How To Wear The Urban Decay Naked Heat Without Looking Like You Have Sore Eyes

The Urban Decay Naked Heat palette has obviously been our makeup obsession of the month. Since the time we could finally speak of it early last month, we haven’t stopped ogling the 12 brand-new warm shades, and even explored 4 different ways to wear them.

3605971553936_naked_heat_alt1

Still, we would say this might be the trickiest Naked palette to navigate so far. It’s a marked departure from the champagne and rosy hues of the first 3 Naked palettes, and even the fourth Naked Smoky contained cooler, darker shades that felt more familiar, as far as eyeshadows are concerned. The Naked Heat, however, is a full-on warm palette that embraces the terracotta and burgundy eye colour trend – which makes it a bit scarier to try, especially for the eyeshadow newbies.
But we’re here to make sure you don’t end up looking like you’re nursing a bad case of the sore eyes, so we went straight to the UD expert: meet Amanda Rodriguez, Artistry Manager at the UD HQ, which means she’s obviously the right person to ask when it comes to Naked palettes, and all things UD. If you follow the brand’s YouTube channels, she’ll be a familiar face as she often creates short video tutorials, like this latest one for Naked Heat:

The look she rocks here is great, and we love how she used the orangey 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Torch especially. But it’s undeniably a daunting look for a beginner, so, what magic can she work for someone who’s attempting warm hues on the eyes for the first time, and isn’t exactly a blending pro?
“For a beginner, and for someone who is a little bit of a wallflower when it comes to makeup, I would say maybe stick to the liners,” says Rodriguez. “I would say stick with just applying to the upper lids and lashlines, not below the eyes.”
Of course, we had to make her to a demonstration for us. First, start with the basics: Eyeshadow Primer Potion (but of course), and base shades from the Naked Heat palette, namely Ounce under the browbone, and Chaser all over the lids to set the primer.

ud naked heat 2
Then, line the eyes with the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Alkaline, a deep wine. Keep the colour close to the lashlines.
ud naked heat 3
Blend out the eye pencil with a fluffy eyeshadow brush (you can use the one that comes with the Naked Heat palette). Do so until the colour extends about halfway up the lids.
ud naked heat 4
To add more warmth, apply the shade Ashes from the Naked Heat palette, a deep reddish-brown matte, over the centre of the eyelids.
ud naked heat 5

And that’s all it takes to achieve this gorgeous sunset effect!

While watching Rodriguez create this look, we expressed surprise that she was using the darker shades from the Naked Heat collection, which was the last thing we’d expect for a look that’s classified as “beginner”. “I didn’t want to be obvious,” she explains. “And I wanted girls to see that they can go dark, and not to be scared of it.”
ud naked heat 7
The completed look – just add a slick of peachy lipstick.

Rodriguez also shared this super handy trick you can get out of your Naked Heat palette: “One of my new favourite things is using Lumbre, He Devil and Dirty Talk, mixing them all together, and applying it as a blush.” Cue a collective “Ooooooh” from everyone in the room, because that’s honestly quite a genius way of getting a flattering terracotta blush.
And with that trick, suddenly the Naked Heat has become the most versatile palette out there.

Why This Gorgeous Skincare Line Comes At Just The Right Time

We’re done with the first half of 2017 – yes, insane, we know – and how are you faring so far?
As quickly as time has gone by, the relentless busy-ness of daily life has wearied us out a little, if we were to be honest. This, coupled with the erratic weather of the past few months, has made our skin kinda crazy by this point. Here’s how this might have manifested: skin that’s oily on the surface, but actually dehydrated on the inside. Basically, it’s been thrown off-balance.
What we need at this mid-point of the year, is to relax, reset, and to regain some balance.

laneige-gif-tryout-1

That’s why the launch of LANEIGE’s Fresh Calming line came at exactly the right time. Not just because the millennial pink packaging is right on trend, but because it does just as what its name says: refresh the skin, and calm it down.
As you can see from our adorable little gif above, the main ingredient is lychee – more specifically, natural litchi extract from lychee peel. The magic of this ingredient lies in the polyphenol it contains, a chemical compound that’s rich in antioxidants. This means the skin is soothed from the damage it has sustained, by the emptying out of irritants from all the fine particles and UV rays in the environment it has been exposed to over time.
And as a soothing skincare product has to be one that is high on the moisturising factor, the Fresh Calming Line makes sure hydration goes deep with the inclusion of mineral-rich deep sea water. This generates handy little things called Natural Moisturising Factors within the skin, allowing the skin to naturally sustain longer-term hydration by itself.

The Fresh Calming Line is a compact, uncomplicated one, with just 4 essential products. A gel cleanser, a hydrating toner that you can soak a cotton pad with and gently pat on to immediately soothe the skin, a lightweight gel serum, and a unique Morning Mask that comes in the form of an airy mousse. It contains the highest concentration of litchi extract out of all the Fresh Calming products, and is meant to be used as a lightweight moisturiser, applied right before sunscreen. It also works as a primer, helping your makeup to stay on the skin better.
All the formulas in the line are also 4-free, which means they’re free of the following ingredients:
Toner & Serum: Free of oil, animal ingredients, synthetic pigments, and triethanolamine
Morning Mask: Free of mineral oil, animal ingredients, synthetic pigments, and triethanolamine
Gel Cleanser: Free of mineral oil, animal ingredients, synthetic pigments, and sulfate surfactant

The end goal: a complexion that’s as pure and even as the lovely Lee Sung Kyoung’s. We’re making that our goal for the second half of 2017, with our new favourite millennial pink skincare line to aid us along.

