The shu uemura x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal Collection Arrives To Transform Your Holiday Makeup

If you’re a long-time fan of the Japanese manga and anime series, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, then you’d definitely be over the moon, right about now. To mark the icon’s 30th anniversary, shu uemura has joined forces with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon in order to present a magical, limited-edition holiday beauty collection that honours the legendary princess.

This will be available in Singapore, first on 20 October as an online exclusive pre-order, and then subsequently rolled out at all stores and Sephora.

“Moon Crisis, Make Up!”, the command used by the superheroine to transform into Super Sailor Moon, couldn’t be more apt here, as gold and blue take over the packaging of shu uemura classics, as well as new galactic eyeshadows and a holographic highlighter. Across the collection, the silhouette of Sailor Moon, and that of her beloved cat Luna, feature either in gold or mesmerising prismatic hue motifs, against a backdrop inspired by a starry night in Tokyo.

The most impressive product of the collection would probably be the ‘moon crisis eye palette’, a full kit of 9 celestial eyeshadows housed within crescent-shaped packaging, making this a covetable collectible item. The colours are pretty and neutral, leaning towards warm tones with shades of gold, pink, and orange. There’s also a trio of exclusive seamless duo chrome shades, of shifting hues that literally transform in front of your eyes, which ties in nicely with its key inspiration.

Colours include a glittery gold, shimmering duo chrome that transforms from orange to gold, and  sparkling champagne gold with XXL glitter to signal one’s arrival, and a soft pinkish beige matte to blend; along with a light beige matte, a duo chrome that shifts from cool beige to soft pink to warm gold, a festive glittery soft pink to gold duo chrome shade, metallic greige brown for dimension, and a bold dark reddish brown matte to define your eye look.

For a just-as-cute take on eyeshadow, there’s also the ‘eternal prism eye palette’, this time featuring 6 cosmic shades, including one duo chrome one. Colours include a dazzling lilac gleam, prismatic purple, and rich metallic red brown to create definition; as well as a duo chrome that shifts from cool beige to soft pink to warm gold, warm pink matte that’s easy to blend on Asian skin tones, and a metallic antique rose with silver sparkle.

Beyond glittery palettes, the Sailor Moon collection includes three lipsticks, each arriving in two shades, including one new Sailor Moon-inspired hue.

The ‘rouge unlimited amplified lacquer’ lipstick sees shades of mauve flash and BR787 miracle velvet, where the former is a mauve pink speckled with iridescent lilac sparkles inspired by a starry night. Then, there’s the creamy ‘rouge unlimited kinu satin’ that sees dream rust, a new rusty rose shade, and RD196 pretty crimson, with its commanding red hue.

If you’re more a liquid lipstick kinda girl, we’d recommend the ‘rouge unlimited kinu cream’ for how it cocoons your lips in a soft, whipped cream texture. This is available in a new BG964 romance blush, a blushed beige with hints of rose, and guardian sparkle, a rich reddish brown with gold sparkles.

Other highlights include the ‘moon crisis highlighter’ in two new sparkling or shimmer shades, the ultime8 cleansing oil and hard formula eyebrow pencil now dressed to match, as well as two items inspired by Luna the cat — the petal 55 foundation brush, and iconic eyelash curler with a lucky Luna charm dangling off its side.

For avid collectors, there’s also a mini makeup box, in black and stamped with the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon series motif in gold on the outside. See all the items from the collection here:

AWARE Commemorates 30 Years of the Women’s Helpline with A Fundraising Campaign

In a world where communication constantly evolves into automation devoid of that human connection, it is hard to find a listening ear who can validate your feelings and offer up crucial information when you need it the most.

Since the launch of the Women’s Helpline in 1991, AWARE has been at the forefront in providing support to women, with more than 6,000 calls received each year. Trained volunteers and staff have been on hand to act as a beacon of light for women who may be feeling lost, lonely, or crushed by circumstances beyond their control.

Grounded in feminist principles, the Helpline is run by women, for women, and does not discriminate, treating all callers as equals while recognising women to be resourceful and capable when tackling the most difficult and challenging of situations.

Over the years, many women have turned to the Helpline for gender-informed and trauma-informed support as well as access to AWARE’s counselling or legal clinic services, but there were many others who simply needed a reminder that someone was in their corner, especially in their moments of doubt and darkness.

Although it has been almost three decades since its inception, running such a service still requires enormous behind-the-scene work that includes costs of operations and more.

This is where you come in.

AWARE is currently in the midst of a four-month Helpline Fund campaign, ending on 31 December 2022, which aims to raise $250,000 via Give.Asia to help support the Women’s Helpline operations into the future.

The raised funds will go towards months of intensive volunteer training, staff to manage operations smoothly, research to make sure the service is up to speed on the latest developments, as well as infrastructure to keep multiple lines (including an online chat service) open throughout the day, even during a pandemic.

You can donate what you can here to support the continued operation of AWARE’s Women Helpline and related services. All donations will be matched 100% by the Tote Board and government, while excess funds will be directed towards other services and programmes to support women. You can also watch this video below to hear from a few callers, in their own words.

Hermès Apple Watch Series 8 and Airtag for Fall/Winter 2022

With every new series of the Apple Watch, we’ve come to expect a fresh collection from their collaboration with French luxury brand, Hermès. Earlier this week, Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 8, with more health and safety features and an upgraded processor. While we can still use the same 41mm/45mm straps on the new Series 8, we’re always excited for the new designs from Hermès. For this new collection, Hermès takes inspiration from their equestrian heritage and presents light-hearted designs that will put a smile on your face.

There’s the Apple Watch Hermès Series 8 41mm case with double tour band in Swift calfskin. The faces are fun and friendly, and in the Always-On mode, it darkens while the horse gives a wink. Very cute.

Above: Apple Watch Hermès Series 8 41mm case with double tour band in Beton,  Rose Texas, gold and Vert Rousseau Swift calfskin ($1,979).

As for the Gourmette band, it combines leather with a metal chain that references the equestrian curb link chains. We particularly love the all-leather version with an all-black “chain”.

New Liquid Foundation launches to try this month, including Hourglass, Guerlain and Clé de Peau Beauté

Here are three new liquid foundations launching this month, in three different textures and finishes. And yes, they are all good and worth buying.

Hourglass Soft Glow Foundation

There’s quite a bit of hype surrounding this “cult” product on the Internet, with almost all positive reviews. The ingredients list is free of all “bad things” like alcohol, fragrance, oil, parabens and sulphates, and instead is full of vitamins and anti-oxidants.

It’s a medium-to-rich cream with what I would consider quite high coverage for myself. And because it’s fairly dense, it takes a bit more time and effort to blend out, but that also means it covers and conceals more. Skin looks “perfected”, slightly powdery, but still natural. It doesn’t feel heavy or thick on the skin either. I really like that it has a wide range of skin tone shades so it’s easier to find the right match.

Texture: A medium-weighted cream that needs a bit of effort to blend.
Feel: Surprisingly weightless for its texture.
Finish: Slightly matte with a powdery look and feel.
Fragrance: Fragrance-free.
Lasting Power: Lasts the entire day without budging. Impressive.

