This is How Samsung’s New Galaxy Note 8 Could Look Like

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 might not have been the safest phone to own (or to be around for that matter). But before its ill-fated demise, it was considered one of the best gadgets in the market. And for better or worse, the phone is making a major comeback this 2017. Hopefully sans the explosive factor.
Anyway.
According to renders released by OnLeaks, leakers that recently revealed the iPhone 8’s new all-glass design, the Galaxy Note 8 will sport a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone like the Galaxy S8. It will also have dual cameras, an in vogue feature that has made its way to a number of handsets, like the iPhone 7 Plus, OPPO’s R11, and Huawei’s P10.

What’s unclear however is how the front of the phone will look like, and that’s really important. Although it’ll probably be a case of Samsung following up from the S8’s edge-to-edge infinity display, because that way, more screen can be fitted into the phone’s body. Consumers can also expect the screen size to be pumped up to a huge 6.2-inches.
If anything, the renders released at the moment aren’t that impressive. They’re kind of dour, and are nowhere near as attractive as Samsung’s other products, like the Galaxy S8 in millennial pink, or even the snazzy new flip phone the company recently released.

But not to worry, these are all just rumours at the end of the day, and nothing is confirmed until an official announcement is made. Let’s just hope we see something way more impressive when the actual phone comes out, because for a flagship device that’ll probably cost loads of money, it needs to be real good.

How This Oil-Free Skincare Range Became a Cult-Favourite

Has Kiehl’s ever put a foot wrong in the beauty industry? No, probably not. Over the years, we’ve penned countless love letters to the brand in the form of glowing reviews. The Ultra Light Daily UV Defense has become one of our go-tos when we seek weightless sun protection, their Calendula Face Wash has won over our non-committal Associate Editor, and our Editor-in-Chief even has a personal list of recommendations, so that’s really saying something.
However, Kiehl’s also has a no-frills skincare range that has quietly attained cult-status through the years, saving plenty of troublesome, oily complexions that needed a hit on the refresh button. Now, we’re about to uncover the secret behind the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free collection and what makes these products perform so darn well.

kiehls range

Now, “oil-free” may sound a tad drying and undernourishing, but that’s why every product in this range is infused with Imperata Cylindrica (a.k.a. desert plant extract), the line’s key ingredient. Prolific in the Australian outback, the Imperata Cylindrica plant thrives in parched conditions and excessively saline environments thanks to the high concentrations of potassium in their roots, and that’s where its source of hydration is at. This potent plant extract is what helps the skin soak up and retain moisture efficiently – perfect for those who like their beauty products sans oil but not sans hydration. Let’s have a closer look at what each step of the collection does.

kiehls ultra facial cleanser

The Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser ($35) combines the Imperata Cylindrica with lemon fruit extract to slough away dead skin cells and impurities to balance out oily skin and leave it feeling fresh. This formula is also one that’s sulfate-free, so your epidermis won’t be stripped of moisture and natural oils after a quick lather, massage, and rinse.

kiehls ultra facial toner

By now, you should know the importance of using a toner after you cleanse. The Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner ($43) is infused with Antarcticine, a glycoprotein to plump up the skin and protect it from free-radicals. So not only will this alcohol-free formula swipe away traces of residue, it’ll also calm down any redness, balance our your skin’s pH levels, and restore moisture.

kiehls ultra facial cream

If you’re on the hunt for a non-greasy, fragrance-free moisturiser that does the job, then the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream ($49) is it. Combining antarcticine with moisture-rich vitamin E, and cooling cucumber fruit extract, this lightweight moisturiser works well during the day and at night to control sebum production while it packs on the hydration. In this heat, we trust you’ll love its refreshing gel texture as well, and you can even pop the jar in your fridge to keep it even cooler. It’s high time you tried out this oil-free range yourself. Who knows? You might just join the Kiehl’s cult too.

To get acquainted with these products, you can head down to the Kiehl’s Nature’s Playground at Orchard Ion B4, their first ever beauty playground. Yup, you read that right. A beauty playground! There’ll be a Calendula Swing, a Vitamin C Boosting Slide, an Ultra Hydration Cactus Garden, and a Buttersticks Lemon Refresh Zone. Pretty sure Kiehl’s has just created a haven for beauty junkies with this one. You can also get free skincare samples, travel-sized beauty items, as well as special value sets of the brand’s most iconic products. There’s much more in store for you guys, and we’ve written all about it here! Visit the Kiehl’s Nature’s Playground from 1 to 9 July.

