Sanrio Characters Set to Visit Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 from May 26 to June 26

Good news Sanrio fans, you’re in for a real big treat in the next few weeks. From May 26 to June 26, you can look forward to catching all your favourite Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, and Gudetama in life-sized action as they take over the Departure Hall at Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 as part of a “Nordic Adventures” showcase.
The showcase will feature a total of seven Sanrio characters, with a slew of cool activities lined up for fans to experience the “Nordic” lifestyle. For instance, there’ll be a video display on the Northern Lights, a Viking ship-inspired gallery, as well as an indoor snow luge by Snow City, so there’s plenty to look forward to over here.

Of course, each Sanrio character will be dressed in their best Nordic winter outfits; and you can get to take photos with 3-D displays of them. There’ll also be exclusive meet-and-greet sessions with all of the characters, while limited edition gift redemptions can also be made at the exhibition.
The main highlight of this month-long showcase however has to be the character-ranking contest, where you can vote for your favourite Sanrio character online. Six lucky voters (one for each character) will be chosen to witness the unveiling of Changi Airport’s most popular Sanrio character on June 26. But what’s even cooler is that the winner will score a free trip for 4 to Puroland Japan!

Kicking off the festivities will be a Song & Dance opening ceremony by Hello Kitty & Friends on May 26, while for the meet-and-greet sessions, a minimum of $60 has to be spent at Changi Airport on the day itself to redeem a pass. In other Kawaii-related news, 7-Eleven has launched a series of super adorable Sanrio and LINE mugs in Singapore.
For updates on the activities, visit Changi Airport’s Facebook Page here.

Adidas Gives The EQT a "Glitch Camo" Makeover

Remember when we said way back in January that the Adidas EQT was going to be one of the biggest sneakers of 2017? Yeah, well…that statement hasn’t exactly held up — despite being equipped with both Primeknit and Boost (AKA the holy grail of sneakers), the resurrected silhouette has only managed to generate a decent amount of hype among die-hard sneakerheads, and has received a rather lukewarm reaction from the rest of the community. If there’s one thing that can people on board, however, it’s the colour pink, and this new “Glitch Camo” colourway just might be what the the EQT needs to take itself to the next level.

A post shared by @sneakerprophet_ on

Though we only have a single picture of the sneaker right now, there are a few things that we can already confirm — the kicks will once again be equipped with Primeknit and Boost, and the back panel and sole will rock a timeless black to contrast the pink that runs through the entire upper. Of course, the star of the show is undoubtedly the eponymous “Glitch Camo” effect on the front of the shoe, which features a messy mix of black and pink for an unique and eye-catching look. We’ve seen a similar effect on last month’s “Shock Pink” NMD’s, so this could potentially be one of the next big looks in Adidas’ design arsenal.
There’s currently no word on when the EQT Support “Glitch Camo” will be released, but considering that images are already starting to surface we can probably expect to see it hit store shelves in the comings months (or even weeks, if we’re lucky). Will this colourway raise EQT up to NMD standards of hype? Probably not, but it might be enough for people to start taking actual notice of the silhouette.

8 Adorable Tech Accessories That’ll Melt Your Heart in an Instant

Chances are, you wouldn’t go “awwww” after holding a smartphone for the very first time. Tech gadgets aren’t meant to be cute after all. But hey, that’s now changing thanks to a slew of super adorable products that really know how to turn on the kawaii. Here are 8 of our favourites (don’t be surprised if you feel your heart melting soon):
Elodie the Unicorn Diffuser

590b1f4e0785a

Ah, Elodie the Unicorn Diffuser. Always cute, always spewing out mist from its tiny golden horn. While this mythical mare’s pastel-themed colour scheme is already eye-catching, the fact that it can also display different coloured LED lights like your very own rainbow makes it a must-get item for any household.
Elodie the Unicorn Diffuser, retailing for $66.40, available for pre-order via www.grouphunt.sg.
Arlo Baby
ABC1000_family_transparent

Security cameras are usually a little creepy, although it’s hard saying the same about the Arlo Baby. It does whatever a good security camera is supposed to do – it records in 1080p HD, it has night vision, and you can view its footage from anywhere you go. But the main thing here is its adorable bunny design, which makes it look more like a toy than a surveillance tool. The Arlo Baby also comes in cat and leopard designs.
Arlo Baby, retailing for US$249.99, available via www.arlo.com (only in US).
Leka
kxhq7j0deejmvoqtz7fv

The Leka isn’t just cute. It promises to improve the world like never before. How so? Well, it’s basically an interactive and multi-sensory robot that’s designed for children with special needs such as autism, and is filled to the brim with fun and educational games that helps boosts motor, cognitive, and emotional skills, sort of a like a therapeutic tool for parents and therapists to use.
Leka, retailing for US$790 onwards, available for pre-order via www.indiegogo.com.
Kuri by Mayfield Robotics
17505404_309238456161794_2667268434553890059_o