Hourglass ambient soft glow foundation is priced at $96 (30 ml) and available online at SEPHORA.SG.

Guerlain Parure Gold Skin Matte
SPF 15 — PA+++

The bottle says that this foundation is infused with 24K gold and white peony, which Guerlain says is extremely hydrating and soothing to skin. And yes, this liquid foundation feels really great. I really love the “watery” texture that reminds me Estée Lauder’s winning Double Wear liquid foundation. It’s not so watery that it’s drippy, but it’s the perfect silky texture that is super easy to blend. It sinks into skin becoming part of it and instantly smoothing and evening it out.

The downside for me would be the product’s strong fragrance that can get a bit cloying. While I like the scent of the brand’s famous Meteorites powder, the fragrance in this foundation comes off far too perfumed, which isn’t for everyone.

This is the matte version of Guerlain’s new foundation, and while the finish is matte-ish, it’s not overly so. Skin still looks dimensional, and most importantly, not cakey and natural.

Texture: A silky lightweight liquid that glides over skin.
Feel: Hydrating and refreshing.
Finish: Nicely matte with dimension.
Fragrance: Strong.
Lasting Power: Still looks fresh and matte towards the end of the day. Good for Singapore weather.

Guerlain Parure Gold Skin Matte, Price TBC.

Clé De Peau Beauté Le Fond De Teint The Foundation
SPF 25 PA++

I suppose when any beauty product — especially makeup — costs $430, expectations of it are high. But I can’t say I’m surprised by this price, since it’s from Clé De Peau Beauté, whose concealer (award-winning though!) retails for $105.

So the first thing to know about this foundation, is that it’s a makeup/skincare hybrid, which makes it easier to justify, and for users of the brand’s skincare, you know how good their products are. This cream feels light and fluffy, and spreads really easily. A little goes a long way, so even though the jar is small (it’s just 28ml), it should last last you at least 6 to 10 months depending on how much you slather on. Again — this spreads well so you need very, very little product to cover the whole face.

I love that it’s very lightly scented, and it smells like the brand’s skincare, which is soothing and delightful. I do love the beautiful jar that this comes in — it sparkles on my table and just simply looks expensive (also because it is!). Most of all, I love the soft, natural finish upon application; it feels comforting and does a decent job of evening out skin tone and smoothing out the skin’s texture.

Ingredients include a “Blur Perfection Technology EX” that claims to make the skin appear firmer and give it a lustrous finish, and a “Light-Empowering Enhancer” that creates a radiant finish. While this product goes on fairly matte, it’s not a matte foundation, so expect a little bit of shine where the light hits the face.

Texture: A light, fluffy cream that blends smoothly.
Feel: Comfortable and luxurious.
Finish: Soft-looking and natural with a slight glow at the high points of the face.
Fragrance: Lightly scented. Smells fresh and uplifting.
Lasting Power: Skin starts to shine a little bit towards the evening.

The Foundation retails at $430.00 (28 ml). it’s available at the Clé de Peau Beauté flagship boutique at Mandarin Gallery, and at Clé de Peau Beauté counters at BHG Bugis, Isetan Scotts, Takashimaya and TANGS at Tang Plaza.

Review: Australian Hair Care Brand DunGüd Impresses With Easy-To-Use, Clean Formulas

Australian hair care brand DunGüd isn’t afraid to declare that they make “products for the people” — and while the claim might sound like a bold one in today’s saturated hair care market, it’s clear why they’ve gained such a cult following.

The brand is forthright about their ingredients, where most of their products incorporate native Australian botanical extracts such as Emu Apple and Waratah Flower Extract as a nod to their country of origin; the cruelty-free formulas do without sulphates, parabens, and propylene glycol as well.

First impressions: DunGüd (pronounced ‘Done Good’) is fun and youthful, and certainly a pleasant addition to the bathroom. Veering away from the minimalist aesthetic, DunGüd packages their Aussie-made products with eye-catching graphics — rubber duckies and slinkies, for instance — and interesting names, such as ‘Bimbo’ for their blonde treatment.

Sure, it might all be marketing at its best, but they back this sentiment with easy-to-use formulas that work with our modern lifestyles too, whether that’s a lightweight foam that results in surprisingly bouncy hair, or shampoos and treatments that condition hair, giving off a glossy shine.

Interestingly enough, DunGüd was found by two industry veterans, Phil Taylor and Kass Nagi, who launched their line of unisex hair care products early 2020. Both of them bring their wealth of experiences to form the foundation of the brand, from Taylor’s career as a hairdresser in the 90s, to their work in the realms of hair care and men’s grooming product development, education and marketing. The latter was definitely done to success, as the brand goes on to target young, fashion-savvy individuals, particularly after making its appearance as part of Gucci and adidas editorial campaigns.

The brand is available in Singapore at Woorailoora’s website, which brought in DunGüd under their stable of professional hair and beauty products just last year, and already, we spy some beauty, fashion and editorial campaigns on their social media feed. A series with Miss Universe Singapore 2021 finalists sees them shows off shiny tresses both slicked-back and with curls, for instance, both wonderful effects we can attest to after trying out some of their products.

Read on for our review of their new items — a shampoo and conditioner series, blonde treatment, body building foam, curl enhancing cream, and a volumising hairspray.

IN THE SHOWER

— DaySpa .. Restorative Shampoo
— Day Spa .. Restorative Conditioner
— Bimbo .. Blonde Treatment

This is DunGüd’s solution to dry, damaged hair, especially one that’s been recently bleached, which perfectly describes my current hair condition. The ‘DaySpa’ series relies on both Australian-native Waratah Flower Extract and Argan Oil to repair and hydrate hair, while the cheekily-named Bimbo contains violent pigments to neutralise brassy tones.

dayspa .. restorative shampoo, $36

For a clean shampoo that’s without sulphates, I was impressed by its lathering power, considering that my hair was of a thicker texture. A rich lather helps greatly with a thorough clean, especially by getting rid of the day’s grime in between hair and across the scalp, which was certainly the experience here; furthermore, the pearly-pink liquid made for a luxurious time in the shower.

For its key ingredients, Waratah Flower Extract is certainly a unique one — the Australian flower is packed with amino acids to help with hair repair and improve on its shine and lustre. There’s also Argan Oil that’s loaded with fatty acids and antioxidants to hydrate hair and ensure it retains its moisture. Despite the former, I felt that the shampoo wasn’t heavy, nor was my hair weighed down by its formula after. With everyday use, it made my hair look glossy and healthy too.

dayspa .. restorative conditioner, $36

First of all, how cute are the rubber duckies on the packaging! Similar to the DaySpa shampoo, the accompanying conditioner contains Waratah Flower Extract and Argan Oil, which calls for complementary benefits. The texture of the formula felt similar to most conditioners out there, with a creamy emollient consistency, and I applied it to the ends of my hair to further nourish and protect it. Notably, using this conditioner helped my hair feel noticeably smoother, tangle-free, and easier to manage than if I opted to skip the step.

Bimbo .. Blonde Treatment, $36

Meant to be used after shampoo, Bimbo is a blonde treatment that contains the brand’s violet colour technology, of cationic pigments that help maintain vibrant blondes. I believe it’s for both natural blondes and bleached hair, and I’m definitely in the latter category as I was looking for a solution to tone down the brassy yellow colour that shows up a few weeks after the initial hair dyeing session.

