#AsNTM Models Layla and Nametha Are Totally Rocking This Zalora Fashion Shoot

Now, as much as we get very opinionated during our weekly Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 recaps, we can’t help but root for the two Singaporean representatives in the competition — namely Layla Ong and R Nametha — both with sharp cheekbones, statuesque figures, and attractive faces that we can see work both on high fashion editorials and commercial shoots, which is really why they were our first picks for this fashion spread. Little did we know that, compared to the slightly awkward beginnings on the show, they’ve since grown leaps and bounds in their confidence too.
Go ahead and check them out — here, the dynamic duo blaze through a range of trends, all versatile pieces and all ready to shop on Zalora in a quick click. And as if they aren’t affordable enough (a whole outfit for less than $100?), you can also get an exclusive 15% off! Simply key in ‘NYLONSG’ during checkout.

You’d Want To Stare At These Instagram-Worthy Fire & Ice Nails All The Time

Remember those shattered glass nails and eyeliner that broke Instagram? The trick to nailing them (hur) has been debunked many times over — and you really have to do is get your hands on some iridescent material; be it foil, cellophane, CD flakes… anything that can look ‘shattered’ and has a holographic reflect. Long story short, you’ll need to have your prismatic tools cut into pieces before sealing them in.

A post shared by Mikey Nguyen (@thenailceo) on

These fire and ice nails though, are the exact opposite of the ‘shattered’ series. You’ll need to have your holo foil to be in one piece — so something malleable and can easily wrap around the contours of your nails will work best. The manicure art may look complicated, but that can’t be further from the truth.

A post shared by thenailboss (@thenailboss) on

The trick lies in the pattern of the foil chosen — a good example will be these foils pack from notpolish.com, as well as the type of polish that’s used to seal it in. Layering different warm colours together will help create the ‘flame’ effect, so that part might require some skill and finesse when executing. From the looks of it, creating that falls along the same lines of the marbling technique, a beginner’s nail art skill to pick up. You can place the foil on the entire nail, or just part of it, depending on your personal preference.
And that’s really all the elbow grease needed to perfect the base. The rest of the manicure lies in the design — and you get to go wild and have your tips adorned with glitter and crystals. At this point in time, more is more, so by all means… knock yourselves out.

Magic Mushrooms: The Fungus Your Skin Needs to Look Its Best

Mushrooms aren’t exactly something we’d discuss in beauty, but there’s more to these edible fungi than meets the eye.
It dates back to the imperial Tang Dynasty, where concubine Yang Guifei, one of China’s famed four great beauties, is said to have cited Tremella mushroom in maintaining her youthful appearance. A major benefit this mushroom has is that it draws moisture to the skin, just like hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, so finding an all-natural match for that much hydration is major news in the green beauty industry.
Certain types of mushrooms are loaded with antioxidants too, so they’re able to fend off free radicals, thereby strengthening the skin’s barrier and making it less likely to disintegrate. That is what makes this ingredient incredibly beneficial, especially if your complexion reacts to environmental stressors easily. Mushrooms are also known for their anti-inflammatory abilities, which is why they’re able to reduce wrinkles (not that most of you need to just yet) and overall puffiness fast.
A smart skincare company that’s jumped on board the mushroom train is Origins. Their Mega-Mushroom line is one you’ve surely gotten acquainted with, but there are other skincare and even makeup products out there that feature magic mushrooms as their key ingredient as well. It’s time you got familiar with them.

mushroom - blithe (1)
Blithe Pressed Serum Tundra Chaga

Of course, the Koreans have it all figured out. This anti-pollution serum and moisturiser hybrid gives the skin lasting hydration and nourishment, all without the heaviness. Combined with a blend of oils including argan and olive, its formula is packed with 60% tundra chaga mushroom extract. It’s even cold-processed to ensure its optimal nutrients are preserved, so you’re definitely getting the best.
$64, available from Sephora.

mushroom - benefit cosmetics
Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional: Pore Minimizing Makeup

It’s not a foundation, and it’s not a tinted moisturiser either… This weightless formulation is actually long-wearing makeup that hides your skin imperfections without clogging up your pores. And since it’s made with mushroom extract, it minimises the appearance of  pores and controls sebum production for up to 8 hours. Thankfully there’s a built-in pore-blurring sponge too, so you can whip it out for a quick midday touchup.
$53, available from Sephora.

murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield (1)
Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA+++

