The New Netflix Releases To Binge-Watch This Weekend

We’ve been spending a whole lot of time in a Netflix hole recently, what with binge watching the entire first season of Stranger Things, and now, the second season of Narcos. So what if we haven’t left the house a few weekends in a row now? This month, a whole bunch of new selections have been added to the Netflix library, ranging from new episodes of the TV shows you should be up to date with, and classic films worth a second (or third, fourth, fifth) watch. Cancel all those weekend plans.

Narcos Season 2

We pick up where we last left off with the “King Of Cocaine”, right outside the La Catedral when Pablo Escobar finds himself in a very vulnerable position indeed. Season 2 spans 10 episodes and if you’re keeping track of time, there are just 17 months to go before Escobar meets his maker – but fret not, Narcos just got renewed for a third and fourth season, so it seems like the show will still go on next year, for our binge-watching pleasure.

Jane The Virgin Season 2

For the uninitiated, the storyline of this show centres around Jane who’s, yes, a virgin, finding herself accidentally artificially inseminated after an ill-fated trip to a careless gynaecologist. While we await Season 3 to premiere next month, catch up on all 22 episodes of Season 2 in the meantime, just made available on Netflix. One good reason: Britney Spears’ guest appearance in episode 5.

Chef’s Table: France

This is food porn, people. From the creator of Jiro Dreams Of Sushi, each episode of this documentary series focuses on one critically-acclaimed chef, telling their stories, and with plenty of drool-inducing food shots along the way, of course. This latest third season features four famous French chefs and their famous restaurants, plus some of the prettiest dishes we’ve ever laid our eyes on. Bon appetit.

The Breakfast Club

A brain. A beauty. A jock. A rebel. A recluse. Five high schoolers that fit different stereotypes find themselves having to spend a Saturday in detention; cue plenty of soul-baring and self-reflection along the way, changing them forever by the end of the day. We’ve rewatched this John Hughes classic from 1985 several times, but it’s a coming of age film that never gets old. And now it’s streaming on Netflix, it warrants another rewatch.

Back To The Future

Another 1985 film that never gets old. Get back in the ol’ DeLorean with Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown to do some time travelling, though we’re not so sure the phrase “back to the future” is still applicable in 2016, given that in the movie they time travelled to 2015 – which is now in the past. At least somebody made those self-lacing sneakers a reality this year.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

Some days, you just want to turn off your brain and have a good, mindless laugh. This Steve Carrell classic is good for exactly that, as he plays a nerdy 40-year-old man who finds himself being pressurised to do the deed – made extra complicated when he meets a nice, attractive single mother. Also, that infamous chest waxing scene is always worth the laughs.

This May Be The Strangest Fashion Show Yet

And with all explicitness of bold rachetry and sexual innuendos, Hood By Air presents to us its SS17 collection. For a start, the show was in collaboration with Pornhub – so you already know something weird’s about to go down. And as with every season, the cult streetwear label summoned forth its dirty eccentricity in full force with a bizarre showcase of evidently defiant looks which can be thought of as a major eye roll to the conventional fashion shows of New York Fashion Week. We’re seeing blue plastic raincoat-esque track suits (seriously guys, what is up with trash couture?), monochromatic rugby polos with the words “Wench”, “Never trust a church girl” and “Hustler”, and a whole lot of Vaseline covered faces. As if our eyebrows aren’t raised to the heavens yet, Hood By Air decided to throw in a couple of western-styled crocodile boots which go both ways. We have no idea what made the idea of having four shoes on one person sartorially okay, but we’ll humbly seal our lips and just take this all in because – fashion. We did a double take (pun intended) with those ridiculously humorous shoes, but we soon got used to all the shenanigans that went down during the show. The black PVC and big, bold graphic words are trademark Hood By Air, reeking of a non-nonsense type attitude which has got the pop culture world stirring in recent years. And we’re extremely big fans of the refined edge added to the collection with a white oxford-shirt-turned-halter-neck-top, regarding it as a fresh twist that beats any of those youtube tutorials on how to transform your boyfriend’s dress shirt into a dress or something. It’s a show with real shock value; but that’s what Hood By Air does best, and we appreciate its quirks (except for the Vaseline, that was gross).