What was great about DunGüd’s product is that instead of the usual purple shampoo, they went for a conditioning hair and scalp treatment that further took care of my hair’s texture, while supplying it with violent pigments to help with its colour. I had to leave the treatment on for about five minutes before rinsing it off, kind of like a hair mask, which then ensures that the violet pigments, Davidson Plum (a superfood), and Nettle Leaf Extract had time to seep into my hair and work their magic. Both the last two ingredients contain antioxidants that help reduce free radical damage and protect hair from sun damage and the environment.

When using the product in the shower, the purple pigments were obvious on the surface of my hair, but washed away rather easily without staining my fingers or bathroom tiles; a good sign since I was all for a fuss-free experience. As expected, the colour toning effect was rather subtle for an at-home product, though more obvious on the lighter parts of my hair; more frequent use would probably improve this effect. I see this as more of a maintenance product in my hair routine, something that prevents my hair from becoming even more brassy-looking after every wash. For that, Bimbo is a nice addition to the routine since it conditions the hair so that it doesn’t lose its lustre from the DaySpa shampoo and conditioner.

POST-SHOWER

— Amped .. Body Building Foam
— Bounce Back .. Curl Enhancing Cream
— Blow Out .. Expansion Spray

Post-shower care is so important for any hair routine, though I must admit that I’m usually rather lazy about this, opting to just use my hair dryer without any styling products or heat protectant. DunGüd’s products might change my mind though, mostly because they’re so easy to use that it doesn’t feel like there’s much of an extra step involved. The volumising spray is a good staple to add volume, while the curl enhancing cream benefits those with curly hair or to retain created curls. My favourite of these though is the body building foam!

amped .. body building foam, $36

Why do I love this so much? Simply because I never thought I would, but it works brilliantly to create body and volume. The foamy texture is super lightweight and easy to apply; it disappears right into damp hair such that I didn’t think much about it after. Good to know: it contains two native Australian extracts as well. Emu Apple, found in the Australian outback, contains amino acids and sugar alcohol to strengthen and work as a natural humectant, while Tasmanian Pepper Berry is another superfood known for revitalising damaged hair.

After using a hairdryer as I would normally, I noticed that my hair had a light and fluffy texture that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to achieve without Amped. I even tried testing this product on just one side of my hair, and the other side without, in order to note a difference; the side with Amped looked and felt fuller and more voluminous, and just generally healthy-looking too since its moisture and glossiness was retained. That this effect came from such a lightweight foam really impressed me.

bounce back .. curl enhancing cream, $36

I’ve always felt like curling cream was a “nice to have” instead of a necessity for my hair condition, which naturally dries straight and stubbornly refuses to retain curls. This is where I could be wrong. It’s rich in Jojoba Oil, which contains multiple vitamins and minerals for nourishing hair, and Jasmin Flower Leaf Extract to help smooth hair cuticles and enhance the manageability for curly hair types.

While I didn’t have naturally curly hair, I found this product useful for retaining post-blowout curls. Firstly, the cream was of a rather viscous consistency that felt like a moisturising hair mask, and needed more than a few seconds to fully sink into my hair. After that, I followed my typical routine of drying my hair and scalp with a hairdryer, and leaving the hair ends not fully dry, but twisted outwards to create some texture and waves. A nice surprise was that the product helped create these soft curls and ensure that they last longer than usual; once set and fully dried, I was able to enjoy this effect all the way until my next wash. For those without curly hair looking to create waves, and especially if you’re a fan of heatless overnight curls, having a cream really is worth the additional step!

blowout .. expansion spray, $36

Whether just before heading out, or in between washes, a good hair spray ensures hair looks fresh and shiny, two things I’m grateful for when using Blowout. The hair spray is a fine mist that doesn’t feel weighty on hair, and yet, is able to give volume and body to flat hair, especially near its roots. Meant for both men and women, it’s of a medium hold as well, which helps with styling, and a touch of shine for healthy-looking tresses.

The product contains Australian-native Kakadu Plum, which has the highest concentration of natural Vitamin C of any known plant; this helps smooth and lock in essential moisture within the hair shaft. Bamboo is also added for its rich source of silica, a powerful ingredient that improves hair elasticity. Blowout is a reliable and no-brainer product that makes your hair look full and voluminous in no time, without any stiffness or crispiness. My hair still looked like hair, but better.

Pris Wong, editorial stylist of DunGüd Singapore, also raves about this product as she frequently uses it in her line of work — across various hair types too. “I love it because there is simply no white cast at all, no matter how much of it I spray! It doesn’t weigh down the hair, and works on all hair types, even the thinnest of hair. The spray adds light body, texture and air to your locks, and is an absolute dream to work with.”

The IKEA x Swedish House Mafia OBEGRÄNSAD Collection — A Record Player, All-Black Furniture And FRAKTA Bags

Picture this: all-black furniture, a vinyl player, and home accessories designed by the people who brought to us hits such as ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ and ‘Moth To A Flame’. How is this not the epitome of cool? Well, wait till you see what EDM powerhouse Swedish House Mafia has come up with for IKEA.

Swedish furniture brand IKEA has teamed up with the electronic dance music trio for the limited-edition OBEGRÄNSAD collection, made for music makers and music lovers alike, or, those who “produce, perform, play, or listen to music”.

With a name that means “unlimited” in Swedish, the collection builds upon the idea of musical democracy, as it caters to creatives who want to build the perfect home studio at an affordable price — that is, music producers, DJs and other creators with limited means but unlimited creativity.

[20 OCT UPDATE: The collection is slated to launch in IKEA Singapore stores on 27 October 2022, with more than 20 smart home furnishing solutions in total. See the full collection of items below.]

“Since we were kids, we have valued IKEA’s approach of making things affordable and available for a lot of people. We used to find a creative way to make IKEA furniture to accommodate our teenage lives as creatives, so the collaboration’s purpose was formed around our own personal journey in life”, said Swedish House Mafia about their collaboration.

In a recent virtual press conference, the group further elaborated on how they’d often “hack” IKEA furniture for their own studio set-up, and how they desire to reach out to “people who aspire to be home music producers, who can’t afford expensive furniture”.

highlights of the OBEGRÄNSAD collection — a record player, armchair and desk

The highlights of the OBEGRÄNSAD collection include a stunning record player, minimalist armchair, and a sleek desk with speaker stands and a pull-out shelf — announced during Milan Design Week 2022 in June.

Having a record player as the pièce de résistance of the collection makes sense for a bunch of musicians, who shared how vinyl is “one of the best ways to listen to music”. No doubts there. During the Milan Design Week presentation, IKEA designer Friso Wiersma also described the record player having a “solid, chunky design”, in order to make its presence known in the room, rather than opting for one that blends in.

The OBEGRÄNSAD armchair is similarly a study in form and function. The elegant design, while minimalist, is fitted with adjustable straps that allow one to finetune their comfort level. Its presence within the series is to create “a relaxing environment to enjoy your music experience in the home”.

why the colour black?