3 Refreshing Ways To Style Your Wardrobe Around Your Trusty Pair of Birkenstocks

Travelling’s something we all yearn for these days, probably due to constant Instagram envy, but if you’re talking about shoes that you can take along to conquer the world, it’s time to do some sole-searching – leave the flimsy footwear and sky-high heels behind, comfort and versatility are what you should take along with you. Whether you’re on a faraway adventure, at the closest beach that offers pristine sand, or, um, just walking over to your favourite nearby café, you can still do it with one of these: a pair of trusty Birkenstock sandals.

BIR_SS17_PS_020_sRGB_small BIR_SS17_PS_019_sRGB_small

Everyone knows how comfortable a pair of Birks are – made in Germany, its footbed is anatomically-shaped and moulds to your feet so you won’t tire even after long hours, definitely worth investing in. As for these EVA sandals, they come in a bunch of shades and are made from a high-quality elastic material that keeps the design extremely lightweight. There are plenty of reasons why they’re a first pick for a poolside party; they’re waterproof, come with good cushioning, and are also odour-neutral. Bright shades light up entire outfits, while the darker ones have a nice understated matte tone.
And sure, these wardrobe staples are easy to slip on, but style-wise, they’re simple to pull off too – that is, we can see the sandals working for plenty of styles and occasions. Here, we offer up just three, out of the infinite number of ways, to style them. First, a brightly-hued coral pair, rather practically for the beach, where you can just slip them off and jump into the water and still look chic the entire time, or, with the EVA style in a cool khaki shade, perfect for a low-key jeans attire. Then again, you can always opt for the classic sandals, with the cork bed that we’re all familiar with, though this time paired with a stylish outfit that’s great for laidback weekends. It’s high time you put your best, and most fashionable, foot forward.

Take a Sneak Peek at the iPhone 8’s Brand New All-Glass Design

Is there any phone on the planet more highly anticipated than the iPhone 8 right now? Well, probably not. Rumours of Apple’s new flagship were already rife at the start of the year, with talk about the removal of the TouchID, as well as the exorbitant price that consumers can expect to cough up.
Still, we were pretty much kept in the dark as to how the new phone’s design would actually look like. Till now, that is. Thanks to a hands-on video by serial leakers OnLeaks and tech site TigerMobiles, we have received the clearest look of the iPhone 8 yet. And here’s the video to prove it:

The video, which features a dummy model crafted based on leaked factory 3D CAD drawings, shows a slick-looking iPhone 8 engulfed in a gorgeous all-glass display. As suggested from earlier reports, the new phone is slated to have a bezel-less, edge-to-edge infinity display, pretty much like Samsung’s Galaxy S8.
A ruler also shows the dimensions of the phone as 143.50 x 71.03 x 7.46mm, which would make it bigger than the current iPhone 7. Just to be clear though, these are only rumours; Apple is still testing out different prototypes and nothing is finalised till the company makes an official announcement.
For now, this is a good indication of how the phone will actually look like, and if it turns out the way we think it will, this is one gadget to start saving up for, pronto.
In other tech news, Samsung releases the Galaxy S8 in millennial pink.

If you are a fan of Taeyang and are one of his 7.4 million Instagram followers, you would have noticed that Taeyang has a thing for flowers and daisies, in particular. We’ve seen him plant fresh blooms into his black laced-up boots more than once, and brands sent him bouquets of flowers that included his favourite daisies for his birthday. It’s a pretty well-known fact among his legions of fans. And now, the daisy will become the theme of his first ever fashion collection in collaboration with Italian brand, Fendi. *SQUEALS*

Trust Us: Highlighters Should Go On The Inner Corners Of Your Eyes

Inner corner highlights are so underrated. Our first instinct after cracking into a new pan of highlighter — apart from oohing and aahing — is to instantly have it fan-brushed onto our cheekbones. That does make perfect sense, considering how our cheeks take up the most surface area of our face. As we’ve mentioned, possibly over a hundred times, having on highlighters (yup, plural) can really add that additional touch of radiance to our complexions; but highlighting isn’t just limited to making cheekbones pop.
The inner corners of our eyes deserve the same amount of love, because having a pop of colour in that area serves to not only bring attention to your peepers, but it also helps brighten and liven up tired eyes. You can very well have on only mascara, and a dab of highlight right smack at the tips of the inner corners does wonders to enhance your gaze.
But why stop at the typical silvery shades, when there’s literally a whole rainbow of colours when it comes to highlighters? Take a leaf out of makeup artist Patrick Ta’s book, and soon you’ll want to keep experimenting with having unconventional colours in your inner corners. It’s a nifty tip that’ll work with casual everyday makeup, or Saturday night glam. You’ll have to try it to believe it!