If you’re looking for Glossier’s Invisible Shield dupes, then consider this 3-in-1 product by Murad. It’s an SPF, primer and treatment that helps to smooth out your skin texture, giving you a velvety canvas to work with. It harnesses the power of mushroom peptides to diminish the appearance of fine lines and blur out any epidermal imperfections too. It does all of that while combating the signs of aging.
$139, available at Murad counters and Sephora.

mushroom - antipodes (1)
Antipodes Immortal SPF15 Face & Body Moisturiser

Don’t be put off by its name – there’s a reason it’s called that. This fragrance-free daily moisturiser contains Reishi mushroom, an ingredient that’s known as an elixir of immortality in traditional Chinese medicine for over 4,000 years. It’ll stimulate healthy cell renewal to give your complexion a boost in glow. Pair that with a natural SPF of 15, and your skin’s well-protected against the sun, bacteria, environmental flare-ups, and city pollutants.
$58, available from budcosmetics.com.

mushroom - jurlique
Jurlique Nutri-Define Superior Retexturising Facial Serum

Now, this one is for skin that’s in need of serious rejuvenation. The Nutri-Define Superior Retexturising Facial Serum contains a potent blend of rosemary leaf extract, glycogen, peppermint leaf and horseradish, infusing the skin with an instant cooling effect, while its unique Biosome5 technology helps to smooth out the skin texture. There’s also licorice, ginseng, and mulberry root extracts in there that promises to replenish the skin by feeding it with nutrients. With that hefty price tag though, it better perform some kind of miracle.
$210, available from Jurlique stores and counters.

The Minions Rock The Bucket Hat In Their Latest Beach-themed Fashion Collab

Just when we thought the Minions craze was finally over with the collaboration with BAPE and PUMA rounding up their comeback, the Minions are still going strong with yet another fashion collaboration. The next thing you know; they might just be taking over the runways in the upcoming Paris Fashion Week (please, no).
After taking on the roles of creative directors for their PUMA collection and teaming up with their friend, Baby Milo, for an impending BAPE collection, the Minions are taking a break by going to the beach.

Partnering with Mira Mikati for a capsule collection consisting of just three items, namely a hoodie, blouson and a chemise, the Minions are clad in casual beachwear, sporting a bucket hat and circular sunnies. Hipster much?

http-bae.hypebeast.comfiles201707mira-mikati-minions-despicable-me-3-collection-6

While Stuart, Carl and Kevin took center stage for the PUMA collection, Craig and Karl will be the stars of the collection this time (little do they know they actually all look the same to us hoomans). Out of the three items, our favourite would have to be the chemise – the classic blue and white pinstriped button-up shirt that you can get from Zara, gets a “polka dot” treatment that, upon closer inspection, turns out to be miniscule motifs of the beach-themed minions. The navy blue bomber jacket also provides a nice contrast of primary colours and features cartoon-like illustrations, making it a preppy and cute option to wear on a gloomy rainy day.

NYLON Team Picks: Concealers That Save The Day

Bless you if you don’t need them, but for most of us, concealers are the thing that can transform a really bad skin day into one that’s not too bad – all just by covering up that damning pimple. For the ones that have to fight the panda eyes, a good concealer also helps us look a bit less like a zombie. Here are the ones we reach for on the regular.

shiseido and bourjois

Shiseido White Lucent OnMakeup Spot Correcting Serum SPF25/PA+++, $55 at Shiseido counters/ Bourjois Healthy Mix Anti-Fatigue Concealer, $17.50 at Watsons and Sasa
Yes, I rely on concealers so much, I’m recommending two of them. Shiseido’s White Lucent is one of my favourite brightening lines, mostly for its lovely oral scent and how soft it makes my skin feel. So when they added this spot-correcting serum/ concealer into the lineup, I immediately added it to my daily purse essentials – I like the idea of my concealer being able to lighten my dark spots while it’s covering them up, plus the signature White Lucent scent is nice to have. As for a budget option, Bourjois’ Healthy Mix complexion range has always been a star – this concealer smells lovely and blends beautifully, and that’s really all I need.

