The A$AP Rocky x Guess Capsule Collection is Coming to Singapore

Back for a third collaboration with GUESS, A$AP Rocky’s latest capsule collection called Ice Cream and Cotton Candy Club (or I.C.C.C.C) is once again inspired by vintage pieces from the GUESS archives and is very much a throwback to the 80s and 90s. While previous A$AP Rocky x GUESS collections offered an abundance of unisex styles, many pieces from the Summer 2017 collection will be exclusively for women.
In addition to the collaboration’s signature stripes and clean pastel palette, A$AP Rocky combines his fond childhood memories of GUESS clothing and his vision of modernising vintage items with new colourways that are really a sweet treat to look at. From pastel pinstripes and logo tees with the Ss’ replaced with dollar signs, to bell bottoms and vintage rocker skinny jeans, these pieces are versatile and easy to mix and match too. Not forgetting swimsuits for the summer, look out for one-piece bathing suits stamped with the notable GUE$$ triangle logo or opt for two-piece triangle bikinis that are also in the classic pastel striped patterns.

In some behind-the-scenes footage of the campaign, Rocky was seen manning an ice cream truck and doling out ice-cream cones. “I think the clothes look amazing – I mean I designed them,” he says of the collection. And they sure are amazing. Watch the retro-themed campaign video led by A$AP Rocky himself and directed by his creative group AWGE, as well as the behind-the-scenes video here:

Here Are The Exact Beauty Products Used On Wonder Woman, And Some Equally Amazing Alternatives

We’re guessing that by now most of us should’ve already managed to catch the first female-led superhero film Wonder Woman, considering all the buzz and hype that it has created online and offline. While we’ll have to admit that the storyline wasn’t exactly the best, DC finally did itself some good with this action-packed movie that we, to a certain extent, did truly enjoy. Most of it had to do with Gal Gadot being Wonder Woman — she looked absolutely badass in the show, and trust us when we say that we were all going heart eyes at her glowing complexion, which we’re dying to recreate.

via GIPHY

Fun fact: Gal Gadot was actually part of the Israeli army for two years, and she was pregnant during the filming of Wonder Woman. Terming her as “more than a pretty face” is truly a severe understatement.
Okay, back to the makeup. Gadot’s look in the film was fresh, with minimal coloured pigment, and makeup was instead used to enhance and bring out the radiance of her complexion. As what Sarah Brock, Wonder Woman’s makeup artist, shared with Peoplestyle — mostly cream products were used to keep the skin looking dewy and young. Plus, no fancy brushes, just good ol’ fashioned fingers.
For The Face

A whole range of cream blushes, bronzers and highlighters were used on Gadot to keep her complexion glowing and dimensional, to complement the character’s energetic personality, as well as preventing her look from falling flat when her skin’s too matte. As such, Brock stayed away from powders, and only used them minimally when necessary.
The magic lies in the cream products used, and the way it was blended out. Little to no brushes were used, and Brock mostly used her fingers to perfectly blend the creams out. Here’s why: the heat from her fingers were able to beautifully melt the products right into the skin, so that pigments don’t just sit on top, but rather, looks like they are actually part of the skin. That’s how she got Gadot to look so naturally beautiful. (Well she is already, but you get us.)

Brock was going for an incredibly natural-looking pout that looks rosy rather than pale, so as much as she wanted to keep Gadot’s real lip colour, some sort of tint had to be used to enhance that pinky tone. It’s nothing too drastic, just a flush of colour that complements and brings out the radiance of her lips. The Chanel Rouge COCO Baume serves as a great moisturiser and primer to prep the lips before adding coloured pigment on. The trick here is to not use a balm that’s too thick or goopy, but rather a lightweight one so that your lipstick goes on well. Another way to cut two steps into one is to use a tinted lip balm, and blot off the excess so that only a glimmer of shine remains.

8 Old School Eateries in Singapore That’ll Easily Transport You Back in Time

As much as we love all the chic new cafés popping up around town, we’re softies for tradition at the end of the day. And that means old restaurants or coffee shops that were around even before our parents were born.
Sadly, not too many of these places exist today, thanks to redevelopment on a large scale. But if you look carefully, there are a few hidden gems in the city that still serve up no-fuss, old school fare, just the way they’ve been served for years.
Here are 8 of our favourites:
Café Colbar

cafe_colbar_singapore

Visiting Café Colbar is akin to hopping on a time machine and setting the destination to British Colonial Singapore, because that’s exactly where this rustic restaurant looks like it belongs. Opened in 1953 as a canteen for the British military, Café Colbar serves up Hainanese-style Western fare, along with a refreshing list of beers and ciders. Oh, and it has no air conditioning too. Authenticity, on point.
Café Colbar, 9A Whitchurch Rd, Singapore 138839. Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 11.30am to 10pm. Closed on Mondays.
Heap Seng Leong

Heap Seng Leong is one of those places you probably won’t find even if you’ve walked past it a thousand times. Okay, we exaggerate. But it is located in a hard-to-spot area near Lavender MRT. Find it however, and you’ll be transported to a 50’s kind of setting where mostly old folk sit down and bore through newspapers. As for the grub, look forward to homemade kaya toast, char kuay teow, and good ol’ kopi.
Heap Seng Leong, 10 North Bridge Rd, #01-5109, 190010. Opening Hours: Open daily, 4am to 8pm.
No Name Teh Sarabat Stall

