do have a swagger effect that makes for a solid streetwear look. But honestly, there’s nothing wrong with wearing the same ol’ classic Old Skool Sneaks and the highly recognisable Thrasher tees with everyone else. It’s comfortable, easy to match with and…cool, basically.

FA17_Skate_Thrasher_ElvCollection_Group2

FA17_MAP_Thrasher_VN0A36KZBLK_CardielLS_Blk_ElvFlat

With Thrasher magazine being referenced as the “bible” of skateboarding, and Vans being one of the most sought-after action sports footwear brand, it’s only natural that the two link up for a collection. And as you might have expected, this collection will be featuring a lot of the ubiquitous Thrasher flames logo on classic Vans staples. After all, this collection is in celebration of Thrasher Magazine’s irrefutable heritage and reputation, so what better way to do so than commemorating the Thrasher flames logo, which has been present since 1981 (a fun fact for all you non-skateboarders)?

The signature orange flames will be emblazoned across the full line of apparel that consists of hoodies, t-shirts, jackets, caps, accessories, and footwear. There will also be a special tribute to Vans skateboarding legend, John Cardiel, who won the 1992 Thrasher Skater of the Year Award, with a cover art of him embellished on premium long sleeve tees.

Besides the obvious choice of including the “flamified” version of the classic black Slip-ons that will sell for $99, the footwear range will also include 4 other classic Pro Skate models – another Slip-On Pro model also coming in at $99, the all-new UltraRange Pro that is retailing for $169, and two Sk8-Hi Pros that will cost $129 each. All the sneaks utilises Vans Pro Skate technology with UltraCush Lite and UltraCush HD sockliners, DURACAP-reinforced underlays, and waffle gum outsole for the base.

And by saying they will be available at a Vans store near you, we mean you should be glad they are actually launching in Singapore as well. So although you will not find them at outlets like JEM or Jurong Point, the collection will be available at Vans ION and VivoCity, with Bugis+ selling only the apparel.

Why Wasn’t this Star Wars Landspeeder Around When We Were Kids?

Kids these days have it good. Real good. Young ones born in recent years will never know the frustration of not being able to use the Internet and your landline at the same time, while screens are immediately being ‘swiped’; a reflex action brought upon by a generation of smartphones.
And yes, toys are becoming super advanced too. One good example: Radio Flyer’s brand new Landspeeder that’ll let little tots zip around like how Luke Skywalker did on his X-34 in Star Wars: A New Hope.

This teeny bit of awesome comes with everything that you’d expect a legit Landspeeder to have. It’s got colour-coded dials, a little stick shift that moves up and down, and even “scrapes” and “faded paint” on its bumper to show that it’s been through a bit of action. The only thing is that it just doesn’t hover.
realistic-front

Still, you’d pretty much want to stuff your adult butt in this. That’s the only real issue with this Landspeeder though, because you can’t. This cute device carries a maximum weight of 58kg and is built for a maximum of two kids – toddler-sized, mind you – and an adult would probably crush it to the point of no return.
RadioFlyerSpeeder01

Yep, this toy came twenty years too late in our books. If you want to score it as a gift for your kiddo, do be warned; it’s going to be very pricey.
Right now, the Landspeeder is available for pre-order at the T oys “R” Us’ website for a mind-boggling price of US$499. Get it however, and you’ll either have many memorable Star Wars-filled afternoons to come, or for the childless, a long time staring at it in your living room.

Remembering Chester Bennington: All of His Best Quotes

By Joel Conceicao
Amidst the flurry of news articles and status updates surrounding Chester Bennington’s death, one point stuck out like a sore thumb: the man was too young (and too good) to go. If ever there was a voice that spoke to an entire generation, Bennington was its sole proprietor.
Yes, there have been others who’ve inspired. But the Linkin Park frontman belonged to that rare breed of musicians who brought together people regardless of their music affiliations, whether they were teenyboppers who only listened to radio friendly hits, or head-bangers who had a taste for the hard and heavy.

