RIMOWA Introduces A New Daniel Arsham Suitcase — The Eroded Turntable in Pilot Case

The RIMOWA Pilot Case, designed by the German luxury luggage brand, was originally meant for airline staff, where its compact silhouette meant that the suitcase would fit in neatly behind pilot’s seats. It also opens up from the top, for ease of access while up in the air.

What’s more unexpected though, is how the grooved aluminium case gained a cult following among musicians and DJs in the 90s, who used it to transport records and equipment — a fact that contemporary artist Daniel Arsham was inspired by in his latest collaboration with RIMOWA.

The Eroded Turntable in Pilot Case, launching on 7 October 2022, is the second collaboration between RIMOWA and the American artist, since the last time they put forth an “eroded suitcase”. This time, we see a sculptural turntable housed within a reissue of RIMOWA’s beloved Pilot Case, in silver and black.

As a nod to Arsham’s Future Relics series, of fossilised everyday objects found by people from a future dystopia, the pieces are imagined to be discoveries uncovered from an archaeological site, which explains the rugged nature of the hand-cast turntable, made from plaster and crushed glass.

This sculpture is then nestled within the limited edition RIMOWA Pilot Case, cushioned in a removable protection foam, where the suitcase itself features vintage-style logos stamped across its sleek metallic surface. These recall the stickers typically used by travellers to identify their luggage, and see an exclusive shade of Arsham Green Pantone that adds to the sense that we’re discovering a relic of the past.

“RIMOWA and I share an interest in process, in an object’s evolution over time,” said Arsham. “A suitcase is covered by stickers or blemishes; a sculpture erodes and crystallises. We also both share a commitment to honing one’s craft, as well as archiving.”

Still, this is a modern wheeled suitcase, so we do get the benefits of RIMOWA’s cutting-edge technologies, from their lauded Multiwheel System to a telescopic handle. As added bonuses, each special edition item arrives with an accompanying leather luggage tag, in the same Arsham green, and a pair of art handling gloves to complete that unboxing ritual.

To get a sense of how exclusive this launch is going to be, only 1,000 models will be available worldwide. 500 models in Silver will be  available to customers and fans in Europe, North America, and South America, while another 500 models in Black will be sold exclusively in Asia. Each special edition case also comes with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity card.

The RIMOWA x Daniel Arsham Eroded Turntable in Pilot Case in Silver will be launching 7 October 2022, available at arshameditions.shop and in RIMOWA stores across Europe, North America, and South America and online at RIMOWA.com.

The RIMOWA x Daniel Arsham Eroded Turntable in Pilot Case in Black ($5,720) will be sold on the Archive Editions WeChat MiniProgram (Archive Editions) and in RIMOWA stores across Asia, including at Mandarin Gallery in Singapore.

Channel Peak Spooky Vibes With This Levi’s® x Universal Monsters Fall Collection

The Mummy. Frankenstein’s monster. The Bride of Frankenstein. All hail the herald of spooky season, with three silver screen horror icons, now combined with Levi’s®’ jeans expertise for a terribly fun collection that has us ravenous for more.

If you’ve been looking for a collection that leans towards fashion more than merchandise, this is it. The Levi’s® x Universal Monsters takes its chilling inspiration from three original horror films from Universal Pictures: Frankenstein (1931), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), and The Mummy (1932), each masterpieces in their own right while also famous for ushering an era of monster flicks.

This fresh Levi’s® line-up aims to do the films justice, with denim, tees, tops and accessories, which bring together classic Levi’s® silhouettes with archival graphics from the films’ original posters; these are blown up to mega proportions or arranged in a funky collage, with a black-and-white colour scheme that gives off laid-back punk vibes. What’s even better is how some details come alive in the dark — glow-in-the-dark graphics, for instance, as well as special-edition, co-branded monochromatic back patches and labels, glimmer an eerie green at night.

Silhouettes to look out for include a black rinse Levi’s® Trucker jacket, where an enlarged graphic of Frankenstein’s monster lurks at the back, and a matching pair of black rinse 501® jeans featuring The Bride of Frankenstein. A white Stay Loose Carpenter pant sees a mash-up of Monster graphics across the cargo pant style, screen-printed onto the sturdy fabric, while we see the same print on a relaxed-fit shirt and a Sling bag.

[click on the images below to expand, and for more info.]

The monochromatic colour palette is, naturally, an ode to the black-and-white screen classics, though there are some pops of neon yellow and green, on the reversible Bucket Hat, for instance, or a logo or two that you’ll only notice upon closer inspection. The range also includes a few comfy tees, including a long-sleeve striped style with a contrast crew neckline.

The Universal Monsters x Levi’s® collection, now available at Levi’s® ION Orchard, Plaza Singapura, Vivocity, Bugis Junction & on Levi.com.sg

A Roundup Of The New Skincare Launches That Include Vitamin C Serums And Eye Creams

Talk about keeping up. There are so many beauty — or, just skincare — launches every month that it’s getting hard to keep track of them all. So we’ve sorted them out for you.

Need a powerful eye serum that does away with dark circles and fine lines? There are at least four on our list (Drunk Elephant, AHC), each with specific ingredients and benefits for you to choose from. Going by ingredients? Vitamin C (Glow Recipe, Dr. Dennis Gross) seems to be a hot topic these days, what with its superior skin-brightening and anti-ageing benefits all rolled into one, or maybe you’d like good old retinol (Kiehl’s) and its alternatives (Jung Beauty) working to your benefit.

For those who can’t decide, it’s always a good option to go for serums and moisturisers that improve overall skin health right down to the cellular level (Fresh, Augustinus Bader), which leads to strengthened, resilient skin.