This Funky Vintage Breakfast Station is Pure Genius

3-in-1 Breakfast Station

Let’s be honest here. The 50s wasn’t exactly the greatest period of time in history. There was the Cold War, racial discrimination was rife, and society was prudish when it came to sexual expression. But hey, not everything was bad. At least they knew how to make great breakfasts!
Now, your breakfast will never be boring again with Nostalgia Electrics’ 50s Style 3-in-1 Breakfast Station. This magical, semi-vintage device is quite possibly the most amazing culinary invention of the 21st century, because it allows you to whip up a full-sized breakfast at one go! For instance, you can brew an entire pot of coffee, griddle eggs, toast bread, as well as cook bacon at the same time. Now if that isn’t awesome, we’re not sure what is.

Not good with timings? Not to worry. The 3-in-1 Breakfast Station comes complete with an auto shut-off function, meaning that you probably won’t muck up the most important meal of the day no matter how hard you try. And if you’re not too big on cleaning up after you eat, at least the removable oven tray and non-stick griddle makes your job a little bit easier.

The Significance of These Acid Attack Survivors Walking the Runway

After decades of fashion shows, we’ve mostly seen presentations filled with clothes that are aesthetically arrresting. However, not many are driven by an important social message, and even fewer have a powerful spokesperson walking down the runway. Archana Kochnar’s show at New York Fashion Week ticked all the boxes when she sent Reshma Qureshi out as her first model.

You may remember Reshma Qureshi from the impactful beauty tutorial that aimed to draw attention to the acid sales, revealing just how easy it is to obtain acid with the chilling line, “You’ll find lipstick easily in the market… just like concentrated acid.” When Reshma was 17, she was doused in acid by her sister’s estranged husband in Northern India. Thanks to a crowdfunding effort, she was able to receive corrective cosmetic surgery, and she is currently dedicating her voice to raising awareness about this horrific practice.
Now, at the age of 19, she’s the face of the #EndAcidSale movement of the non-governmental organisation Make Love Not Scars, which is based in New Delhi. She made her way to the US where she took on the runway, determined to show her quiet defiance as an acid attack survivor and to send a powerful message of courage and empowerment, promoting Make Love Not Scars’ #TakeBeautyBack campaign. She told Agence France-Presse (AFP), “I want to tell the world – do not see us in weak light and see that even we can go out and do things.”
In a society where a woman’s worth is still bound to her physical appearance, the disfigurement, pain, and psychological trauma that acid attacks cause can give women like Resha a lifetime of struggles. Unfortunately, Resha is only one among hundreds of Indian women to suffer from this atrocious crime every year. In 2014, 309 cases of acid attacks were reported in India. Despite regulations by the state government, the open sale of acid continues to grow. Across areas of India and in some South Asian communities, acid attacks have become a commonplace. Similar to honour killings, women are often attacked by the people they know, such as those who believe they have “dishonoured” the family.

Another acid attack survivor who goes by the single name, Laxmi, is now one of India’s most prominent campaigners against acid attacks. She is in London to take part in a fashion show at the Hilton Waldorf hotel in an effort to raise awareness about violence against women. Organised by the British Asian Trust and women’s rights charity GMSP, the event also features a British survivor Adele Bellis, whose acid attack was orchestrated by her former partner in 2014.

There is so much more that needs to be done to bring attention to authorities and sensitise our society to its savagery. The very first step is to empower the survivors to make sure that the world recognises them for more than just their brutal experiences, and with the inclusion of acid attacks survivors walking international runways, it’s a step in the right direction. Women and girls should be entitled to live free, fulfilled lives, safe from the threats of violence and corrupted morality brought about by patriarchal dictation. By giving these survivors a platform, they will be able to push against the norms of beauty, to reclaim their lives and stories.

Read About The Revolutionary Opening Ceremony SS17 Show

Goodbye, duplicates of the same old pretty-faced, size 0 model. Opening Ceremony’s here to drive home a point; unconventional beauty outruns the former any day. We’re considering the upcoming USA presidential elections, and it deems appropriate for a fashion-show-turned-political-forum like Opening Ceremony’s SS17 show to be held during New York Fashion Week. They may have raised a few eyebrows threading on political topics like they did, but they most certainly made everything easier to swallow with a light-hearted and comedic approach. In a stand-up comedy commentary which mimics the structure of a beauty pageant, we see our favourite role models step forward to speak about socially important issues such as gender equality in parenting, feminism, and police brutality. Rashida Jones and Aubrey Plaza were amongst the many established women who may have knocked political insightfulness into the heads of the audience who were merely expecting to mindlessly ogle at a parade of clothing. It was bold for the atypical runway to ditch their usual army of supermodels, but we’re nonetheless impressed by the empowerment of women of all shapes, background, and colour in this revolutionary display of intellectual enlightenment. Now here’s Opening Ceremony addressing the things that really matter through the wondrous medium that is fashion.