Meet the standout star of this year’s CES. What Kuri does, besides looking like the friendliest robot since Big Hero 6’s Baymax, is let you play music, monitor tasks, or watch your home when you’re not around. The biggest difference between Kuri and other smart home devices however is that Kuri has a “personality”, learning from you with its speech recognition to perform tasks more efficiently.
Kuri, retailing for US$699, available via www.heykuri.com (only in US).
Skinnydip Cat Headphones
Skinnydip_Rose_Gold_Kitty_Headphones_1

Have you always wanted to be a cat? Well, now you can get in touch with your inner feline with Skinnydip’s Zara Martin Rose Gold Kitty Headphones. Sure, there are plenty of better headphones out there in the market than this gold-tinted gadget. But if sound quality doesn’t bother you too much, and all you want to do is to look like a cat, then his device will be right up your alley.

Old School Macintosh iPhone Case
Mac04-1024x683

Who cares if technology is advancing at a rapid rate and bots will replace us all sooner or later. All we need in our lives is a little bit of retro from time to time, which is what you’ll definitely get with the “M4”, a boxy-looking phone case that’ll transform your iPhone into an old school Macintosh. For even more feels, you can add to the mix a Bluetooth keyboard (don’t let this replace your actual laptop though).
M4, retailing for US$34.99, available via www.elagostore.com
Cozmo
cozmo_ecosystem

When it comes to robot toys, there’s none smarter than Cozmo. This bleeping little cutie pie is actually a nano supercomputer that has the ability to perform a variety of complex tasks. But what’s even cooler is that you won’t need a background in robotics to operate him. Cozmo comes fully built straight out of the box, so all you require is an iOS or Android compatible device, and you’re good to go.
Cozmo, retailing for US$179.99, available via anki.com (only in US).
Bluetooth Droplet Speaker

True to its name, the Bluetooth Droplet Speaker is completely waterproof, and makes for a wonderful musical accompaniment to all your shower-singing sessions. Operating it is easy. You connect to it via Bluetooth (duh), and you adjust the volume and tracks from the buttons on the outside. Still, it wouldn’t be cute without its petite water droplet shape.

The Gorgeous YSL Cushion Compact Just Got Really Sparkly

If you’re going to irrationally spend your money on just one new cushion compact you might not actually need this year, let it be this: YSL Beauty’s Le Cushion Encre de Peau, or more specifically, the very sparkly #MyJewelAndI edition, which launches today.
Yup, like the original Le Cushion wasn’t gorgeous enough already with it’s lacquered black case, YSL Beauty went and covered it in glitter to mimic a star-sprinkled night sky. The brand says it’s “intended for application in full public splendour”, and we’re absolutely certain you’ll attract eyeballs by whipping this out, whether on the MRT or at the bar.
The product on the inside’s the same: the ultra-lightweight liquid formula that takes inspiration from the Fusion Ink Foundation. This glittery special edition is sold as part of the Sparkling Cushion Collectors’ Set, which also includes the Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow primer.

Used together, they’ll undoubtedly leave you with a glowing complexion, but we’re not going to pretend that the case isn’t the main attraction here. It’s the way the glitter flecks dance and sparkle under the light that bring out our magpie tendencies and make us want this so bad, and yup, we’re pretty much just in this for the packaging. Don’t be afraid to admit that you are too.

Grab and Tinder's Promotion Will Have You Sharing a Ride With Social Media Personalities

When you think of the term “iconic pairings”, a few things immediately come to mind — “Beauty and the Beast”, “Gin and Tonic” and “Fish and Chips” are a few that we can think of at the top of our heads…but Grab and Tinder? Now that’s one that we definitely haven’t thought of before. Yup, for their first Southeast Asian collaboration the popular social app is partnering up with the ride-hailing platform to bring you closer to a host of social media personalities, and if that sounds like something you can get on board with (pun totally intended), well…read on, we guess.

A post shared by Brenda Ng (@brenwho) on

Here’s how the promotion works — from 11am to 4pm tomorrow, seven social media personalities will be roving around Singapore in GrabShare cars, and if you choose the special “New Faces, New Places” option while booking a ride you just might get picked up by them, giving you the chance to mingle while en route to your destination. The fun doesn’t stop there, however — at the end of the day each personality will choose a passenger they’d like to know better, and Tinder / Grab will arrange and entire day out for the two centered around their interests. Sure beats scrolling through Facebook and Instagram as you drive from your house to Orchard Road.