Here are the skincare launches that caught our attention:

Basic Models Has Launched An Apparel Collection That’s All About Model Off-Duty Style

Model off-duty is almost the holy grail of casual style. It’s the kind of laidback appeal models want to channel at castings, with just a simple tank top and jeans for instance, and an effortless attitude that us everyday people would love to emulate. Well, now you can. Basic Models Management, a top modelling agency in Singapore, is celebrating their 10th birthday with a special ‘A Basic‘ collection of casual wear.

Done in collaboration with local clothing label AforArcade, we see wardrobe essentials such as bralettes, oversized t-shirts, pullovers and lounge shirts, which are inspired by the styles of Basic Models‘ current roster of models. You’re probably familiar with some of these faces too, while many of them happen to be NYLON cover girls as well.

Kaci Beh and Layla Ong, for instance, are established across fashion editorials and international runways; Fiona Fussi is the face of Clarins’ global campaign; and Aimee Cheng-Bradshaw, on top of being an adidas and Anessa ambassador, most recently featured across Charlotte Tilbury store fronts for their latest global beauty campaign. And yes, we can vouch that these are pieces they would actually wear to magazine castings.

The collection’s colour palette is, understandably, muted, which makes sense since these are staple pieces you’ll want to mix and match with the other items in your wardrobe. Black, grey, and white reign, though there’s also a small pop of colour with a maroon shade.

One of the most basic items, pardon the pun, would be the A Basic Box Tee, though little details make its casual style work; its made from a mid-thickness cotton jersey, which sits smartly across the shoulders while allowing comfort and movement, with a boxy, oversized cut.

Other versatile pieces include a comfy-looking A Basic Sweatshirt made from a cotton terry fabric, best paired with the A Basic Sweatshorts for a coordinated look. These, along with socks and a cap, are unisex items as well and feature an embroidered ‘A Basic’ logo.

For women, the collection further includes a crop tank top in soft jersey, made to be slipped on since it comes with in-built padding, along with a sleeved crop top, a bralette with the ‘A Basic’ logo on the band, and a sleek tube top and mini spaghetti-strapped dress, both of which are padded and unlined to make for easy wearing.

See the full collection here:

The A Basic Collection, priced from $24 to $45. Available from 28 September 2022 at aforarcade.com.

Basic Models‘ annual open casting returns on 5th November 2022.

Review: The Curiosity Room by TED ‘Escape Room’ Experience At Bangkok’s Marriott Hotel

There are a couple of reasons why Singaporeans love visiting Bangkok — the vibrant city offers an abundance of good food, plenty of shopping options whether in spacious malls or bustling night markets, as well as value-for-money massages. In other words: indulgence. And while we’d typically step into a five-star hotel to unwind, Marriott Hotels presents quite the unusual experience within their luxurious rooms — an escape room.

No, we don’t mean an “escape” from the bustle of city life, but instead, an interactive room experience where you and your friends or family members get to solve a series of clues, in an elaborate game designed by TED’s educational arm TED-Ed.

The Curiosity Room by TED.

Called ‘The Curiosity Room by TED’, it had debuted earlier in August at one of Bangkok’s landmark hotels, the centrally-located Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, with reservations open till 15 November 2022. Currently, the experience is only available at three cities around the world — San Francisco, London, and Bangkok.

If you’re, well, curious about what it’s like to navigate an exclusive themed hotel room, here’s a quick, spoiler-free overview: recommended for families and friends aged seven and up, the immersive experience involves cleverly hidden puzzles among various elements of the room, with a major highlight being an illustration of Bangkok and its famous landmarks across an entire feature wall and cushions. Read on for our full review of the experience.

OUR EXPERIENCE

Bring your brains. That’s the one thing I’d recommend based on our experience of The Curiosity Room. While one might not expect much from what can be considered a curated escape room experience, without the grit and anxiety-inducing nature of a countdown clock, TED and Marriott certainly did not underestimate our intelligence here. The puzzles were appropriately challenging, yet not overwhelming, while you’re free to take your time to solve them over the duration of your stay.

For us, the adventure started the moment we entered the room, which was dressed in red, black, white, and grey, the colours associated with TED, along with an unmissable light-up sign of their logo. A feature wall of Bangkok’s skyline, seen also on cushion covers, also greeted us, and was a nice touch that reminded us that we were in the heart of Thailand’s capital city.

We won’t reveal much so you can enjoy the experience for yourself, but I particularly enjoyed the variety of puzzles we were privy to. These were ranked in terms of difficulty levels, so we had to work our way up, and challenged our different skillsets, everything from a treasure hunt that tested your observational skills, uncovering hidden messages hidden in plain sight throughout the room, to more high-level logic and deduction puzzles.

It wasn’t just a series of numbered padlocks either; the puzzles involved nifty features such as magnets, heat-reactive materials, and electronic elements, for instance, and the smart use of existing features already present as part of the room’s decor made it feel more immersive and authentic to the location.

What I also enjoyed was having a Curiosity Journal in hand while we went about solving the riddles. This was available as both a physical and online guide, which helped with noting down our clues as we uncovered them, while also providing hints should one require a helping hand.

If you do feel at a loss at any point, know that this is totally normal — there is value in teamwork after all, while the challenge was made more fun with a bunch of competent group mates who were 200% on board. Once the final challenge has been completed, you’ll receive a certificate, a special prize, and a complimentary dessert at the hotel’s restaurant.

Here’s a video that sums up our experience:

We got to experience ‘The Curiosity Room by TED’ at BangkokMarriottMarquis, a fun and interactive themed room concept where guests get to solve clues and puzzles. THE HOTEL

The M Club Room.

