Why The Yeezy Season 4 Show Was Such A Hot Mess

Kanye fully embraced New York City’s sweltering heat for his Yeezy Season 4 Showcase. Well, of course he did – he was’t the one having to don those see-through plastic thigh highs and shearling/leather jackets which were evidently a recipe for heat-fried brains and dizzy spells. The “multi-racial” models Kanye explicitly called out for casting braved 30-degree celcius heat in subversive Yeezy apparel – bodysuits, oversized outerwear and military-style parkas. Muted hues in cool tones, all walked by models with fair to dark skin tones to match, made an appearance to combat the warmth of the mid-day sun. A couple of models reportedly fainted halfway through the show, which led to the passing out of water bottles to the fallen models. The post-apocalyptic army of models looked cool and sultry in their get-ups, but that was before one model’s heel broke while she walked the runway. Bad day huh? Hold on, it gets worst. Model Amina Blue sure must have had it tough that day, as she outright swore “f*ck the culture” and kicked off her heels as she continued walking nonchalantly. Perhaps it showed a certain non-conformist attitude, and that’s what Yeezy’s all about right? We’re surely hoping that she got away with it.

Here’s All You Need To Know About Apple’s New iPhones

Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

In a keynote address in San Francisco earlier this morning, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, graced the stage to announce the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
The next gen smartphones will combine a raft of new features, which include waterproof capabilities and a pressure-sensitive home button. However, the biggest change of all will be the removal of the ubiquitous headphone jack. What will replace the jack instead is Apple’s Lightning Port.
The new iPhone will come with lightning connector headphones and a lightning-to-analogue adapter. There’s also the option of purchasing wireless AirPods, which has a battery life of five hours and will set you back a hefty $238.
Schiller said: “Apple EarPods are the most popular headphones in the world. Now we’re moving them to Lightning. Why? Because it provides digital audio, power, and many other advantages that are simply not possible over an analogue connection.”
“The analogue headphone jack has been with us for a very long time. But the reason to move on is courage. The courage to move on and do something new that betters all of us,” he added.
Whether that courage will immediately translate into success remains to be seen. But here are some other reasons why you should be excited about the iPhone 7.
First off, the waterproof feature is something that hardcore Apple fans have been clamoring for years. It’s not something new in the ever-evolving smartphone market, but at least you can now say goodbye to your phone getting screwed by pesky spills and splashes.
Performance and battery life for the iPhone 7 series have also been seriously upgraded, with a quad-core Apple A10 fusion chip that makes it twice as fast as the iPhone 6. Apple also estimates that the iPhone 7 will have two hours more battery life than the iPhone 6S.
There’s now optical image stabilisation for the iPhone 7, while a wider f/1.8 aperture will allow you to get in more light in your shots. An anti-flicker feature will help the camera’s shutter deal with artificial light, while there’s a total of four LEDs, so you can look forward to 50 per cent more light in dark areas.
What’s really cool though is that the iPhone 7 plus has an additional 56mm telephoto lens that allows you to maximise your digital zoom up to 10 times. An update will also enable both lenses to create a bokeh effect, something similar to like how a DSLR would.
Schiller said: “On a DSLR you can move lens elements to zoom with a large lens. But on a phone you can’t do that. So we’re using two cameras and two lenses to do the same. The quality of the zoom, even with software zoom, is so much better than before we decided to push it up to 10x.”
Unfortunately, this function is only available on the iPhone 7 plus, so Apple users will have to cough up the extra cash if they want to enjoy it.
Another significant change (besides the removal of the headphone jacks), is the departure of the 16GB model. The iPhone 7 starts at the double the storage space of its predecessors with 32GB, with other models offering 128GB and 256GB.
The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be available in silver, gold, rose gold, and black, while the jet black model is offered exclusively for the 128GB and 256GB models.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are available for preorder at $1048 and $1248 respectively this Friday (9 September), and you will receive it on 16 September. Visit Apple’s official website at www.apple.com/sg.