Here's Why We Need The Gucci x Coco Capitán Special Collaboration T-shirts

You know how some people who just don’t make use of their common sense in certain situations and you just can’t help but shake your head? We’re talking the incredibly annoying ones who stop abruptly at the end of the escalator, and the even more infuriating ones who barge into the train cabin when not one alighting passenger has even taken a step out. Yeap, we’re pretty sure many of you can relate. Well, wouldn’t it be great if a t-shirt that says “Common sense is not that common” existed and we could wear it in situations like these? Oh wait, it does exist and it’s hitting Singapore shores very soon.
After unveiling its very own home décor line, Gucci is on the move again. Creative Director Alessandro Michele is back to designing fashion pieces and this time, he is collaborating with the talented young Spanish artist, Coco Capitán. Known for her signature handwritten witty aphorisms, short scribbles such as “Common sense is not that common” and “What are we going to do with all this future?” are written across graphic t-shirts, hoodies, tote-backpacks, and belt-bags.

First seen at the catwalk presentation for Gucci’s Autumn/Winter’17 womenswear collection, Capitán’s work also appeared on a wall at the entrance of the show space and on the show invitation cards. Taking a bow at the end of the show, Michele was also seen wearing a T-shirt featuring one of Capitán’s slogan: “I want to go back to beliving a story.” The misspelt words and naïve-looking handwritten messages add a touch of innocence to the unisex collection, which features Gucci’s signature green-red-green Web stripe and gold interlocking GG motif.

Yes, that’s right. You read correctly. Each dish costs 50 freaking cents each (with higher denominations for bigger portions). But if you think that is still too good to be true, well, let us tell you that it’s not. The event, which is happening from 29 to 30 July, will feature an exhilarating range of nostalgic dishes that’ll satisfy your every foodie desire.
Want to munch on Char Kway Teow? No problem. Got a craving for Oyster Omelette? The 50 Cents Fest has got you covered. But more than just providing good and cheap food, the event is actually a retro throwback to the glory days of 80’s Singapore, and will feature a variety of classics from that era in a lively bazaar setting.
Check out last year’s festival below:

For instance, you’ll be able to savour old school dishes like the UFO (Fried Oyster Cake), Orh Nee, Hokkien Rickshaw Noodle, Hakka Abacus Seed, Teochew Ah Balling, and Kong Bak Pau, while there’ll also be other local favourites up for grabs like Laksa, Mee Goreng, Satay, Chicken Biryani, and Salted Egg Yolk Crab.

What’s cooler though is that the décor for the festival will be set up in an 80’s style fashion, with a myriad of exciting games and performances to catch. Whatever the case may be; if you’ve got a classic case of the munchies, or you’d just simply like to eat your weekend away, this is one event not to be missed!

Staz Lindes Gives Us A Lesson In Effortless Beauty

When we met YSL Beauty ambassador Staz Lindes in Tokyo recently, all we wanted to do was copy her eyeliner.

Check out that double-ended cat eye – we think we found our new eyeliner goals. Tip: a liquid liner with a thicker nib, like the YSL Beauty Couture Eye Marker, would easily help nail a look like that. You really only have to dare to try.
We had to try hard to pull our eyes away from those fierce eyeliner flicks of hers, and focus on talking about those lips of hers. That full pout reminds us a little of Angelina Jolie, and that overbite of Hannah Murray (of Game of Thrones and Skins fame), and it’s for sure Lindes’ defining feature. These lips are currently being used to sell one YSL Beauty’s most famous makeup products, the Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres glossy stain, which sees a shade expansion this month.

So who is Staz Lindes? Here’s her story: “Staz” is short for Natassia, she’s the offspring of Hal Lindes, who played guitar for British rock band Dire Straits during their heyday in the early 80s. At the age of 15, she was scouted in a California bowling alley and signed as a model. Like her dad, she strums the guitar for her own band, named The Paranoyds, and early last year, at the age of 24, she clinched the very major deal of becoming the new face of YSL Beauty.

staz lindes 2

Which leads us back to our conversation with her in Tokyo, where she’s sporting a glossy crimson lip that keeps catching the light nicely (it’s the Vernis à Lèvres Vinyl Cream in #409 Burgundy Vibes – we had to ask). With her tousled blonde do, rocker-chic uniform of black blazer over white shirt and denim miniskirt, and statement-making makeup, it’s evident that her beauty routine is not one that takes hours in front of the mirror to do, but probably just a few compact steps in under 10 minutes before she’s out the door, looking as fine as she does here.
“I love just doing a SPF, and then moisturiser, and then a BB cream or something. Really minimal,” she tells us. “I focus on really clean skincare. I cleanse, then tone with apple cider vinegar, before I put a serum and then a moisturiser. Then I’ll do a tint, like a BB cream diluted with another moisturiser.”

Skincare options from YSL Beauty to copy Staz’s regime: the Blanc Pur Couture UV Protection, Forever Youth Liberator Serum, Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow, Top Secrets BB Creme

Since getting signed with YSL Beauty, of course she has learnt some new tricks from the experts of the brand. “I’ve also started using the Touche Eclat, I really like it. I just do a few dots under the eyes, then I’ll blend it, then I’ll do around the nose. It’s just really good when I look bad,” Lindes says with a laugh.
Ah, we’ve all encountered the magically face-awakening powers of the Touche Eclat for ourselves at some point or other. That, with an almost-bare face, a smear of eyeliner and a statement red lip is just about the most effortless kind of going-out look there is, one that works for an everyday aesthetic as well (Lindes is a believer in making your “everyday look” work for a night out too).
As for what else is in her makeup bag, the list includes the Full Metal Eyeshadow in a coppery brown, the Couture Kajal liner in black, mascara, and 4 different lip colours at one time. “I love the Baby Doll Kiss & Blushes, those are really nice translucent or thick. Definitely have the Rouge Pur Couture in #1, another one in pink, and maybe a darker red lipstick too.”

Colours to replicate Staz’s look: Full Metal Shadow in #7 Aquatic Copper, Couture Kajal Eye Pencil in #1 Noir Ardent, Baby Doll Kiss & Blush, Rouge Pur Couture in #1 Le Rouge.