Once you’ve made your “escape”, you’ll find that there’s plenty to love about the hotel as well. Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park is a choice stay, first for its location at Sukhumvit Road, one of the city’s major commercial streets, and second, the impressive array of facilities and restaurants all under one roof. It also has the distinction of being the largest hotel in Bangkok, and the first Marriott Marquis hotel in Asia Pacific.

The M Club Room gives us the best views of the city, complete with access to the exclusive M Club Lounge, while it’s also nice to note the Thai influences throughout the room and the rest of the hotel as well. At the lobby, towering teak pillars give an old-world feel to the generous space while serving as a nod to the hotel’s former decor, though these are encased within mirrored frames for a more contemporary point of view.

[click on the images below to expand, and for more info.]

We aren’t kidding when we say you barely need to leave the hotel — there’s the renowned Akira Back restaurant, for instance, while facilities include two swimming pools, a 24-hour fitness centre, and the Quan Spa for a more relaxing kind of escape. It’s also an easy five-minute walk to nearby mall EmQuartier, and easily links up to the Phrom Phong BTS Skytrain station.

akira back
Akira Back.
Tuna Pizza, Una-Q.

Of the host of restaurants and facilities located within the hotel, one major highlight would be modern fusion restaurant Akira Back. This is the first Akira Back restaurant in Thailand, a brand known worldwide for its east-meets-west approach that features modern fare with Japanese and Korean elements.

Think Tuna Pizza, a delectable signature dish that’s topped with white truffle oil; the Toro Tartare, prepared tableside and served with caviar and wasabi soy on brioche toast; as well as AB Tacos and Una-Q, where the later serves up unagi and foie gras between thin slices of cucumber, made to look like a Mexican-style taco. Along with these, their maki-style sushi rolls are quite the crowd-pleasers — ‘Brother From Another Mother’ is aptly named for its combination of freshwater unagi and anago, a saltwater eel, while ‘Hot Mess’ delivers on that spicy kick with crunchy crab tempura and avocado, sashimi poke, and spicy ponzo aioli.

Akira Back opens from 5.30pm – 11pm, daily.

abar rooftop
Abar Rooftop.

Rooftop bars are a quintessential Bangkok affair, and you won’t have to venture far for a taste of nightlife. ABar Rooftop, located on the 38th floor of the hotel, offers spectacular views of the city in a stylish open-air setting, while boasting one of the largest selections of gins within Bangkok as well.

Its collection currently consists of over 80 different gin varieties, including craft labels such as ‘Saneha’ from a Phuket-based gin distillery. Go for a signature G&T if you enjoy your floral cocktails, or try one of the innovative cocktails on their extensive menu while looking over an illuminated city skyline.

ABar Rooftop opens from 5pm – 12mn, daily.

SIRIMAHANNOP — DINING ON BOARD A SHIP

On top of the myriad of experiences you can indulge in within the hotel, here’s something unusual that might float your boat — dining aboard a ship. Sirimahannop is the city’s latest dining and entertainment venue that transports you back into the golden era of Thai heritage, as you board a grand three-masted vessel that’s now permanently docked at ASIATIQUE The Riverfront, right by the city’s famed Chao Phraya River.

The ship itself is an authentic replica of a Royal Thai Navy ship that dates back to the reign of King Rama V, with plenty of nautical fittings, done elegantly, and even a mini photo gallery that chronicles the cabin crew’s seafaring adventures. It is managed by Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, so members of Marriott Bonvoy and Club Marriott get to enjoy special offers when dining aboard the Sirimahannop.

[click on the images below to expand, and for more info.]

While dining alfresco at the top deck, we got to indulge in fresh local seafood and tapas-style plates, which we heard reflect the ship’s voyages across the international waters. This included house-cured dill salmon; a sharing seafood basket of shrimps, scallops and whelk clams on ice; a beef cheek green curry basket served with griddled roti; Copenhagen-style stir-fried calamari; along with baked pork chop on the bone. On the drinks menu, expect rum-based drinks and cocktails inspired by Thai woods, alongside craft beers and fine wines.

Sirimahannop opens 4pm – 12mn, daily.

The Curiosity Room by TED, at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, is available for booking from now till 15 November 2022, online at marriott.com.

PUMA Redefines Style and Performance with A New Luxe Sport Collection

With athleisure becoming a norm these days, the lines between high fashion and sports wear are constantly blurring day after day, so much so that it’s hard to imagine otherwise. A quick history lesson though: it was only in 1998 that PUMA became the first sports brand in the world to blend performance and fashion, thanks to a collaboration with German designer Jil Sander.

Today, PUMA is set to once again redefine fashion with an all-new Luxe Sport Collection, featuring pieces shown during ‘FUTUROGRADE‘ at New York Fashion Week.
.

Featured here (from left to right): PUMA Luxe Sport T7 Blazer, PUMA Luxe Sport T7 Track Jacket, PUMA Luxe Sport Bodysuit, PUMA Luxe Sport T7 Slouchy Pants, and PUMA Luxe Sport T7 Puffer Jacket.

The PUMA Luxe Sport Collection celebrates one of the brand’s most iconic designs, the T7 tracksuit, which acts as a reminder that style rules can always be rewritten. PUMA’s exploration of style brings 11 new re-interpreted pieces of the T7 to the collection, which include the T7 Bodysuit, the T7 Blazer, and the T7 Oversized Puffer Jacket.

Each new piece expresses a distinct blend of sport and style, using eye-catching accents such as exaggerated zipper pulls that are matched with oversized silhouettes and captivating colour pops of teal, purple and red.