mufe

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer, $50 at the MAKE UP FOR EVER store and Sephora
I use this really minimally, like a miniuscule dot every time, only because a little goes a long way. Its liquid but buildable texture means it’s quite the multi-tasker: I blend it under my eyes to cover dark eye circles, as well as tap it over any blemishes I’m trying to hide from the world (or, myself). It’s also more reliable than our MRT trains – and then some – because it doesn’t fade away!
– Amelia Tan, Associate Editor
On most days, my usual foundation is enough to conceal my dark circles, however, we all have days when we just don’t sleep well and thus, we end up looking like a raccoon’s relative the next morning. That’s where this product comes in. It blends well, lasts throughout the day, and doesn’t cake or crack. Most importantly, of course, it gets the job done. The tube is tiny, but a little goes a long way. Be careful not to squeeze out too much, though.
– Patrene Mathieu, Designer

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer Concealer Vanilla - jpeg

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer, $45 at the NARS store and counters
This pot concealer came as a benefit of a hand-modelling stint for our Instagram account. It’s matte and blendable, offering good coverage for spots and pigmentation. I apply it with my fingers, dotting and blending onto problem areas. I like that it doesn’t feel too heavy, and the texture smoothens out very well.
– Joanne Cheah, Designer

bareminerals bareskin

Bareminerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer, $26, at cosme-de.com
On days where I don’t want to wear a full face of foundation, I’ll reach for this concealer and cover up any red patches and blemishes. I won’t mask my panda eyes with this, though – the formula tends to wear off easily around that area, but that’s also partially due to the fact that I can’t seem to keep my fingers away, so yeah, that’s on me. The concealer stays pretty true to its name; its thin, serum-like consistency goes on smooth and it packs on a ton of pigment, so you just need the tiniest amount to hide everything. When it dries, it leans towards a dewier finish, which is fine – I’ve learned to embrace my grease-face. The only downside is that Sephora has stopped stocking the brand and it’s where I usually get it from, but there are always beauty webstores to solve that issue. The Internet is truly a magical place.✨

maybelline fit me

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, available in the USA
I think most beauty junkies would agree that the Maybelline Fit Me concealers are one of the best drugstore concealers that does its job well. In a previous edition of team picks, my NARS stick concealer is my go-to when I only require just a light coverage, but these Maybelline Fit Me concealers are part of my full makeup routine. It has higher coverage and stays all day as well, though it does wear off slightly as the day goes by. I use two shades from the range, applying the “light” shade to brighten my undereyes and “sand” for everywhere else, mainly to conceal redness and blemishes. The creamy formula and wand applicator makes it really easy to glide on, getting even hard-to-reach areas, and it is even dubbed as the dupe of the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. Although most would agree the latter is slightly better in terms of coverage, the Fit Me concealer does a pretty decent job for its affordable price point. Also, this concealer is easy to blend and does not crease or go into fine lines at all. The hype over this unassuming concealer is justified for sure.
– Phyllis Guo, Editorial Assistant

rimmel wake me up

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer, $12.90 at Watsons
Finally, a part of the gene pool that worked in my favour — I’m humbly blessed with a lack of under-eye bags, as well as minimally faint dark eye circles. They are the least of my skincare woes, which is why I never quite saw the need to invest much in concealers, considering how on lazy days I can even skip out on that step. I still do own a couple of drugstore ones though, and the one I’m currently quite impressed with is the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. I appreciate the fact that the lightest shade (Ivory) is a cool-toned, pinky hue that blends in well with my skin tone. Most drugstore concealers tend to be very yellow, for some reason, but this one works out well enough to cover my dark eye circles and acne scars.

5 Unique Concepts You Can Only Enjoy at MUJI’s New Plaza Singapura Store

MUJI has over the years mastered what it means to make simplicity beautiful, whether it’s through their vast collection of clothes, crafts, or household goods. When it comes to them, less is more. Well, most of the time anyway.
The Japanese company’s new store at Plaza Singapura is an anomaly in the sense in that it will have a total of not one, but five exclusive concepts where shoppers can learn about tradition, culture, and design – far from keeping things minimal, eh?
Not that we’re complaining of course. But before you go crazy and dive straight into the wonderful world of MUJI products, here’s a guide to each of the five concepts, and what exactly you can expect from them when the store opens proper on 21 July, 2017.
MUJI Labo

Back to basics, that’s what MUJI Labo is all about. Over at this section of the new store, you’ll find clothing that is lean, clean, and yet stylish at the same time, despite the complete lack of frills. Oh, and in typical MUJI fashion, everything here goes down the organic route, with each piece flexible enough to be worn as a unisex item. Now how’s that for convenience?
IDÉE
dimanche_scene

Founded in Tokyo in 1980, IDÉE is an interior brand that does away with unnecessary complexities, something that’s pretty much in line with MUJI’s minimalist philosophy. That’s why the two have joined forces for a special collaboration that includes sophisticated and high quality household goods like furniture, kitchenware, stationary, textiles, art pieces, and even gardening tools.
Found MUJI

Found MUJI is all about products that are refined and reproduced from materials across the globe, with the aim of retaining the functionality and culture from which it was conceived. At the new store, Found MUJI will introduce a medley of products made from traditional Indian hand-craftsmanship. Think intricately handwoven rugs and bags crafted with delicate block print textile from the historic city of Jaipur.