If you’re wondering why the colour black permeates every part of their collection, we’ve got answers too. For a collection that talks about celebrating the joy and love of music, you might find the all-black colour choice rather sombre. Not for these creatives though.

“It feels bold and strong,” said Swedish House Mafia of the unifying shade. “Aesthetically, it’s very pleasing. And there are many similarities [between the colour and us]: it’s a strong but keeps things simple, bold and courageous but not over-the-top. Black does that in a nice way.”

the full collection

IKEA will also be unveiling a full collection of more than 20 smart home furnishing solutions in total. This includes LED work, wall and floor lamps, a clock; laptop, tablet, speaker and record stands; a rug and sleepers, a throw and a cushion cover; and a trio of FRAKTA bags.

An OBEGRÄNSAD shelving unit is said to be a remake of the KALLAX, now higher and designed with extra space for amplifiers and vinyl records, while a mix of lighting options, ambient light from a clock, and soft furnishings are just as important to get one into a creative flow.

The OBEGRÄNSAD shelving unit, an updated version of the KALLAX that’s the perfectly size for a record player.
The OBEGRÄNSAD clock, an abstract design that no doubt takes design cues from a vinyl record.
The OBEGRÄNSAD rug, in a sound-dampening fluffy faux fur style that’s made from recycled polyester.
the frakta bags

All black and all functional, we’ll be getting three versions of the iconic FRAKTA bag as well. There’s a padded shoulder bag that fits a laptop, an accessory bag with compartments to keep cables, cords and accessories, and a large bag with a perfectly square shape to hold vinyl records.

“FRAKTA is one of those IKEA classics that everyone has. We wanted to do our take on it from a music creation perspective depending on what type of gear you carry with you on the go,” said Swedish House Mafia.

Designed for music on-the-go, both IKEA and Swedish House Mafia imagine this reinterpretation of the FRAKTA in scenarios that include a DJ going from their home studio to a gig, or music lovers coming home from a record store, or sharing some of their favourite records. The bags are made of the same sturdy material as their predecessor, though with a thicker weave on the ribbon handle “like a car seatbelt”, for a more sturdy construction.

The IKEA OBEGRÄNSAD collection, designed in collaboration with Swedish House Mafia, will launch in IKEA Singapore stores 27 October 2022.

Level Up with The Swatch x Dragon Ball Z Collection, Featuring Inspired Designs From Iconic Characters

As Goku would say, “power comes in response to a need, not a desire”. Well, consider this: nothing can give you more of a boost to your Dragon Ball Z rep than the need to get a watch that showcases your love for one of the most popular manga and anime series of all time.

Meet The Finalists In The Running For This Year’s Mr World Singapore

Male pageants aren’t quite what you’d imagine them to be. Sure, there may still be lots of bare skin as the contestants show off their hot bods in swimming trunks, but let’s just say, they’ve got style and substance. At least, that seemed to be the case when we met 14 of the 25 finalists of this year’s Mr World 2022 pageant.

The diverse group of men arrive from all walks of life, each with a meaningful story to tell — and a compelling reason for them to join the competition. It wasn’t just to celebrate their masculinity, some of them shared about wanting to break the mould of a typical pageant contestant, or being a positive role model to people like them.

We’ve got fitness trainers and hospitality professionals alongside an orthopaedics nurse who drags on the side; a marketing manager who had to overcome a stutter; someone who influences Singapore’s healthcare policies, a firefighter, and naval officer; a road accident survivor who currently has over 20 metal implants in his body; and an ex-convict who had spent 11 years of his life in prison.

In fact, the theme for this year’s Mr World Singapore competition is ‘changing lives’, which acknowledges how our lives have changed during the past two years of living through the pandemic. It also looks at one’s resilience, with the hope that “no matter how things change, the courage and strength with which a man approaches and copes with the obstacles in his life”, and search for deeper meaning, still remains his lifelong pursuit. As a result, our contestants are candid about making new friends and gaining confidence, especially in a competition that might reveal their deepest insecurities, even as it spotlights their strengths.

Handpicked from more than 100 potential candidates, organisers Beam Artistes then narrowed the selection down to just 25 finalists in the Class of 2022, who will gather for Coronation Night on 8 September 2022.

During the finale, 4 grand winners will be awarded, which then makes the evening the biggest male pageant night in Singapore’s history. The titles are: Mr World Singapore 2022, Mr World Singapore Senior 2022 (for finalists 30 and above), Mr Grand International Singapore 2022, and Man of the World Singapore 2022.

To further challenge their skills, the contestants are tasked to compete in various performance challenges — either acting, dancing, singing, or mixed martial arts. This involved them being put through a gruelling weekend, and sometimes weekday, schedule where they’re trained by the respective industry professionals, all in anticipation of a grand finale on Coronation Night.

Here are 14 of the 25 contestants, their current professions, as well as some of the stories they’ve shared with us:

Everything From Apple’s September Keynote — The iPhone 14, Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch Series 8, and AirPods Pro with New H2 Chip

In spite of the rumours that build up over the months, September is always an exciting time in the tech industry, especially when tech giant Apple announces all-new devices, set to join their vast ecosystem.

In the recent Fall Keynote (that happened at 1am SGT last night), Apple unveiled the latest iPhone 14 with the most advanced Pro lineup ever, a bigger Apple Watch Ultra, the new Apple Watch Series 8 alongside a redesigned Apple Watch SE, and an updated AirPods Pro with an H2 Chip. Here’s a closer look at each new device.

1. Apple iPhone 14

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

Available in two sizes — 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch respectively — the iPhone 14 (from $1,299) and iPhone 14 Plus (from $1,499) each features a durable and sleek aerospace-grade aluminium design in five finishes alongside a durable Ceramic Shield front cover, which protects from common spills and accidents with water and dust resistance. The larger display of the iPhone 14 Plus allows for a better viewing experience while streaming movies and playing games with better battery life.

Both models have an updated internal design for better thermal performance as well as Super Retina XDR displays with OLED technology that supports 1,200 nits of peak HDR brightness, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and Dolby Vision.

Cameras have also been upgraded to present a new standard for photo and video capture that you will enjoy. These include:

📸 New 12MP Main Camera that enables improvements in all lighting scenarios for better detail and motion freezing, less noise, faster exposure times, and sensor-shift optical image stabilisation

📸 New front TrueDepth camera that enables better low-light performance, uses autofocus for the first time for faster focus in low light giving the ability to capture group shots from farther away

📸 New Action mode to shoot smooth-looking video that adjusts to significant shakes, motion and vibrations even when the video is being captured in the middle of an action

📸 Ultra Wide Camera that offers a unique perspective for wider shots with improvements to low-light photos through the Photonic Engine, a deep integration of hardware and software that enables the imaging process to deliver more detail, preserve subtle textures and provide better colour

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

The iPhone 14 Pro in deep purple.

The iPhone 14 Pro (from $1,649) and iPhone 14 Pro Max (from $1,799) are dubbed the most advanced Pro lineup ever and feature the Dynamic Island, a new design that introduces an intuitive way for you to experience iPhone, and the Always-On display, here for the first time ever on an iPhone.