Of course, the promotion wouldn’t be very enticing if the social media personalities in question weren’t…y’know, likeable, but thankfully Tinder and Grab have amassed a pretty varied group of people that should cover most bases — there’s food / fitness enthusiast Victoria Cheng, fashionista Brenda Ng, and travel junkie Brandon Teo for those with a little #wanderlust, to name a few. There really isn’t any harm in giving this promotion a try, so if you were planning on taking a Grab tomorrow you might want to click on that special option…and who knows? You just might make a new friend while you’re at it.
Grab x Tinder “New Faces, New Places” Promotion, 19th May (tomorrow!), 11am to 4pm. Grab is available for free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

M.A.C's New Colour-Changing Lip Oils Leave the Prettiest Hint of Colour

We’re no strangers to colour-changing lip products. From IT Cosmetics’ Vitality Lip Flush and Tarte’s LipSurgence Skintuitive Lip Tint to Lipstick Queen’s cult-favourite Frog Prince lipstick and their newest yellow-to-coral Mornin’ Sunshine lipstick, you’d think the trend would slow down just a tad, but there’s a magical new lip offering from M.A.C Cosmetics that’s only driving the colour-changing movement forward.

Off the bat, the packaging of M.A.C’s Hint of Colour Lip Oil looks strikingly similar to their Lipglass glosses, except the lip oils are much more translucent and neon in colour. From what we’ve seen on social media thus far, all four shades of the gel oil formula seem to impart a glossy sheen and leave a pretty popsicle stain behind. A lip gloss and stain in a bright ass tube? We’re sold.

Similar to any colour-changing makeup, the hues in the tubes aren’t always indicative of what shows up on your lips. The shade Pale Princess (yellow), for example, turns into a custom shade of pink depending on your body’s pH, instead of transforming into a coral shade. We’ve got our eyes on that one, as well as Candy Drop, a grape hue that leaves a gorgeous berry stain on the lips. These lip oils are absolutely perfect for those who could do with a ’90s gloss revival right about now.
M.A.C Cosmetics Hint of Colour Lip Oil, $38 each. Available now at M.A.C stores and counters.

This Quick Eyebrow Hack Gives You Full Brows In Shortest Time Ever

Now we’ve successfully lured you in — because like us, you probably want full, bushy brows that get the Cara Delevingne nod of approval. We feel you, and we got you. This hack requires literally the least amount of effort — we can assure you, way less than that whole hour you spend perfecting your twin arches daily.

e28407ce9b03e41129877398ca250da7.jpg

Okay, maybe not an hour. But all that effort needed to precisely fill in sparse areas, to carve out a fleeky arch, and making sure it looks natural enough to be passed off as a “my brows but better” look… may be quite a turn-off sometimes. Especially if you are someone who needs to dedicate yourself to early mornings every day, which is why sometimes we step into the office with wonky brows and end up feeling all self-conscious for the rest of the day. Nope, just nope.
So yes, we’ll stop rambling and reveal our quick solution to all the lazy girl woes — this hack is really none other than… eyebrow wigs. Now, before you go all ugh and head straight for the button that closes this page (while rolling your eyes, no less), do hear us out. Granted that not many celebrities wear eyebrow wigs — well, we won’t really know for sure — but how do you think they manage to change their hair colour every so often? With wigs no doubt. Just ask Kylie Jenner.

#sold 😂

A post shared by Hung Vanngo (@hungvanngo) on

The same theory goes for eyebrows. If you’re one to have really little (or no) brow hairs, and drawing them makes the overall look too… fake, for lack of a better word; try instead faux hairs — they’ll end up looking really natural.
All you have to do is to stick them on. An extra effort of highlighting the brow bone and applying brow gel may be made, but otherwise, that’s all you have to do to get fuller brows.

And if you need any more affirmation, Jeffree Star did sport a pair of brown eyebrow wigs during his photoshoot for his Androgyny eyeshadow palette; his MUA Nick literally just pasted them on, and he instantly looked like he got his brows waxed and threaded every month. Celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo, who has clients like Emily Ratajkowski and Katy Perry, also recently put up a video on his Instagram featuring eyebrow wigs.
Plus, just like how conventional wigs work, these eyebrow wigs also serve as a great option for folks who have lost their hair while going through chemotherapy, or have hair loss issues that they desire to counter. If you think about it, eyebrow wigs, though “weird”, are really not that much of a deal.
Stores that sell costume outfits tend to stock these, though you can try your luck at wig specialist places too. Just remember to get a pair that suits your hair and skin tone for it to look as “natural” as possible.

Why These Affordable Liquid Foundations Have a Ridiculously Long Waiting List

There are a few things we’d wait patiently in line for, and yes, most of them may be food-related. We’ve all felt that sense of delayed gratification after being stuck in an endless winding queue for hours, ultimately getting what we waited on for aeons. This is why we can totally imagine the ecstasy those tens of thousands of people must feel when The Ordinary’s liquid foundations come back in stock.

the ordinary

If you’re unfamiliar with The Ordinary, don’t worry – I was too, until my homegirl Asia Jackson uploaded a first impressions video on their Serum Foundation recently, raving about how awesome it is. Based on that, the water-like formula seems super easy to blend out, and a little goes a long way to get that semi-matte finish, so it’s really no surprise to find out that this has become a real hit amongst those who have dry and oily or combination skin. True to its name, its lightweight texture also creates that lit-from-within glow – perfect for those on board the “no-makeup makeup” bandwagon. They seem to have upped the price to US$10.90 (S$15) from its previous US$6 (S$8), which honestly, is still dirt-cheap when it comes down to its quality.

