We're Captivated by These Floral Makeup Looks at NYFW and LFW

Florals? For Spring?

via GIPHY

All sarcasm aside, though – these Spring floral makeup looks are actually pretty darn groundbreaking. At New York Fashion Week, Rosie Assoulin showcased a beautiful S/S ’17 collection, where makeup artist James Kaliardos created a subtle floral look that made the girls seem as though they’ve been rolling in a bed of flowers. He used MAC products, mainly the Studio Eye Gloss on the skin before dappling the flower petals on the outer corners of the eyes. It’s a look that’s easy to recreate if you want to look like you’ve been wandering around in an enchanted forest for hours.

Fresh off the heels of Rosie Assoulin’s collection, it seems that this floral look is on its way to becoming a new romantic trend. Preen’s S/S ’17 collection at London Fashion Week by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi presented a parade of garments inspired by witchcraft, with printed dresses and ruffled separates that were enhanced by a mesmerising approach to hair and makeup. Makeup artist Val Garland replaced the usual beauty items with dried cornflowers, daisies and forget-me-nots that were pressed onto the models’ cheeks, collarbones, foreheads, and even backs, with some of the models sporting a poetic gesture with delicate petals focused only on their lips.

Val Garland also called upon MAC Cosmetics to hold the flowers in place, namely using the Mixing Medium Shide and Duo Adhesive to get that “woodland fairy” aesthetic. Would you try these spellbinding makeup looks?

Adobe Uses Horrid Stock Photos In Limited Edition Clothing Line

Hideously clichéd, and ever-so-generic, cheesy stock photos are a tad bit difficult to take seriously, especially if you’re a creative professional. Which is why Adobe’s new limited edition, stock photo-inspired clothing line is all the more hilarious to look at.
The cheeky apparel collection has designs that range from “Mature business man with boxing gloves fighting co-worker” to “smiling seniors using laptop”. If that doesn’t draw a chuckle from you, there’s a t-shirt with “Laughing woman eating healthy vegetable salad” emblazoned right on its front. Amusing, indeed.
The clothing line is part of a direct marketing campaign coined up by Adobe to promote its premium collection of royalty-free images, with Swedish ad agency Abby Priest the brains behind the campaign.

Adobe Stock Photos Clothes

“Some stock images have earned their place in the history books. Classic motifs that have been overused and established as hilarious clichés, known, loved and/or hated by all,” said Abby Priest creative director Oskar Hellqvist in a Q&A on Adobe’s site.
“Turning them into a limited edition clothing line is our way to salute them and an attempt to create something disruptive and unconventional in the genre. The creative community already shares the knowledge and power/humour that is embedded in these images. Hopefully it’s something that they will enjoy and wear,” he continues.
Unfortunately, these clothes are not for sale to the public, and they’re only available for a select audience, so you probably won’t see them in your department store anytime soon. Still, if you’re up for stock image-lovin’, you can always sign up for a free trial at stock.adobe.com.

Shoe Of The Year: Mules

Mules are currently gaining momentum and climbing the charts of “What’s In” this year. These dainty slip ons may remind us a lot of the clogs we used to wear around the house when we were kids, but trust us when we say that there’s nothing dated about these classy slides. Whether in the form of a boot, loafer or sandal, mules are definitely taking over the runway and streets with their elevated sense of laid back sophistication. We know that you’ll be hard-pressed to own one of these yourself, so we’ve taken the liberty of rounding up some of our season’s favourites for you to set your eyes on.

Why the Marc Jacobs Show at NYFW Was so Controversial

Less than a month ago, we saw Free People take a huge hit for selling dreadlocks as a hair accessory. And now, it’s Marc Jacobs’ turn. The designer is coming under fire for his use of fake dreadlocks on predominantly white models during his Spring ’17 show at New York Fashion Week, including It-girls Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss and Gigi and Bella Hadid.

Soon after images of the show was posted on the designer’s Instagram, social media honed in on the topic, with droves of people believing it was a form of cultural appropriation. People questioned the necessity of hiring white models only to have dreadlocks added on instead of hiring more black models with actual dreadlocks. And that’s not all, folks. The woman who was paid to supply Marc Jacobs with those colourful, wool dreadlocks is also a white woman, kicking the controversy up a notch. Each dreadlock was handmade and hand-dyed by Jena Counts, an Florida-based artist who own an Etsy store, DreadlocksByJena.

But taking the controversy even further would be the various white-washed inspirations that Marc Jacobs and his team used to create the look. Marc Jacobs had previously stated that the pastel locks were inspired by transgender director Lana Wachowski, and hairstylist Guido Palau said they were going for a grungy feel à la Marilyn Manson. Some of the inspirations were a little more vague, like “club kids and ravers”. While all these inspirations are notable to an extent, it reveals that black culture was not a part of the list, which makes it an issue because of the historical roots of dreadlocks.
Incidents like these often incite a valid conversation about cultural appropriation, opening up a the issue of raiding the culture of the historically oppressed. Marc Jacobs is certainly not the first person to spark the controversy on cultural appropriation, and he certainly won’t be the last.