OPPO’s Latest Phone Gives You Picture Perfect Magic

A decade. That’s how long it’s taken OPPO to establish itself as a bona fide tech giant.
Previously, the Chinese company dabbled in MP3 and MP4 players, but all that was a long time ago. Today, it produces some of the most advanced smartphones in the world, with its latest and greatest invention being the R11 – a phone that OPPO claims has the best camera in the market.

r11-&-plus-组合---黑砖2

That’s a bit of a long shot, because there are other brands with brilliant cameras too. But the R11 is definitely up there with the best of them. For instance, this sleek-looking gadget sports a crystal clear 20-megapixel plus 16-megapixel dual camera on its rear; with a 2x zoom feature to get all those teeny details in the frame without losing out on quality.

There’s a portrait mode as well, which isn’t as good as the iPhone 7 Plus’s or Huawei P10 Plus’s in our opinion, although it’s sufficient enough for replicating the fake ‘bokeh’ effect that seems to be so popular these days. Oh, and it has a sweet 20-megapixel front camera that lets you take great selfies too. Plus, there’s a beauty option that ensures you won’t need to head into Meitu as often for last minute touch-ups.

So in terms of taking photos, this is one slick sharpshooter. As for other specs, the R11 comes with a medley of decent features, such as an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip for processing power, as well as a 5.5-inch display that’s hunkered down in solid Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
All this makes the R11 a very good mid-range phone that’ll definitely give you a bang for your buck. Add to the mix a beautifully designed curved body that’s just 0.27-inches thin and a gorgeous colour scheme of gold, black and pink (not available in Singapore), and you’ve got a phone that’s real easy to be proud of.
oppo_r11_gold

oppo_r11_black

If you’re interested in scoring the phone, here’s a neat pre-order incentive for you. Every order of the R11 comes with a free engraving service, but that’s not all. For the first 300 orders unlocked, you’ll receive complimentary movie tickets, while a total of 500 orders unlocked sees you getting snazzy new Bluetooth headphones, for free too! As good a deal as it gets, eh?
The OPPO R11 is retailing for $699. Pre-orders can be made now via www.oppo.com/sg. Phones can be collected this Saturday, July 1, at the Suntec concept store.

Retro Gaming Consoles You Can Still Buy Today

It’s official. 2017 has seen the return of old school gadgets like never before. Nokia re-launched the 3310, and Samsung even brought back the flip phone, albeit both in modern capacities.
As for gaming, well, let’s just say that gamers aren’t only excited about brand new consoles like the PS4 Slim, the Nintendo Switch, or the Xbox One X.
Here, we list down some of the oldest game machines you can buy today (do take note that some of these aren’t in production anymore, so they are true blue vintage items).
NES Classic Edition

nintendo_nes_classic_edition_4

Ah, the NES Classic Edition, definitely one of our favourite gaming consoles. Back in the day, it let us enjoy classic games like Donkey Kong, Kirby’s Adventure, and Mario Bros. If you want to relive those fun memories you can get an official console with 30 built-in games via Lazada for a pretty reasonable price of $299. Not too shabby for a bit of nostalgia, eh?
SNES Classic Mini
SNES_Classic_Mini

Here’s the one everyone has been talking about lately. Considered as one of the greatest video gaming systems ever made, Nintendo will officially re-launch the Super NES Classic Edition on September 29 later this year. However, it’s been so popular that most pre-order sites have completely sold out. There’s also no word of a Singapore release yet, but we’re keeping out fingers crossed.
Atari Flashback 7 Classic Game Console
Atari_Flashback_7_Classic_Game_Console

The Atari Flashback Game Console can be considered “newer” than other gaming systems, since it was released as late as 2004 as a modern version of the Atari 2600 and 7800 models. The main difference is that it uses built-in games rather than ROM cartridges. Right now, the easiest model to score is the Flashback 7 from Qoo10 for $105, which is really not a bad deal at all.
Neo Legend Arcade Cocktail Table
Neo_Legend_Arcade_Cocktail_Table