His mellifluous yet angst-driven vocals, coupled with Mike Shinoda as a catchy rap foil, gave millions all over the world an outlet to express their anger in ways like never before.
As for me, I was never a particularly angry kid growing up. But I do remember being drawn to Chester’s voice the first time I heard it; just like how two opposite poles of a magnet snap together. It was raw, fresh, somehow bone tingling, and remarkably different from the top 40 CD’s my parents used to buy. I loved it.
19488680_10155386849586788_8842770634595862049_o

That was the kind of influence Bennington had on people, myself included. I remember once being on this road trip to Kuala Lumpur on a party bus with strangers, and “In The End” came up. Next thing you know, everyone sang in unison, even though we all didn’t really know each other.
In that moment, the song became an anthem, a common tune for a generation lost in the mire of a digitised world where social media cripples instead of socialises. It was what you would call a ‘uniting force’, which makes the loss of Bennington more cutting, more real than older musicians that have gone before him.
19143217_10155321480461788_7775784452869330760_o

19143960_10155331326486788_1818188467354166799_o

But despite all his obvious musical achievements, there was another side to Bennington not many people know about, and that was his thoughtful, and quite often, brutally upfront opinions. The man was known to speak his mind, and his words will be forever immortalised, just like how his songs will continue to touch our hearts long after he’s gone.
Here are some of his most colourful quotes:
“If we look outside ourselves to find love and peace we will ultimately fail. It has to come from within. Lead by example.”
“Out is the best. Holding s*** in? That’s really what ‘Heavy’ is about. Like, ‘What the f*** is going on with me? What am I doing to myself? What am I allowing others to cause inside of me to keep me stuck?’ That moment that you can separate yourself from the action or behaviour or circumstance and look at it and see it for what it is, you’ve made that first step in separating yourself from that and getting out of that.” —March 2017 interview with Rock Sound
“Let’s all choose to be a part of the cure.”
“What do you think of people who say you sold out? I don’t care. If you like the music, fantastic. If you don’t like it, that’s your opinion too. Fantastic. If you’re saying we’re doing what we’re doing for a commercial or monetary reason, trying to make success out of some formula… then stab yourself in the face!” – May 2017 interview with Music Week
“Someone asked why I don’t sing scream about teen angst anymore? I said because I’m 41.”
“I like things that are loud and beautiful and feel like there’s a sense of accomplishment.” —May 2017 interview with Billboard
“Sometimes life delivers you a shit sandwich and you just have to EAT IT.”
“I had no idea I’d been such a nightmare. I knew that I had a drinking and drug problem, and that parts of my personal life were crazy, but I didn’t realise how much of that was affecting the people around me until I got a good dose of ‘here’s-what-you’re-really like.’” —2016 interview with The Fix
“After I blew kisses to the guys flipping me off. They smiled and gave me heart hands back.”
“The idea that success equals happiness pisses me off. It’s funny to think that just because you’re successful you’re now immune to the full range of the human experience” – 2016 interview with TeamRock

The company held a bag design competition last June, with the theme of ‘Rediscovering Singapore’, a concept that’s synonymous with Found MUJI – where people are encouraged to discover the underlying values behind items that are either symbolic in the past, or prevalent in the present.
The top five winners of the competition will get the chance to have their bags displayed at MUJI’s new Plaza Singapura store, with each bag selling for $10. But more importantly, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Cancer Foundation.
If that isn’t a good reason to snap one up pronto, we’re not sure what is.
Learn more about MUJI: “What is MUJI?” Exhibition
Without a doubt, MUJI is one of the great design brands of the century. The Japanese retail company has stayed true to its ethos of creating low-cost, good quality products since its inception in 1980, a feat that deserves to be applauded, and replicated throughout the world.
If you’d like to learn more about what makes them tick, the company will be holding a special exhibition titled “What is MUJI?” from 21 to 30 July 2017, 10am to 10pm, at the Plaza Singapura Main Atrium, Level 1.

Meet the Brow Product That's Splitting the Internet in Half

Brows are arguably the most important features of the face. They frame and define, capable of changing an expression entirely with just a few sprouting brow hairs. Some of us are blessed with a set of dense brows at birth, but some of us aren’t that lucky (thanks genetics), and attempting to get them right opens up a whole other can of worms.
We here at NYLON are suckers for a good brow, which is why we’ve even given you a crash course on brow styling. Yup, we’re that passionate about them. From eyebrow embroidery to brow tints and even brow wigs, we’re always searching for new ways to shape our arches, ready to risk it all in the name of better-looking brows. Needless to say, when we heard about the i-Envy Brow Stamp, we sat up straight, ready to receive more information.

ienvy stuff

Brow stamps are exactly what they sound like – they’re stamps in the shape of brow arches. Similar to brow tints, they’re a pain-free alternative but are less permanent. To use, you have to rub the stamps into a powder that’s included in the kit before you press them onto your brows. It’s a process that supposedly takes up six seconds, claiming to give you full, flawless-looking brows when the time is up. And from these few trials, it sure looks like a pretty effective tool for getting those brows on.