Much like an open house, Open MUJI invites customers to experience living life the MUJI way, through a series of workshops, exhibitions, and talks that explore the underlying values of makers and the essence of their creations. The event space will showcase a range of Found MUJI works, curated from MUJI’s search for durable household goods from all around the world – a search that has spanned more than three decades, from 1980 to 2016. Each exhibit focuses on the essence of the displays, and embracing the values of their makers. Open from 21 July to 3 September 2017, 10am to 10pm daily.
Embroidery Station
h4_101.57%_0906

While it’s nice and all to just grab something off the shelf, it’s even more fun flexing your creativity with design, something you’ll be able to do at MUJI’s Plaza Singapura outlet. The new store will have an embroidery station where you can imprint custom-embroidery to bought MUJI apparel or textile products, with a range of adorable design and letterings available for choice.

Muji_Takeaway Set_Onigiri With Cold And Hot Deli__223-D2

Okay, so this isn’t a new concept by any means (MUJI already has two other cafés in Singapore), but the Plaza Singapure outlet has two exciting new dishes for you to look forward to, in addition to the regular mains – first up, there’s the crispy Pork Katsu Donburi ($15.90) paired with fragrant 16 grain rice and an onsen egg, while there’ll also be Cheese Baked Butter Curry Chicken rice ($17.90) slathered with warm mozzarella cheese au gratin. Not a new dish but a yummy one nonetheless, the Onigiri bento set that comes in both hot ($10.90) and cold ($10) options is great for takeaways.

Blue's The Warmest Colour In The H&M x Colette Collab

Yes, another H&M collab – this one might not have the hype of  H&M x Kenzo, or generate the queues that are the likes of H&M x Alexander Wang, but… this one’s a capsule collection filled with classics that will actually get a lot of mileage.
For Autumn/Winter ’17, the H&M Studio collection – which is the more upmarket range – will take on some French flair, with a tie up with cult French brand Colette. If you’ve ever wandered through its famous store at Rue Saint Honoré in Paris, you’ll know that this clothing and accessory retailer has a signature blue used in its branding – and it’s exactly this “colette blue” that features heavily in this collection.
What immediately stands out is the anorak-poncho hybrid, that mixes two weather-hardy materials as well, wool and nylon. Which makes this piece obviously not meant to be worn in our climes already, but it’ll make you hella fashionable for your next trip to anywhere where a poncho is actually required, that’s for sure.
hm colette
Everything else can be easily mixed into your Singapore wardrobe, though. A colette-blue mini skirt in a unique texture, complete with the all-essential pockets; a well-cut mini-dress in white; a white blouse overlaid with a subtle graffiti print and with a cut-out uneven hem; and a truly lovely multi-fabric dress with distressed edges.
This capsule collection will be available at the Colette store in Paris as well as the Colette website from end August, so queuing to get your hands on it might be a little challenging. Still, the rest of the main H&M Studio A/W’17 collection, which is actually what this Colette collab is based off, will be available at the Orchard Building store from 14 September.

The H&M Studio x colette edition is available from 21 August 2017 on colette.fr. The H&M Studio A/W’17 collection is available at H&M Orchard Building from 14 September 2017. hm.com/sg

The Converse x PatBo Floral Makeover Is What We Crave For In A Designer Sneaker

Good ol’ Converse clinched itself yet another makeover, this time with Brazilian designer Patricia Bonaldi for a limited edition pack that features bright, vibrant hibiscus flower motifs, synonymous with the sunny vibe of São Paulo, Brazil. We’ve seen the versatile Converse canvas take on many iterationsfur, monochrome, with Looney Toons, with Comme des Garçons… and this is the second time the brand has taken on a floral theme — the first time courtesy of Brazil-based designer PatBo as well.