Located opposite the bustling Kampong Glam Café, No Name Teh Sarabat Stall is a charming coffee shop that’ll take you down memory lane. Chief teh-puller Zamir Ahmad has been whipping up deliciously frothy tek tarik cups for over 40 years, and with his wealth of experience, you’ll be getting the real deal over here. Food-wise, this quaint but crowded space dishes out nasi lemak, samosas, and curry puffs.
No Name Teh Sarabat Stall, 21 Baghdad Street, 199660. Opening Hours: Open daily, 6.30am to Midnight.
Chin Mee Chin Confectionery

Where did our parents paktor before hipster cafés started becoming the norm? Why, at old school confectioneries of course. And old school confectioneries don’t come any better than Chin Mee Chin, a bona fide dining institution that’s been around for more than 80 years. Please do yourself a favour and try out their egg tarts. They. Are. To. Die. For.
Chin Mee Chin Confectionery, 204 East Coast Rd, Singapore 428903. Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 8.30am to 3.30pm. Closed on Mondays.
Seng Hong Coffee Shop

Variety isn’t exactly Seng Hong Coffee Shop’s strong suit. There are only two stalls here after all – one of which serves noodles (kuey teow thng and fishball mee to be exact), while the other is a drink stall with a penchant for whipping up gorgeous plates of kaya toast. It is one of those rare places that you hardly see around anymore, so paying it a visit isn’t such a bad idea.
Seng Hong Coffee Shop, Blk 58 Lengkok Bahru, Singapore 150058. Opening Hours: Open daily, 6am – 6pm. Closed on alternate Sundays.
Tong Ah Eating House

Here’s another establishment that has expertly withstood the test of time. Having been around since 1937 (before freakin’ World War II, mind you), Tong Ah Eating House is a favourite haunt of CBD workers with its convenient location at Keong Saik Road. It may have had a few upgrades over the last few years – air conditioning for instance, but it still retains that vintage essence which made it so popular in the first place.
Tong Ah Eating House, 35 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089142. Opening Hours: Open daily, 7am to 10pm.
Shashlik Restaurant

Shashlik, Singapore’s best-loved Russo-Hainanese restaurant, made headlines back in 2015 when it announced it would be closing down for good, much to the disappointment of foodies. After all, the restaurant was super popular in the 1980s and 90s for its borscht soup and meat on skewers. But thankfully, the shutters have opened up once again, and Shashlik is back in business at its old Far East Shopping centre location.
Shashlik Restaurant, 545 Orchard Rd, #06-19 Far East Shopping Centre. Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday; 12pm to 2.15pm, 6pm to 9.15pm. Closed on Mondays.
Hua Bee Mee Pok

Famed for being the setting of Eric Khoo’s film Mee Pok Man, Hua Bee Mee Pok is part of that dying breed of coffee shops that only sell one dish (it’s pretty obvious so we’re not going to say it). What’s even more unique about this place however is that it’s not just a vintage coffee shop. Hua Bee Mee Pok actually shares a space with chic Japanese restaurant Bincho, which only operates at night. Now how cool is that?
Hua Bee Mee Pok, 78 Moh Guan Terrace, Singapore 162078. Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 7am to 3pm. Closed on Mondays.

Everyone Unites on The Latest Episode of Asia’s Next Top Model, But For One Reason Only

After last week’s Subaru episode saw the shock inclusion of guest contestant Xiao Qing, it was interesting to see how the remaining five girls would react. And in true Asia’s Next Top Model fashion, things got fiery. Real fast.
Everyone was just super pissed that a new competitor appeared out of the blue, and ill feelings were quickly made known. Ah, the weekly b*tch fest resumes.
Xiao Qing, on the other hand, was fully embracing her role as undercover judge (she’s actually the owner/creative director of fashion label X.Q.ZHANG), and she did her best to provoke the girls from the get-go, starting with the catwalk challenge at the new competition location of Sunway City in Kuala Lumpur.
She kicked things off with a confident stride down one of the longest hanging footbridges in the world. And the girls were definitely feeling the pressure, in particular Cindy, who remarked that Xiao Qing looked more like a model walking at London Fashion Week. C’mon gurl, where’s your confidence?
Shikin however was banking on home turf to perform. And perform she did, till an unexpected slip of her top at the end caused her to fumble, prompting a chorus of “oohs” from the judges. Those “oohs”, just so you know, weren’t good ones at all.