Just two terms to know:

  • Dynamic Island — A widget on top of the phone that “bubbles up music, sport scores, FaceTime” and more, without leaving your current app or task.
  • Always-On display — Your Lock Screen is now instantly available at a glance, without the need of tapping. It only goes dark to save battery life when the iPhone is turned face down or in your pocket.

Coming in at 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch respectively, both phones include a new Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion, offering the highest outdoor peak brightness in a smartphone, which is twice as bright as the iPhone 13 Pro.

Powered by A16 Bionic, the fastest chip ever in a smartphone, you will not only get better performance with your games and apps but also a new class of pro camera system (with the same features as the iPhone 14) and these additional upgrades:

📸 First-ever 48MP Main Camera on iPhone with a quad-pixel sensor that adapts to the photo being captured and enables a 2x Telephoto option for full-resolution photos and 4K videos with no digital zoom

📸 New 12MP Ultra Wide camera which delivers sharper images with more detail, improving the already powerful macro photography capabilities

📸 Improved Telephoto camera that offers 3x optical zoom

📸 Powerful computational photography benefits like Night mode, Smart HDR, 4 Portrait modes with Portrait Lighting, Night mode Portrait photos, Photographic Styles, and Apple ProRAW

iPhone 14 Series

The entire iPhone 14 lineup introduces groundbreaking safety capabilities that can provide emergency assistance when it matters most. These include Crash Detection which can now detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services when you may be unconscious or unable to reach your iPhone.

Another nifty feature is the Emergency SOS via satellite which combines custom components deeply integrated with software to allow antennas to connect directly to a satellite, enabling messaging with emergency services when outside of cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. This breakthrough technology also allows you to manually share your location over satellite with Find My even when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connection, providing you with a safety net of sorts especially when you go hiking or camping off the grid.

The IPHONE 14 is priced from $1,299 and will be available starting 16 September. The IPHONE 14 PLUS is priced from $1,499 and will be available starting 7 October while both the IPHONE 14 PRO and IPHONE 14 PRO MAX, priced from $1,649 and $1,799 respectively, will be available starting 16 September.
Pre-orders will start from 8pm SGT on 9 September HERE. Do note that there is a limit of two models each per customer.

2. Apple Watch Ultra

Inspired by the most extreme activities, the Apple Watch Ultra (from $1,199) introduces a 49mm titanium case and flat sapphire front crystal that reveals the biggest and brightest Apple Watch display yet. Made from aerospace-grade titanium, the watch comes with a new customisable action button to give you instant access to a variety of features including Workouts, Compass Waypoints, and Backtrack.

It also has three built-in microphones to significantly improve sound quality in voice calls during any conditions, ensuring clarity while reducing ambient background sounds even in challenging windy environments.

Powered by watchOS 9, the new Apple Watch Ultra includes new advanced running metrics to measure performance, new Workout Views, as well as new features such as Heart Rate Zones, Custom Workout, Pacer, and Race Route (coming later this year), which makes for a great all-in-one device to have with you whether you are an endurance athlete or a budding fitness guru.

Women can also take advantage of the innovative new temperature-sensing capabilities which lets you better track your health by receiving retrospective ovulation estimates and improved period predictions.

Designed with explorers in mind, the watch acts as a perfect technical tool for adventurers and explorers in a range of environments, from the everyday to the extreme. For urban adventurers and hiking enthusiasts, the completely redesigned Compass app will now give you more in-depth information with three distinct views alongside Backtrack, which uses GPS data to create a path showing where you were — a useful feature to have if you ever get lost or disoriented and need help getting back.

Aside from adventures on land, the Apple Watch Ultra is also built for water sports, including extreme activities like kitesurfing and wakeboarding, along with recreational Scuba diving to 40 metres with the new Oceanic+ app, which has been developed in partnership with Huish Outdoors. To support these underwater adventures, the Apple Watch Ultra is also certified to WR100 and EN13319, which is an internationally recognised standard for dive accessories.

The APPLE WATCH ULTRA is priced from $1,199 and will be available starting 23 September. Pre-orders can be made HERE.

3. Apple Watch

Apple Watch Series 8

With all-day 18-hour battery life, the Apple Watch Series 8 (from $599) features the power of WatchOS 9 in the well-received design of the Apple Watch, including a large, Always-On Retina display, and builds on the best-in-class health and safety features like the ECG app and fall detection by introducing temperature-sensing capabilities, retrospective ovulation estimates, Crash Detection and international roaming.

To keep you connected for even longer, a new Low Power Mode is also included to help extend battery life to reach up to 36 hours with an iPhone present.

Apple Watch SE

The new Apple Watch SE (from $379) delivers the core Apple Watch experience at a new low price and is a great way for you to start your Apple Watch journey if you don’t already have one. Maintaining the same case design, the matching back case has been redesigned using nylon composite material to make it more lightweight and includes a powerful upgrade to its processor to that of the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra, making it 20% faster than the previous generation.

The APPLE WATCH SERIES 8 is priced from $599 while the APPLE WATCH SE is priced from $379. Both models will be available starting 16 September.
Pre-orders can be made HERE. Do note that there is a limit of two models each per customer.

4. AirPods Pro (2nd Generation)

If you have been on the fence about the AirPods, these might just be the ones you’ve been waiting for. Dubbed their most advanced AirPods ever, the second generation of the premium AirPods Pro ($359) comes with the power of the new H2 chip and major upgrades to Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode while offering Personalised Spatial Audio, which allows you to create a personal listening profile with your iPhone to tune your audio experience just the way you like it.

Built into a lightweight and compact body, the power of the new H2 chip provides an exceptional acoustic experience and cancels up to twice as much noise compared with the previous generation. With a new low-distortion audio driver and custom amplifier, the AirPods Pro now offer richer bass and crystal-clear sound across a wider range of frequencies.

It also presents Adaptive Transparency, an upgrade which enables on-device processing and reduces loud environment noise like construction tools or a passing vehicle siren to give you more comfortable listening.

The new AirPods Pro also comes with extended battery life, giving you an additional 1.5 hours of listening time over the first generation, for a total of up to six hours with Active Noise Cancellation. The newly designed sweat and water-resistant case give four additional charges where you can enjoy up to 30 hours of total listening time, even with Active Noise Cancellation. The case’s Precision Finding feature leverages the built-in speaker to deliver louder tones for you to locate your charging case when you misplace them.

The AIRPODS PRO (2nd generation) is priced at $359 and is available from 23 September. Pre-orders start 19 September HERE. Do note that there is a limit of two units per customer.

The Doraemon Exhibition will make its debut outside of Japan for the first time at the National Museum of Singapore from 5 November 2022 to 5 February 2023. It will bring together a selection of contemporary artworks that reinterprets Doraemon in our changing world, while showcasing its cultural impact since its birth in 1970.

First held in 2002, the Doraemon Exhibition was restaged in 2017 at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Tokyo and has since toured over eight cities in Japan, with the most recent held in Okayama earlier this year. The upcoming showcase in Singapore will be the first global edition featuring distinctive artworks from 28 leading contemporary Japanese artists and arts groups such as Takashi Murakami, Mika Ninagawa, and Yoshitomo Nara, with their take on Doraemon through paintings, sculptures, graphics, and photography.