Seems a little too good to be true, right? Well, it is. Others have also taken to the Internet to upload videos documenting their disastrous attempts with the i-Envy Brow Stamp. Lining the stamp to fit an entire brow poses a huge challenge in and of itself, and a stamp method won’t allow you to control the opacity, so don’t expect a lovely ombré effect with this tool. A powder formula isn’t exactly the best if you’re looking to get a natural finish. It does quite the opposite, in fact. Also, a one-size-fits-all brow stamp? Not happening. Brows come in varying shapes and lengths, so this is one hell of an ineffective solution.

These unlucky individuals ended up spending more time cleaning up the chaos that ensued than just drawing them on as they would normally would. Yikes. Perhaps you shouldn’t be taking shortcuts when it comes to this part of your makeup routine. We know we’ll be sticking to our tried-and-true brow heroes instead.

Our Special Edition July Issue Is Out, And Here's Why You Should Pick Up A Copy

Our #52 special edition July issue is out, which means the long wait for the unveiling of Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 is finally here! Maureen Wroblewitz has managed to defeat all odds and climb her way up to the top of the show, and here she is now, gracing the cover of NYLON Singapore’s special edition issue, photographed by our Editor-in-Chief, Adele Chan.

#AsNTM cover (high res)

In this issue, Maureen shares with us her arduous journey as she fights to be the top model on the show, as well as a glimpse into some of the most beautiful holiday and Instagram-worthy islands of her home country, the Philippines, alongside the up-and-coming cafe scene in and out of Manila. You’d want to hop right on the next flight there over the weekend.

maureen

Loyal viewers of ASNTM will be thrilled to know that there is so much more than just the weekly photoshoots and petty catfights that you see on-screen. Our cover girl Maureen spills the details behind what actually goes on behind-the-scenes, and how she’s managed to overcome the various obstacles — including being called “just a pretty face” — put in her way and rise to the top.

The Philippines is really more that just their capital city, Manila. Well, not that Manila isn’t exciting; in fact, Maureen has compiled a comprehensive list of five of her favourite cafes there. But should you want to expand your horizons, she takes us on a ride to some of her favourite islands of her home country — which includes the gorgeous islands of Boracay and Baler.

If you’re ever looking for a trusty travel guide while planning your trip to New York City, we’ve go you covered — from luxurious accommodation that’s well worth every penny, to recommended places to dine (and snack) as well as things to do. The Big Apple is truly a bustling place to be. We also managed to shoot a fashion spread there, as well as a Marc Jacobs beauty shoot. Talk about a fulfilling trip!

And to keep in theme with our issue of Models, we check in on the various Asian models who have been making waves on international runways. Come in close, as we delve into the back stories of these up-and-coming models, which includes the likes of Fernanda Ly, Rina Sawayama and Neelam Gill.

Say, if you’re always having problems nailing that perfect Instagram shot — you know what we mean — the tasteful flatlays, the sultry selfies because your cellphone can’t seem to snap pictures that are IG-worthy, rest assured it’s not you, it’s your phone. That’s right, they say beauty can be found anywhere, but they missed out on the part where a quality tool is needed to capture fleeting (or posed…) shots. Here we played with the OPPO R11, together with Hanli Hoefer, where we created those shots that you see on your friend’s curated IG feed. And all right in the backyard of our humble office.

We’ve been pining for the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette for the longest time ever, and we most definitely want to dip our eyeshadow brushes in it, pronto. Here, Mae Tan shows us the versatility of the palette, bringing us from a casual everyday look, to a full-blown smokey cat eye.

But wait — before you rush off to grab a copy, we also have installed, a shopping guide to look like an actual mermaid-on-land; just ask our model Aimee Bradshaw-Cheng! She shows us how to rock an easy peasy mermaid-on-land look, with and without the tail. Be forewarned, there’s going to be lots of glitter, lots of sequins, and lots of fun.