Featured here: PUMA Luxe Sport Bodysuit, PUMA Luxe Sport T7 Slouchy Pants, and PUMA Luxe Sport T7 Puffer Jacket.

The signature piece to look out for is, of course, the iconic T7 tracksuit, now with the classic logo on the front and white stripes along the arms, as well as a sharper silhouette and monogram patterns that reference the free-spirited boldness of the ’80s.

4 Edgy Makeup Looks Created With The CHANEL LES 4 OMBRES TWEED Eye Collection

If you love CHANEL, you ought to love tweed too — these go hand in hand since Gabrielle Chanel first introduced the world to her signature tweed creations, whether on exquisite jackets that exude casual elegance, or bags that bear the fabric’s soft, loving caress. This year, tweed also happens to be the source of inspiration for CHANEL’s Makeup Creation Studio, which is why we’re getting four limited-edition LES 4 OMBRES eyeshadows.

What is it like to dress your eyes in tweed? You’ll be able to experience that once you get your hands on one of the LES 4 OMBRES TWEED eyeshadow quads. Each of these creations feature the famous motif, a tweed pattern, embossed on the surface of each shade, while the curated shades are picked precisely to bring out both the quirky contrast and effortless harmony of tweed’s intertwined fibres.

From natural brown and beige tones, to satiny pinks, fiery brick, or golden metallic shimmer, these palettes come dressed in matching tweed pouches of their own too, crafted by Maison Lesage, the embroidery house that’s been a part of CHANEL’s Métiers d’art since 2002, so you know these are made as exquisite as they look.

Inspired by the 2022 Eye Collection, we’ve gone on to create 4 edgy looks inspired by each of the palettes. Read on to see how you can recreate them.

LOOK 1
01 TWEED CUIVRÉ

This is an elegant metallic-hued eye palette that evokes the richness of precious metals, where a touch of gold is balanced out with the deep browns of bronze, copper shimmer, and a pearly brownish plum.

On the face: CHANEL LES 4 OMBRES TWEED CUIVRÉ, STYLO YEUX WATERPROOF in 52 CUIVRE DORE, ROUGE ALLURE L’EXTRAIT in 862 brun affirme.

With such a rich set of colours to work with, we decided to start with a softer look that’s reflective of the shimmery shades within the palette. Instead of black eyeliner, reach for a light brown pencil liner instead, which complements the palette’s darkest shade (upper left) that’s used for definition right under the eyes.

A golden allure can be achieved by patting the light gold shade (lower right) on top of the eyeliner, following its winged shape closely rather than blending it out. Enhance the look with the two medium shades (upper right and lower left) along the front of the eye and inner corner for a coppery finish.

LOOK 2
02 TWEED POURPRE

Sweet yet intense, this bold combination of satiny pinks and mauves puts together luminous peachy pink, satin old rose, and iridescent golden mauve, followed by an intense plum for definition.

On the face: CHANEL LES 4 OMBRES TWEED pourpre, STYLO YEUX WATERPROOF in 88 noir intense, ROUGE ALLURE L’EXTRAIT in 812 beige brut.

The intriguing balance of sweet and striking pinks certainly caught our attention here, and inspired this makeup look as well. Consider this a call to have fun with your most feminine shades — our makeup artist started with some sleek liner, in bold black that extends from the inner corners of the eyes to the outer corners of a sharp winged top, before layering on dramatic pink hues under the eyes.

You can do the same by mixing the rose and plum (lower left and lower right) together with a brush, then lightly pressing it on your skin all while blending it out at the same time. You don’t need to be too perfect with this one as the contrast of sharp liner and soft-focus pinks is exactly what makes the look interesting.

LOOK 3
03 TWEED FAUVE

Like sunset on the eyes, this palette is a harmony of warm, radiant hues that range from a fiery matte brick orange to a deep aubergine brown. These strong shades are illuminated by the subtle shine of a satin coral and an amber-gold.

On the face: CHANEL LES 4 OMBRES TWEED fauve, ROUGE ALLURE L’EXTRAIT in 848 corail sanguin.

We’ll have you know, the entire eye look was created with just the 4 shades in this palette! Though this does require some skill to perfect the sharp lines, we’ll still let you in on how it’s done. Start with the light coral shade (lower right) across the entire eyelid, and then pick up the palette’s bright orange hue (upper left) to use as an eyeliner.

A small eyeshadow brush will help with precise lines as you slowly create a winged tip that extends past the outer edge of the eye, intensifying the colour as you go along; put the same colour on the inner corner of your eye too, making sure to stick to a clean and defined style.

To create definition under the eye, mix the orange and deep brown hue (lower left), and pat it on the outer edge to add depth to the warm-toned look. The palette’s lightest shade, an amber gold (upper right), can then be used on the aegyo sal, or the pocket of fat right under the eye, for a youthful, brightening effect.

LOOK 4
04 TWEED BRUN ET ROSE

The most neutral of the four palettes, it favours natural browns and pinkish beige tones that work well against the skin, while an icy brown and delicate dusty rose elevate it to something a little less ordinary.

On the face: CHANEL LES 4 OMBRES TWEED BRUN ET ROSE, STYLO YEUX WATERPROOF in 58 bois noir, ROUGE ALLURE L’EXTRAIT in 812 beige brut.

Channeling some 60s mod, this look sees graphic lines that frame the eye, a simple way to elevate your eye look without any complicated technique. The look starts off with blending the two medium shades (upper left and upper right) together and patting it across the eyelid, followed by a dash of chocolate brown (upper right) for a soft winged tip. Notice the more neutral, cool tones here.