Under the care of Deciem, the brand’s parent company, The Ordinary delivers potent active ingredients and medical-grade formulas at absurdly low prices, which is why I felt a little sceptical about this label. Since makeup artists and the beauty obsessed have already given The Ordinary and huge stamp of approval, however, the foundation sure look as promising as they’re hyped up to be. If a heavier coverage is needed, the brand also has its Coverage Foundation, which is a creamier alternative that comes with greater pigment, the same lightweight feel, and a more matte finish – best for those with combination to oily skin types. This one priced slightly higher compared to the Serum Foundation at US$11.90 (S$17) – likewise, it’s unbelievably affordable for what it promises to do.
Both foundations are available in 21 shades, which is really impressive since they took note of common undertones like yellow, pink, neutral, and even red. Hopefully, they’ll be expanding their shade range to accommodate darker skin tones too, because evidently, the brand’s already doing something right with their products.
The Ordinary Serum Foundation and Coverage Foundation, $15 and $17 respectively. Available (soon please, we’re dying to try them out) from theordinary.com.

Adidas Takes The NMD Back To Basics With an "Icey Blue" and "White Rose" Colourway

Since its initial release back in 2015, the NMD has been draped in pretty much every colourway imaginable, so it’s no surprise that Adidas has had to resort to increasingly intricate designs such as polka dots and glitch patterns to keep things fresh. There’s something to be said about going back to basics, though (a simple combination of black, red and blue was what launched the sneaker into superstardom in the first place, after all), and it looks like the brand with the three stripes is doing exactly that with their latest iterations of the ever-popular silhouette.

NMD01 NMD02

While technically not part of the same release, these two women’s exclusive NMD’s sure look like complementary opposites of each other — the “Icey Blue” colourway drapes its Primeknit upper in a classic black and pairs it with contrasting baby blue plugs, while the “White Rose” opts for a clean white aesthetic topped off with dusty pink plugs. As it is with most NMD’s, both sneakers rock a white Boost midsole on the lower half, and top it off with a black sole for a finishing touch of detail. Okay, granted we’ve seen similar black colourways before, but if you were holding out for a pair of triple white NMDs, these kicks are definitely a viable option.
NMD03 NMD04

The Adidas NMD “Icey Blue” is available right now at select Adidas stockists such as Finish Line for US$130, while the “White Rose” is expected to hit shelves next month on the 10th of June. Don’t get us wrong — we love that Adidas is always trying to push the envelope when it comes to sneaker design, but it’s always nice to have a timeless look to fall back on every now and then.

Last Night's Asia's Next Top Model Definitely Took An Unexpected Turn

Welcome to Episode 7 of Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5, which officially puts us just before the halfway mark of the season. Eight top model hopefuls are currently still left standing, but we’re still reeling from the fact that as of last week, Singapore officially has zero chances of having one of our own make it anywhere near to the end of the competition.

To be entirely honest, we’re disappointed with Nametha. She did well enough last episode to avoid risking elimination on a non-elimination week, yet she got booted off for flouting the strict no-going-online rules. Wifi doesn’t make the world go round, indeed.
At the opening of this episode, some of the other contestants are still trying to cope with the shock ending of last week as well. For Dorothy in particular, who looked the judges straight in the eye and told them that she felt Nametha should be punished for what she did, dealing with the guilt is a struggle. Not everyone’s upset, however: the twins, who masterminded what happened to Nametha, are full of glee. “I’m so relieved that justice has been served,” says Valerie. “That’s what happens when you pick a fight with us.”
Seems unnecessarily catty, but we guess the stakes are getting higher than ever, so maybe we can’t blame the girls for letting their claws truly come out. We have to move on from all of that though, because Cindy Mail is here, and it bears this message: “Life isn’t perfect, but your outfit can be.” Which means this is going to be a fashion episode, and yup – it’s going to be all about the Zalora clothes.
We start off as usual with the social media challenge, and despite the camera panning to a makeshift runway very excitingly set up on top of the pool in the model house, it’s not about strutting down it. Model mentor Cara G is joined by style icon Kim Jones, and they tell the models that this week’s challenge is to style themselves in Zalora and have their pictures taken… while working in pairs.
KOL10
Australian-British-Filipino fashion influencer Kim Jones with Cara G McIlroy at the social media challenge for the week

Ugh, yes it’s teamwork again. Valerie’s paired up with Dorothy, Veronika with Shikin, Tu with Cindy, and Clara with Maureen. Is this good girl-bad girl kinda setup deliberate? Sure seems like the producers were trying to create some drama, and it worked. Valerie says she has trust issues when it comes to having other people take her photo, which is basically a roundabout way of saying that she doesn’t think Dorothy’s good enough with a smartphone camera. Clara’s claiming that Maureen isn’t giving her enough directions on how to pose, and Tu’s complaint is that Cindy really doesn’t know how to pose; nor does she know how to take photos. Veronika’s struggling with her poses too, and soon gets accused by Shikin of being a copycat. “Bitch, that’s my move,” says the sassy Malaysian representative. To be fair, it’s a rather generic pose…
4U1A7360
You know that annoying friend who keeps making you re-take her #OOTD shots?
4U1A7420
Guess this hand-on-hip thing is a “Shikin move”.