In addition to the artworks, a selection of original drawings and sketches by Doraemon creator, the late Mr Fujiko will also be on display. These pieces from the Fujiko F Fujio Museum will be part of a specially dedicated feature of the exhibition in its first-ever public showcase in Asia.

Puma x MCM Join Forces For A Basketball-Themed Collection, Starting With The Slipstream Lo

With the goal of taking basketball out of the courts and onto the streets — a given these days, considering how popular street fashion is — sporting giant PUMA has teamed up with luxury German fashion house MCM for their take on modern streetwear. The items will be released in a series of three drops, starting with a one-of-a-kind MCM edition of the PUMA Slipstream Lo on 8 September, followed by subsequent drops in October and early 2023.

In fact, this isn’t the first time the two brands are working together; their last collaboration was in 2018 where they debuted a special edition of the PUMA Suede.

But yes, the Slipstream Lo. Modelled by up-and-coming basketball star Mikey Williams, the shoe features distinct MCM details, most notably with the cognac Visetos Monogram taking over the PUMA Formstrip, making this a true union of two iconic styles. Other parts of the court shoes see suede accents, a textural contrast to the smooth panel, in complementary brown and yellow.

“The collaboration between MCM and PUMA tells a great story of the heritage of both brands, but also how important culture is for MCM and the connection to all relevant topics for our consumer — from sport, music, to the influence of street-culture for luxury brands,” says Dirk Schönberger, MCM Global Brand Officer.

The next drop, out in October, will include a different version of the PUMA Slipstream Lo in black and white, and embellished by MCM’s Cubic Monogram. This will then be followed by a third and final drop launched in the first half of 2023, a full-fledged series of ready-to-wear apparel and what’s said to be an eye-catching take on the PUMA TRC Blaze Court Shoe.

See close-ups of the PUMA x MCM Slipstream Lo here:

The first drop of the PUMA x MCM Slipstream Lo, $729, will be available from 6 September 2022 at MCM Worldwide stores, online, and retailers including Limited Edt Vault and CHAMBER.

Review: Which Sunscreen From Cult-Favourite Brand Ultra Violette Should You Get?

We’ve said this countless times, but it deserves to be repeated — sunscreen is essential to your skincare routine, and if you haven’t gotten into the habit of applying daily, it ought to start now. Not to sound alarmist or anything, but photoageing, or premature ageing caused by the skin’s exposure to UV, is a thing, and thankfully, easily prevented with sunscreen.

We get it though, sunscreen can often feel like a hassle or extra step, but here’s a new brand to know: Ultra Violette. Devoted to making sunscreen utterly un-boring, the young Australian beauty brand has officially landed in Singapore with cult-favourite products that do away with the suffocating, sticky or stinging formulas that we might associate with SPF products.

Instead, they’ve come up with the term ‘Skinscreens’, to describe formulas that combine sunscreen and skincare made to look, feel, and naturally fit into your daily skincare routine. Plus, and I know this is an assumption, but hear us out — Australia also happens to be one of the toughest places in the world to get sunscreen approved, and they’ve passed with, well, flying colours. Their sunscreens are free from reef-killing oxybenzone, and are cruelty-free and made in Australia, while containing powerful native Aussie antioxidants that help brighten, hydrate and nourish your skin.

The Queen Screen, in particular, has been lauded by beauty content creators all over the world, and has become a bit of an Internet-famous celebrity herself, as she offers broad-spectrum UV protection while feeling like a luxury skincare serum. The best part? She’s silky, lightweight, and leaves skin with a stunning glow as well. We definitely couldn’t resist giving it a go — review below!

Ultra Violette’s fun packaging also makes their products very welcome on our vanity tables and bathroom counters, and of course, we have to mention how smooth and luscious they feel on the skin. Most of these formulas are suitable for all skin types as well, including sensitive ones, and cater to different skincare needs, whether you’re looking for a mattifying primer, something that gives your skin extra hydration, or even SPF for healthy and glossy lips. Ahead, we review some of the most prominent products from the brand’s extensive collection.

REVIEW

THE BESTSELLER:
— Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF 50+ Luminising Serum Skinscreen, $55

What it is: It looks like a serum, but is really a sunscreen hallowed for a silky lightweight texture that melts into the skin, leaving behind a glowy finish that’s great under makeup. Antioxidant ingredients such as the famed Aussie-native Kakadu Plum, can also be found here, while the sunscreen is ideal for normal to dry skin.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

No lie, I had really doubted the serum bottle for its practicality. I’m not the kind who’d complete my skincare and makeup routine diligently while sitting at a vanity table, and I like to bring my sunscreens out with me, so the glass bottle and dropper dispenser seemed like a hassle to me. All these concerns though, quite literally, melted away when I tried the sunscreen on my skin! I finally got why it’s such a holy grail product.

Queen Screen texture — when first applied.
Queen Screen texture — after blending it out.
Texture & FINISH

Definitely, one of the things that had me going back for more. Queen Screen has a milky, serum-like consistency that was quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving zero white cast. It’s super lightweight and smooth to apply, but not greasy at all, and kind of feels like good skincare. I felt that the brand had nailed the usually laborious process of applying sunscreen, by making this easy to use and as non-sunscreen-like as possible, without the usual icky texture and overpowering scent of sunscreen; instead, there’s a comforting rose scent that made me feel good about the product.

What really makes this stand out though, is that finish. You’re looking at dewy, glowing skin that looks moisturised and healthy. It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything at all, but you still get that radiant look — this looks good on its own and underneath makeup as well, which doesn’t slip or pill when applied on top. Also, skincare ingredients, and a top-grade SPF50+ while at it? This one’s a winner.

THE SUNSCREENS:
— Ultra Violette Supreme Screen SPF 50 Hydrating Facial Skinscreen, $52
— Ultra Violette Clean Screen SPF 30 Fragrance Free Weightless Gel Skinscreen, $48
— Ultra Violette Lean Screen SPF 50+ Mattifying Zinc Skinscreen, $52

supreme screen

What it is: A multi-tasking, SPF50 sunscreen that moisturises, protects against UV damage, and primes skin for makeup — and while hydrating for our skin and containing multiple ingredients that give us long-lasting hydration; it promises to not slide under makeup too.

Our thoughts: I know I already picked a ‘top pick’, but the Supreme Screen is a very close contender from the moment I tried it on. The formula had a nice cream texture with a skin-like tint when first applied, but then dried sheer and seems to disappear into the skin, blending in such that it’s neither glowy like the Queen Screen, nor matte like the rest. I particular enjoyed its smooth, creamy texture, which made the sunscreen application experience feel less like a dread. I also detected a rosy scent that, for me, added to the “not-sunscreen” experience, though those with sensitive skin might want to check out the other options.

The Supreme Screen has also been tested under countless foundations, concealers and BB creams (remember those?), and it shows. When left on, it didn’t feel at all greasy or oily, and the whole idea of a white cast isn’t even a concern due to how it naturally blended into the skin. I use this on top of moisturiser and my face felt hydrated throughout the day; it didn’t make my light base makeup pill or feel slippery either, so this absolutely works as a highly-protective primer. That it’s in a tube format is also a lot more practical, especially if you’re touting this around on beach or vacation days.