Gwen Stefani On Her Personal Beauty Heroes and Biggest Hair Regret

She’s just a girl, but Gwen Stefani is a mighty talented one who’s constantly staying ahead of the curve. When she’s not busy touring the world, picking up another Grammy Award, being a vocal coach, designing clothes, tending to her children, and creating an animated TV series for kids, the singer-songwriter taps into her other major interest: beauty.
Gwen’s image is one that’s largely tied to a bright red lip, but needless to say, she’s never been one to shy away from experimental makeup looks throughout her music career. A beauty rebel, no doubt. Now, as Revlon‘s newest Global Brand Ambassador starring in their Choose Love campaign, Gwen Stefani proves to be the perfect modern-day icon for our generation. We stole a few moments from her busy day to find out why beauty occupies such a special space in her heart.

Do you remember your first-ever purchase from Revlon?
As a little girl, going to the drug store and going down the makeup aisle was one of my favourite things to do, ever. I remember my first purchase was a lipstick. It might have been the Super Lustrous Lipstick in “Cherries in the Snow”.
Your identity is synonymous with red lipstick. Can you tell us why it’s your colour of choice?
I don’t really know why I love red lipstick so much. I think it’s quite glamorous and makes a bold statement and makes me feel unique.

How did your interest in beauty begin?
My interest in beauty began by watching my beautiful mother when I was a little girl, putting on her makeup and it was just a natural interest in to beauty.
Were there any other individuals who helped shape your beauty identity?
I think my love for red lipstick probably came from my love for old Hollywood and Hollywood glamour and seeing images of Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow and anything vintage. I think the first time I wore red lipstick was when my grandmother gave me for Christmas, a multi-colour lipstick tube of all different colours and there was a dark, almost like a burnt red – a really deep red and I tried it on. I remember exactly where I was. I was sitting in my car, in the driveway and I put it on in the rear view mirror.
Are there any beauty tips or tricks you’ve picked up from your music career?
I think I’ve learned a lot about foundation and highlights and different kinds of shading you can do. These are new tricks that I’ve learned in recent years.

From your very first gig to your most recent performance, how would you say your look has evolved? Any beauty regrets along the way?
I would say I haven’t changed much. I think I do things that make me feel confident and good. Through the years, I’ve worn light lips, red lips, and my whole thing is about exploring new looks and to hold on to ones that work for you. Probably trying a chemical cut has been the craziest thing that has ever happened – when my hair fell out during the Tragic Kingdom tour and consequently experienced short hair for the first time without a choice.

All The Disney, Marvel And Star Wars News That Made The Internet Go Crazy

You’ve heard of the D23 Expo, the weekend event that’s a celebratory fanfest of presentations, panels, and most of all, stuff that gets the Internet buzzing: all the big reveals on Disney’s slew of upcoming films, games, and events. By now, you must have seen brief snippets of it on your social media timelines, but in case you’ve been missing out, here are the most jaw-dropping, possibly tears-inducing, and definitely fist-pumping news we’ve heard, in order of our excitement:
1. Marvel

A post shared by Marvel Entertainment (@marvel) on

Avengers: Infinity Wars
We honestly thought we’d be talking about Star Wars, really, especially since the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi is due this December, but it was clear that Avengers: Infinity Wars stole the show — prior to their San Diego Comic-Con panel too (22 July).
This time, we got a huge, um, assemble of the cast members, and that’s a lot of them by the way. It started off pretty low-key, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige introducing Josh Brolin (Thanos), followed by a couple more members including Don Cheadle (War Machine) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), and then, the newer members of the Marvel franchises, Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man), which brought along more fanfare. After that came the heavyweights — Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Robert Downey Jr. (Ironman). Obviously, everyone in the room was in a frenzy by then.
Finally, director Joe Russo came on stage to give the audience a retrospective look back at the last 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before the truly exciting stuff: straight up, it’s the first-ever trailer of this mega-crossover instalment, which, unfortunately has not yet been released to the public. What we have are incredibly vivid accounts though. Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy finding none other than Thor, lost in space. Back on Earth, it starts off suspenseful enough, with cut scenes that include Peter Parker on the move and his Spider-Sense tingling… which marks the first time he’s on screen as part of the Avengers even, and features his fancy new suit. And there’s a lot of intense fighting, with Loki and the Tessaract, Doctor Strange and Thanos battling, with the Infinity Gauntlet by the way. The fighting is described as larger-than-life, with nemesis Thanos being as formidable as we’ve seen him so far.
We also got confirmation that next February’s Black Panther will set up the events of Avengers: Infinity War, out 4 May 2018. That means two movies out before June hits us! Fingers crossed that we’ll all get to see the new footage when Comic-Con comes around.
TL;DR

  • New Avengers: Infinity Wars trailer, not yet released to the public
  • Avengers: Infinity War, out 4 May 2018

2. Star Wars

A post shared by Star Wars (@starwars) on

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
At the Star Wars slot, director Rian Johnson took the stage with Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose), Benicio Del Toro (DJ) and Laura Dern (Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo) to discuss the movie, though of course the crucial plot details were still kept secret. Boyega reveals Finn has a major fight with someone in the film, and quickly looks over at Christie. What a tease. Later, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) joins the panel, which leads to this touching behind-the-scenes footage (lots of General Leia):

And up next, posters! Rey’s in a captivating Jedi-like cloak, General Leia looks absolutely regal with her high collar and jewellery, while it seems Finn’s still borrowing Poe’s jacket, and these are done highly stylised. They certainly look great as a collector’s item. The fact that they’re painted red though, traditionally Sith colours, could hint at something more sinister… Could they be trying to find balance in the Force, will there be some revelation on the Dark Side, or can this all be a red herring? We’ll find out soon enough when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres on 15 December this year.

A post shared by Star Wars (@starwars) on

Star Wars at Disney Parks
Ah, the next big reveal. There was plenty of new info about an entire Star Wars land that sounds very much like a Westworld — over the weekend, Disney announced more details for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, where guests will get to visit “a remote trading port on the edge of wild space”, an immersive experience that will be at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2019. Other than encountering familiar faces such as BB-8 and Chewbacca, or things like trying out blue milk at the cantina, what we’re truly excited about are the rides/attractions. Yes, we’re talking plural here. One of them’s supposed to make you feel like you’re on a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay, and the other will have Star Wars fans swooning. You’ll get to fly the Millenium Falcon, doing a Han Solo basically, and that means piloting and shooting blasters at the same time, or preparing the ship for hyperspace — plus, it’s a mission that actually tests your skills, so you’ll earn galactic credits at the end of that. There will also be a Star Wars-themed resort at Walt Disney World where you get to become “a citizen of the galaxy”.