150117- EP11_4590

Shikin recovering from her fumble during the catwalk segment

Unsurprisingly, Xiao Qing was announced the winner of the challenge – so far, so good for the undercover judge.
Next up was a photo shoot with Yu Tsai, making it business as usual, right? Wrong. Jaws were left gaping after the shoot was announced; the girls were to pose in ice skates, with the theme of Tropical Winter Wonderland – polar opposites indeed.
That didn’t stop most of the girls from having fun though. Maureen could skate so she took to the ice like a fish to water. Not everyone was that lucky. Tu completely broke down before the shoot started – she didn’t even want to step inside the ring.
150117- EP11_4659

Tu fell over numerous times while skating

Well, Tu’s lack of balancing skills definitely showed, leaving her to work with a medley of awkward poses. In the end, she opted to lie down on the freezing ice rink floor, which was not really the smartest idea in our books.
Shikin, who was super excited after being in Malaysia again, found herself crumbling under pressure following repeated yelling episodes from the animated Yu Tsai. She then began crying after the photo shoot, saying it was the first time she’s cried after one. Still, she did manage to rock a few awesome poses, using a pineapple prop to great effect, so kudos to her.
AsNTM5 - Photoshoot_EP11_Full DI_Shikin_3251 (uncropped)

Cindy however received Yu Tsai’s full wrath, not for the first time this season. When Yu Tsai was berating her for a “boring” performance, she foolishly asked him what she should do to not be boring. Big mistake. Enter another furious stomping episode from Yu Tsai, which was definitely not a good sign.
A knockout seemed imminent for the 19-year old Taiwanese contestant, but Xiao Qing then gave a lacklustre photo shoot performance, which was a big, big surprise considering her strong catwalk showing – a beacon of hope for Cindy maybe?
Check out the full photo shoot below:

Before the elimination round came though, tempers were fraying back at the model house. Xiao Qing was once again crowing about how awesome she was, trying to elicit a reaction from all the girls.
And guess what? It worked. Everyone gave their opinion on Xiao Qing, and in a rare show of unity, all of the girls agreed she was bad news. Shikin’s view was perhaps the most colourful, proclaiming that Xiao Qing is all high and mighty and sh*t. We don’t disagree, it is her job to be that way after all, but the girls don’t know that. So yeah, we can’t exactly blame them.
That said; catfights don’t matter at the end of day, and it’s all about who’s going home.
At the elimination round, all the judges complimented Maureen, who gave a stellar performance at the ice skating rink. Cindy Bishop, in particular, heaped lavish praise on her, saying that even though she’s one of the smallest girls in the competition, she looked 6 feet tall for the ice queen segment.
DSC00912

Maureen was definitely happy with her performance

So it wasn’t really any surprise that Maureen won the best performance of the week, making it three times already this season. Clara was called up next, following a strong but mostly unexciting showing from her.
Shikin was the third to be called up, her face visibly shaken after tearing in front of the judges. Well, she was tearing mostly because she was disappointed with her herself, citing the pressure of being at home as too much. At least she managed to pull through in the end. Tu was called up next in fourth, which didn’t seem like an unfair placing. She did perform pretty badly this round.
Surprise, surprise though. Despite all of Xiao Qing’s confidence and snarky jibes, she landed in the bottom two along with Cindy. Whether it was on purpose or not, we’re not sure, but it didn’t matter in the end because it was Cindy who got the boot. We’re not sure if that’s quite a fair judgment, considering Tu was horrendous during the ice skating photo shoot, but we’ll leave that up for you guys to decide.
DSC00988

Cue the weekly group hug

So will the girls continue their hatred of Xiao Qing? Will hot favourite Maureen land the crown? The only way to find out is to catch up on all the developments on next week’s episode of Asia’s Next Top Model.
Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 airs every Wednesday at 9pm, only on Star World (Starhub TV Ch 501/Singtel TV Ch 301). asntm.com

Pat McGrath's Upcoming Matte Lipsticks Are Our Current Must-Haves

Whenever Pat McGrath launches a new collection, we’re pretty sure it becomes the number one item to buy on every fan’s MUST-BUY list. If not, can you really call yourself a true makeup junkie? Proclaimed by Vogue’s Anna Wintour as the most influential makeup artist in the world, McGrath has dropped cult product launches spontaneously and in very limited quantities at that. It’s no different this time. Unveiling the latest LUST: Matte Trance lipstick collection on Instagram, these covetable bullets are available to purchase on 14 July 2017 and are limited editions as well.
Compared to her previous glitter lip kit, Lust 004, which is the ultimate lip kit out there by the way, and her intergalactic smokey eye kit, Dark Star 006, the new matte lipsticks are definitely more wearable. But that’s not to say it’s nothing out of the ordinary. The makeup maestro said in a press event that the matte will not feel like concrete, possibly hinting at the drying formulas currently on the market.
She adds on: “Most lipsticks, even mattes, are a little greasy, but the Lust MatteTrance shades almost have a powdery finish; in fact, they feel and look like pure pigment, the payoff is incredible”, and you best believe it when it’s coming from the most sought-after MUA. This collection was also years in the making, to finally achieve just the perfect matte formula every beauty junkie will love. It was also revealed on her Instagram account that the LUST: Matte Trance made its debut at the finale of Prada’s Resort 2018 show.

The bullet lipsticks come in 9 down-to-earth shades in a gorgeous black-and-gold tube with a gold lip motif. The lipsticks are classified into three groups – The Batch: Skin Show, The Batch: Colour Blitz and The Batch: Vicious Venoms. The Skin Show is a threesome of terracotta-brownish nudes, the Colour Blitz are for those who love their bright reds and lastly the Vicious Venoms, a trio of sultry darks.
McGrath explains: “When you package them together, it allows you to mix the colours and create ombre and other special effects.” Three of the nine shades are especially special as they are named after her muses: ‘Omi’ – which is under the nudes selection, is named after Naomi Campbell, ‘Elson’ – part of the bright reds selection, is made for model Karen Elson and McMenamy – belonging to the dark shades, was specially created for 90s model icon Kristen McMenamy.