How many video game systems can be used to place coffee and play games at the same time? None, not unless you want them spoilt. That’s where the 80s Table comes in. Designed for seated gaming, this multi-purpose table lets you play up to 60 classic arcade games in their original format, such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. Do be warned though, it’s going to cost you a bomb since it’s so unique. You can find one at neo-legend.com.
SEGA Genesis
SEGA_Genesis3

SEGA may now be letting you play its classic games on your smartphone for free, but it’s all about those feels right? For that, there’s always the SEGA Genesis, aka the Mega Drive – SEGA’s third and most successful console of all time. Previously, it was available on platforms like Shopee and Qoo10, although it’s currently out of stock.
Hyperkin SupaBoy
Hyperkin_SupaBoy

Remember when handheld consoles were all the rage? Yeah, we do too, and we miss them like crazy. It’s not as if smartphone games aren’t great. It was just nice to play games without receiving social media notifications or WhatsApp messages. Want to go back to those times? Why not try out the SupaBoy, a gaming system by Hyperkin that’s inspired by Nintendo’s Gameboy. Get yours today via Qoo10.

It Seems Like the Minions Are Busy Designing for BAPE and PUMA for Upcoming Collaborations

Partnering with major brands like McDonald’s, Fujifilm and luxury luggage company Away, is only just the beginning of the Minions’ plans for world domination. They just don’t know when to stop and in fact, they won’t. If the Minions were real, their schedule will probably be packed with world tours, meetings and even more brand partnerships.
So far this year, the Minions have conquered the lifestyle products and now they are moving on to apparel. Streetwear lovers will be ecstatic to know that the mischievous yellow characters are now teaming up with streetwear labels BAPE and PUMA.
Announcing the collaboration on Instagram, BAPE’s Baby Milo will join hands with his new-found friends for the upcoming collection. Although the full details and what will be included in the collection is still unknown, expect to see a range of graphic tees, hats and even more hoodies. In the Instagram post, the Minions are seen wearing blue camo overalls while Baby Milo puts on his new goggles with a yellow suit underneath the same blue camo overalls. Their previous collaboration saw the brand create a Minions hoodie that zips up all the way to the hood, perfect for those who desire to be an undercover Minion. Perhaps a yellow and blue camo hoodie this time?

A post shared by A BATHING APE® OFFICIAL (@bape_japan) on

PUMA will also be joining in the fun to come up with a collection “made for mischiefs”. The lineup is available for both adults and kids, so families and fans of all ages will be able to find something they like. Stuart, Carl and Kevin are clearly taking all the credit for the adult range, seeing how their names are plastered all over, on oversized sweaters, zip hoodies and T-shirts. The Minions are also leaving their mark on a bomber jacket, with a yellow circular motif that resembles their goggled eyes. As for footwear, the PUMA Clyde gets an all-black suede treatment with a pop of yellow Minion graphics on the toe, tongue and inner liner. On the other hand, the Disc Blaze comes in white with Minions print found on the tongue and inner liner. Complete the look with the PUMA x Minions backpack that is made of a combination of suede and leather with Minions detailing.

For the kids, the PUMA Basket takes on a different version, with the playful Minions replacing the laces with ba-na-na print straps. The kicks are also available in a yellow laced version which comes with coordinating blue Formstripe and Minions illustrations on the upper. A variety of apparel for the young ones also includes track jackets, t-shirts, sweat pants, bagpacks and snapbacks, all of which features some form of the Minions and their signature yellow and blue colour combo.

For those of you who have already watched Despicable Me 3 in cinemas and were left wanting to bring the Minions back home, these apparel collections should probably make up for it.

These Disney Princess and Monsters, Inc. Lip Smackers are an Ode to Our Childhood

We all know that Lip Smacker are the best in the game when it comes to concocting sweet-smelling lip balms and collaborations with fun-loving characters. Like seriously, they even made us swoon over Darth Vader when they brought him from the dark side to… the light side? You’ll get what we mean when you see this Star Wars pack that they released early this year, which is still available, by the way.
However, Tsum Tsum’s latest collaboration is giving us tsum nostalgic feels as they celebrate #TBT with Disney. Joining Mickey and Minnie Mouse this summer are Disney princesses Ariel from The Little Mermaid, and Frozen’s Queen Elsa. Being the first two princesses to have their own Lip Smacker, we certainly do hope it will be the beginning of more Disney princess collabs (because it is just wrong to stop at two).