As for the capsule, the clothes oozed of preppy springtime innocence. Sporty striped knits and collared shift dresses ruled them all in this collection, showing all us Clueless fashionista wanna-bes to really rethink our lame plaid skirts. To say the least, the collection was politically appropriate in all areas; modest, intelligent and organised.

We Can Now Add A Personalised Novel Punch To Our Longchamp Bags

We remember when Longchamp first allowed us to go wild with our creativity in creating our very own customised Le Pliage Nylon. Boy did we go crazy with the selection of silhouette, colours and handles. Finally we had a bag which very much literally had our signature on it, and ever since then we’ve gotten onto the hype of personalising as much of our goodies as possible. And once again, Longchamp is bringing back the Le Pliage Nylon Personalized, and adding a new exciting twist – we can now have a choice of 8 new fun and creative emoji embroideries which we can put on our Longchamp bags.

longchamp-1

Screen Shot 2016-09-05 at 1.56.11 PM
The embroideries, which are available in 15 thread colours, are sure to turn your Longchamp bag into a unique emulation of class and zestfulness. We’re also able to emboss our initials on the flap with 8 letters instead of the initial character limit of 4, and given the choice of adding a silver coating to our initials for that extra touch of luxe you know we need. We’ll have a hard time playing around with this much creative freedom; having to choose between 4 bag sizes, 2 strap lengths and 15 canvas colours. That’s right, we won’t stop until almost all our luxury items have our names on them; very much like how Gigi Hadid does it.
Le Pliage Nylon Personalized, POA. Available from 1st October to 21st October at Longchamp Takashimaya.

What Models Are Drinking Backstage at NYFW to Get Better Skin

Behind the curtains at New York Fashion Week, one would find models, frenzied stylists and makeup artists going through hours of preparation for a few fleeting moments on the catwalk. But amidst all the chaos backstage, hidden in a safe corner, lies the food. You would think there’d be a wide selection of healthy options to choose from, because after all, they’re models who need to look after their bodies. However, the offerings are actually pretty counterintuitive to maintaining their slim physiques. Cheese, crackers, cookies, sandwiches, processed granola bars and even cans of soda are amongst the can be found on the craft services table.

close_up_of_teas-2

Theresa Krier, who’s worked backstage for several seasons, had been observing how models avoid drinking anything before their shows because of the limited options. As an avid tea drinker, she sought to address this issue by creating her own line of chic organic and herbal teas called Big T NYC. Partnering with designers every season, the brand was launched backstage at Fashion Week, aiming to keep models cool, calm and collected before the show. It’s gained traction ever since, and once it was made available to the public, it garnered a fanbase which includes actresses such as Holland Roden and Nikki Bella, and models like Alexandra Richards and Leomie Anderson.
Not only are Theresa’s teas tasty, they also provide health benefits. Her bestselling organic green tea features Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), which is a powerful catechin and antioxidant that has been proven to raise the body’s metabolic rate to burn fat. Another one of her tea blends contain goji berries, elderberries, currants and rose petals – a cocktail that’s packed with antioxidants to shield the skin from free radicals, keeping it healthy and glowing.
While it’s cool to get on board the detox tea train, you don’t have to shell out extra money for these exclusive blends. All you need to do is to keep your eyes peeled for key ingredients that are organic the next time you make a grocery shopping trip. Seeing how flawless these models’ complexions are, brewing a cup of tea for ourselves everyday doesn’t seem too much of a hassle.