Kim Jones announces that Cindy wins this challenge, and we can only assume that it’s her partner Tu’s guidance that paid off. Which seems unfair to Tu though. Dorothy’s photo scores the lowest, which definitely ominous, given that she was the lowest scorer at last week’s elimination.
4U1A7723
The judges might have liked Cindy’s photos, but we’re not sure we’re 100% on board with her styling…

The second Cindy Mail announces the photoshoot challenge of the week, and turns out it’s not a photoshoot: it’s the first-ever video shoot. We’re whisked away to a beach setting, one that looks like a more secluded part of Sentosa. Dorothy gushes, “I come from the beach, and we’re here at the beach! I’m in paradise!” Um girl, no need for the sweet talk – we all know that man-made landscape ain’t no beach. We’re sure your hometown is much more of the real deal.
4U1A7774
Cara G with Kevin Ou, who’s creative directing the video shoot challenge.

Anyway, what they have to do is shoot a fashion film for Zalora, and the person behind the lens this week is Kevin Ou, well-known creative director and photographer (also a familiar face to us here at NYLON!). To absolutely no one’s surprise, the girls have to remain in the same pairings as in the social media challenge. Cue the frustrated sighs and worried side eye, but then the girls are told that they will have a third co-star: a male model. And suddenly, they’re all squealing.
4U1A7924
With those luscious locks, no wonder the girls found it a challenge to stay focused during this shoot.

The storyline they have to portray is this: together with the male model, pretend they’re three best friends frolicking by the sun, sand and sea. Straightforward, but considering that most of the pairs are pretty far from even friends, we know there’s going to be plenty of awkwardness and tension to be anticipated already.
Indeed, right from the get-go: Cindy’s completely lost with how to pose with the male model, and Tu gets upset that she’s getting dragged down with her (and rightfully so). Kevin gets frustrated as well, and ends up having Tu leave the shoot temporarily so Cindy can be shot alone with the male model – that does help a little, at least.
4U1A8045
So much awkwardness radiating from this one picture.

Dorothy and Valerie’s shoot feels incredibly awkward – but we’d be surprised if they actually did have chemistry, considering how these two have really been at each other’s throats the whole episode so far. They end up continually trying to one up each other, which doesn’t seem to be helping to make the shots any better.
Clara’s tactic is to steal the show by breaking out some dance moves once the camera starts rolling, pretty much completely ignoring what Maureen is doing. Maureen says it’s hard to work with Clara because she’s never a team player, and the two end up just doing their own thing, functioning as separate entities in this one video shoot.
4U1A8174
Clara’s tactic: When in doubt, just break out the random dance moves.

Shikin’s also struggling a little to get in sync with Veronika at the start of their turn. But the two manage to get into the zone soon enough, and fake the BFF vibes pretty well. It is soon very plain that their video is going to be the best one.
DSC00080
This week’s panel of judges: Rayne Reed, Head of Private Labels at Zalora, Cara G McIlroy, Cindy Bishop, and Yu Tsai.

Off to elimination, in front of judges Cara G, Cindy Bishop and Yu Tsai, who this week are joined by Zalora’s Rayne Reed, who’s here to give the client perspective of the shoot. The first pair up for criticism is Clara and Maureen; the judges feel that Maureen didn’t really know how to sell the clothes, but Clara “slayed it”. Guess all that dancing as distraction worked out.
The awkwardness between Dorothy and Valerie on set showed through in the video, plain even to us. “If you’re three ‘best friends’ acting like that – I don’t want to be your friend,” says Yu Tsai. Neither do we.
As we predicted, the judges heaped praises on Shikin and Veronika’s video. Especially on Shikin, who got commended for truly making her Zalora outfit shine (we now really want the floral blue jumpsuit she was wearing in the video, and we’re going to seek it out on the Zalora site right after we write this).
Cindy is told she is extremely lucky to have Tu, who saved her from being a complete flop in this shoot. The editing was another saving grace, by including shots where Cindy thought the camera wasn’t rolling – the only ones in which she looked natural. Tu is also advised to stop trying to help Cindy and focus on her own success instead, something that can’t be more crucial at this stage in the competition.
Once all the criticism is done, Cindy says, with a heavily ominous tone, that she has an announcement to make. It’s double elimination week – two girls are going home. The models’ jaws drop, and ours do too. For once, the cameras follow the girls backstage as the judges deliberate their decision, where the tears flow freely as they grapple with the shock announcement. It’s the twins who take it the hardest, because all of a sudden, the prospect of one going home without the other seems very likely indeed.
The judges finish the scoring, and as expected, Shikin is the top scorer of the week. Veronika is called third, but she moves to the safety zone with no relief in her eyes – she only has eyes for her sister. Her worst fears come true: Cindy is the last person to make it through, leaving Valerie and Dorothy as the casualties of the week.
DSC00217
Definitely did not expect to be losing these two this week.