TL;DR

  • New Star Wars: The Last Jedi behind-the-scenes video — movie out 15 December 2017
  • New Star Wars: The Last Jedi posters
  • Details on Star Wars theme parks and resort — called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

3. Disney’s Live-Action Films

Following the success of The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, it looks like Disney’s strategy of turning its animated classics into live-action films is finally seeing a breakthrough, which means we’ll be treated to a whole lot of upcoming films, including Aladdin, Dumbo, and The Lion King.
Aladdin
Well, we already know that they’re doing an Aladdin remake, and the studio confirmed their lead actors, namely Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Mena Massoud as Aladdin, while Will Smith will be playing the Genie. The location Agrabah is said to be a vibrant, cosmopolitan city inspired by various eras from the Middle East.
Dumbo
Another big reveal was that they’ll be producing a live-action Dumbo, with director Tim Burton behind the helm. Filming in London is already underway, and it will star big names that include Colin Farrell (Holt Farrier), Danny DeVito (Max Medici), Eva Green (Colette Marchant) and Michael Keaton (V.A. Vandevere). Dumbo will be out 29 March 2019.
The Lion King
What we’re truly captivated about, and the world too, is this: The Lion King. Heck, we even got our dream casting list somewhere in our heads (Simon Pegg as Zazu, anybody?), but this time, we may put those to rest. Director Jon Favreau is back in the fold, and word is that we’ll get a similar feel to his earlier effort in The Jungle Book, basically a stunning CGI and motion capture-heavy process that will see the animals walk and talk as realistically as possible.
What was unveiled though had everyone close to tears — at least, we will be if we were there. Just for the audience (ugh), they got a shot-by-shot recreation of the original’s memorable opening scene. Yes, that moment on Pride Rock that sees Rafiki triumphantly lifting Simba towards the sky, the scene you’ve recreated a hundred times from your humble bedroom.
As for the casting, here’s what we know so far: James Earl Jones (Mufasa), is back to reprise his role in the original, Donald Glover (Simba), Billy Eichner (Timon), Seth Rogan (Pumbaa) and John Oliver (Zazu). Note that there’s so far no confirmation on Hugh Jackman being cast as Scar. The Lion King is slated to hit theaters on 19 July 2019.
Mary Poppins Returns

We know that Emily Blunt will be playing Mary Poppins; the new intel though is that the film will continue the story in London two dozen years after the original film. Michael Banks is a widower trying to raise his children, and Mr. Wilkins (Colin Firth) at the bank is giving them trouble. This will be a story for the new generation, we’ve heard, and of course, Blunt adds an interesting nugget: she only watched about 15 minutes of the original before stopping. “No one is going to ‘out Julie Andrews’ Julie Andrews,” Blunt says, as the talks about making the role her own.
A Wrinkle In Time
Who hasn’t read this sci-fi classic? If you haven’t, do pick it up — it’s quite a fast read, and very entertaining as well. And before the movie, please. Director Ava DuVernay came on stage with the cast to talk about the movie: “It’s a family story wrapped in an epic adventure where you see worlds you’ve never seen before”. What we know is that Storm Reid will be playing Meg Murry, the girl at the centre of the tale, and will be accompanied by Chris Pine (Mr. Murry), as well as Whatsit, Who, and Which, played by Resse Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Oprah Winfrey respectively. The movie will be released 9 March 2018. Watch the trailer here:

TL;DR

  • Aladdin casting: Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Jasmine), Will Smith (Genie)
  • Dumbo directed by Tim Burton, starring Colin Farrell (Holt Farrier), Danny DeVito (Max Medici), Eva Green (Colette Marchant) and Michael Keaton (V.A. Vandevere) — out 29 March 2019
  • New The Lion King footage of opening scene; starring James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Donald Glover (Simba), Billy Eichner (Timon), Seth Rogan (Pumbaa) and John Oliver (Zazu) — out 19 July 2019
  • Mary Poppins Returns will continue the story in London, 24 years after the original — out 25 December 2018
  • New A Wrinkle In Time trailer — out 9 March 2018

4. Disney’s Animated Films
Toy Story 4
We’re not 100% on board… especially since John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, and DisneyToon Studios, will no longer be co-directing the film, but hey, that’s a chance for John Cooley to shine solo, and perhaps give the film the focus it needs. Toy Story 4 is scheduled for release on 21 June 2019.
Wreck It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet

WIR2_FirstLook_2040

This sequel will see Ralph leaving behind the world of video games and now getting used to the World Wide Web; at the event, directors announced new character names Yesss (Taraji P. Henson) who’s an algorithm used to power a viral news site Buzzaholic — this obvious dig clues us in on the show’s intentions, how it could potentially be a hilarious and cutting commentary on the Internet, and us. There was even a scene reveal that dared to poke fun at the Disney princesses — Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) is basically put in the same room as the other Disney heroines, from Snow White and Ariel to Moana, and like the best of webcomics, discuss their problematic past. An animated movie that’s witty and smart? Well now. Ralph Breaks the Internet will be out 21 November 2018.
The Incredibles 2
Um hello, everyone loved The Incredibles right? We honestly haven’t met a person who doesn’t have anything good to say about the Pixar-favourite film, which is why it’s about time we got a sequel. First up, a hilarious tribute from the fashion world to the film’s most unexpectedly lovable character, Edna Mode.