Then, we used a deep brown liner (in 58 bois noir) above the eyelid and right on the crease, making sure to follow the natural shape of the eye — do this confidently for a bold swipe that’s as clean as possible. Add some flicks of eyeliner on the bottom of the eye, making them blend in with your lower lashes for even more mod vibes. For our look, we also used the eyeliner to create texture on top of the eyeshadow, aiming to mimic the look of tweed.

CHANEL LES 4 OMBRES TWEED Eye Collection, $135 each for the eyeshadow palettes. Available at CHANEL Fragrance and Beauty boutiques and counters, and on the CHANEL Fragrance & Beauty E-Shop, sg-eshop.chanel.com.

Pandora Goes Artsy With A Keith Haring Collection That Features His Iconic Pop Art Motifs

Keith Haring’s expressive art is about to take over our wrists and more, thanks to this new tie-up with Pandora. The jewellery brand debuts their first-ever art collection inspired by the late New York artist’s contemporary artworks, imbuing the spirit of his imaginative pop art style into charms, rings, bracelets, earrings, and a necklace.

Bright tones and mixed metals are designed to make a statement, with black enamel outlines that nail his playful visual language. “What’s most important is the feeling that the pieces give you, and the energy that you feel by being connected to something meaningful, like an iconic artwork,” said Filippo Ficarelli and Francesco Terzo, Creative Directors of Pandora.

Plenty of Keith Haring’s iconic symbols feature in the collection as well, such as the dancing figures that represent the movement and freedom of humanity, or the walking heart and barking dog that are as much contemporary pop culture icons as they are a part of art history. The 12-piece capsule collection will launch 29 September 2022 across Pandora stores worldwide.

Let’s talk about the standouts. Perhaps because of their chunky silhouettes, we can’t help but notice the new bracelets, earrings and rings from the Keith Haring™ x Pandora collection, especially since they’re infused with quite the edgy, street-style sentiment.

Both the Keith Haring™ x Pandora Two-tone Twisted Finger T-Bar Pendant Necklace and Two-tone Love Links Bracelet are crafted with sterling silver and 14k gold-plated sterling silver, with the mixed metals adding plenty of personality here. On top of that, the necklace is adorned with a charm of the artwork ‘Untitled (Dance)’, influenced by New York City’s hip-hop scene, while the bracelet sees chunky alphabet letters that spell L-O-V-E, a reminder to stay optimistic.

What’s also fun is the iconic ‘dancing heart’ artwork reinterpreted into 14k gold-plated stud earrings, made oversized and designed to dangle off your ear. Needless to say, all the pieces in the collection are unisex as well, as a nod to Haring’s principles of inclusivity and diversity.

The rings happen to be exquisite works of art too. A cut-out style in gold follows the outline of one of Haring’s graffiti-style designs, a wavy figure outlined in black enamel for bold contrast. Then, a bolder style fits in ‘Untitled (Dance)’, ‘the flying man’ and other symbols on sterling silver crafted with a tinge of red enamel.

If you’re here for the charms and accompanying charm bracelets though, we don’t blame you. Pandora’s signature snake chain bracelet sees an artistic twist, with a radiating heart charm elegantly making a statement in pink and black enamel.

The other sterling silver charms complete the collection in a series of bold colours too. Keith Haring’s ‘the barking dog’, a reminder of loyalty and companionship while speaking up, is in a bold red; the ‘angel baby’ piece pairs sterling silver with blue enamel; and energetic line art takes you from day to day, with touches of red representing the dancing figures’ beating hearts.

Two beautifully-designed dangling charms, with Keith Haring’s signature at the back and detail that extends to the loop or a 3-D style design, round off a collection that’s all about self-expression and hope.

The Patent Leather Loafers And Buckled Bags That ITZY Wore For Charles & Keith’s Fall Campaign

With Fall officially in full swing, at least within the fashion calendar, we feel more inclined to be more adventurous with our wardrobes when it comes to layering, jackets and boots — anything to manifest cool weather.

And if you’re curious about how exactly to interpret that style in the trendiest way possible, just look to Charles & Keith. The accessories brand recently announced k-pop girl group ITZY as their new global brand ambassador, while also styling them in high-gloss Lula patent bags and shoes that match the group’s magnetic presence.

Clearly, we’re spoilt for choice here. The Lula shoes and bags are quite the showstoppers themselves, arriving with a high-shine gloss finish and in trendy curvy silhouettes to boot. The Lula Patent Buckled Bag, for instance, is a rounded 90s shoulder bag style, while the Lula Patent Belted Bag makes a statement with its curved top handle and puffy, oversized belt and buckle down the front.

There’s a lot to talk about for the shoes too, which see lots of platform soles and block heels, again, trendy styles that are easy to walk in; classic silhouettes such as pumps, mary janes and loafers are topped up with some considerable chunk. Then, we have two styles of shiny boots too, which are more versatile than you’d think given their sleek and fitted form.

[click on the images below to expand.]

Another highlight of the Fall collection that you’d love would be an expansion of the brand’s famous Gabine bag — a mini top-handle bucket bag joins the family, in a fun size that still sees that distinctive gold buckle, and with options that include a navy tweed and smooth chocolate brown. Of course, all these are made even more covetable with the girls from ITZY reppin’ them. Which would you add to your cart?

Winners from The Shopee x NYLON 2022 Beauty Awards!

It’s the Beauty Awards season, and this year, we’ve collaborated with Shopee again to pick out the very best available on their website. The NYLON team reviewed close to 300 beauty products across skincare, makeup, haircare and personal care categories, and have picked out the very best for you to shop. Congrats to the brands below for your winning products!