10 Alternative Smartphones To Own Besides Apple or Samsung

While Samsung’s recall of the Note 7 and Apple’s decision to remove the audio jack caused a media furore, there’s no denying that both companies are still the most popular in the current smartphone market. Their places in the mobile food chain probably won’t change anytime soon, but it’s still good to know that there are plenty of great alternatives – ranging from the super slick to the downright quirky – that would be shoe-ins for our choice of smartphones.
Here’s our favourite of the lot:
LG X Power

LG X Power

For those of you who are tired of suffering from your phone’s poor battery life, just check out the LG X Power. The Korean electronics company’s latest smartphone packs an industrious 4,100mAh battery capacity, which means that this baby can last up to 72 hours on a single charge. For a mid-range priced phone, that’s pretty freaking awesome. Besides a jacked-up battery life, users can look forward to a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera, and functions like face recognition technology for selfies and cool film filters.

ASUS ZenFone 3
ASUS ZenFone 3

Combining style and substance, the ASUS ZenFone 3 is a very good smartphone in the mid-range variety. The ZenFone 3 can boast of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor for quick performance, a crystal clear 16MP rear lens, as well as a subject-tracking TriTech auto-focus function that comprises of laser, phase detection, and continuous contrast-detection. The front of the phone is encased in Gorilla Glass – which makes it pretty much scratch- and impact- resistant.

Huawei P9
Huawei P9

Just like the iPhone 7 Plus, the Huawei P9 is geared with dual cameras that are capable of creating a bokeh, DSLR-style effect. The fact that it sports the Leica brand name doesn’t hurt either. In terms of other specs, the P9 is again pretty decent. There’s an octa-core Kirin 955 processor that is solidified by 3GB of RAM, meaning that the phone will handle gaming apps or Netflix pretty handily, while its battery capacity is also fairly strong at 3,000mAh.

Sony Xperia XZ
Sony Xperia XZ

Here’s another smartphone that is ideal for photography lovers. or just about anybody who wants a solid camera on their phone. Having launched earlier in August, Sony’s waterproof Xperia XZ has an impeccable 23MP rear cam that is capable of shooting 4K video. Even the 13MP front-facing selfie camera is no pushover. Measurements-wise, the phone sports a 5.2-inch screen, while it runs on a Qualcomm 820 chipset.

HTC 10
HTC 10

While most other smartphones are focused on having great cameras, the HTC 10 prides itself on delivering awesome audio quality. For instance, you can personalize your own audio profile on this phone, which will proceed to test and produce the optimal frequency range that is best suited for your ears. Not only that, playing music out loud on the phone’s built-in speakers isn’t too shabby either, and you can look forward to hearing a crisp and clear sound that will put most other phones to shame.

LG V20
LG V20

For a great all-round performer, one only needs to take a look at LG’s V20. This sleek device comes armed with some of the latest high-end tech specs that any smartphone geek would appreciate. For example, the V20 has a total of not one but three cameras on its frame – a 16MP standard lens and 8MP wide-angle lens on its back, and a 5MP cam on its front. This sweet device comes with Google’s latest Android 7.0 Nougat update, while its batteries are removable as well.

Oukitel K10000
Oukitel K10000

Okay, so the Oukitel K10000 isn’t exactly a new product in the mobile market, but for users who crave for long-lasting battery life, this phone is perfect. How so? Well, it comes fitted with a gargantuan 10,000mAh battery capacity, meaning that the phone can last between 10 to 15 days on a single charge! If that isn’t impressive, we’re not sure what is. The K10000’s other specs are quite ordinary, but battery life is certainly a winner here.

CAT S60
CAT S60

If tough, gladiator-type smartphones are your thing, then the CAT S60 will undoubtedly appeal to you. Its clunky body can withstand direct 6-foot drops onto solid concrete, plus it can survive up to 4.8 metres in water for approximately 60 minutes. Another badass feature comes in the form of a built-in, military-styled thermal imaging camera.

Google Pixel Phone
Though the Pixel Phone isn’t out yet, Google’s replacement for the Nexus 6P and 5X sure looks promising. Rumours circulating around the tech world have predicted that the phone will come in two sizes – a smaller model called Pixel and a larger model called Pixel XL, while it will also probably sport a 12MP rear-facing camera, as well as 8MP front-facing camera. While nothing is confirmed at this moment, it’s a given that Google will incorporate its latest operating system Nougat in the phone.

The Re-Kånkens Are Back In Three New Colours

We could then make a different statement with these hardwearing, always-trendy rucksacks and vocally show our support for safeguarding our Mother Earth. And now, Fjällräven presents us with the icing on the cake with three new uber cool colours of Re-Kånkens – Red, Ox Red, and Midnight Blue. Lighten Your Hair in Just a Few Minutes With This Blonde Wand

Nothing beats the feeling of walking out of a salon with a head full of fresh hues. However, the time it takes to get those highlights done is a whole other thing. So, when we first heard that there’s a hair lightening wand out there that promises to lighten hair in minutes without causing damage, it definitely perked our ears. The professional brand Pravana has created The Blonde Wand, a handheld device that’s engineered specifically for processing hair dye quickly to reduce the damage caused by standard colouring.