It’s amazing how they got so many voices to weigh in, but anyway, the point is that the audience got to see new footage from the film, as well as cast members Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, and Samuel L. Jackson on stage. Today’s technology has enabled the film and its characters to be more expressive and realistic, says director Brad Bird, before unveiling a scene where baby Jack-Jack battles a poor raccoon with his superpowers. On top of the newfound animation prowess, the scene is said to be as lighthearted and hilarious as the original. The Incredibles 2, out 15 June 2018.
TL;DR

  • Toy Story 4 — out 21 June 2019
  • Wreck It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet, new characters and new footage shown — out 21 November 2018
  • New footage of The Incredibles 2 screened — out 15 June 2018

3 Ways Disney’s Star Wars Hotel Will Let You Experience The Force Like Never Before

Ever wished you could live in a movie?
Yep, we do too. Reality gets boring pretty fast, which is why we’re super excited for Disney’s brand new Star Wars-themed hotel that’s scheduled to open in 2019 – with the space being set up as an “immersive” concept where you become a character yourself.

The idea for the hotel, which was floated in a survey by Disney, is meant to be part of the company’s launch of its new Star Wars theme park at Disney World in Florida (also in 2019). But while details are scarce at the moment, there have been more than a few hints on what fans can expect at the new hotel. Here are three of the most exciting:
1) All employees will be in costume
AT D23 EXPO 2017, DISNEY PARKS CHAIRMAN BOB CHAPEK ANNOUNCES NEW STAR WARS-THEMED HOTEL FOR WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT -- During D23 Expo 2017, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek announced plans to create the most experiential concept ever in an immersive Star Wars-themed hotel at Walt Disney World Resort. Dedicated entirely to the galaxy of Star Wars, it will be a one-of-a-kind experience where a luxury resort meets a multi-day adventure in a galaxy far, far away.

Picture this: you’re walking in the lobby and you bump into C-3PO. Or you’re checking into your room and the bellboy is Jar Jar Binks. It is this exact level of interactivity that Disney is planning for its guests to enjoy at the new hotel, by dressing up all its staff in Star Wars gear from top to bottom. Of course, you’ll be wearing a costume too, adding to the illusion of living in a galaxy far, far away.
2) Each guest will get his or her own storyline
As a guest at Disney’s Star Wars hotel, you’re part of the whole narrative the minute you check-in. That means you’ll be able to participate in developing events alongside characters from the films. These include ‘secret missions’, lightsaber duels, and even spacecraft piloting programs. But what’s cooler is that no two people’s experience will be the same, as everyone has their own individual reactions to the storyline.
3) Your room’s view will be the magnificent wonders of outer space
starwarshotel2

What’s living the Star Wars life without a view of the cosmos? Fans will be pleased to know that each room’s window opens up to the vast scope of outer space, as the hotel will be shaped like a high-tech spacecraft that’s ready to go into overdrive at anytime. There’ll also be other cool amenities like a pool area, water park, and fitness centre, a ‘cantina’ for food & drink, as well as droids doubling up as butlers. Sounds very promising, indeed.
stormtroopers

Ultimately, if the green light is given for the hotel to be built, there’s no question that it would raise the bar for interactive entertainment facilities all across the globe, and not just in the hotel industry.
That said; staying here is not going to come cheap. Right now, prices quoted for a one-night stay range from US$900 to US$1000 per person. This includes all meals and admission to the theme park, but you’ll only be allowed to stay for a maximum of two-nights.
In the meantime, if you’re itching for some Disney fun, you can always check out ‘Pandora – the world of Avatar’ in Disney Florida’s recently opened Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

KFC Now Has Its Very Own Apparel and Home Decor Line

Not long ago, we heard about the very unlikely collaboration between KFC and Chinese smartphone maker, Huawei, teaming up to come up with KFC’s very own smartphone that came in a striking red colour, featuring Colonel Sanders on its back. Well, that was only just the beginning.

In a bid to promote their Zinger chicken sandwich, KFC made a video announcement that they are launching their Zinger chicken sandwich into space, stating that “their entire marketing campaign depends on it”. While we are not sure if they are really going through with the plan, it probably explains why their latest project includes many space-inspired items in their fashion and home décor collection that is available now at KFC Ltd.

That’s right, KFC created an apparel and home goods line to go with their finger lickin’ good chicken. And we must say, they do look super cute! From socks printed with fried chicken drumlets all over, to a pack of adorable Kentucky fried enamel pins, and to a bright orange sweatshirt that says “Fried Chicken USA”, we didn’t know KFC had a thing for fashion. And can we talk about their Zinger 1 Mission Patches? It’s literally their Zinger burger in a transparent capsule launching into space embroidered on a red-rimmed patch. It will totally be a cute addition to any bomber jacket or denim backpack that will get your friends talking.

Their most expensive item on the site? You’re so not ready for this. It’s US$20,000. Only a true Zinger fan will actually purchase it (or not). The one-of-a-kind Zinger Meteorite is made from a real meteorite from space that has been through the harsh elements and then later sculpted by three artists to transform it to the hamburger it is now. The meteorite looks pretty legit and the details are quite on point too. But is there a huge fan out there who is actually game enough to purchase it? We’re talking about exchanging 20K for a non-edible meteorite burger…

It’s legit, guys

Other items include picture frames of a bucket of fried chicken and Colonel Sanders, a Zinger wrapper blanket and a pillowcase. In addition, for every item listed on the site, there is a step-by-step manual on how you can make the items the hard way created by the witty marketing team.
kfc how to

To our surprise, the collection is actually doing well with almost half of the items on sale already sold out. So you better hurry if you want to join in the fun. Sadly, it seems like the collection is only available in the US, so a parcel forwarding service might have to be employed.
KFC Ltd Apparel and Home Goods, US$1 for a “World’s No.1 Chicken Salesman” T-shirt to US$20,000 for a Zinger Meteorite (we’re not even sure if KFC is trolling everyone), available now at kfclimited.com.

Moschino's New Makeup Line Is Bear-y Cute Indeed

Flexing his quirky prowess yet again, Moschino‘s creative director Jeremy Scott has teamed up with Sephora Collection to create the brand’s first-ever makeup line. In what appears to be the most exciting beauty news of the year thus far, their sweet collaboration will be launching seven pieces next month in Sephora stores all over America.