SKINCARE

Finding the right skincare that works for each of us is like striking gold. Everyone wants good, clear, healthy skin, and of course to look more youthful; and it starts with those special products that somehow work like magic. These below are our picks across the categories. They include cult favourites like Lâncome’s Advanced Génifique Serum and shu uemura’s Cleansing Oil, and a selection from popular K-Beauty brands like Dr. Jart+ and Aprilskin. Now onto your road of discovering good skin…

SKINCARE (ULTIMATE WINNER):
Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum, $270

This product wins our Serum category below, and also features in our Top 3 Luxe Skincare products from Shopee! It works as a booster to help your other skincare absorb better, and it also makes the skin healthier with just one week of use!

CLEANSER (WINNER):
Medicube Red Foam Cleanser, $35

This face wash is a rich white cream that lathers well with water, and feels both hydrating and clean on the skin. It’s good for blemish-prone skin because it contains salicylic acid that dissolves sebum in pores and cleans them out well.

ESSENCE (WINNER):
Laneige Perfect Renew Youth Regenerator, $92

Laneige really has very good skincare and this essence is one of their clear winners; it includes ingredients to regenerate ageing cells to “re-boot” the skin, and over time, skin gets firmer and smoother. It also works for all skin types including sensitive skin.

EXFOLIATORS & SCRUBS (WINNER):
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) Liquid Exfoliator, $48

Almost everything from Paula’s Choice is safe to use for sensitive skin, so you can expect that the exfoliator is gentle as well. This liquid effectively unclogs pores, improves skin cell turnover and increases collagen production. It may sound too good to be true, but it actually works.

TONER (WINNER):
La Roche-Posay Effaclar K+ Lotion QD, $36.90

This lotion balances oily, sensitive skin, refining and smoothing it with salicylic acid and mineral silica powder. We like that it’s a micro-exfoliant that can be used daily because it’s very mild.

SERUM (WINNER):
Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum, $270

This serum works for all skin types including really sensitive skin, and improves its condition by strengthening it with pre- and probiotics. Every time I have a bottle of this, I’m assured of good skin for as long as the bottle lasts.

MASKS (WINNER):
Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing Mask, $73

This mask feels light, comfortable and soothing on the skin, and makes it appear visibly hydrated the morning after.

MOISTURISER (WINNER):
Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream, $60

Here’s a winning cream that’s suitable for all skin types — including sensitive skin. I particularly love the gel-cream texture; it slathers on like a soft cloud on skin, and soothes any redness and irritation immediately. Skin also does feel suitably hydrated and comfortable after use.

SUNSCREEN (WINNER):
Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotics, $14.92

Most sunscreens feel thick and sticky, and worst still, leave a white cast on the skin. This incredible find is lightweight and hydrating, and becomes invisible, sinking in to skin comfortably as the last step of skincare. Extremely worth it for its price point.

CLEANSING DEVICE (WINNER):
FOREO LUNA 3 for Combination Skin, $359

It’s still hard to beat a FOREO when it comes to cleansing devices. This one feels firm, yet gentle; pampering, but still effective. And after several uses, you’ll find that your skincare absorbs better, and that your skin feels cleaner (and great!).

HAIR REMOVAL DEVICE (WINNER):
Eosika IPL Hair Removal SIPL-1000C, $249

This award-winning product is South Korea’s best-selling hair removal device to use at home. It’ll last you a lifetime (up to 1,000,000 flashes, which is about 100 years of use for one person), is safe to use (it’s cleared by KFDA as a medical device level product), and most importantly, makes you hair-free in just 15 minutes.

FACIAL TONING & LIGHT THERAPY DEVICE (WINNER):
Skin Inc Optimizer Voyage Tri-Light++, $458

This is one of the original light therapy devices for home use. It tones and tightens skin, soothes it, and helps to create a brighter complexion with each use. There’s also a matching app that provides a comprehensive report on the skin’s condition.

TOP 3 K-BEAUTY SKINCARE (1st):
innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum, $78

This best-selling serum is a fantastic strengthening hydrator that works well for sensitive skin.

TOP 3 K-BEAUTY SKINCARE (2nd):
COSRX Acne Purple Master Patch, from $5.24

These patches protect blemishes and wounds from getting infected, and help heal them faster. They really are a must-have during break-outs so we suggest stocking up on them.

TOP 3 K-BEAUTY SKINCARE (3rd):
Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream, $60

This is also the winner of our Moisturiser category above. One swipe of this soft cream and you’ll be hooked as well.

TOP 3 LUXE BEAUTY SKINCARE (1st):
LA MER The Eye Concentrate, $239

Here’s perhaps the most luxurious eye cream you can get. It’s formulated with LA MER’s special Miracle Broth, and deeply conditions and smooths the eye area.

TOP 3 LUXE BEAUTY SKINCARE (2nd):
Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Foam, $50

A good cleanser is gentle yet effective, and this one is nice and mild, lathering beautifully into a mousse that feels hydrating on skin.

TOP 3 LUXE BEAUTY SKINCARE (3rd):
Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum, $270

This won our Serum category above, and so unsurprisingly features in our top three Luxe Skincare products available on Shopee.

TOP 3 DERM SKINCARE (1st):
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Water Gel, $25.90

An ultra-refreshing and lightweight moisturiser in a water gel texture, this feels completely hydrating on skin, and strengthens the skin barrier over time.

TOP 3 DERM SKINCARE (2nd):
Medicube Red Foam Cleanser, $35

As the winner of our Cleanser category, no surprises for this being in our Top 3 Derm Skincare products!

TOP 3 DERM SKINCARE (3rd):
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) Liquid Exfoliator, $48

Winner of our Exfoliator category, this is definitely the one product to try from this brand. It sloughs off dead skin cells gently and gives you better skin over time.