Screen Shot 2017-06-29 at 2.22.08 pm

Joining the lineup are partners-in-crime Sulley and Mike Wazowski from our childhood movie, Monsters Inc. The dome-shaped lip balms look absolutely adorable especially when one-eyed monster Mike is stacked above a shrunk version of Sulley.
Screen Shot 2017-06-29 at 2.27.06 pm

And of course, Lip Smacker are back at it again with the punny names given to the lip balms. We’re assuming Elsa’s Icy Snow Queen is a cool refreshing mentholated lip balm while Ariel takes you under the sea with her tropical Mermazing Grapefruit flavoured one. For those who have a thing for sweet treats, Sulley’s Cookies & Scream and Mike’s Monster Sundae will probably leave you smacking your lips to satisfy your cravings.

Blue Highlighters Aren't As Scary As They Look

In our recent roundup of the freshest holographic highlighter launches, we chanced upon an uncanny trend that has been silently bubbling among beauty brands. Have a quick scroll through those palettes with iridescent pigment, and you’ll realise that apart from the running theme of unicorns and mermaids, there is this one colour that has been repeatedly appearing in our palette picks.
Blue.
Different hues and tones of blue, in fact. Some of them fall a little more green, others have lilac reflects, and a couple of them silver-based. Naturally, they aren’t always the first-picked when it comes to an everyday highlighter choice; why else would shades like rose gold and champagne sell so well? But as random as blue might seem, there has to be a reason for the (not-so) coincidental colour pick across brands.
Popping on a blue highlight, depending on the type of blue selected, exhibits the same effect as how a lilac highlight would. Basically, they help brighten your overall complexion. Purple is increasingly being accepted as a conventional highlighter hue, so if you’re one who prefers a “thrill factor” — like how a colleague puts it — blue is for you.
Ahead, a couple of ways to rock a blue highlight:

We’d never have thought blue highlighter would go so well with a red lip. You don’t necessarily have to match it with a blue eye look; a typical warm brown eye will work as well — the pop of blue will serve to balance and contrast against the warm tones present.

Never mind if you’re not keen to embark on the journey of having a streak of blue on your cheekbones (yet); turn instead to the inner corners of your eyes. Having a dab of blue right at the tip instantly brightens and livens up the look of your peepers, and just like how wearing a blue-based lipstick can help your teeth look whiter, the same theory applies on the eyes — it’ll enhance the white parts, allowing for a fresher and rejuvenated gaze. (Even if you only had three hours of sleep the night before.)

A pastel blue highlight can be an everyday glow! They work especially well for the cool-toned beauties out there; just remember to keep things clean and simple with an adequate amount of warmth on the other parts of your face.

But if you’re ever in the mood for a themed look, no harm trying blue as an option. We’re particularly enjoying that ombré lip, and blue highlighters with a green tint work best for folks with a yellower skin undertone.
And to help you get started, some of our blue highlighter picks:

The Latest PUMA Basket Heart DE Is The Most Attention-Grabbing One Yet

For real though, PUMA is launching new designs on their sneaker silhouettes faster than you can say “PUMA Basket Heart”. Yup, the design on rotation this time round is once again the Basket Heart, where after their boyish-chic take on the denim-on-polkadot style, the footwear brand has decided to clad their kicks in patriotic wear. They had the embroidered stars and stripe thing going on for them, to commemorate the upcoming 4th of July, but why stop there — when you can so for rogue (and rouge) with the chunky laces of the footwear?

And that’s exactly what PUMA did. Fans of the sneaker label who are willing to flaunt their kicks’ brand in a heartbeat can now do so in great style; the Basket Heart now has their signature chunky knitted lacing — well, laced with the brand’s logo all over. You really can’t miss it even if you wanted to.
The first drop of the Basket Heart DE comes in a bright firetruck red, courtesy of the Toreador Red leather that covers the sneaker’s upper. The PUMA stripe is a milky cream hue, while the midsole balances out the punchy hue with a stark white. Still attention-grabbing, all the same. (Though we’d like it if the entire sneaker was a solid red; that’ll be pretty cool, yes?)