This Coffee is So Strong That It Comes with a Health Warning

Plenty of us love knocking back a good ol’ cuppa joe every once in awhile. It’s even better if the coffee we’re guzzling down is strong. But what happens when the caffeine level is so insanely high that it might just kill you (literally).
Well, nobody has been crazy enough to develop a beverage like that yet. But an Adelaide barista comes pretty close; at least in terms of coming up with something that’s dangerous enough to warrant a health warning from officials.
Introducing the Ass Kicker – an iced coffee that contains half the lethal dosage of caffeine, and a drink that could potentially keep you awake for 18 hours.
Steve Benington, owner and barista of Viscous Coffee in Christies Beach, Australia, is the brains behind this super strong brew, and he says that the drink was developed for an emergency room nurse who had trouble staying awake on night shifts. Apparently, she consumed the drink over two days, but stayed awake for three.
The Ass Kicker is made from a medley of robust coffee ingredients. There’s a quad shot of espresso, four 48-hour cold drip ice cubes, and 120 millilitres of extra-aged cold brew. The drink is finally completed with an additional four 48-hour cold brew ice cubes.
“Each cold drip ice cube is approximately equivalent of a bit more than two shots of espresso in caffeine,” Benington told The Advertiser.
So you can just imagine how crazily intense this drink is. If you look at the stats, a single espresso shot contains 60mg of caffeine, while the Ass Kicker is made up of five grams. That means the caffeine levels in this drink is a whopping 80 times stronger than a single shot of espresso!
To his credit, Benington did seek the advice of medical professionals at the Marion Domain Medical Centre in Oaklands Park. However, they told him that people with heart or blood pressure issues should stay far away from the beverage. Professional dietitian’s are also far from convinced about its safety.
“There have been a number of documented cases of hospital admissions and also death with caffeine intakes less than half of what is contained in this beverage,” dietitian Tanya Lewis told The Advertiser.
If that doesn’t bother you though, the Ass Kicker will cost you $16 Australian bucks. That’s pretty worth it if you consider the fact that you probably don’t have to drink coffee for the rest of the week!

Are You Brave Enough To Wear These Sneakers Out

When Christopher Kane sent his Autumn/Winter 2016 collection down the runway, we knew we were in for an artistically credible take on “trash couture”. The muse behind the collection came from hoarders; compulsive collectors (which may explain the waterproof headscarves – that resembled plastic bags – the models were wearing). And so, we took it all in with an open mind – the sheepskins, furs, plastics, leather, silk, semi-precious trinkets, jewel brooches, badges, talismans, ostrich feathers and crochet flowers. EVERYTHING. And then it caught our eye. Picture this: you’re wearing army green socks, bandaged by a strip of elastic. And you’ve decided to top it off by sticking pink and green ostrich feathers into your socks such that it sprouts out like a bouquet. That’s right; those were the sneakers which made its grand debut on the runway halfway through the show. If you’re cringing at the thought of it, you can now proceed to cringe further at its price; $641.

Christopher Kane Feather-Embellished Neoprene Sneakers, $641.

This is it guys, this right here may mark the downfall of the sneaker hype – with the emergence of Dreamworks Troll-looking sneakers which passes off as high-fashion athleisure kicks. And we’re not even finished; Fendi seemed to follow in Christopher Kane’s bold and novel footsteps to create the “Karlito” sneakers – sneakers designed to look like the creative director Karl Lagerfeld himself. The “Karlito” sneakers may appear to be a delightful colourblocking of metallic and emerald suede and patent-leather (they could have just stopped there, seriously), but that’s before they decided to throw on Lagerfeld’s signature black shaded in the form of a strap and festoon locks of bright pink shearling hair on the tongue.

We have no idea where the fashion world is taking us with this bizarre feat, but we do know that we may be officially done with sneakers for now.

Your Victoria's Secret Perfume Could Double as Mosquito Repellent

With 17 new cases of locally transmitted Zika confirmed yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in Singapore to a whopping 275, many are seeking protection from the Aedes mosquitoes by sweeping repellents off the shelves. Plenty of mosquito repellents on the market contain chemicals such as DEET (diethyltoluamide), or strong-scented oil such as citronella. If you detest the smell of these current repellents, then you may want to consider this surprising substitute.