We’ve never particularly liked the twins, what with their constant need to be more catty than necessary, and especially so last week with the whole Nametha situation. But as we watched the sisters deal with their separation, we couldn’t help but almost feel the tears coming on, because their sorrow was heartbreaking to watch. The slogan “Expect The Unexpected” never rung more true than today.
This also marks the beginning of the second half of the competition, so we can only expect more of the unexpected. Next week, the remaining models will head out for their first go-sees, and we are told to expect a shift in alliances. With the “bad girls room” down to two occupants now, we guess there’s a need for more balance – but apparently it’s going to be Tu who’s moving in. Say what? We’ll be back next week to offer more of our thoughts on that.

This Cushion's One Of The Most Pigmented Yet

I’ve never really been one for cushions. I see most of the options out there as way too sheer, which just doesn’t cut it for my high-coverage preferences. That’s why I use cushions only for mid-day touch ups because they’re obviously a lot more portable than my bottle of liquid foundation; but even so, I more often find myself using them merely as mirrors to check that everything on my face is in place.
Plus, with a continual stream of cushion launches coming in even now, quite some time after this whole cushion revolution started – personally a little surprised that the trend’s still going strong – it’s hard to find a cushion that stands out, and it feels like they’re all kinda the same.
So to be completely honest, when MAKE UP FOR EVER’s first foray into cushions, the UV Bright Cushion, landed on my desk, I almost immediately forgot about it (the nondescript plain white packaging did not help at all). But after a few days, it happened to catch my eye, and I decided to give it a chance, since I am after all a longtime fan of MUFE’s base products (the HD liquid foundation was my first holy grail makeup item) – and the brand was nice enough to engrave my name on the case. How can you resist using a cushion with your name on it?
By Tami Lai

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: As I said, there’s really nothing special about the packaging – just a plain white case with the brand logo printed in black front and centre. I feel like a lot of the times, the packaging of a cushion compact has to stand out to get people to sit up and pay attention, since it’s hard to make what’s on the inside that exciting.

IMG_0003

Still, I open it up. On the inside, the pores of the cushion seem relatively big, and the formula looks more moist than normal. This is usually a sign that it’s more high coverage, which is a promising thing for me.
PROS: MUFE sent the UV Bright Cushion together with a flat-top brush, which I found interesting – brands don’t often give the option of applying the cushion with a brush. I like the idea of that however, as brushes usually are more efficient at application as compared to puff applicators, plus it gives me the option of keeping the puff cleaner for longer.

The Buffer Brush #154S, which the brand recommends applying the UV Bright Cushion with.

Upon application, indeed the UV Bright Cushion gives very high coverage. This is in no way a BB cushion; it’s a full on cushion foundation (which is what the press release states). It goes on quite evenly, and by the end of the day, the coverage’s still decent. The brand says this is thanks to the silicon-coated pigments, which are well-protected from the forces of heat and humidity. Well, the weather the past few days for sure put that claim to the test, and the UV Bright formula did well enough… most of the time. But I’ll get into that.
CONS: In the press release, MUFE recommends applying the foundation with the brush using a “press and spread” technique for light to medium coverage, and with the puff using a dabbing technique for medium to full coverage. I tried both methods, and found that it was quite the reverse for me: I ended up with way too much product on my face the first time I tried to apply it with a brush, and coupled with the intense morning heat, by the time I completed the 10-minute walk from my home to the MRT station, a bit of sweat on my forehead had caused the foundation near my hairline to melt off, turning some hairs white. Not a pretty sight to start the workday with at all. But with the puff, the amount of foundation that went onto my face was a whole lot more manageable.

Top: The UV Bright Cushion applied with the flat-top brush. Bottom: The UV Bright Cushion applied with the puff applicator.