Jeremy Scott has his arms wide open for anyone who wishes to join the Moschino family, so affordability has been a goal since day one. And since his fun and offbeat designs are favoured by the younger generation (i.e. us millennials), the fresh makeup line would serve as a welcome party for those who haven’t been able to afford its pricier offerings.
Here’s what we know about the collection: it’ll include a teddy-bear-shaped eyeshadow palette, which we hear is going to be the size of a child’s toy; a smaller eyeshadow palette; a gold-toned necklace that holds a bear-shaped lip gloss pendant; a compact highlighter, lip shades, a bear compact mirror, as well as a bear eye mask made with plush faux-fur. These items are just downright adorable and perfect for anyone who’s a fan of Moschino and Jeremy Scott.
With that said, it’s fairly obvious why can’t wait to receive good news of this new collection being launched in Singapore. If we ever get the deets, you’ll be the first to know.

Live Out Your 'Game of Thrones' Fantasy At These Amazing Places

Winter is coming — oh wait, it’s here — and over at the NYLON office, some of us couldn’t be more excited. Because, seriously, we’ve gone past the books and into the great unknown. People have died to make things happen. People have been brought back to life to make things happen. So bring on the dragons, White Walkers and murder plots, because Game of Thrones will be back on our TV screens in… less than 24 hours?! Okay, okay, we’ll chill out. After the very fun meals you can get delivered to your home while you’re watching the first episode, and once you’ve finished unpacking its mysteries, you can head over to the HomeAway site for this: a list of Game of Thrones-inspired vacation rentals totally look like they belong in the world of Westeros. Time to make holiday plans, and escape the dark treachery of the series perhaps? Our only gripe: having to fly on an aeroplane and not off the back of a majestic dragon.
Winterfell

Ah, the home of our beloved Starks. This will certainly be a stark contrast to your humble abode though because we’re talking about a magnificent castle in France that has the tall towers, and somewhat gloriously gloomy vibes, of House Stark, complete with centuries-old stones and candlelit pathways, perfect for a company of up to 14 guests. Of course, you won’t have to contend with direwolves (to our disappointment) or a sorry state of living conditions; instead, you’ll get to live like a King in the North with modern amenities like Wi-Fi and washing machines. Now, imagine if the Stark siblings had Wi-Fi so they wouldn’t feel lost in the world… whatever it is, don’t do a Bran and go hastily scaling the walls. Or, just don’t do a Bran, ever.
Riverrun

At this point, we’ll never consider joining in the treacherous Frey, but hey, his imposing fortress makes for a home like no other. The actual listing here is a Victorian mansion in the United Kingdom, which houses 14 bedrooms, modern amenities, and comes surrounded by woodland — kinda what we imagine the Frey household will be like if they did a crossover with Disney. We’d gladly host special occasions at this stunning locales, though um, we’re not too sure about weddings…
Tower of Joy

All the hardcore GoT fans heaved a sigh of relief — and joy — after this particular episode aired. Behold, the scene that confirmed a thousand fan theories: where Ned Stark fought his way through some of Raegar Targaryen’s best men, including one spectacular Ser Arthur Dayne, in order to come face to face with a dying Lyanna Stark who proceeds to whisper a secret that her Stark brother promised to protect. Oh, and there’s a baby too. We don’t know why the Tower of Joy marks this tragedy, except for George R. R. Martin’s love for irony, but here, you get to live in a historic tower house that mimics the lone architecture seen in the show. Located in Roaring Water Bay, Ireland, it stands at over 500 years old, but was last restored in 2000, with the medieval elements and original building materials kept intact so you can discover its mysteries for yourself.
Storm’s End
1200x600-The Storm’s End Castle

Recommended listing: https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p8191307
Yeah sure, Stannis Baratheon was utterly miserable as the Lord of Storm’s End, forever grumbling about being the true king after Robert Baratheon died and being jealous of his younger, more affable brother Renly, but you know, Stannis’ is never happy anywhere. Still, it’s a formidable structure: it’s said to be protected by spells woven into its walls, and is able to withstand countless enemy sieges due to its strategic positioning and a seaward wall. You can stake your claim for this castle at Devonshire, England, at a property that sees the round high towers of Storm’s End, but minus the cold, lifeless corridors.
Walls of King’s Landing
1200x600-Walls of Kings Landing

Recommended listing: https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p1919845
Remember the epic battle at Blackwater Bay, the largest war among the Five Kings to date, and how ridiculously hard the Lannisters had to defend their claim to King’s Landing? Well, thank goodness for the walls that surround the major city then, strong and beautiful ones that you can also see at this house in Italy. The Tower Capperina overlooks pristine waters and what would no doubt be an epic sunset, not sparring, plus you definitely won’t get your nose lobbed off too. Located at the dream location of the Amalfi Coast, you’re guaranteed days of sunshine, and nights of restful sleep. Something that we doubt any of our GoT characters ever got.
Book all these vacation rentals and more at HomeAway.
Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres in Asia the same time as the U.S. – exclusively on HBO (StarHub TV Ch 601) this July 17 at 9am, with a same day primetime encore at 9pm. The series will also bestreaming on HBO on StarHub Go and HBO On Demand (StarHub TV Ch 602).

Monochromatic Makeup Is As Fuss-free As It Can Get

These days, putting on makeup is all about multi-usability i.e. using your bronzer as an eyeshadow or using your lipstick as a cheek tint. And perhaps, this is probably how monochromatic looks have evolved. A little amped up version of the no-makeup makeup look, the monochromatic look is not too over the top. But of course, you can opt for striking themes such as an all-purple look or going full-on blue.

The monochromatic look is no stranger to celebrities as well. When Kim Kardashian launched her KKW Beauty line, she released a tutorial video in which her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, suggested ways in which you can use the contour stick on the entire face from the lids, cheeks and on the lips. Not only does it save so much time, it is also super convenient because then, you can just bring that one item with you to touch up on your makeup!