Swatches of the Supreme Screen, Clean Screen and Lean Screen.
clean screen

What it is: Formulated for those with extra sensitive skin, this one’s made to be gentle and in a super-lightweight gel texture. It’s fragrance-free, SPF30 formula contains Titanium Dioxide, an ultra-gentle UV filter, making it suitable for reactive and acne-prone, or normal to combination skin.

Our thoughts: Next on my list, the Clean Screen for its weightless gel texture. As you can see from the above swatches, I find this to be a little less “seamless” when compared to the Supreme Screen, though everything great about the former is retained here — it’s not greasy, smooth on application, feels lightweight on skin, and dries to a natural skin-like finish that isn’t too dewy or matte. Since this one’s made for sensitive skin types, you won’t find added fragrance or alcohol within the formula. I don’t have particularly sensitive skin, but plenty of users with acne-prone skin or rosacea skin have left glowing reviews on their Aussie site! There might be a little trade-off with the SPF protection here, but Titanium Dioxide is still a solid active ingredient for its broad spectrum protection and skin-soothing properties.

lean screen

What it is: The brand’s first physical SPF with a zinc-only formula, that is, only zinc oxide is used for its SPF50+ UV protection. “Minimal ingredients with maximum UVA/UVB protection”, they say. Good for those with sensitive skin and those who prefer a matte finish, particularly if you have oily or reactive skin.

Our thoughts: That this is a zinc-only formula certainly impresses, but I wasn’t quite a fan of its thicker, matte texture, which perhaps can’t be helped since we are talking about a physical sunscreen here. Its consistency felt like a thick moisturiser, with a more peachy-beige tint that did dry down sheer when spread out. The good thing here is that it’s as matte as claimed! There was no overpowering scent, and no shine either when left on skin, while the slight tint helped even out my skin tone and blur pores; you can opt to skip the foundation then. Lots of sensitive-skin users have also reported that it works wonderfully for them without irritation or redness. I’d personally still prefer a more lightweight sunscreen, but if you want high SPF50+ protection, have more reactive or oily skin, this might be a better option.

THE LIP BALMS:
— Ultra Violette Sheen Screen SPF 50 Hydrating Lip Balm in Shimmer, Rose, Peach, Nude and Flamingo, $26 each

What it is: A glossy lip balm that also protects the lips from UV damage. These contain ultra-hydrating lanolin, cacao seed and shea butters so that we get soft and smooth lips throughout the day, while the formula arrives in either Shimmer, for colourless holographic shine, or four other shades with sheer or tinted pigments. Expect shiny lips as well.

Sheen Screen swatches — Shimmer and Peach.

Our thoughts: I immediately reached for Shimmer, the clear shade, and it didn’t disappoint. The tubes reminded me of 90s lip gloss, which to be fair aren’t the most elegant, though they still get the job done since they can be applied directly onto the lips with just one hand. The fuss-free life. Its texture also felt a lot like gloss when glided on, and is a little sticky though it did create a protective layer over my lips that kept them well-hydrated for long hours. Shimmer also created a subtle dimensional glow that I love.

Now, colour options. Rose is said to be a tinted dusty mauve and the most opaque of the bunch, but I’m not sure the pink was a good match for my skin tone; it felt a little too cool-toned and Barbie-like. Dusk and Peach though were perfect. Peach gave a sheer golden-peach shimmer, which complemented my usual peachy makeup looks, while Dusk was a neutral, universal warm beige that flattered my natural lip colour.

Bugaboo Donkey 5 — The Ultimate Side-by-Side Double Stroller for Twins

Bugaboo has been busy. Just in the last few years, they’ve introduced the Bee 6 (a city stroller), Fox 3 (an all-terrain comfort stroller), Stardust (a premium portable cot), and Butterfly (a one-second-fold compact stroller). But there’s one other stroller that many parents tend to overlook, and that’s the Donkey. The Donkey has also been the “bigger” stroller, the one for twins or two siblings that are close in age (like a newborn and toddler). And because of its larger size and many functions, it’s priced higher than the standard single stroller, and understandably so. So the big question here is, how will it fare in your household? Is it the pram for your family?

IT’S NOT THAT WIDE.

The base model for the new Bugaboo Donkey 5 is the mono configuration. This is a single seater meant for one child. And in the mono setting, the stroller is really only 60cm wide, which is the same width as the Bugaboo Fox 3. But the magic and purpose most parents get the Donkey for, is to use it in the Duo or Twin mode — two seaters or bassinets side-by-side; and this increases the width of the stroller by only 14cm, making it 74cm wide in total.

Above: The Bugaboo Donkey 5 in the mono configuration, which is 60cm wide (left) and duo setting, which is 74cm wide (right).

DUO / TWIN MODE

For parents with two young kids close in age — or with twins — having two seats in one stroller is necessary if you’re bringing them out solo. And of course, trust Bugaboo to let you do it in style, and with all the safety features that their products are known for (more on that below).

Above: The Bugaboo Donkey 5 in duo mode featuring a seat and a bassinet. This also promotes closeness between the kids.

With twins, your choices are really: get two strollers and each parent pushes one, get a tandem stroller where one seat is above the other like a bunkbed, or get a double stroller with seats that are side-by-side (like the Bugaboo Donkey 5). It definitely comes down to personal preference and requirements. For example, if you need a narrow stroller because of narrow spaces like corridors and store aisles, you’d probably do better with a tandem stroller. But side-by-side strollers are preferable for twins, because you can keep an eye on both kids at once, which is needed if they’re newborns.

Above: The bugaboo donkey 5 in twin mode measures 74cm wide, which fits through all standard doors. This will also easily go through the wide afc (automatic fare collection) gate at mrt stations.

SAFETY FIRST

The shoulder pads are really cushy yet firm; and the safety harness is easy to operate — just snap them in to secure the kid, and push the centre button to release. The straps are also fully adjustable so the kids are strapped in nice and tight.

I really like the large wheels on the Donkey 5; according to Bugaboo, they are puncture-proof (I’ll take their word for it), and they roll really smoothly over rougher terrains like gravel and grass. The front wheels mount pedestrian kerbs easily, while the larger back wheels make it really easy to go down a step (remember to go backwards).

STEERING

Steering the Donkey 5 around is a dream; it pushes forward with just the lightest touch and it has a small turning radius so manoeuvring around department stores is a breeze. And while it doesn’t have the advanced suspension of the Bugaboo Fox 3 (this one is a true all-terrain stroller), you can still feel that the Donkey provides the kids with a smooth ride; bumps and humps aren’t obvious so babies can sleep through your shopping spree at Motherswork.

SEATS

With all Bugaboo strollers, the seats are elevated (the seat height for the Donkey 5 is 57cm from the ground), so the kids are always within easy reach, and you can roll the pram right up to a restaurant or dining table, and it’s the perfect height for the child.

Above: the bugaboo donkey 5 in twin setting, featuring two bassinets or two seats side-by-side.

The bassinet and seat can also face either way — forward or backward (facing you). It’s a simple lift and click back in place. The seat can also recline in three positions, including one lying down, which is useful when changing diapers and of course when the child falls asleep.

Above: The seat canopy has a peekaboo mesh window so you can see the kid when in the front-facing position.