I’m aware that the makeup-melting episode was caused by the fact that there was too much product on my face, plain and simple. It’s just that if you want “light to medium coverage”, applying this with a brush is not the way to go for sure.
VERDICT: The day after that minor makeup meltdown, I gave the cushion a second chance with the puff applicator, and that turned out a lot better. I found that the formula was easier to control that way, since the puff picks up less product with each tap.
All in all, I can see myself using the UV Bright Cushion regularly though, and it won’t be going the way of the countless other cushions that I use once and toss aside, for the sole reason that the coverage they provide just isn’t sufficient for me. It also stays on my face for most of the day, with barely any need for touchups. Hopefully this does well enough to motivate the brand to expand the shade offerings beyond the current 5 options, which span “Yellow Alabaster” to “Warm Ivory”; their liquid foundations have a great variety, and it’d be quite a shame if the shades for this cushion seem so limited in comparison.

Topshop's Summer Collection Makes Us All Wanna Go On A Beach Getaway

Now that Spring’s almost over, and sakura flowers have officially stopped flooding our Instagram feeds, we’ve about to dive deep into the heat of summer — so be warned, plenty of bikini pics coming right up. It’s a funny thing; Singapore’s in a forever-summer kind of situation, so technically we can wear summer attire any time of the year, though the shopping frenzy only starts right about now, when brands start to stock up on swimwear, lightweight clothing, and easy-to-wear separates. Just in time, Topshop gives us some of their best breezy and beautiful picks too, so you’ll feel very, very tempted to plan your next beach holiday.

As you can tell, the campaign images are meant to inspire us to get out and get some sun, and damn are they doing a good job on this. There are plenty of strappy or cropped tops that show off some skin, which vibe on the hot off-shoulder trend as well. Details include girly ruffles and knots, and cold shoulder blouses, on dresses, blouses and skirts, as well as bright shades like a canary yellow or tie-dye red that stands out against scenic white sands and blue skies.

And while we’re fine with flip-flops and board shorts, here’s to looking stylish while chilling by the beach, a total possibility due to the denim pieces, flowy overlays, and patterned cotton shorts you can layer over your swimwear. What we also love is that the collection’s not strictly reserved for the beach — you can wear them while sipping margaritas at a nearby town, while shopping or sightseeing, and other things you do on a beach holiday. Outside of that, when you’re (begrudgingly) back to the daily grind, we see these looks working for the office or weekend jaunt as well.

A wrap dress is a workwear classic, but this abstract print and flowy silhouette can be more casual when paired with colourful mules or sandals, and even serve as a classy cover-up after you’re back from the ocean (our mind’s obviously still on beach holiday mode). This swimsuit, with its little mermaid-like sequins screams stunning beach babe, but wear it with a voluminous skirt, and it functions fine as an eye-catching top. We doubt we need to tell you how to style this bright yellow stunner, it’s perfectly versatile whether you’re boho-chic or rockstar glam.

Since statement sleeves and embroidery were such huge trends in Spring, it makes sense that these will continue for summer too. Topshop gives us a whole load of options, always with a British twist of high-waisted a-line skirts and short collared tops. And gingham, of course.

Finally, you’ll need these shoes and bags to tie your look together. You could go to an actual beach in Bali and Phuket, which is where these roomy totes will come in handy, because there’s always way too much to bring even if you’re spending the day just sitting on the sand. The woven textures across their shoes and bags give off laidback vibes, and having these fun prints will definitely liven up your overall outfit. So you know, time to head out for some sun — even if it’s just Sentosa.

But once you collect five stamps from completing the games and activities, you get to spin a sure-win roulette with prizes including Laneige products, and Korean-themed memorabilia.

3) Stand to win a trip to Korea
The top-spending Laneige member at the roadshow as well as Laneige ION Orchard boutique from 18 to 24 May 2017 wins a serious prize: a pair of air tickets to Korea, sponsored by the Korean Tourism Organisation. Terms and conditions apply, and winners must be at least 16 years of age and be able to travel within the specified travel period.

And on Sunday 21 May, 4pm to 5pm, local lifestyle and beauty influencer Soh Peishi (@speishi on Instagram) and actor Nat Ho will be doing a beauty talk and a skincare-focused Q&A session. Post your questions for them on Laneige’s social media accounts, and you’ll also get a chance to win more Laneige Sleeping Care products during this session.

PUMA's New Prevail Heart Is The Perfect Balance of Sporty And Elegant

The pinstripe might be PUMA’s version of the Nike swoosh or Adidas three stripes, but oversized ribbon laces are another design element that are fast becoming synonymous with the German sportswear brand. The eye-catching statement look first gained traction with the Basket Heart and was further cemented by the Rihanna-designed Fenty Bow Sneaker, and considering how hype those kicks have become, it’s no surprise that PUMA is rolling out yet another pair of ribbon-equipped kicks to keep sneakerheads interested.

Puma01 Puma02

Dubbed the “Prevail Heart”, these shoes look like what would happen if the Basket Heart and Air Max had a baby — while the original ribbon sneakers featured a rather streamlined shape, these kicks rock a much chunkier silhouette that — when paired with the oversized laces — makes it feel both sporty and luxurious at the same time. Shiny gold accents on the lace holes and heel provide a nice pop of contrast to the matte colourway, and the lower half tops it off with a timeless white sole for a clean look that can’t go wrong.