Blue and black colourways will follow soon after the release of the red — so you’ll still have dark neutrals to fall back on, should brights not be your cup of tea. But hey, we’re more than likely want to cop the red ones most, since supermodel Cara Delevingne made them look so, so, so tempting.
The PUMA Basket Heart DE will be available in the States on July 6, and in Europe on July 27. It’ll be available online at at selected PUMA stockists.

We're Finally At The End Of The Road For Asia's Next Top Model

So… here we are. Eleven recaps later, and we’re at the last one. How does it feel? Bittersweet, because while we are maybe, possibly, a little tired after three months of drama and expecting unexpected things, we’ve grown a lot more attached to this show and its cast than we thought we would.
Last week, the show’s biggest antagoniser (and crybaby) Clara was eliminated, and we finally have our Final 3. A combination that isn’t at all surprising, based on what we’ve noticed over the past episodes. Tu consistently refusing to bow down to her physical weaknesses, and delivering her fiercest poses for the camera each week; Shikin with her edgy appeal and mastery of how to give her best poses for each shoot; Maureen defying everyone’s expectations and constant put-downs to land herself into the top 3.
The three models head back to the model house, and here’s where the girls first are able to properly reflect that, this is it – the Final 3, and they’ve made it so far! “I’ve always told myself that I’m going to prove Clara wrong,” says Maureen. “I’m so glad that she saw that I deserve to be here.”  We’re reminded of all the times when Clara, and to be fair, quite a few of the other contestants, called Maureen out for not deserving to make it so far, all because of that supposed boring “pretty face”, and indeed, we’re glad she’s proving all her haters wrong.

Throughout this episode, there’s constant talk of Maureen making it all the way here despite being the youngest, shortest, and least experienced. The constant repetition feels a little tired after awhile… but we guess it’s just to emphasise what a feat she’s achieved.
Model Mentor Cara G McIlroy appears on video, and it’s to say goodbye! She can’t stay to judge this episode, so in her place will be former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, who will finally back after not appearing since the premiere episode. Speaking of judges, the girls also reflect on the whole Xiao Qing revelation, that while they all thought the undercover judge was indeed competing against them, they were at least forced to step up their game.
As the girls sit in the living room of the model house, the camera suddenly cuts to footage of a group people walking in. We can’t tell who they are just yet, but it seems like quite a significant group of people. Turns out… it’s the girls’ family members and friends! Maureen’s aunt and uncle, Shikin’s mother and sister, and Tu’s friends come bearing tearful hugs, and it’s such a nice treat for the three of them, after so long of being away from home and all that is familiar (no WiFi, no contact, remember?)

It’s a bittersweet reunion, however – due to the distance, not all of their closest family members could be here. Tu asks her friends how her mum is doing, as she was hospitalised just when Tu left for this competition (she’s better, thankfully). Maureen also sheds a few tears over the absence of her dad.
There’s not much time to be sentimental though, because the last-ever Cindy Mail is here! “It’s time to go back to your rooms and rise up as a symbol of pride for your country,” it says. The girls know immediately it’s going to be about traditional outfits, and they are proven right, as they meet Cindy and Yu Tsai at the photoshoot location. It’s not that straightforward a shoot, though; “It is stylised and avant-garde,” says Yu Tsai. The girls sport glitter brows and lips and facial jewellery, and are supposed to strike high fashion poses in their nations’ traditional garments. Cindy provides direction, while Yu Tsai is behind the lens.

Tu, wearing a traditional Vietnamese áo dài paired with a majestic headpiece,  struggles a little with the weight on her head initially. But she soon breaks out of her shell, and has the judges practically screaming in excitement with the fierceness of her poses. Shikin also struggles with moving in the restrictive baju kurung, and her lack of experience with avant-garde shoots. She recovers soon enough though, and the judges have nothing to complain about. Maureen looks very girly indeed in the Filipino traditional dress of the baro’t saya and the stacks of pearls she’s wearing, but once in front of the camera she becomes almost… feral. She easily nails the shoot.

After a break with the fancy Neutrogena light masks, the girls make their way to the National Gallery, for the final challenge. Fashion show director Daniel Boey tells them they are going to “be fashion statues, coming to life on the runway”. Yes, of course we’re ending all of this with a bang and staging a proper fashion show – the girls’ family and friends are going to be cheering them on in the audience as well!
But… that’s not all. The other 10 contestants are back! And the finalists are exhilarated to see all the familiar faces – past animosities have dissipated by now as there are reunion hugs all around. No time for catching up though, because it’s straight to preparations for the fashion show they have to pull off.