MAKEUP

There are some obvious winners here, but also many pleasant discoveries from lesser-known brands. If you’re looking to overhaul or just update your makeup pouch, these are the ones to buy from every category.

MAKEUP (ULTIMATE WINNER):
Kiss Me Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Eyeliner, $34.59

You can’t go wrong with this eyeliner; it doesn’t smudge or fade, which is perfect for an entire day out at Universal Studios! Stock up on this because it’s a winner and performs best in its category.

FOUNDATION (WINNER):
Aprilskin Magic Snow Cushion 3.0 + Refill, $70

The hype surrounding Aprilskin’s cushion compact is justified; this foundation is easy to apply and blend, and it offers near-perfect coverage that conceals enlarged pores, pigmentation and even blemishes. The finish is also incredibly natural and healthy-looking. You won’t regret this purchase.

FOUNDATION (SPECIAL MENTION):
Laneige Neo Cushion Matte SPF 42+ PA++, $62

The Laneige cushion compact deserves special mention because firstly, it’s very pretty, and secondly, the formula is really very good. This cream provides a full yet weightless coverage, and like all good foundations, it makes the skin look nice and even.

POWDER (WINNER):
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder, $52.50

As the last step of the makeup routine, a good loose powder is important. Make Up For Ever’s powder is extremely soft and super fine, creating a natural dusting of powder to nicely set any makeup look.

CONCEALER (WINNER):
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind High Coverage Liquid Concealer, $19.90

This cushion concealer was the winner of our Shopee Beauty Awards in 2021, and comes out again on top for this year. It’s a creamy, extremely blendable formula that sinks into skin, and covers over blemishes and imperfections really well. Coverage is high but still natural, and it’s long lasting. No surprises it wins again this year.

BLUSHER (WINNER):
I’M MEME Afternoon Tea Blusher Palette, $22.97

This blush palette includes three matte and shimmery powder shades that have good colour payoff, and are in natural, fresh colours that suit most skin tones.

EYESHADOW PALETTE (WINNER):
Perfect Diary Two Explorer Eyeshadow Palette , $39.90

These eyeshadow colours and the entire palette is very pretty. I love the cat design and that the eyeshadow shades have names like Dry Food, Ears and Cat Bell. The colours come out decent enough and they work well together as a set.

LIQUID EYELINER (WINNER):
Kiss Me Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Eyeliner, $34.59

We’ve been swearing by Heroine Make eyeliners for years, and all of them are good. The brush pen is easy to use and draw with, and the ink is intense and truly waterproof. No smudging or fading involved.

LIQUID EYELINER (SPECIAL MENTION):
Perfect Diary Slim Long-Lasting Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, $15.90

Perfect Diary’s liquid eyeliner was a truly pleasant discovery; the brush tip is soft and easy to draw with, and the ink comes out super black and intense. It’s holding power isn’t as good as the one from Heroine Make, but it’s priced so affordably, making it good value for money.

PENCIL EYELINER (WINNER):
Sister Ann Double Effect Water Proof Eye Pencil, $24.20 and Perfect Slim Eye Pencil, $22.70

Both these pencil eyeliners are very good. The formula glides on eyelids smoothly so they’re really easy to draw with, and the colour comes out intense and lasts the day without smudging. The slim version, in particular, is great for our travel makeup pouch.

MASCARA (WINNER):
Canmake Tokyo Quick Lash Curler Mascara, $16.90

One of the best discoveries from this list, Canmake Tokyo’s mascara was an instant winner from the first swipe. I love that the packaging is compact (good to bring on holiday!), and that the “comb” brush is thin, which makes the product really easy to apply. It swipes on smoothly, and does exactly what it claims — it keeps the lash curl. The formula comes out a beautiful intense, glossy black that really highlights the lashes. Overall, this mascara performs better than most luxury (and expensive!) brand mascaras! It’s the best example of price not being a good indicator for performance.

LIPSTICK (WINNER):
3CE Blur Water Tint, $21

This lip product has a watery texture that is cooling and comfortable, and dries down into a beautiful dewy finish that looks soft.

BROWS (WINNER):
Merythod Reeltattoo Brow Pen, $29

This brush with 4 tips draws natural and long-lasting brows. It does require a bit of practice to get it right the first few times, but I really like the results.

BRONZER (WINNER):
Peripera Ink V Shading, $17.90

The three tonal shades in this palette work well to create that “V-shaped” shading on the face.

TOP 3 K-BEAUTY MAKEUP (1st):
3CE Multi Eye Colour Palette, $54

This palette includes great everyday shades and can create a variety of eye makeup looks. The powders are smooth and give decent colour payoff.

TOP 3 K-BEAUTY MAKEUP (2nd):
Sister Ann Double Effect Water Proof Eye Pencil, $24.20

This eye pencil is our winning choice above in its category, and features here again because it’s really very good. We love that this comes in many different colours, including two shades of black (one with glitter).

TOP 3 K-BEAUTY MAKEUP (3rd):
Peripera Ink Velvet, $13.40

This lip product gives a rich, bold and velvety colour that adheres well to lips and is long lasting. We love the mini bottle design too.

TOP 3 LUXE BEAUTY MAKEUP (1st):
shu uemura Ultime8∞ Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil, $150

Whenever I see shu uemura’s cleansing oil in a beauty awards category, it’s game over for everyone else. This is the one beauty product — luxe or not — that I can’t live without. I’ve been using some iteration of this cleanser for the past 23 years, and it’s kept my skin not just clean, but also really clear with few breakouts. This is also the one face wash that thoroughly removes all waterproof makeup, and it does so gently without stripping the skin of moisture.