Hansen_Rodriguez_2

Led by a team of researchers from New Mexico State University (NMSU), a recent study published in the Journal of Insect Science revealed that the Bombshell perfume by Victoria’s Secret made a human test subject unattractive to Aedes mosquitoes for about two hours after its application. In the study, mosquitoes were placed in tubes that were filled with the scents of human volunteers, as well as the scents of the repellents. Unsurprisingly, repellents formulated with DEET were proven to be especially effective, whereas products containing alternative ingredients such as citronella or geraniol, were kind of a hit-or-miss in terms of their effectiveness.
We’re familiar with the fact that mosquitoes are attracted to sweet, fruity scents, which is why the results of their findings may come as a surprise. However, it’s important to note that the researchers used a fairly high concentration of the perfume in the experiment, so it’s definitely more than just a couple of regular spritzes. So, before you rush off to get yourself a bottle of Bombshell, bear in mind that a light mist of the fragrance may not yield the same masking results as the high dose applied onto the volunteer’s hand during the study. And it goes without saying but, no – dousing yourself in eau de parfum is not a good idea.
Until scientists have figured out a way to build an invisible shield against mozzies, we’ll just have to make do with every other form of insect repellent.

Fujifilm’s New Instax Mini Film Lets You Take Gorgeous Monochrome Pictures

Instant photo lovers have been spoiled silly these past few weeks with the release of cameras like the Lomo’Instant Milano and Lomo’Instant Automat. However, Fujifilm has largely kept quiet…until now. The Japanese electronics company has recently unveiled their new Instax Mini Film Monochrome series, in a move that’ll undoubtedly please black-and-white photography enthusiasts.

FujiFilm Instax Mini Monochrome

“The ‘Instax Mini Film Monochrome’ responds to the increasingly sophisticated demands of users,” Fujifilm said, “enabling them to expand the artistic potential of their photographic expression and adding a further dimension of fun to using Instax cameras and films.”
The monochrome instax series will be used for Fujifilm’s instax instant cameras, as well as their Share printer – a portable device that allows you to print pictures on the go. There has been no word yet as to how much the monochrome film will cost, but it’s understood that it’ll be sold in cartridges of 10 sheets each. For now though, it’s worthwhile planning your shots till the film is released later this October.

See The Opulent Looks From Dolce & Gabbana's 2016 Fall Alta Moda Collection

We’re true aficionados of Dolce & Gabbana’s previous works. What’s not to love about the ornate flair the house manages to pull off so elaborately season after season? We’ve got to say, D&G really knows how to knock at our inner desire of playing the part of a princess with its richly embroidered gowns. This season, we witnessed the enthronement of Italian actress Sophia Loren as D&G paid homage to Italy’s greatest movie divas and the picturesque city of Naples. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana literally put Sophia Loren on a central, velvet throne during the show, making it as evident as possible that the raucous street festival of a fashion show was solely dedicated to the dazzling guest of honour herself.
“It is inspired by Sophia, by Naples, and tradition. She grew up not far from here, and many of her movies were set here. There’s one she was in called Miseria e Nobiltà,” he continued. “Naples is still like this today, very poor on one hand, but with this incredible Baroque architecture, the Spanish influence on the other. There are all these specialist craftspeople in the little shops here, family businesses, each making something differently. This is what Stefano and I relate to. It is authentic.” Dolce masterfully concluded the thought behind the collection.