It may sound a little too good to be true, but it’s backed up by some serious science and proof. Here’s how it’s used: a colourist would paint creme lightener on sections of the hair and wrap each section with foil. Then, The Blonde Wand is used to pass over the foil a number of times, which would depend on how light you wanna go, and speed up the removal of pigment using heat. However, the wand’s plates won’t actually touch the foil, it’ll hover about an inch above and below it, using its ventilated blades on the sides to disperse the right amount of heat to expedite the lightening process without harming your strands.

Traditionally, bleaching your hair would require you to sacrifice time as well as the health of your hair. But The Blonde Wand would be one of those products that’ll really change the hair-colouring game. Bleached hair that’s easy to achieve and feels soft and healthy? This wand will literally give you the best of both worlds. But don’t get any DIY ideas just yet. The Blonde Wand will only be available to hair professionals, and for a good reason. Hair lightening is an art form that has to be monitored by experts in the industry to ensure the right amount of lightening is achieved.
It’s estimated that thousands of salons will have these wands to play with by this November, so let’s hope the tool makes it way across international waters to save the day.

OtterBox Releases Sturdy New Cases For the iPhone 7

OtterBox iPhone Case

Having trouble keeping your ever-so-fragile iPhone safe from knocks, bumps, scrapes and cracks? Well, that’s something that most of us Apple users have experienced from time to time, and it’s a battle that we can’t seem to win. Thankfully, OtterBox has a new range of cases for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus that promises to do the trick.
“Apple continues to drive the evolution of smartphone technology in ways that are shaping the human experience,” said OtterBox CEO Jim Parke. “OtterBox has been a part of the story since the very beginning, keeping that connection protected so that we can all capture, share and connect with the world at large.”
These rock-solid receptacles provide combat-ready protection endorsed by the Certified Drop+ Protection program, which includes rigorous trials such as abrasion tests; drop tests; thermal shock tests; and high temperature and humidity tests. So you know these beauties are seriously legit.
Functionality isn’t just OtterBox’s strong suit though. Their stylish Symmetry Series range packs choices of funky graphics, cool colours, as well as a clear case option. All products in this line also feature a bevel-edge component around the screen that protects your phone from smashing against screen-faced falls.
Leather lovers should make a beeline for the Strada Series Folio, which conveniently shields your HD Retina display when closed, but if you want something tougher, check out the Commuter Series. Its dual-layer design is extremely durable, plus, there’s also a slipcover that acts as a defence against dust and grime.
If that still isn’t tough enough for you, there’s always the robust Defender Series – OtterBox’s ultra secret weapon for the ultimate phone protection. It has a three-layer casing, built-in screen protector, an inner shell cradle, as well an outer slipcover that makes this phone case one true badass. It might not generate indestructible jokes and gags like the meme-able Nokia. But as far as modern phone casings go, it’s pretty much the damn Terminator.
Need a resilient touchscreen glass to go along with these gritty phone cases? OtterBox has the fortified, anti-shatter Alpha Glass to go for. Because hey, there’s no harm in completing the full set right?
The Defender Series, Commuter Series, Symmetry Series for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are available for retail. The Strada Series Folio and Alpha Glass for iPhone 7 will be released soon. For more information, visit otterbox.asia.

Ditch Your Beautyblender For This Precious Diamond Sponge

Anyone who’s mildly obsessed with makeup is most likely obsessed about the Beautyblender, too. You’re guaranteed to hear that these revolutionary makeup sponges are a mainstay in most beauty lineups. It’s all in its simplicity – dampen the sponge, pick up some foundation with it, and experience an incredibly even amount of blending that brushes fail to achieve. While we’re familiar with the ubiquitous hot pink beauty tool, there’s also a ton of new innovations cropping up in the beauty department. And there’s one in particular that we’ve fallen in love with at first sight.

When you tell #bae you deserve the biggest diamond ever. #MeetTheMiracles

A video posted by Real Techniques (@realtechniques) on

If you’re wondering what a marbled diamond would look like, meet the Real Techniques’ Miracle Diamond Sponge. The sponge is quite literally faceted like a huge ass diamond, featuring 13 angles to fulfil all of your blending and buffing needs. Its unique design allows you to apply your foundation and concealer on different areas of your face using its multi-facets. The pointed tip can be used to cover up tiny imperfections and get into crevices, while the larger, flat sides will go across larger surfaces such as your cheeks and forehead seamlessly. The smaller flat sides are great for precision contouring around your eyes, mouth, and brow bone, and its top works great to buff and blend for that flawless finish.

Diamonds really are a girl’s best friend. 😍 #MeetTheMiracles