TOP 3 LUXE BEAUTY MAKEUP (2nd):
Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup SPF 10/PA++, $66

You can’t find a better liquid foundation than this little glass bottle from Estée Lauder. It’s well-known as the “industry standard” for liquid foundations, and for good reason — the product melts and disappears into skin, and makes it look as flawless as possible. It also doesn’t feel like anything, but you know it’s there because your skin looks instantly so much better.

TOP 3 LUXE BEAUTY MAKEUP (3rd):
Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Awakening Lip Balm, $37

There’s a whole cult following behind this lip product because there isn’t another product quite like it; it’s balmy and comforting on lips, and imparts a beautiful, natural colour that makes the lips appear glowy and radiant.

Just like the iconic hair mask, the shampoo and conditioner from COCO & EVE is amazing. After just one use, hair is less frizzy, and feels smoother and softer.

The ingredients list on this body wash includes Centella Asiatica to sooth skin, salicylic acid to dissolve impurities, and menthol to refresh and cool the skin down.

PERSONAL CARE

Oral care and grooming is big business, and we’re now more vested than ever in taking care of this part of our wellbeing. We have more options in electric toothbrushes and teeth whitening than ever before — and these products are now much more affordable than when it was a novelty. And just like all the other categories, it was a hard decision to choose a winner; so the ones that we selected are truly well-deserved and worth checking out.

PERSONAL CARE (ULTIMATE WINNER) + ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH (WINNER):
Colgate Electric Toothbrush Gum Care, $299.90

The NYLON team reviewed this electric toothbrush a few months ago, and it’s still our daily go-to. The user experience is truly superior; it makes the teeth feel clean, the 10 vibration levels provide good control, and the bristles are firm yet gentle.

ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH (SPECIAL MENTION):
Zenyum Sonic Electric Toothbrush, $89.90

Zenyum’s original electric toothbrush has been a hot contender in its category since the start-up launched in 2018. The product is sleek and affordably priced, and is a decent electric toothbrush that’s uncomplicated to use. There’s a newly launched “Sonic Go” model that’s positioned as the travel version and it’s even cheaper at $59.90. I prefer the weightiness and styling of the original Sonic toothbrush, but the Go is a good option if you’re on a budget.

TEETH WHITENING (WINNER):
Zenyum Invisible Whitening Strips

MEN’S SHAVING (WINNER):
Meridian Waterproof Electric Trimmer, $94.99

This trimmer is easy, fast and comfortable to use. It shaves and cuts hair safely, and can be completely rinsed off in the shower. We also love its matte green finish.

FRAGRANCE

Perfume is the most subjective category here, so we just picked out the ones that really got our mood going.

FRAGRANCE (ULTIMATE WINNER) +WOMEN’S FRAGRANCE (WINNER):

This complex blend includes notes of bergamot, aldehydes, lilac, hyacinth, honeysuckle, ylang ylang, peach, orange blossom, lily of the valley, coconut, orris root, rose, tuberose, jasmine, narcissus, carnation, musk, sandalwood, cedar wood, oak moss, benzoin and amber. The resulting scent is floral and familiar; it smells comforting yet uplifting.

As The New York Times describes the scent — it smells like the spirit of Gen X.

Kipling x Anna Sui Sees A Rose-Inspired Art Deco Print On Lightweight Bags And Luggage

Kipling looks to New York fashion designer Anna Sui, once again, for an elevated series of everyday bags, and this one’s a stunning black-and-white print centred around the rose. Bold retro-style florals feature across the brand’s beloved Art M, as well as a pouch, backpack, shoulder bag, and trolley luggage, showing off the designer’s distinct point of view, a mix of rockstar-chic and playful girliness.

According to Anna Sui, the Ribbed Roses print, also featured in her Fall 2022 collection, is inspired by her favourite flower, and is designed to make a bold fashion statement.

In an interview with her, she shared how she was “thrilled to be asked” to resume the partnership with the brand; the first time the two collaborated was in 2021, which saw vibrant purple butterfly motifs and ornate black finishes. The butterfly motif, seen in the previous collection as quirky keychains, also feature here in autumn hues, important as they “symbolise chasing one’s dreams”, she said.

She also shared how the two brands have similar philosophies in their design approach. “Kipling encourages people to have fun with their lives [Live. Light], and Anna Sui’s motto is Live Your Dreams, which encourages one to follow their dream, no matter how difficult.”

Clearly, Anna Sui’s keen sense of aesthetics, seen on her signature prints,  blends well with Kipling’s values of practicality and functionality as well. The variety of products offered here — from small bags to large totes, and even a suitcase — are also a plus, since they cater to all kinds of people.

“We wanted to offer bags that fit a woman’s lifestyle. These range from a small pouch to a carry-on travel bag (my favourite!). They are fashionable-looking with Kipling’s functionality, in a multi-sized selection that suits any lifestyle,” she elaborated.

Her favourite item, the CURIOSITY S wheeled luggage, is available in a handy carry-on size, and made with 100% polycarbonate. She’s also a fan of Kipling’s lightweight, waterproof bags when travelling, and for that, we have to recommend the roomy ART M tote, a staple design that’s great for travel or whenever you’re shuttling in between events and errands on a busy day.

As for the other bag designs, the KEZIA makes a reappearance, and is a recent crowd-favourite for its trendy backpack style. The collection goes on to include the ART MINI and ART POUCH, with their distinct silhouettes in petite forms, the EMIRA crossbody bag, and the slouchy AMELA shoulder bag. Also important to note: Anna Sui clarifies that she “designs for a spirit, not age”, which  just proves that anyone, and everyone, can be carrying this collection.