6 Quick and Fun Nail Art Hacks You Need to Try, Pronto

With nail art trends back in full force, you’re probably paying close attention to the tips of your fingers now more than ever, probably with a stronger need to flaunt your latest DIY manicure on Instagram. Hit the nail on the head, haven’t we? Well, if you need a little inspiration in that department, H&M Beauty has some quirky ideas up their sleeves and they’re a breeze to achieve.

SPLAT ATTACK

Splatter expert

If you’d like to unleash your inner Jackson Pollock, then you’ll be pleased to know that all it takes is a drinking straw, some nail polish remover and cotton rounds. Oh, and you’re gonna wanna dial down your OCD for this. Start off with a base coat, then pick out your favourite colours, then dip the straw into your polish and blow it onto each nail. Repeat that with as many colours as you please and use a remover to clean off the excess before sealing it in with a topcoat.

CELLOPHANE AWAY

Simple cellophane

Here’s how you make a DIY manicure look expensive and chic AF. Coat your nails in a base formula and allow that to dry before you swipe on the gold polish. When the polish is still damp, crumple up a tiny ball of cellophane paper and press it onto each nail to create a brushed gold effect. You can even dip the cellophane in another colour (as shown above) and dab it onto your talons for a little contrast.

CUE THE CONFETTI

Ready confetti

Looking for the ultimate party nails? Look no further. Stock up on some coloured tissues and use a hole punch to create confetti that’s actually just tiny tissue paper circles. Coat your nails in a metallic gold or silver, and when the polish is still wet, grab a pair of tweezers to layer on each circle to create different patterns. Feel free to cut up the circles, too. When you’re done, go over each nail with a clear top coat to hold it down.

TWO-TONE CHIC

Hey ombre

Remember the minimalist manicure that makes your nails seemingly longer? Well, here’s a fancier take on that. Here’s what you’ll need to create an ombre-striped nails: white polish, two other shades of your choice, a makeup sponge (preferably one that you intend to throw out), and scotch tape. Tape your nails horizontally or vertically to create a space for the nail polish. Then, mix the white polish in with the other shades before using the makeup sponge to swipe through the colours and over your taped nails. Remove the tape once it’s all dry and finish up with a top coat.

THE WHITE STRIPES

The white swipes

Nothing screams rebellion more than a laissez-faire (or shall we say, lazy?) attitude towards beauty. This one’s the simplest of the lot. Start off with clear polish as your base, then take a clean angled brow brush (again, preferably something you plan on throwing out soon) and dip it into white nail polish. Do two quick, simple brush strokes across your nails and seal it with a top coat. Told you it’d be easy.

ALL FANNED OUT

Fanout

A fan brush comes in real handy in this look. Paint your base colour of choice over the whole nail and wait for it to dry completely. Then, half of the nail with another colour of your choice before sweeping the fan brush across like so to create an artistic stripe. Make sure you do this one nail at a time – there won’t be much point if every half-nail you paint dries up completely. Likewise, finish it all off with a top coat.

Gucci and Jared Leto Join Forces to Change Gender Stereotypes About Masculinity

Jared Leto belongs to that rare breed of human beings that make you go: “what, he’s that old?” Yep, that’s right. The Academy-award winning actor turns 46 in December this year, but it seems as if the universe itself wants to keep his good looks intact. Time just doesn’t seem to the affect the man.
So it wasn’t really any surprise when Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele roped him in to be the face of the company’s new fragrance, the Gucci Guilty Absolute.

KV_GG_ABSOLUTE_133_V1

After all, the brand new perfume marks the continuation of Gucci’s ‘A New Dawn’ campaign (which Leto was involved in as well), kick-starting the company’s push to celebrate modern men who don’t conform to gender stereotypes.
But it’s obviously not just his dashing good looks that landed the guy the gig. One look at him, and you’d know he is the definition of the modern man. In Gucci’s dictionary, that means traditional gender stereotypes are thrown out the window. Masculinity becomes feminine, and yet sexy at the same time.
gucciguilty

Nothing exudes that better than the Gucci Guilty Absolute. Equipped with the time-honoured skills of maître parfumeur Alberto Morillas, the new fragrance gives off a sensuous woody scent that teases the senses without being too overwhelming. It’s a scent that you either love or hate, and that’s what Gucci is bravely going for.
CP_GG_ABSOLUTE_133_V1

Still, nothing is overdone here. The perfume retains a sense of male traditionalism – leather is the key ingredient, while the bottle is inspired by a hip flask and the box made out of cigar paper.
All of this makes it a perfect gift for the modern gentleman, which can be anyone from your brother to your husband. But we say dad deserves it the most, because really, he is the ultimate gentleman, right? And Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday after all, so do yourself a favour and don’t end up as the guilty party.
Gucci’s Guilty Absolute perfume, $125 (50ml), $167 (90ml), $192 (150ml). Available now at the following department stores: Takashimaya, BHG Tampines, BHG Bugis, Robinsons JEM, Robinsons Raffles City, Robinsons Hereen, Metro Paragon.