#Converse X #PatBo

A post shared by PatBo (@patbo_official) on

Delicate illustrations of the hibiscus, a native flower of São Paulo, clads the entire upper of the shoe, abstractly tessellated in themed tones of indigo and violet, white and turquoise. The muted aubergine colourway comes in a Hi model, while the Ox silhouette will feature a brighter, and more summery theme. The flowers will be outlined with gilded yarn for a touch of sparkle and opulence, while lending them a soft metallic effect. Both footwear are completed with white midsoles.
Both models are already available on converse.com and selected Converse retail outlets at US$135 a pair. No news as to whether they’ll be available in Singapore yet, but do watch this space for updates.

The Latest Adidas NMD Apparel Line Is Dedicated To The Wanderers At Heart

Since its first ever release in 2015, the adidas NMD sneakers have indeed come a very long way. The OG black silhouette with red and blue shanks spun a whole slew of iterations, leaving fans spoilt for choice and…perhaps a burnt hole in the wallet. After having gained unprecedented popularity amongst sneaker heads and comfortably nestled at the top of the sneaker arena, adidas is expanding its NMD offerings to now include apparel.
Just like how the nomads (N-M-Ds by the way) are made for a travelling lifestyle, you can expect the apparel line to stick with the concept of constructing pieces that are able to serve a useful purpose yet comfortable enough for the ones who travel light. The apparels are created with modern fabrics to achieve a good balance between functionality and fashion-forward designs, while still maintaining its streetwear aura.

BR9354_25_outfit

BS2536_25_outfit

The outcome is a range of contemporary utilitarian items which include track jackets with the NMD logo tape down the sleeves, lightweight insulated shorts and a parka that can be transformed into a bag when not in use. The ladies range features simple jersey dresses made of soft ribbed fabric, reversible silhouettes and an allover dot pattern jacket that resembles hand painted brushstrokes. Its clear the garments are carefully thought out just by looking at the materials chosen and the functionality they provide, such as the nylon weave on the jacket to keep the wind out, heat transfer tapes and the very important zips and pockets. And since a nomad travels from place to place, it is apt that some of the NMD logo tapes reads “The brand with the 3-Stripes” in multiple languages.

Every traveller will require a heavy-duty bag that is lightweight enough to bring around and Adidas has got that covered as well. Another branch of the NMD apparel is the travel accessories that are a part of its 2017 Fall/Winter collection. It includes rectangular backpacks with several compartments, a luggage and a carryall bag, all of which can be carried multiple ways. There are also key chains, a cap and different sizes of waist pouches to sum up the collection.

The NMD apparel line might not be as highly anticipated or hyped about, but it is a good option to turn to when looking for functional and versatile streetwear pieces for all the wanderers at heart.
The NMD women’s and men’s collection are available online now while the travel accessories will be made available from 7 July 2017.

Calling All Minimalists: Muji Is Opening Its First Hotel In Tokyo

If we’re going to be really honest here — we truly haven’t found anyone who doesn’t like Muji. How can you though? Stepping into a Muji outlet instantly calms your nerves — it might be the gentle jingle of Japanese folk music on loop, or perhaps the very minimalist and aesthetically pleasing household items that are on display. Either way, it’s hard to leave the store empty-handed. Even getting a bottle of $1.90 Muji milk tea beats walking out with nothing. (And the sleek silver bottle can be recycled, too.)

That said, chances are you’re already following @mujihouse on Instagram, should you be a fan of clean, clutter-free, Scandinavian home interiors. Which is precisely why we bring home a piece of Muji each time we’re there, to one day transform our own homes into one that looks like it can fit right into the @mujihouse feed. #housegoals indeed.

But for the eager beavers who can’t wait to see their furniture bits come together (slowly), there’s finally a chance where you can get to sleep right smack in a room thats created and endorsed by none other than Muji themselves. Why, don’t take our word for it — take Muji’s — and their very exciting announcement of the opening of a Muji Hotel in Tokyo’s popular shopping district, Ginza. An ace location for locals and tourists alike to unwind after a day’s worth of shopping, the hotel will consist of 13 stories; which, may we say, is truly taking minimalism to a new level.
All furniture and design concepts will be courtesy of Muji, so you can look forward to snoozing in a thoughtfully-decorated interior. The hotel is set to open in Spring 2019, and will also house Muji’s global flagship store. Better start saving up those pennies now!