Available in black, white and a lilac-esqe “Halogen Blue”, the PUMA Prevail Heart is available right now, and can be bought online at Titolo for US$130. It looks like PUMA isn’t going to stop until they’ve slapped an oversized bow on every piece of footwear imaginable, but if they’re all going to look this good, we’re definitely not going to complain.

Facebook Has Added Face Filters To Instagram Stories

Well Snapchat, it was nice knowing you. Since last year Facebook has been slowly but surely taking over the instant messaging market with the release of Instagram Stories, WhatsApp Status and Facebook Stories (we’re not sure who uses the latter two, though), but one feature that’s kept the OG platform afloat was it’s signature collection of face filters…until now, that is. Yup, in what was probably an inevitable move the social network has added face filters to Instagram Stories, and it just might be the final nail in the Snapchat coffin.

.
We probably don’t have to tell you how these filters work, because they unsurprisingly function in the exact same way Snapchat does. While the initial rollout only boasts eight filters, Facebook has quite blatantly took some of Snapchat’s best, including bunny ears and the iconic flower crown. At least they had to decency to leave Snapchat’s signature dog filter out of this, but based on their track record we wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if that makes it’s way to Instagram somewhere down the road.
Insta01 Insta02 Insta03

Instagram’s new filters should already be showing up on your phone if you’ve updated the app to its latest version (you might have to close and open the app for them to appear), so the days of taking a photo on Snapchat, saving it, then posting it on Instagram Stories might be all but over. Snapchat still kind of has the upper hand with face swaps and voice changers, but when Facebook adds them in a later update (it’s not a matter of if, but when at this point), well…that ghost icon on our phones might eventually become a thing of the past.

Embrace Your Inner Yayoi Kusama With Polka Dot Eye Makeup

With a ton of fresh Instagram beauty trends saturating the internet every week (seriously, there’s at least one every damn week), we never find ourselves stuck in a rut when it comes to makeup inspiration. Granted, a good portion of them are made for bolder personalities, what with all that holographic sheen, eye-catching colour and intricate design – but hey, that’s where all the fun lies. The same applies to the next trend that’s just got under our radar: Polka dot eye makeup.

Remember the simple dot eyeliner Emma Roberts and Zoe Kravitz rocked earlier this year? Well, this new trend is an iteration of the dot liner, except it’s on steroids now, which is perfect for maximalists. You can spot this trend on makeup artists on Instagram who are a little more than obsessed with pointillism, sprinkling their lids with clusters of dots all along the creases, taking the shape of a winged liner.

These spots are incredibly easy to create too. You can use a nail dotting tool, the tip of a cotton bud, the rounded end of your makeup brush, or reach for an actual paintbrush if you wish to emulate the work of Paul Signac and Georges Seurat. If you have no idea who those deceased men are, perhaps Yayoi Kusama would be a better pop culture reference for this piece. But honestly speaking, we’re absolutely in love with this trend right now.

Polka Dot Cut Crease! • • • I tried to do polka dot nails but they did not work out 😂So! I decided to use my magical fingers and create this polka dot look inspired by @beautsoup I tried the lengthening build-able mascara @julepbeauty @preendotme sent me as part of the #PreenMeVIP #bravepretty program and I love this mascara wand! I would use the toofaced better than sex mascara and around 5 hours into the day my eyelashes would fall straight again even though I would curl my lashes, apply mascara ,wait a few seconds ,and apply mascara again. The mascara wand spreads out my lashes ,and they stayed curled for longer throughout the day! The only thing I would be careful with is the wand when putting the handle part back in, but other than that this mascara does a nice job with spreading out my lashes, and giving a full natural affect to them! I like that because I don't want to apply fake lashes all the time! 😅 The reason could also be because I use @elfcosmetics Eyelash curler and it's a good one but on the inexpensive side..I heard that fancier lash curlers work better? What do you think about it? 🤔 Products used: ⭐️ @anastasiabeverlyhills #dipbrow #pomade @inglot_usa #duraline @morphebrushes #35palette @julepbeauty build-able mascara @maybelline #fitmefoundation #cotyairspun @maybelline #fitmeconcealer @beautyblender ————————————– #polkadots #makeup #makeupblog #makeupporn #makeuplife #makeupartist #makeuptutorial #makeuplife #makeupislife #makeupbyme #kbeauty #kbeautyblogger #beautyguru #beautytime #beautytips #beautycounter #beautyblender #YESmaybelline

A few makeup artists have even used their liquid lipsticks as dot paint, and since it dries matte and stays put all day, you can even forgo the eyelid primer if you want. They’re the easiest to customise depending on your level of sanity preference. Go all out and deck colourful dots all over your eyes to stand in for your eyeshadow, or replace your classic liner with subtle spots that trace along the lashline. Dial it up or down to be bold or discreet – just how we like it.