THEY New York's F/W 2017 Collection Is A Work Of Geometric Art

There’s really not much that we can debate over this — these sneakers from THEY New York are the epitome of geometric ingenuity. We always do have a special place for low cut kicks in our hearts, ever since our younger, punker, Converse days (still love you, Converse); and it’s really no wonder that sneaker brands would want to cash in their own iterations of the versatile silhouette.
Take THEY for example, the New York-based luxury sneaker brand with a penchant for fuss-free Japanese minimalist designs. They’ve taken every minimalist’s love for geometric shapes, and perfectly incorporated them into the body of the sneaker, for a subtle yet sharp accent that has successfully differentiated their kicks from the many out in the market. This Summer, they released an exclusive collection of pure monochromatic, minimalist goodness.

http---bae.hypebeast.com-files-2017-06-they-new-york-2017-fall-winter-collection-6

The Circle Low is what we’re most drawn to — it’s clearly a simple design that’s come a full (semi) circle; harmoniously bringing together the beauty of a classic silhouette and an accent that makes the sneaker so wearable, yet still incredibly distinctive. It must be something to do with the perfect circular perimeter of the semicircle that extends to the end of sole of the shoe that just makes it pop. Those who want an even more straight-to-the-point highlight might want to consider the Triangle Low, where the semicircle is artfully replaced with a cutting edge triangle.

http---bae.hypebeast.com-files-2017-06-they-new-york-2017-fall-winter-collection-4

As for the other style, the Two-Tone Low, designers have taken the liberty of sectioning off a chunk of surface area from the back of the shoe — something that’s not quite conventional. It’s a bold and refreshing way of re-inventing a classic style, and we sincerely do look forward to more innovative designs by THEY New York.
All these sneakers come in a monochromatic palette of black, white, beige and blush. Prices start at US$259 for a Circle Low in Canvas White-Black, available at theynewyork.com.

The Internet is Now Throwing A Hairy Chest Swimsuit At Us

Wanna make heads turn when you head to the beach? Well, look no further because there’s a new swimsuit on the market that will help you achieve just that. We are talking about the “hairy chest” swimsuit that had the internet go “WTF” just a few days ago. If you have no clue about what we’re talking about, here’s the swimsuit that made the internet LOL while some questioned the existence of it:

A post shared by Beloved Shirts (@belovedshirts) on

Ironically, this one-piece suit is called the Sexy Chest One Piece Swimsuit and it features realistic chest hair all over the front and back. It is offered in three different shades (fair, tan and dark) so that it matches seamlessly with your skin tone and comes in six sizes (XS to XXL).
On the brand’s website, it states that “Beloved is a brand that says it’s okay to wear pizza on your clothing. Or anything else you want, really.” While we are all for embracing your body hair and feeling comfortable in your own skin, we are not sure if anyone could really enjoy their time at the beach with so many people staring. But it turns out, quite a few people are actually rocking the swimsuit and really, it’s all just for laughs.

Make 'em say WTF 🌎FREE US shipping 👌🏻Link in bio

And although this cut of swimsuit is typically worn by females, this guy proves that males could wear it too. This could actually be the perfect gift for Father’s Day, especially since the screenprint of the body seems to look like the ultimate #dadbod.

If you’d like to flaunt your summer bod in a more flattering way, the brand offers other cute one-piece selections as well. We might not go for the Hairy Chest swimsuit, but we won’t mind wearing the Sexy Chest Tracksuit (yeap, they did not just stop at swimsuits) for slumber parties. After all, it’s a conversation starter and will surely bring laughs to everyone in the room.

The Easiest Way to Work the Rose Eyeshadow Trend

When it comes to eye makeup, we tend to steer clear of colours and are often drawn to a standard black and grey palette like a moth to a basic flame. We get it, though. The flamingo pink look isn’t for everyone, but there’s an option out there that shows us a flattering new way to wear pink. Yup, the answer’s in the title: rose eyeshadow.

laniege beauty shot

Gorgeous, right? The deeper shades of pink infuses a sultry sophistication to an otherwise boring smokey eye, and the iridescent finish only ups the level glamour here. It’s not difficult to see why we’re currently obsessed with this. If you’re tempted to give this look a go, then let Laneige serve as your final push. The K-beauty brand has just released their Ideal Shadow Quad, which comes in 10 offerings, and we’ve got our eyes on one of them that’ll help us achieve that coveted rosy eye look.

The highly-pigmented eyeshadow formula lets it glide on like butter and it lasts – something that other eyeshadows on the market fail to do. Combining various shades and textures in a single palette, it allows you to play up your peepers in just a couple of swipes. No clumps or creases with this one either, the velvety texture lets it go on smoothly. Starting with a clean eye that’s prepped with moisturiser or primer, dust the light peachy pink hue all across the lid before you dabble in the rose shades. Don’t forget to add a touch of burgundy to the outer corners to your eyes for the ultimate evening look.