The “Renaissance Muse” fashion show kicks off. And the girls are wearing Xiao Qing’s designs, pieces from her fashion label X.Q.ZHANG! The girls do two sequences, with one outfit change, and the rest of the contestants forming the background. Cindy Bishop herself closes the show in a dramatic black dress and headpiece!

Finally, results time, in an emptied-out National Gallery. This week’s judging panel is made up of, of course, Cindy Bishop and Yu Tsai, who are joined by Pia Wurtzbach, Ruby Adler, model booker from STORM Model Management, and… our very own Editor-in-Chief Adele Chan!

Shikin steps up to the plate first. Yu Tsai said that nerves were evident in her face at the start of the runway show, but by the second act, she came into her own. The other judges echo his opinion; Cindy also says she looked uncomfortable at some points.
Maureen’s up next, and Cindy says there was an “aura” about her. Our boss thinks otherwise, however: she says she wasn’t feeling Maureen’s walk. But this is balanced out by Yu Tsai and Ruby Adler, who have only nice things to say about her performance. As for Tu, Pia says she came off a bit too strong at some parts; Adele says her walk looked a bit too posed too; yet Cindy is all for it.
It’s just like a typical finale episode of any reality show, where you really can’t tell who’s going to come up tops eventually, because the judges are (deliberately?) offering very balanced out opinions. At this point, there isn’t one girl who seems to have outperformed the rest, and it could be anyone’s game at this point.
Then, the best shots from the photoshoot are reviewed. First up, Tu’s picture is positively magnificent, and the judges take the opportunity to once again praise her never-say-die attitude.

Shikin’s is stunning too, and Cindy and Yu Tsai, who were on set, praise her ability to give them a variety of poses. Adele raises her concerns here, asking Shikin: “But are you too edgy for commercial shoots?” Still, she’s called a “powerhouse” by the judges.

Finally, Maureen’s image is brought up. And, we have to say… it’s breathtaking.
AsNTM5 - Photoshoot_EP13_Final DI_Maureen-169_WM

“That image is exactly what I wanted to see from you at the end of this competition,” declares Yu Tsai. He goes on to say that he never cared about Maureen’s limitations, despite them being talked about practically every episode, as none of these matter in modelling.
It’s now time. The three join hands, and after Cindy Bishop summarises what each of the girls have demonstrated throughout the season, and questions whether all this is enough to get them the crown… in front of their family and friends, the winner is announced.

As our Editor-in-Chief said to her about her photoshoot challenge: “When I look at a model I ask myself, if I put her face on the cover, will she sell the magazine?” And as our latest cover shows, yes, this face sells magazines. Congrats, Maureen! You were the unexpected choice, but the right choice to be Asia’s Next Top Model.

Would You Wear This Deodorant That Smells Like Rosé?

In case your thirst for the Instagrammable, millennial-appropriate, pink-tinted alcoholic beverage has yet to be quenched, here’s another rosé-inspired item you should absolutely consider: rosé deodorant.

native deodorant rose

Yup, you can thank Native Cosmetics for this creation. Set aside your bottle of wine because you won’t need to crack open a new one when there’s this deodorant to keep your pits drunk all through the day. What’s next, a nail polish that tastes like Prosecco? Oh wait, that’s already been done.
Jokes aside, the deodorant actually does sound like a practical offering from the brand. As with all of their deodorants, it’s an all-natural formulation that doesn’t include parabens and aluminum. If you weren’t aware, most deodorants and antiperspirants on the market contain aluminum, which is an ingredient that’s been linked to breast cancer and even Alzheimer’s, so it’s best to keep your eyes peeled the next time you’re shopping along the personal hygiene aisle.
You’ll be able to spot natural, nourishing elements in the ingredients list of this rosé deodorant, too. There’s shea butter, beeswax, vitamin E, coconut oil, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and even probiotics in the mix, so if you’re a green beauty junkie who’s on the hunt for a(nother) natural deodorant, this is something you could consider. You’ll find it in the Native’s Brunch Scents collection alongside mimosa and sangria scented deodorants.
native waitlist

One downside, though. This holy trinity is currently out of stock due to a surge in demand (can we blame them?), so you’re gonna have to join the others on their waiting list until the set is back on virtual shelves.
Native Cosmetics Brunch Scents Collection (Limited Edition), US$30. Available from nativecos.com.