Paris Hilton's Juicy Couture Track Pants and Von Dutch Trucker Hats Are Making A Comeback

Remember when Juicy Couture tracksuits and Von Dutch bags were all the rage in the 2000’s? Paris Hilton was rocking her matching pink velour tracksuit with the word “JUICY” embellished right smack in the middle of her butt in either glitter or rhinestones, paired with her Von Dutch trucker cap, and carrying a lil chihuahua around. Yeap, Hilton was probably the purveyor of that velvet tracksuit life that was oh so fabulous 10 years ago. She’s not the only one: Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears and even fictional character, Regina George, each owned at least one set of the plush tracksuits.

Now, we would probably agree that the fake diamonds and all-pink outfit just look cheap and unfashionable. But whether you like it or not, we have been seeing Juicy Couture and Von Dutch appearing on our Instagram feed as of late. It’s slowly making a comeback.

Early this year, the queen of Snapchat, Kylie Jenner posted a snap of her in a Juicy tracksuit, and of course everybody started following suit. The pose these girls always do for the ‘gram? Squatting or kneeling with their backs facing the camera and slightly turning their heads to face the camera with a seductive look. Because if you don’t show the butt-popping, jewel-encrusted trackpants to the world, is it really Juicy?

We’ve also seen tight-fitting cropped Von Dutch T-shirts and caps making the rounds on Instagram, and damn, does that iconic curvy font bring back memories of every school kid owning a Von Dutch sling bag.
Well, all we can say is these brands were a part of popular culture and fashion a decade ago and although the trend is probably just a fad, it’s nice to relive our horrid fashion sense from back in the day. By the way, you still can get that all-pink Juicy Couture tracksuit at ASOS and Von Dutch trucker caps at Selfridges, if you ever plan on bringing back the trend, that is.

Behold, The Best Sebum-Absorbing Compacts To Have With You 24/7

Ugh, the dreaded T-zone shine. It’s truly applaudable how sebum works — no matter how matte our primer, foundation, concealer, finishing powders — basically, layers of makeup are, facial oil still manages to peek through all that. Which is why, as we’ve always said; the magic lies in the touch-ups. Most of us already carry around powder compacts to well, powder up, but should you be the type that gets really greasy, you might want to invest in a sebum-controlling powder to keep the shine at bay.
Check out our top picks:

1307595651_l1
innisfree No Sebum Mineral Pact
$17, available at innisfree stores

This compact should look familiar because of widely used it is. innisfree has a whole lot of best-selling products endorsed by Asian girls worldwide, and this one No Sebum Mineral Pact definitely gets our vote of confidence. Crack the nifty mint green compact open, and you’ll find encased in the matte component, white pressed powder. The powder is infused with Jeju minerals and mint that both help control facial oil excretion while keeping the skin looking radiant. It applies on translucent, which is always ideal for an oil-control compact.
P.S. The No Sebum Mineral Pact has quite a number of times sold out at innisfree stores; evident of how popular the product is. Get yours before they run out of stock again!

Murad MattEffect Blotting Perfector
$68, available at Sephora, Robinsons the Heeren, BHG Jurong , Body Contour Permier and Passage New York

A rather brow-raising product that we’ve decided to throw into the mix, eh? It’s quite rare for cushion foundations (or complexion products, in general) to be matte — most of them are demi, to at most, semi-matte — but this cushion compact by Murad is actually a blotting cushion that’ll mattify greasy spots on your face. Similar to any cushion compacts, you’ll have to dab on the product with a cushion sponge. The formula is berry-scented, so that’s quite pleasant on the olfactory senses. It’s infused with French green clay extract, marshmallow powder and Soft Focus Mattifying Spheres — a.k.a sebum-absorbing ingredients that all help to absorb shine.
mac_sku_M53003_640x600_0
M.A.C Cosmetics Blot Powder Pressed
$46, available at M.A.C stores and counters

Whenever the word ‘blot’ is present, it’s almost always certain that it’s going to be an oil-control product, loaded up with ingredients (mica and silica, in this case) that are targeted to mattifying skins and keeping shine away. Lots of die-hard M.A.C fans have multiple pieces of the Blot Powder in their beauty arsenal, because its silky-smooth texture makes it a perfect product to set liquid or cream foundations with. Not only that, it’s also compact enough for you to slip it into your makeup purse for travel purposes. The powder goes on lightweight, so it’s perfect for a midday touchup without looking cake-y.
L-Oreal-Paris-Mat-Magique-SDL677719190-2-9f9a9
L’Oreal Mat Magique BB Veil
$18.90, available at Watsons stores