I Tried The 3CE Treatment Hair Tint On Light & Dark Hair, And Here Are The Results

Contrary to how much I wax lyrical about temporary hair dyes being the godsend for non-committal hair makeovers, I myself, have never personally gotten down to actually dyeing my hair. At all. I’ll admit that most days I don’t quite find the need to aggressively alter the colour of my hair since I already do have a mane that’s naturally chestnut brown. But just two months ago, I got my first dye job — blonde highlights — and while that popped my hair dye virginity, it also opened up my hair to a world of… colour. Considering the number of pieces that I’ve wrote for NYLON on temporary hair tints (see Missha, AprilSkin, Lime Crime and 3CE — yup, those are me), I decided that it’s high time I tried one out on myself, just so I can finally (literally) indulge in my own writing. I mean, it’s not going a be a long term relationship anyway, so why not go for a quick fling?

Now, all the above mentioned temporary hair tints are *still* not available in Singapore, but I had the good fortune of being gifted a tube of the 3CE Treatment Hair Tint by a friend. (More on where you can purchase this later.) I got mine in the colour Rose Brown. Basically, a pinky rosewood colour. Self-explanatory.

APPLICATION
You get 50ml of product in a single tube, which I reckon isn’t enough for an entire head of colour. For me, I only wanted pink highlights, so that didn’t take up much dye. In fact, I’m quite sure I only used about a third to half of the entire tube.

IMG_5037-1 copy
The dye came out as a reddish-pink hue.

Also, the dye smelt heavenly. There was no scent of ammonia at all, and in fact the product did smell a little like rose syrup. Colour went on smoothly, everything was pretty fuss-free and easy. I let the dye sit for about 20 minutes (as recommended) before washing it off.
Now, the wash-off was truly… comforting. My blonde highlights were a tad bit dry because of the bleach and I was afraid that the dye would fry it even further. But it instead conditioned my highlights. My hair felt so smooth and soft when washing off, and I truly feel that this is the best state that my hair has been ever since getting bleach involved. Lots of pigment washed off, but the colour stayed on pretty well. I had my hair blow-dried and was really quite impressed at the end result.

RESULTS

collage3
L-R: Before, right after, and day after.

Evidently, there is a difference. Because my natural hair colour wasn’t that dark to begin with, the dye did tint it a flush of rose brown too. My highlights were a vibrant shade of pink after the first wash, but on my third wash (last image) the more vivid parts had faded off slightly, but evenly, to a softer, muted tone.
3CE mentioned that the dye will last for a week or so. At press time, I’m on my fourth day of my dye job and it’s still holding up well.

THE HAIR TREATMENT TINT ON DARK HAIR

collage
The pink dye came off extremely faint on dark hair.

Since there was half a tube of dye left, I decided to rope my sister in, and have her try out the the tint on her hair. She has black hair, but the kind that shows up as a dark brown under the sun. We decided upon a quick dip-dye style for pink tips.
As mentioned previously, 3CE has been quite upfront about the effectiveness of their dye on darker hair, so I was already half-expecting the dye to not show up. And true to their word, hardly any colour could be seen under fluorescent light. Even when under the sun, the pink hue comes off as a very, very, very subtle tint to unsuspecting onlookers.

FINAL THOUGHTS
There’s really nothing to not like about the 3CE Treatment Hair Tint. It’s really all about managing expectations. The dye does do its job when used on a canvas that’s slightly lighter / bleached, and the colour does turn out true to images and imagination. You really can’t expect bright, pastel, muted colours to show up on dark hair colours; that just defies logic. Overall, it’s a good product. I wouldn’t mind trying out other colours.
Here’s where you can get your hands on these dyes. The easiest way would be from stylenanda.com, but you’ll have to incur a US$20 shipping fee. A cheaper option would be Airfrov, where prices are as low as $13.

5 Easy, Chic Makeup Looks For Every Facet of Your Personality

With new beauty trends popping up practically every week, we can’t help but feel overwhelmed by the number of fresh looks to try. Not to mention, finding flattering ones to fall back on can be one hell of a challenge when we’re absolutely pressed for time. Thankfully, Sasa’s got our faces sorted for each day of the working week. To present Sasa Look of the Day #SASALOTD, the beauty retailer has enlisted the help of their June Cover Girl, rising star Jannassa Neo (@jannassa). If this aspiring local looks familiar to you, that’s probably because she’s the leading lady in Toggle’s popular series The Breakup List, starring opposite Benjamin Kheng. Today, she’ll be showing us how to rock these effortless makeup looks.

Look 1: Sophisticated Elegance
Here’s a classy look that’ll keep you looking polished and poised for formal occasions and date nights. Attaining this level of sophistication involves thick, fluttery lashes, so curl them well before coating them in mascara. Then, dust a couple of neutral shades onto your lids for a softer take on the classic smoky eye before topping off your cheeks and lips with an earthy, brown-toned red.