A Guide To Getting Your Eyeliner On Point

What’s in a good eyeliner? Off the top of our heads, these basic requirements: doesn’t smudge, and doesn’t melt off our faces before the end of the day. Other than that, it can be quite subjective – some like it matte, while others like it glossy; some like the tip ultra-fine, while others might be more comfortable with a slightly thicker one to draw on bolder lines. And of course, some prefer alternatives to the standard black, such as brown, or even blue.
No matter your preference, what we continue to stand by is this: the best eyeliners are found in the drugstore. Of course, the luxury brands have some very good ones indeed, but our point is that you really don’t have to pay more than $25 for a solid eyeliner. Especially so when it’s a product that you’ll be reaching for almost every day.
hypersharps
Today, we want to talk a bit more about an eyeliner that’s been a drugstore favourite for a long time now: the Maybelline Eyestudio Hypersharp, which started with the now-iconic Hypersharp 0.01mm liner, but has now expanded into a range with a few different types of Hypersharps to meet different eyeliner needs. And we all have different eyeliner needs here in the NYLON office – so below, different ways to make your eyeliner work for you.

Look 1: Ultra-thin line

hypersharp 0.01 tip

You just want a bit of definition, so you need an eyeliner with a fine tip to subtly enhance your eyes. The classic Hypersharp 0.01mm Liner has a tip that’s, well, 0.01mm, making it easy to create thin and precise lines with the brush applicator.

chelsea_eyelinertutorial_0001_2
Start lining from the inner corners of the eyes.
chelsea_eyelinertutorial_0002_3

Staying close to the upper lash line, slowly line all the way to the outer corners. Extend it into a slight flick at the ends if you wish.
chelsea_eyelinertutorial_0005_6

Look 2: Intense black line

hypersharp powerblack tip

There’s black eyeliner, and then there’s really black eyeliner. The Hypersharp Power Black Liner is made with micro-carbon pigments that absorb light, to create standout, graphic lines that make an impact. The 0.05mm brush tip remains easy to control.

syiqin_eyelinertutorial_0002_3
Line the upper lashlines, also starting from the inner corners of the eyes. Don’t be afraid to draw on a thicker line, especially in the centre of the eyes.
syiqin_eyelinertutorial_0003_4
Extend the line slightly beyond the eyes.
syiqin_eyelinertutorial_0005_6

Look 3: Winged line

hypersharp wing 1 hypersharp wing 2

Ah, the eyeliner wing. The thing that causes you to have to spend all those extra minutes trying to balance both sides of your eyeliner some days. You could use strange aids like eyeliner stencils or scotch tape, or you could just use an eyeliner that makes winging it easier, i.e. the Hypersharp Wing Liner. It has a flat tip brush that creates a 0.01mm point on one side, and a 2mm one on the other, handy for drawing in the wings.

tami_eyelinertutorial_0001_2
Use the thin end of the eyeliner tip to line eyes as usual.
tami_eyelinertutorial_0002_3
Using the flat tip of the eyeliner, draw in the wings in an upwards direction.
tami_eyelinertutorial_0003_4
To add extra definition to the wing tip, use the thin end to extend the wing slightly.

American Eagle Outfitters’ 2017 Back-to-School Collection Will Have You Looking Too Cool for School

School may be out and the Summer holidays are finally kicking in, but hey, it’s never too early to have some outfits ready when school reopens. American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) is back with their latest collection – the Back-to-School Collection, this time a throwback to the 90s, revolving around the themes of “Ballet Grunge”, “Street Active” and “New School”. In addition, AEO is introducing another denim series – the “All New American Jean” – to match with pieces from the collection. Offering high-quality jeans is the core of AEO’s brand, so it’s not surprising that they have came up with a whopping 45 unique styles. How can they come up with so many different cuts just for jeans? Well, AEO is here to prove that it’s almost impossible not to find a pair of jeans that will suit any body type.
As you can guess from the name of the women’s line, Ballet Grunge mixes feminine and edgy, kinda exuding Cara Delevingne vibes, the supermodel who really embodies grunge with sophistication oh so well. Master the “Cara look” with some of the key pieces from the collection which includes floral embroidered blouses (lots of florals in this collection to bring out your inner flowerchild), studded denim jackets, band tees, lace-ups and cold shoulders blouses or opt for the varsity-inspired jackets and tops for the preppy schoolgirl look.

You can never go wrong with a white top and ripped jeans combo

For the men’s Back-to-School selections, AEO is bringing back trends made popular in the 90s’, namely the Ivy League athletics and cool casual styles based off the rebel youths of Gen Y. Dig through your dad’s old trunk of clothes and you’ll know what we mean. Think patchwork button-down shirts, bonded fleece, windbreaker jackets, preppy tees and acid wash jeans. Choose from a variety of streetwise options from their men’s Street Active collection or look like the ultimate 90’s kid with the New School collection.