Of the many, many, many pressed powders that L’Oreal has in its ever-expanding line, we almost can’t believe that this is actually the brand’s first fresh matte powder that’s specifically meant for sebum control. It’s a great time to be alive. The powder is loaded with Volcanic Perlite Infusion, a natural but powerful active ingredient that’ll effectively soak up unwanted facial oils. Plus, at a drugstore price too!
1445408238_l1
Nature Republic Green Tea Pore Pact
$14.80, available here

This compact by Nature Republic may not be as commonly seen as the innisfree one, but folks who are in-the-know have often commented that both products can be deemed as dupes to each other. The Green Tea Pore Pact does have, as its name suggests, green tea — and also mint, lemon verbena, rosehip and tea tree essence. It does look rather like the innisfree one: green component, with translucent powder inside. And truth be told, it does work just as well as the innisfree one, so in the event that you can’t seem to get hold of either one of these compacts, the other does the job just the same.

The Best “Not-So-Smart” Phones to Buy For Senior Citizens

Vintage products have always been the rage, but 2017 has seen a surprising trend: the return of old school gadgets. Whether it’s forgotten gaming consoles or kitschy disposable cameras, low-tech is the new black and that includes phones for the elderly.
Okay, they might not exactly be retro, but these kinds of phones have very simple features, which make them pretty easy for senior citizens to use. And if you’ve got a grandparent or an elderly relative that desperately needs a handset, here’s a list you might want to consider:
iNo Elderly Mobile Phone

INo_Elderly_Mobile_Phone_REd_large

Don’t expect a great camera or a sleek infinity display over here. You’re not going to get all that. Instead, this simple feature flip phone is packed with all the important stuff. It has a display with large text that’s easy to read, big buttons, and even a SOS alert button that’s meant to call five pre-programmed numbers of your choice in emergency situations.
iNo Elderly Mobile Phone, $108, available via www.thegoldenconcepts.com.
SGiNo Simple 3G
SGino_simple3G

Like the iNo Elderly Mobile Phone, this basic device comes with no frills and is built specifically for senior citizens in mind. Large buttons and a huge screen with big fonts dominate the phone’s front, while even at low levels; the phone’s volume is extremely loud, which is great for those who are hard of hearing. And yes, there’s also a conveniently located SOS emergency button right at the back.
SGiNo Simple 3G, $88, available via inomobile.com.sg.
Samsung Galaxy Folder 2
samsung_galaxy_folder

The Galaxy Folder 2 isn’t a senior citizen-friendly device per se; it’s more of a throwback item for people who have flip phone nostalgia. That’s not to say it isn’t easy to use though cause it is. What’s cooler however is that it comes in trendy colourways, and is pretty advanced for its simplicity, with 4G capabilities, 3GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera, and 16GB of internal memory.
Samsung Galaxy Folder 2, $300, available via list.qoo10.sg.
BlackBerry KEYOne
blackberry_keyone

By far, this is the smartest of the “not-so-smart” phones on this list. The KEYOne comes with a 4.5-inch touch screen that’s perfect for old folks who are a little more tech-savvy, and who can forget that famous keyboard? In terms of specs, Blackberry’s latest device is quite the beast, running on Android 7.1 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, while a sharp 12-megapixel camera tops things off. Be prepared to pay a premium price for it though!

We Would Buy THEFACESHOP x Marvel Collection Just For The Packaging

No matter how much money we willingly (or not) spend on new makeup launches and the amount of sleep we give up just to wake up earlier to perfect our winged eyeliner, we cannot deny how makeup acts as our shield and life-saviour. Okay, it sounds really cheesy because y’all probably already know this post is going to be about Marvel, but c’mon, it’s true! Makeup helps conceal our designer eye bags, panda-like dark eye circles and blemishes that we really rather do without. So, isn’t it apt that THEFACESHOP’s latest compact cushion cover is of Captain America’s shield? And don’t worry boys, the collection also includes a small range of products for men, so there’s no need to feel left out!
As mentioned earlier, ladies will get to keep their very own mini Captain America shield that is actually a cushion compact in disguise. Loaded with SPF50+ and PA+++ UV protection, the anti-darkening cushion apparently maintains its colour on the skin even in high temperatures and humid environment, lasting up to 12 hours. Perfect for Singapore weather. There are four available shades, two of which have a soft glow finish and the other two, a natural finish.