4. Color Combos All-In-One Face Kit, now $20.90 (with free Sasatinnie Retractable Eye Definer worth $7.90)

Look 2: K-Pop Beauty
When it comes to K-beauty, dewy skin is always in. Start your base right with a moisturising foundation to leave your skin looking fresh before adding a touch of coral to your cheeks and lips for a youthful glow. Complete your look with a few coats of mascara for that doe-eyed expression, and brush those brows in place with a tinted brow gel.
2. Kpop

4. Chosungah22 Real Cheek Smoother, now $18 (UP: $31)

Look 3: Little Sweetheart
Similar to the “K-Pop Beauty” look, the focus here should be plump, youthful-looking skin with radiant flushes of colour. This time, let those sweet hues of pink take the lead. Prep your base with a lightweight BB cream, then bounce a little colour on your cheeks using a cushion blush. Next, swipe a delicate rosy shade onto your lips and finish off with a little eyeliner for added definition.
3. Sweetheart

Look 4: Zesty & Spunky
There’s a little bit of rockstar in all of us, no doubt. To channel your stage persona, try experimenting with various metallic shades of eyeshadow and deck your lids in them for statement-making eyes. Go ahead and pack on some volumising mascara on a little more drama. Don’t forget to match your lips, too – line them in a gothic plum shade for the ultimate look of rebellion.
4. Spunky

For this look, try:
1. Cyber Colors SPF50PA+++ Rosy Glow CC Cushion, now $39.90 (UP: $59.90)

4. Collistar Professional Lip Pencil, now buy 2 get 1 free (UP: $29)

Look 5: Sultry Bombshell
Now, this look comes pretty close to “Sophisticated Elegance”, but here, we’ve turned up the heat with touches of bronze and shimmer in all the right places. Start with a matte base before adding on warm, earthy tones to your lids. After you’ve sculpted your lashes with mascara to sky-high heights, buff on some bronzer into the hollows of your cheeks, a little around the chin area, and around your temples. Last but not least, add a swipe of classic red lipstick to pull it all together.
5. Bombshell

For this look, try:
1. theBalm Highlite N’ Contour Palette, now $55.90 (UP: $69.90)
2. Cyber Colors Allure Oil In Rouge, now 50% off for 2nd purchase (UP: $35.90)
3. Cyber Colors Ex Volume Waterproof Mascara + Cyber Colors Lash Dance Eyelashes, now bundled at $39 (UP: $49.80)
And there you have, five effortless looks that are just as easy to copy. But of course, no #LOTD can be perfected without having healthy, glowing skin.
#SASABeautifulSkin
It’s true, you can’t create a beautiful painting without a beautiful canvas, so start drenching your skin in some much-needed moisture before dolling yourself up. Leaving on a hydrating mask is one of the quickest, easiest ways to get you glowing, but for lasting results, invest in a brightening range to help even out your skin tone and texture for softer skin days ahead.
6. Beautiful Skin

7 Smart Home Gadgets That’ll Help Make Life a Whole Lot Easier

For better or worse, technology is advancing at a rapid rate. Gadgets are getting a whole lot “smarter” and that includes the stuff in our homes too. The tough part is where to start, and what to go for? Well, we’ve got you guys covered with our list of 7 smart home gadgets that’ll help make life easy to live again. These devices might not come cheap. But hey, you get what you pay for. Here goes:
Amazon Echo

71VbRZX0nTL._SL1000_

No smart home gadget list would be complete without the Amazon Echo. It may not be a new product by any means, but Amazon’s versatile voice-activated smart home speaker definitely comes under the category of crème de la crème. Just by talking to it, the Echo will help you stream music, provide recipes, and even call an Uber for you. What’s better is that this is all just the tip of the iceberg, and the Echo gets smarter with every app. Just take note, it may be a little tricky operating this device, as it’s not officially supported in Singapore (yet).
Amazon Echo, US$139.99, available via www.amazon.com.
Fizzics Waytap Draft Beer System

Ask any beer lover, and they’d all tell you the same thing – great beer always comes in draft form, no matter what. Which is why the Fizzics Waytap Draft Beer System is a godsend. This boozy contraption uses micro-foam technology to improve the flavour, taste, and mouth-feel of canned or bottled beer, so whatever you’re drinking is the maximized potential of your beer. A must-have house party item, we reckon.
Fizzics Waytap Draft Beer System,US$119.99 to US$169.99, available via fizzics.com.
Somabar: Automated Craft Cocktail Applicance
Somabar2

Can’t make a cocktail to save your life? Not to worry. The Somabar’s got you covered. This Wi-Fi connected kitchen appliance is actually a personal robot bartender that helps you make drinks via an app, which in our opinion is pretty darn useful, especially if you’ve knocked back a few stiff ones already. Professional mixologists may cringe, but for drink making-challenged folks like us, this is perfect.
Somabar: Automated Craft Cocktail Applicance, US$429, available via somabar.com.
Tile Mate
tile_mate

Have you ever gone through the tedious process of losing your keys in your own home? Ditto. Which is why Tile Mate, a smart keychain, is such a lifesaver. This petite device actually acts as a sort of GPS tracker, which you can locate with a supporting app. All you need to do is attach it to your keys (or any other thing really) and voila, you can locate your “lost” item within a 100-feet Bluetooth range by calling it. Best of all, there’s no charging needed. Like the Amazon Echo, Tile Mate is not available in Singapore, so you’d probably have to go through a third-party to have it delivered to you.
Tile Mate, US$25, available via www.thetileapp.com.
Dyson V8 Fluffy
dball