Get To Know The Brand That Is The Nude Makeup Authority

Bobbi Brown hardly needs any introduction, because it’s just one of those makeup brands that’s a department store stalwart, one that we know we can always count on for quality cosmetics. Some of which have joined the ranks of evergreen cult products, such as the Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, and those Shimmer Brick Compact highlighters.

long-wear-gel-liner   shimmer-brick

These famous products have rather legendary backstories, too. As Brown herself recounts, “I was on my way to a photoshoot several years ago and I realised that I had forgotten to bring eyeliner with me. So I took my waterproof mascara and used a Q-tip to line my eyes. Not only did it give me perfect definition, it was still in place the next day. That inspired me to create Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, which is highly pigmented, long-wearing and water-resistant.”
And as for the Shimmer Brick, it was borne out of trial and error too: “One year at Fashion Week, a designer asked me to give all the models a lit-from-within glow. I took a shimmery eyeshadow and dusted it on the models’ cheeks and that’s how the concept for Shimmer Brick was born,” Brown says.
You might also know Bobbi Brown for its nudes; i.e. all the flesh-toned eye, face and lip colours that help nail that your-skin-but-better look. It’s especially when they’re presented in the form of those heart-stopping palettes that the brand launches every season that we covet these shades the most – who cares if we already have a substantial collection of highly similar variations? Each time, Bobbi Brown makes its offerings impossible to resist anyway.

nude-library
The 25th Anniversary Nude Library – unfortunately not for sale, but that’s all the nude shades any girl will ever need, that’s for sure.

Brown’s fascination with nudes comes from her longstanding and deep-seated appreciation for natural beauty. “From my early days as a freelancer I used makeup to enhance what was real – I wanted skin to look like skin, lips to look like lips and cheeks to look like they were naturally flushed,” she explains. “One of my biggest frustrations as a makeup artist in the 90s was that there weren’t any products that allowed me to achieve this natural look.”
She saw a void in the beauty market for natural-looking makeup colours, and that’s how her first ever lipstick line was born 25 years ago, in 1991 at New York City’s Bergdorf Goodman department store. And in this last quarter of a century, her brand has exploded into a full range of makeup, skincare, and professional-level tools and accessories. The brand ethos hasn’t changed all this time: products launched are never about following fleeting trends, but made to look timeless, suited for all skin tones, and versatile enough to create as natural or dramatic a look that the wearer wants.
“I’ve always preferred a natural or nude makeup look – it’s flattering and timeless,” Brown states. “However, natural makeup doesn’t mean being completely bare-faced. The secret is to choose shades that are similar in tone to your complexion – for example, eyeshadows that mimic the natural colouring of your eyelids and lipsticks that look like your lips. If a nude shade looks ashy, it’s too light for you. If it looks muddy, the shade is too dark.”
This mindset is evident in the latest batch of Bobbi Brown launches, eye, lip and face products that all celebrate natural flesh tones.

Twenty five years on, Brown is still getting real beauty right. No wonder she’s hailed as the Queen of Nudes.

Put A Ring On It With These Donut Wedding Walls

Weddings are getting more creative by the day. There have been Harry Potter themed weddings; Hunger Games inspired nuptials; and yes, there was even a Walking Dead matrimonial ceremony before (that’s freaking hardcore by the way). But in terms of wedding desserts, in particular wedding cakes, the choices have been rather lacklustre…till now.
In what is quite possibly the most Instagram-worthy wedding food fad of 2016, people have been ditching the classic, rounded white cakes for colourful donuts plastered on towering walls. It’s the perfect way to add some spark to your special’s day décor if you ask us. Because c’mon, what better way to get the romance going than to flaunt ring-shaped, sugary treats?
That’s not the only benefit though. These delightful donut walls would certainly add more variety to your overall food offerings as another dining option. Plus, they could totally replace the photo booth wall. It’s a win-win for everybody. Just make sure that your wedding area is properly sanitized in order to avoid any potential ant attacks!
Here are some pretty looking donut walls that caught our attention on Instagram:

This Guy Makes 3D Art in People’s Homes For A Living

Working life can be either extremely mundane or gloriously satisfying. For many people, the latter is all they desire. But for Petrescu Silviu, it’s a reality that he cannot be more grateful for.

Installation art ”Life…”

A photo posted by Petrescu Silviu 3D Art (@petrescusilviu.3d.art) on

The artist recently documented his work on popular website Bored Panda, explaining his love for art, and showcasing a series of impressive 3D murals in people’s homes. Most of his work comes in the form of mythical-looking trees that jut out from walls, but he’s not limited in his creativity. He also ‘brings’ animals to life, or just creates really cool, otherworldly illusions.