BASSINET

When it comes to a bassinet, you can’t get any better quality than the one that comes with a Bugaboo. The bassinet on the new Donkey 5 has a breezy mesh so it doesn’t get stuffy in the little cot, plus you can easily cover it when needed (eg. if you’re in an air-conditioned mall). There’s also an aerated mattress so if your little one turns around and lies flat on the tummy, they can still breathe easily.

FOLDING

Folding the Donkey 5 is made really easy with safety buttons on the side, and it can fold into a self-standing structure. It’s intuitive if you’re a previous Bugaboo user, but takes a little bit of practice for new parents. But once you know where the buttons are and where to pull up from, it’s not hard at all. You can watch the official Donkey 5 video on Bugaboo’s YouTube channel to see it in action (the folding happens at the 3-minute mark):

STORAGE

If you’re using the Donkey 5 in the mono setting, you can attach the side luggage basket for more storage space.

Above: in the mono setting, you get heaps of storage in the side and underseat baskets.

EYE-CATCHING DESIGN

Like all Bugaboo strollers, the Donkey 5 is available in an array of beautiful fabric colour options. If you’re expecting twins, you could get different canopy colours like this:

My favourite colour combination for the Donkey 5 has to be the forest green fabric set against an all-black chassis:

In Singapore, you can check in Motherswork stores for colour options and other accessories. I recommend getting the Bugaboo Cup Holder, the Comfort Wheeled Board (if you have a toddler), and the Changing Bag, which really fits everything you need for the kids.

TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?

The Bugaboo Donkey 5 is really quite an investment for the family; but if you have twins, it’s possibly your best option for a double stroller. It’s sleek, safe, and comfortable to use for both parents and kids. For families with just one kid, you could use this in the Mono setting, and hang on to it for the next many years while you plan for the next baby to come along; and then you can finally put that bassinet and seat in the side-by-side configuration. This is a pram that grows along with your family; it’s practical and useful, albeit on the pricey side. But then more often than not, quality and convenience comes at a price. If you can afford it and you’re looking to invest in a double stroller, the Donkey 5 is an excellent choice.

The Bugaboo Donkey 5 Mono Complete is priced at $2,329 and available at Motherswork ONLINE and physical STORES.

How To Nail Juicy And Full-Looking Nude Lips With These Lip Liner Hacks

I’ve always struggled with finding a use for lip liners — until TikTok. If you’ve been on the social media app, you’ll know how eerily accurate their algorithm is, so of course we get pushed beauty content all the time. Not that we’re complaining, of course. From foundation hacks to skincare recommendations, there’s a plethora of user-generated content out there for us to discover. The latest tried-and-tested makeup tip? Brown lip liners.

Yes, we’re well-aware that this is a resurgence of the popular brown lip liner trend back in the 90s, sported by runway supermodels Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell nonetheless, though we’re now armed with modern tools.

The gist of the style involves picking a lip liner shade that’s slightly darker than your lipstick of choice, and then outlining your lips with it before filling them in with lipstick. This darker shade forms a sort of shadow and definition that makes your actual lips stand out, giving the illusion of plumper pout. A more contemporary twist, what TikTok calls Bratz Doll lips, involves applying gloss on top to really hone in on that shine.

Read on as we take you through two TikTok-popular lip liner tutorials, and recommend some of today’s best lip liners to achieve your desired look.

#1: Brown Lip Liner — for juicy, plump lips

Reply to @ihateyou101_ i posted another tutorial a little before this one but lolz i wanted to do it again 😭 #lipliner #liptutorial #lipcombo #lips

This beginner-friendly tutorial starts with a brown lip liner or eyebrow pencil, which is used to line your lips, following their natural outline. Then, extend the shade along the outer corners on the top and bottom of the lips for a feathered effect — this helps to give a more blended look. After that, apply lipstick the way you normally would over your lips. If necessary, dab it outwards for a slightly softer, more blended effect.

Alternatively, you may go over your lips with a lip gloss, both tinted or clear options are fine, or a shiny lipstick that reflects light in all the right places. This amps up the illusion of juicy and full-looking lips.

other pro tips:

Note that you don’t necessarily have to go in with a brown lip liner — any shade slightly darker than your lipstick can give a similar effect.

If you’re having trouble picking the right shades to use, know to choose colours within the same colour family, with similar hues. Warm beige tones go nicely with a warm brown, for instance, while reds might pair better with a brick or maroon pencil.

For those with fair skin tones, try to choose a liner only two or three shades darker than your natural skin tone as well, so it doesn’t look too stark against your skin.

#2: Eyebrow Tint As Lip Liner

@sacheu

ur welcome

If you’re sick of your lip look smudging or fading after a couple of drinks during a night out, TikTok user Sacheu recommends a less conventional, transfer-proof lip liner hack: using eyebrow tint instead.

The entire process is quite similar to the above tutorials, where she applies the tint like a regular lip liner. The key difference, though, is that you have to leave the product on for about three minutes, before peeling the tint off and using a makeup wipe to remove some of the excess product. Then, go in with your regular nude lipstick.

Skeptics should really give the video a watch! The effect is way more subtle than expected, even if the brow tint looks harsh when first applied, though we think you’d need quite a deft hand to apply the liquid product. Sacheu says the tint lasts for two to three days.

All The Pixi x Hello Kitty Beauty Items Available In Singapore

Avid campers who seem to be permanently on the lookout for new Sephora launches would already know this, but in case you missed out, here’s some major news:  beloved beauty brand Pixi has collaborated with Hello Kitty to roll out a collection of limited-edition makeup and skincare items, which are now available in Singapore. Can someone say purr-fect?

Our Pixi favourites such as the Glow Tonic come all dressed up, with special attention paid to this product’s bottle cap in particular as it now features the silhouette of the cute cat and her iconic bow. Everything else we love about the formula, which contains 5% glycolic acid to renew skin and reveal a natural glow, is kept intact.

Other skincare items in the series include the A for Apples Sheet Mask, a new vitamin-infused sheet mask complete with skin-loving apple extract; AnyWhere Patches, a great on-the-go product of hydrogel patches that instantly hydrate and tone; and the Makeup Fixing Mist, with its blend of rose water and green tea that helps balance skin while keeping makeup fresh all day long.

For our makeup, we’re introduced to four new products created specially for this collection. You’ll probably be drawn to either of the palettes, starting with Eye Effects, which contains 9 multi-dimensional and harmonising hues that blend like a dream. “They are flattering and all you need to go from a natural day look to smoke-y perfection with a few sweeps,” says Pixi founder Petra Strand on the colours she picked out. A subtle silhouette of Hello Kitty is also embossed on the lower half of the palette.

The Chrome Glow Palette, on the other hand, is a multi-use face palette of mostly pink-hued and neutral powders that are much more versatile. These buttery powders in complementary shades impart a glowy finish, whereas Petra recommends them to use “on top of cheekbones, on lids, and on the corner of eyes and brows” as a creamy highlight.

There’s also the Hello Glow-y Powder, a silky-soft highlight powder in two shades, the Endless Silky Eye Pen in shade LondonFog, and the Lip Tone, a moisturising pH-reactive lip tint that goes on clear and adjusts to a customised lip shade when worn.