While you can go crazy with red eyeshadow and red lips, we prefer the bronzy glowy look that Kim Kardashian featured in her tutorial video. It’s a colour palette that can go from day to night and it isn’t anything that would get you a lot of stares from other commuters on the train.
To go about achieving the bronzy monochromatic look, simply use a bronzer stick to define the jaws, cheekbones, and the nose. Next, use your finger to dab some product onto your lids and blend. Use a brush to go over the undereye area as well for a smokey-eye effect, and then mix some foundation with some bronzer to achieve a nude lip colour that suits your skin tone. If you have a contour kit, that’s even better. Make use of the lighter shade to add some dimension and pop some highlights to end off the look. Simple right? The next time you’re running late for work, the only thing you need is literally just your bronzer – your true life-saver.

This Cult Classic Highlighter Just Received A Luminous Makeover

You don’t have to be into green beauty to know and rave about RMS Beauty’s Living Luminizer. Anyone who’s done a quick Google search of the best highlighter on the market would’ve read and watched hundreds and thousands of glowing reviews for the product. Just the tiniest amount of this is needed for the most flattering, natural-looking sheen on the high points of your face – ideal for those who have had enough of highlighters that are practically glitter in a jar.
While we can pretty much go on for aeons about it luxurious, velvety texture, there’s actually something much more important we need to share with you guys today. RMS Beauty has just dropped four new versions of its iridescent Living Luminizer nestled in a handy palette called the Living Luminizer X Quad.

rms LL quad

Housed in a white plastic case are four highlighters: Luminizer X, an even more pigmented version of the classic Living Luminizer; Luminizer Nude, a subtle copper sheen; Champagne Rosé, the brand’s new existing pink highlighter; and Champagne Fizz, an opalescent shimmer with a tinge of lilac that’s right on trend.

This isn’t the first palette RMS Beauty has launched, though. A few months ago, the natural beauty brand created their Signature Sets, Mod and Pop, featuring their bestselling highlighters alongside two Lip2Cheek colours, cream bronzer, and a multipurpose balm. It’s the best starter palette if you’re new to the brand, but customers have been quick to point out the fact that it’s lacking a mirror. And with the latest Living Luminizer X Quad, it seems like RMS has omitted it again.
Despite that, we’ll still want a palette in our makeup stash. You can wear each shade on its own or blend them together for a custom, otherworldly glow. Now, if only a local natural beauty webstore *cough* The Naturally Better Company *cough* could help bring some of these new palettes over to us soon.

New Balance’s Latest FuelCore Collection is Perfect for Hardcore Runners

When it comes to striking the balance between function and style, few out there can beat New Balance. The sportswear company has been pretty active in the lifestyle market lately, launching street-worthy kicks like the 247 Classic. However the US-based brand is once again putting a strong emphasis on performance with its latest FuelCore pack.
Comprising of three pairs of running shoes – the FuelCore Sonic, the FuelCell, and the FuelRush, this new collection is geared purely towards athletes; but more on that later.

null

“FuelCore Sonic range for women”

Each shoe is pretty neat for wearing on a regular day as well; that’s if you’re into the whole athleisure trend where sports gear and street clothing mix. But if performance rather than style is what you’re more concerned with, here’s some good news for you. Each FuelCore shoe, in particular the FuelCore Sonic and the FuelCell, will feature innovative components that are designed to up your training regime like never before.
For instance, the FuelCore Sonic comes with a synthetic breathable air mesh upper, a REVlite midsole, and a lightweight rubber outsole. The real star of the show however is a circular-shaped Boa Fit System that’s attached to the side of the shoe. How it works is that you adjust it by twisting the knob to tighten the laces. This will give you a snug fit.

“Alpha Pink FuelCore Sonic”

As for the FuelCell, it’s all about the sole. Inspired by origami shapes, the FuelCell’s sole is crafted from a combination of REVlite cushioning, along with a nitrogen-infused TPU. New Balance claims that this will increase your propulsion and speed when you’re running, while a breathable performance mesh is for added comfort.
FuelCell Key Look with Max Intensity

“Alpha Pink FuelCell”

If you want to cop these kicks, the FuelCore Sonic is retailing for $149, while the FuelCell costs $279. The Fuel Core Sonic for women’s comes in “Alpha Pink”, “Black, and “Cyclone”, while the FuelCell for women’s arrives in “Alpha Pink” and “White”. Both shoes are available now at all New Balance outlets.

Multi-mask With These Food-infused Ones From Taiwanese Brand, heme

Many people have grumbled on the fact that a one-piece face mask does not specifically target the different problem areas we have on our faces. For example, some of us might have a combination skin type and perhaps would like to have a mask for oil-control on the forehead and another kind for minimizing the pores on our nose. Cosmetic and beauty brands out there have slowly picked up on our pleas and the term “multi-masking” was born. This means that you can use multiple masks on different zones of your face to work on specific concerns. How efficient right? And it definitely makes more sense.

Screen Shot 2017-07-14 at 5.31.09 pm

Screen Shot 2017-07-14 at 5.35.01 pm

This concept not only allows you to personalise your masks according to your facial needs, it also makes masking a little more fun. It’s basically like mix-and-match! Brands such as Innisfree and Skin Inc were quick to be one of the first few to ride on the concept and now, Taiwanese brand heme has hopped on the multi-masking trend.
When we received the package from the brand, we honestly thought they were the jelly drinks we used to have when we were kids. So let’s just say the packaging is really enticing and looks pretty appetising. But they do have a very good reason for coming up with the Heinz-lookalike cover. These clay masks are actually food-based and they have six “flavours” available – Eggshell (Yellow), Acai Berry (Purple), Tomato (Red), Mint (Green), Cocoa Oat (Light Brown), and Brown Sugar (Dark Brown).
Screen Shot 2017-07-14 at 5.30.38 pm