But what inspired him to do all this? Well, he was perturbed by the notion that his subject matter was trapped within a canvas, hence he had the idea of ‘freeing’ his ideas, and letting them ‘escape’ into the real world. As to why most of his work revolves around twisting tree branches, Silviu only wants to remind people that they have the power to rebuild themselves no matter how tough or unpredictable life gets.
Check out more of his work below:

Massimo Dutti’s flagship store at Takashimaya Shopping Centre has finally opened its doors to public after a renovation which will tie in the brand’s  global store concept with the finesse and ambience of the space. The 350square metre establishment holds both collections for men and women, and is given a fresh upbeat sophisticated twist to reflect the rich contemporary timelessness behind the firm’s signature. What’s ideal about the environment is it’s elegant composure, and we’re taken away with the classic details which was presented in such a polished manner, that the new Autumn Winter collection shone with distinguished class.

Desigual's Snapchat Filter Makeup Will Inspire Your Next Halloween Look

When we think of labels that identify with our millennial culture, we wouldn’t necessarily think of Desigual. The brand from Barcelona never adheres to trends, producing colourful clothes in prints and patchworks that are quirky, yet functional. However, for their runway show at New York Fashion Week last Thursday, they decided to up their game by infusing a little bit of fun into their designs. A good amount of Snapchat filter-inspired makeup looks came straight out of phone screens and on the faces of Desigual’s models.

Backstage at the Desigual S/S ’17 show, a team of makeup artists from MAC Cosmetics went to town on 6 lucky models, transforming them into digital masks such as the iconic Snapchat puppy, that bumblebee with the squeaky voice, the crowned princess, and more. It may seem like just a way to inject some humour onto the runway, but it could also be a commentary on how our culture’s so obsessed with selfies. The clothing in the collection was actually inspired by “the global traveller,” featuring their statement bright-coloured ensembles in comfortable cuts that are tailored closely to the body, accentuating natural curves. The collection featured 48 looks in total, ranging from military-inspired bomber jackets to embroidered denim.
You won’t be seeing this oh-so millennial makeup featured as a practical beauty trend for Spring ’17, but this will undoubtedly spark some ideas for Halloween. It seems that all you need is a good amount of bronzer and a relatively steady hand to turn yourself into a deer! Now, have a look at these peculiar makeup looks and start practising.

Stick Your Phone on Almost Any Surface With This Anti-Gravity Phone Case

Gone are the days when phone cases were just meant to hold your phones. Now, the future has arrived with the invention of the MEGAVERSE Anti-Gravity Case – a modular phone case that can stick itself on almost any surface! That includes windows, mirrors, kitchen cabinets and whiteboards.
It might seem a little gimmicky at first, but just think of the possibilities here. You’ll now be able to take hands-free selfies, read recipes while you cook, or simply watch YouTube while taking a dump. Now how’s that for convenience?

In the words of Mega Tiny Corporation – the geniuses who came up with the MEGAVERSE – this case sucks, literally. The casing makes use of nano-suction material for its spider-man capabilities, and all you’ve got to do to make your phone defy gravity is press it on a smooth and flat surface, and there you go. Your phone would have officially broken Newton’s Law.
But that’s not all. This slick casing isn’t just gravity defying. It’s multi-functional too. For instance, there are swappable plates that let you customise its exterior, giving you the options of adding a leather wallet, shatterproof mirror or bottle opener to the casing’s back. The bottle opener would come in especially handy at parties!
Unfortunately, the MEGAVERSE is built solely for iPhones, but luckily, other phone users can get the Anti-Gravity SPACE – which basically makes use of two nano-suction pads to stick your phone on walls.
Shipping for the MEGAVERSE begins in mid September. Check out their Indiegogo funding page at www.indiegogo.com.

The Fashion Famous Dog Who Inspired An Entire AW16 Collection

Meet Hector Browne. The wire-head daxie who took the fashion world by storm when he emerged immortalised in bags and coats from Thom Browne’s 2016 women’s Pre Fall and men’s Autumn/Winter collections. Thom’s very own little sausage dog has grown to become such an endearing public figure since then, especially amongst fashion aficionados. The collection was a feast for the senses, especially for all of us die hard dog lovers. Petit Dachshund embroideries were seen on hats, ties, embroidery on jackets, and (omg) buttons!

The amazing Hector bag, crafted of either fine pebbled leather or beaver fur, is life-sized and complete with a bone-shaped dog ID tag, collar, floppy ears, and pointed tail to model after Hector himself. Whoever said that “a dog is not an accessory” will surely let it pass this time round, considering Hector’s irresistible charm – which emanates even in the form of a purse.