The Balmain x Beats by Dr. Dre Headphones Are A Blessing To Our Ears And A Burden To Our Wallets

Whenever Olivier Rousteing has a fashion show to run, we’re confident that you are bound to see the Kardashian-Jenner clan taking the front row seats, dressed in the most extravagant and heavily embellished haute couture gowns we’ve ever seen. Because other than his deft craftsmanship, his razor sharp facial features and his cheek-sucking selfies, he’s also known for his wide connections and close relationships with Hollywood’s hottest celebs. So when Balmain announced that the brand will be tying up with Beats by Dr. Dre, it’s no surprise that he turned to Kylie Jenner to be the face of the campaign.

In this special edition collection, both Rousteing and the Beats by Dr. Dre team re-created the Powerbeats3 Wireless and Beats Studio Wireless, centered on the concept of an urban safari. The former is a plug-in earpiece while the latter is the classic over-ear headphones made famous by Dr. Dre, with each model coming in two colourways – Safari, a tan peachy brown colour, and Khaki, a military green.
According to Beats by Dr. Dre, “the Safari and Khaki colours represent the natural feel of the desert and the lush landscape of the jungle, while metallic gold accents bring on added level of elegance and luxury.” And while they do look luxurious, the price tag definitely is. With exactly the same functions as the existing versions and no added features, these Balmain-ified gadgets retail at twice the price of the original ones, with the headphones costing US$599.95 and the earbuds costing US$249.95.

Both the earbuds and headphones allow for hands-free action with the help of Bluetooth technology and can last up to 12 hours. The Beats Studio Wireless headphones also comes with a dual-mode Adaptive Noise Cancelling feature, while the Powerbeats3 Wireless allows users to get an hour of playback with just a short 5-minute charge when the battery is low. And to match with the extravagant price you pay for the techies, each model comes with a coordinating suede case decked with a Balmain plaque and a symbolic Balmain coin zipper pull.

Samsung Launches the Galaxy S8 in Coral Blue

Samsung has been on fire lately. The company, fresh from dropping the Galaxy S8 in millennial pink, as well as reviving the flip phone with the Galaxy Folder 2, has yet another gorgeous colourway in store for fans in Singapore – meet the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in coral blue.
The new colour variant, which joins the current options of Maple Gold, Midnight Black, and Orchid Gray, is inspired by nature; with its design quite obviously based on the ocean. Samsung claims that the new colour scheme ‘radiates tranquility and calm’, while ‘exuding stylish sophistication’ at the same time.

We’ve got to admit though; the whole ‘coral blue’ vibe is a pretty good look for the Galaxy S8 series, a sleek gadget that sports a bezel-less, infinity edge-to-edge display. It also meshes nicely with the phone’s smooth glass surface, giving it a classy appearance that makes an already good looking phone even better.
If you can’t wait for the new Samsung Note 8 to launch later this August, this is one phone that you should definitely consider getting. Do be warned though; it’s going to be very pricey.

Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ current colour range

Right now, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ is retailing for $1,148 and $1,298 respectively at local telecommunication operators, major consumer electronics stores, authorised mobile retailers, Samsung Experience Stores, and Lazada Singapore.
For clumsy folks who drop their phones all the time, you might want to check out these tough cases for the Galaxy S8 series, so your heart won’t feel so pained after spending all that dough.

We Saw The Future Of Retail In This Taobao Cafe

A couple of weekends ago, we were in Hangzhou for the Taobao Maker Festival, where we were inundated with plenty of weird, wonderful things available for purchase on the e-commerce site. At the festival, there was something else that was quite magical as well:
taocafe-2
taocafe-1
Yup, a Taobao cafe that incorporates F&B with retail, basically a hardcore Taobao shopper’s dreams come true. This Tao Cafe was actually a pop-up at the Taobao Maker Festival, created to showcase the Alibaba Group’s “cashier-less” retail experience.
How that translates into a shopping experience is this: the customer starts by opening the Taobao app on his smartphone and using it to scan a QR code at the Tao Cafe entrance, which then generates an electronic pass to grant him entry into the store. He can pick up whatever he wants to purchase in the store, and to check out, all he has to do is walk through a payment corridor that automatically detects the items, and deducts the cost from the customer’s Alipay account.
As for the cafe portion, Alibaba has removed the need for counter staff by basically powering the whole ordering process with voice and facial recognition. Order your food and drinks by just speaking what you want, and the fancy technology will process your order, deducting money from your Alipay account automatically.
Here, China’s People’s Daily put the Tao Cafe’s auto-checkout technologies to the test:

All of this probably feels a bit familiar – if you heard about Amazon Go at the end of 2016, Alibaba’s technologies on display at the Tao Cafe are very, very similar. While Amazon promised to roll out their cashier-less stores in the USA in early 2017, that has since been delayed, and news reports state that Amazon Go is reportedly still in the internal beta testing stage, and not ready to be launched to the public yet.
The Tao Cafe, on the other hand, was very much available for public testing during the Taobao Maker Festival earlier this month. While Taobao isn’t about to start opening a bunch of cafes and physical stores, the whole point of this pop up was to show the world that the company has figured out how to make shopping truly checkout-free, and they seem to be a lot ahead of the game as compared to the West.
What does this all mean? To us, it means that the future of retail is already found in China. From a few days’ worth of observation while we were in Hangzhou, cash or credit card is no longer the main mode of payment for Chinese citizens – most pay for their purchases with Alipay, Alibaba’s online payment platform that keeps the process to a quick scan of a QR code. There’s no longer any need to bring your wallet around.
Further digitising the retail process with these artificial intelligence and data technologies seems like the logical next step for Alibaba then – it’s just that the company has brought us all into the future a lot sooner than anticipated. Amazon better step up its game.

Karl Lagerfeld's Larger Than Life In These Upcoming Fall/Winter Collections

Okay honestly, as much as we all aspire to own a Chanel, or to be there at one of Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic runway shows, you know that unless you’re prepared for a major splurge, the chances of having one you can lovingly stroke is pretty low. Now the creative director of both the esteemed fashion houses of Chanel and Fendi is certainly an icon, and we’d part with good money to have one of his designs — it’s part of history! — but we’ll let you in on a secret… You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars for that. Say hello to the KARL LAGERFELD collection, every bit as lovingly designed, and cute to boot, since the ready-to-wear apparel and accessories all pay tribute to the signature look of your favourite designer (and his cat!).

Team Karl Shopper, $53Team Karl Pouch,$259Karl The Photographer Backpack, $569

The KARL LAGERFELD Fall/Winter collection will be available exclusively at Robinsons The Heeren, in three separate drops. The first, called KARL THE PHOTOGRAPHER, is a capsule collection that’s part of the brand’s Pre-Fall collection, and is inspired by the man’s love of photography, a “hobby” that sees him avidly photograph plenty of fashion icons and personal muses. Here, we get a contemporary cartoon figure of Karl and his famous cat, Choupette, in various playful graphics that depict them in the middle of some serious phone photography, across all kinds of accessories that include totes ($539), pouches ($259) and t-shirts ($179).
Team Karl Choupette iPhone 7 Case, $49Team Karl iPhone 7 Case, $49

What’s truly fascinating is that this iPhone case is priced at $49, while you can drop $569 for a sturdy backpack.
Karl Photographer Minaudiere 01, $299

There’s also this adorable Karl Photographer Minaudiere ($299) to consider, for the next time you’ve invited to a grand event, or you know, everyday life if you like some sparkling glitter in your wardrobe.
K Ikonik Face Crossbody, $426K Ikonik Karl Minaudiere, $316K Ikonik Shoulder Bag, $469

As for these classy cuties, they’re part of the KARL IKONIK collection that will be out in August. Lagerfeld puts a playful twist on a crossbody bag ($426) that prominently features his face and holographic sunglasses, another minaudiere ($316) you ought to own, and a shoulder bag ($469) that’s more minimalist though with his handwritten signature in metallic silver. All the pieces see a sophisticated black-and-white palette pulled together with silver accents and appliqués, which make them something to covet.
K Ikonik Weekender, $699K Ikonik Passport Holder, $56K Ikonik Cap, $99

There’s stuff you’d wanna take with you on your next flight out too, including a roomy weekender bag ($699), passport holder ($56) and a cap ($99).
K Metal Signature Shoulder Bag, $769 K Paris Micro Tote, $369, K Paris Shoulder Bag, $599

Next month will also be when selected pieces from the mainline drop — these include accessories from the KARL LAGERFELD Fall/Winter collection, which are more subdued but also slightly more timeless than the other drops. We get a nice play on black/white contrast with the K Metal Signature Shoulder Bag ($769), that has Karl’s signature in glossy metallic hardware, while the K Paris Micro Tote ($369) and Shoulder Bag ($599) reference the City of Love with glittery patches and subtle rock-star hardware. See what we mean? None of these items cross above the $1,000 mark, and yet, you know you can definitely wake up to a bit of Lagerfeld by your side.