Some combination masks you can try out are the Tomato, Mint and Brown Sugar Clay Mask. Apply the Mint-flavoured one on the nose for oil-control, the Tomato-infused one on the upper half of the face for whitening, and the Brown Sugar Clay Mask on the bottom half to moisturize and exfoliate.
Screen Shot 2017-07-14 at 5.34.32 pm

Screen Shot 2017-07-14 at 5.33.54 pm

Alternatively, you can opt for the Acai Berry, Eggshell, and Cocoa Oat trio. Slathering the Acai Berry version on the upper half allows for regeneration of the skin, since it’s packed with vitamins A, C and E. It also helps maintain elasticity and a youthful glow on the face. Follow up by smothering a layer of the Eggshell Clay Mask to unclog all those nasty stubborn pores, and finally apply the Cocoa Oat on the bottom half. Chocolates are rich in antioxidants and help reverse the signs of ageing and they’re also great for removing excess oil and dirt.
So there you have it! When it comes to multi-masking, it is really up to you to decide on what you want to use to specifically target the problems that you have. Everybody has different skin conditions and problem areas so the concept of dedicating different masks for different zones is simply brilliant. The only downside? We would probably crave for some legit chocolate oat after a masking sesh.
Unfortunately, they are not available in Singapore, but you can engage the help of travelers via Airfrov or use a parcel forwarding service to get your hands on them.

Swarovski Is Mixing It Up With Their Most Versatile Collection Yet

We don’t know how many reminders we need, but customisation is definitely big this year, whether it’s a quirky bag strap that can change up the look of your daily carrier, scarves and accessories and shoes that you’ll want monograms or pins or patches on, or over in the world of beauty, makeup drops and innovative foundation formulas, all of which enable us to own the things we buy. Yes, we still spend money on them, but at the same time, it’s something that can be made unique to us, something more exclusive than limited editions (heard that Louis Vuitton x Supreme), an active choice. What this means is that we’re no longer slaves to trends — not necessarily and certainly not begrudgingly — because this time, brands are attempting to reach out to us. There’s power in that, isn’t there?

Bear that in mind when you’re swooning over Swarovski‘s Fall/Winter collection. While the large part of the ‘Urban Fantasy’ series celebrates dynamic and modern jewellery designs that feature everyone’s ever-sparkling favourites, Swarovski crystals, which we got to preview during a regional event at Bangkok, there’s one part of it that deserves to be well highlighted — the Swarovski Remix Collection. There’s jewellery you can connect with, and some that just, connect — this is delightfully both. And this game-changing innovation boils down to this: magnets.

swarovskiflatlay

Um yeah, ‘magnets’ isn’t the most sexy thing to say between exquisite jewellery and model/brand ambassador Karlie Kloss, but hear us out. The Remix collection is basically a variety of strands, each with different key jewellery styles, that you can connect to form an infinite amount of looks — whether it’s a necklace, choker, bracelet, anklets, headbands and so on.  Each strand has a magnetic closure at both ends, a simple solution that makes it easy to combine various Remix pieces together, which means we now have the freedom to be as creative as we like, and dress according to your personality or outfit, or whatever you want. Talk about versatility.

Creative Director Nathalie Colin shares, “I have always been a strong activist of personal styles so the new concept is one of my favourites with its endless mix of possibilities; accessories are great ways to customise one’s look helping women to be noticed for their outstanding styles.”

FW17_FALL_MODEL_ROMANTIC_72DPI FW17_FALL_MODEL_ROCK CHIC_72DPI

swarovski_gold

Just look at campaign girl Kloss and how she plays up the completely different looks — she’s a vision in a soft layered top, exuding the romance of the collection with a cascading necklace and a bracelet that’s loosely strewn across her wrist.

She then morphs into a complete rock star with a choker that sees a combination of rock-inspired designs; this includes crystal-embellished spikes and spheres in statement-making rose gold and black highlights, as well as Crystal Pointiage settings that look like mini studs on a crystal. Have them bunched up together, and suddenly, the delicate pieces become edgy and unexpected. Perfect if you’re a far cry from the dainty-jewellery-wearing girl.

During the event, where we were privy to many of the looks on a fashion showcase, we also got to try on some of the Remix pieces ourselves — safe to say, they’re as brilliant as Swarovski shines. The magnetic closures snapped immediately upon close contact, making it very easy to change up your look, and also quickly put on a tight bracelet without asking for help (you know what we mean). At the same time, these strands were securely in place the whole night. Since the ends were made up of half a Crystal Pointiage ball and half a sphere with the iconic Swan logo, the overall look was seamless and elegant — you’d never tell where one strand ended and the other began.

FW17_FALL_MODEL_GLAM_72DPI FW17_FALL_MODEL_TIMELESS_72DPI

swarovski_silver

When time calls for looking stunning at an evening cocktail event though, Kloss throws in gold-coloured strands that sparkle with bezel-set crystals and crystal pavé spheres, which gives her look a nice touch of glamour, totally achievable. You can then wear them a few at a time, for a subtle look, or have them looped endlessly into a statement choker when paired with a sleek dress, for instance.

Then, there are pieces that utilise Swarovski’s Crystal Pearls, for a timeless look that’s complete with the flawless and lustrous finish of the pearl strands. Again, wearing it messily will give your outfit a different dimension compared to a single strand necklace. Of course, the Remix collection also sees plenty of silver finishes on top of the usual gold and rose gold ones — what this means is that you have the liberty to mix various metals as well if you dare.

swarovski_quirky

We’d like to point out that there are plenty of playful pieces in this collection too — you’ll get motifs like a smiley face, infinity and peace signs, the hamsa hand, as well as classic stars and hearts, which would appeal to the younger crowd, as well as the forever young at heart. Seeing how there are currently at least 33 strands in the Remix collection, and just way too many ways to pair them, we’d say you’d be a little spoilt for choice; but hey, that’s a good thing right?

Swarovski Remix Collection, part of the Swarovski Fall/Winter 2017 Collection. Each Remix strand retails at $149 and will be available in Swarovski boutiques from 2 August 2017. swarovski.com