Okay, so Dyson’s latest cord-free vacuum cleaner, the V8 Fluffy, isn’t as “smart” as some of the other products on this list. But it’s definitely smarter than the average vacuum cleaner. How so? The V8 Fluffy makes household cleaning incredibly easy through its powerful suction force and detachable cleaner heads designed for various situations, like getting dirt off a carpet or clearing out hard-to-reach spaces. Oh, and it has an engine that runs faster than a Formula 1 car (we’re not kidding).
Dyson V8 Fluffy, $999 to $1,099, available via major departmental stores like Best Denki, Courts, and Harvey Norman. Visit www.dyson.com.sg for more information.
Philips Hue

Our house lights aren’t something we really give much thought to. We reach back home; switch them on and off, end of story right? Well, not really, at least not if you’re looking at things through Philips’ perspective. The electronics giant has been dishing out smart bulbs and lamps over the last few years, re-defining what lighting is supposed to mean in a home – for instance, you can control your lights wirelessly through a smartphone or even customize how the colour temperature turns out. Cool stuff, indeed.
Philips Hue, $89 to $556, available via www.harveynorman.com.sg and www.lazada.sg.
Samsung SmartThings

If all your smart home gadgets are little cogs that help your life run smoothly, then Samsung’s SmartThings is the glue that binds them all together. Think of it as sort of ecosystem, where products like smart light bulbs, locks, and doorbells are controlled by a singular entity; in this case, a software that allows you to sync all your devices together in order to set instructions, like determining when they switch on and off, depending on your daily routine of course.
Samsung SmartThings, $202.90, available via www.qoo10.sg.

The Marc Jacobs x Vans Collab Should Be Up for Display

We’ve seen a a plethora of brands collaborating with Vans to take on the classic slip-on sneakers, but we’ve never quite seen something as artistic and avant-garde as this latest collaboration with Marc Jacobs. As part of Vans’ latest stunning project, 17 artists from around the world each got to put their own unique twist on a pair of Marc Jacobs x Vans sneakers. And they absolutely crushed it.
Some of our favourites include designs by RuPaul’s Drag Race alumnus, Milk, who covered the plain white canvas shoe with coloured push pins (not exactly the safest pair to walk in but they are not meant for wearing anyway) that represents all the places he wishes to travel to. Another pair that we would love to cop are the ones designed by Sarah Tanno, who is the personal makeup artist for Lady Gaga and also a Marc Beauty global beauty ambassador. In fact, her version of the shoes are created using materials found in her makeup kit, to achieve these mixed media pair of sneaks! Talk about resourcefulness!

However, only the original design – a white slip-on with black lines across the shoe, illustrated by artist Julie Verhoeven, will be available for purchase though in very limited quantities, 125 to be exact. Each pair comes with a set of Marc Jacobs x Sharpie pens to further customise the shoes.

Sadly, they will only be stocked in stores located at New York City and Japan on 16 June 2017. There’s currently an online giveaway going on to, where there are 10 pairs up for grabs, though you have to be a legal U.S. resident to be eligible. Damn it! So unless you are travelling to either country, it looks like you’ve just gotta suck it up and marvel at them online. Here you go:

I’m Heading to Seoul for Chanel and Really Looking Forward to It (Obviously).

By Adele Chan

The first thing I ever bought from Chanel was a “double C” logo pendant necklace for my mom; that was back in the 90s when I was a teenager and that small pendant was probably the only thing I could afford in the store. Today, it’s no secret that I’m a fan of Chanel. There’s always a little piece of the brand somewhere in my daily wardrobe; it can be an emoji brooch on my cardigan, a classic pair of black boots that I’m really proud of (I queued an hour in Hong Kong just to enter the store), or in today’s case, my liquid eyeliner. So I’m particularly excited about an upcoming trip to Seoul next week where I’m going to discover Chanel through the latest chapter of the “Mademoiselle Privé” exhibition.
Google “Mademoiselle Privé” and on the first page of results you’ll see links to the first exhibition held in London at the Saatchi Gallery back in 2015. It was an immersive experience where viewers journey through the origins of Gabrielle Chanel’s creations, with an impressive display of Haute Couture, High Jewellery, and the iconic Chanel No5. On the 23rd of this month, the next instalment of the exhibition opens at the D Museum in Seoul. The focus from the first exhibition will still remain, but will be enhanced with a brand new concept that includes “digital dynamism” and “Korean touches” (says the press release).
Here’s the teaser:

And here’s another teaser, but cuter:

I can’t say exactly what’s going to be digital, dynamic or Korean about this showcase, but I will find out next week. So follow us on Instagram and Facebook @nylonsg to see live updates from my preview in Seoul.
Also, this chapter of the exhibition is exclusively showing in Seoul, so if you happen to be travelling there this or next month, I recommend adding this to your itinerary. Admission is free, but booking is required through the Mademoiselle Privé app.

Also, it just so happens that Singapore Airlines is running Fare Deals right now, and Economy return tickets to Seoul are from $598. Here are the fare conditions:

And there’s always Zuji. I just checked and return flights on Thai Airways starts from $337.