Screen Shot 2017-07-06 at 4.22.07 pm

Also look out for their 2-in-1 Curling Mascara that has 2 wands of different thickness in one tube. The slim wand gets the hard-to-reach lashes in the inner corners while the thicker one curls up the outer ends. Four colours are available, with Marvel Avengers such as Black Widow, Iron Man and Spider-Man fronting the packaging. There are also Ink Gel Pencil Liners to match with the mascaras, and they are smudge-proof and water-proof (because heaven forbid superheroes save the day with smudged eyeliner).

The collection also includes four nail duo sets, five shades of Spider-Man-themed matte lipsticks and three shades of Iron Man Metal Lip Colour that comes with metal tips! Cool, huh? The Metal Lip Colours have a glittery and glossy finish and contains Argan oil extract that moisturises the lips. And did we mention their eyeshadow palettes come with a short comic strip hidden inside?

And for the boys who really want to own a shield as well, THEFACESHOP also has a multi-line cushion for men. But boys, before you snide at the idea of putting on makeup, this compact cushion actually protects your skin from harmful UV rays and corrects your skin tone at the same time! If you don’t know the importance of putting on sunscreen, read this before shrugging the thought off. There are also Sun BB Cream and Sports Sun Cream as well for those who do sports regularly under the sun.

THEFACESHOP x Marvel collection is fairly affordable, with prices ranging from KRW6,000 for the nail polish duo to KRW35,000 for a special set for men. The products are limited edition and are currently only available in South Korea. However, you can engage the help of travelers via Airfrov (there are already people who made requests for this collection) to help get them for you, or purchase them online from kollectionk.com.

The YSL Beauty Vernis À Lèvres Now Come In These Essential Primary Colours

Back in 2012, YSL Beauty changed the lip colour game with this sleek rectangle of black and gold:

vernis a levres 2012

The Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres was branded as a “glossy stain”, and 5 years ago, that was pretty groundbreaking – we know it might be hard to see that now in 2017, when beauty has evolved by so much. What’s impressive is this is still a product that’s relevant today, and YSL Beauty has managed to keep it as such a well-loved formula.
If you need an introduction, why it’s still getting so much love even after half a decade is because this stuff does. Not. Budge. When you slick it on it’s a gloss, but not the kind strands of hair get stuck in. Over the day, the shininess fades away, but evenly – so what’s left behind on your lips is a pretty stain.
Over the years, new versions joined the Vernis À Lèvres family: the Pop Water, shades of neon with a more translucent finish; and the Vinyl Cream, with a consistency closer to a creamy lipstick but with very high shine.
And from this July, there’s going to be plenty that is new indeed: 5 new shades joining the classic Vernis À Lèvres range, 4 new shades each for the Pop Water and Vinyl Cream:
ysl classic
New shades of the Vernis À Lèvres classic, from left to right: 46 Rouge Fusain, 47 Carmin Tag, 48 Orange Graffiti, 49 Fuchsia Filtre, 50 Encre Nude.
nars pop water

New shades of the Vernis À Lèvres Pop Water, from left to right: 217 Red Spray, 218 Orange Mist, 219 Fuchsia Drops, 220 Nude Steam.

ysl vinyl cream

New shades of the Vernis À Lèvres Vinyl Cream, from left to right: 413 Bourgogne Alternatif, 414 Rave Orange, 415 Fuchsia Beats, 416 Psychedelic Chili.

And perhaps most excitingly, something completely new – the Vernis À Lèvres Colour Amplifier, which comes in 3 shades.
ysl vernis a levres
The Vernis À Lèvres Colour Amplifier, from left to right: 53 Yellow Amplifier, 52 Blue Amplifier, 51 Magenta Amplifier.

Blue, yellow, magenta: yup, these are indeed primary colours that don’t look like they belong in your regular lip colour stash. You might have guessed it already: they’re actually meant to be worn as top coats. Blue darkens any colour worn below, yellow brightens, while the magenta (our personal favourite) adds a flattering plum hue.
This is spot on for the whole colour-altering lip product trend, and an investment in these Amplifiers means that you won’t have to buy a whole new lip colour each time you want something juuuuust a bit different from what you already own.
Okay, we know that’s not happening, and we’re all going to continue collecting more and more iterations of the same kind of nude or pink. Still, always say yes to a new Vernis À Lèvres, especially these three primary colours.