The collection, as usual, explored many meaningful Italian themes such as football, religion and art. The vibrancy of culture within the lively city of Naples was beautifully translated onto a cloak through the medium of a print which resembled oil-paintings of the city’s architecture. The intricate and heavily embellished headpieces rose (quite literally) above the occasion and perched atop the models’ heads like a tower of gems and roses. The noble aristocrats of times past would have been proud of these elaborate “crowns” (or bishop’s mitres). We even saw a richly embroidered and painted floral swimsuit, with a satin sash across it with the words “Miss Eleganza”, a cheeky reference to Miss Loren’s breakthrough into fame through a local beauty contest. The thick fur coat with leopard prints and floral embroidery may be a stand-out piece in the collection of black organza ruffles, sequin embroidery, and bejewelled sapphire velvets, but the true highlight of the show has got to be Yumi Lambert’s clergy ensemble in full-on gold. A stunning gold brocade mini-dress appliquéd with all the jewels you can name, paired with a matching cloak and a towering shrine. The entire collection was classic Dolce & Gabbana, bringing in cheers from all across the globe with their ability to translate the alluring Italian culture so divinely through their works every single time.

Go Bunny Crazy with These Adorable Palm-sized Pouches

Bunny Pouches YOU+MORE

It seems as if YOU+MORE by Felissimo are going mad for bunnies these days. Last week, they released a slew of adorable bunny storage boxes that were inspired by Japanese furoshiki textile art. Needless to say, the Internet went bat shit crazy over just how cute they were.
However, the Japanese retailer now has something that’s possibly even better: palm-sized pouches that look exactly like real bunnies! According to Rocketnews24, the pouches are made from a furry, fluffy material that makes them look and feel life-like, so it’d be extremely difficult not to mistake them for the real thing.

Beat the Heat with This New and Innovative Plastic Fabric

With our year-round humidity, it can be a little difficult to keep our cool. As our planet keeps getting warmer, more people are turning to air conditioning to combat the heat, and that’s putting a serious strain on energy resources. However, a team of scientists is working on a new way to keep us comfortable in sweltering conditions. In a paper published in Science, the team introduced an innovative textile made of plastic. Inspired by plastic wrap, this new plastic fabric would allow your body heat to dissipate, keeping you cooler than anything you’ve ever worn before. In fact, it may keep you cool enough to eliminate your dependence on air conditioning.

When temperatures soar, we perspire, which allows the heat to dissipate as our sweat evaporates. And while many wicking fabrics actively draw moisture away from the skin, heat can remain trapped by your clothes, which keeps you feeling warm. The innovative fabric is a modified polyethylene, so think plastic wrap, except it’s scattered with nanoscale pores. And just like a plastic wrap, the material allows infrared radiation to pass right through, except the engineered version, called nanoPE, has a porous nanostructure that preserves infrared permeability, is opaque for a decent coverage, and the material has been made breathable as well. When tested, the team found that it kept the surface of a body-heat simulator at almost the same temperature as that of bare skin.
Stanford associate professor and co-author of the research, Yi Cui, speculates that him and his colleagues might need an additional six months to transform the material into a woven fibre that can be used to produce clothing before they can actually begin to test the textile out on individuals. He predicts that the material may be ready for commercialisation within two years.  Beyond their consumers’ personal comfort, the team would be on to something even bigger than what they sought out to produce. Less usage of air conditioning would result in less energy depletion, less money spent, and less production of carbon dioxide pollution that’s generated from electricity. Well, we can’t wait to hear more good news from their trials.

The Bugaboo Boxer Makes Carrying Luggage Easy As Pie

Tired of lugging your luggage around on holidays? Not to worry. Bugaboo has got you covered with their Bugaboo Boxer series – a slick luggage system that holds your bags together in one place.
So how does it work? Well, the system makes use of interlocking cases that click together in a way that looks like your bags are magnetised. The cases are then positioned on a foldable chassis, which can hold multiple bags, and can easily be adjusted to fit your height. All you’ve got to do is click your luggage on the chassis, and push. Easy as pie.

Here’s how the chassis looks like

The Bugaboo Boxer works great for both traditional trollies and suitcases. However, there’s a nice little surprise inside in the form of an inner bag, which also acts a daypack. If you’re on long journeys, you can opt for the Bugaboo Boxer Travel Case, a solid bag that is made out of Polycarbonate hard-shell. For shorter trips, there’s the smaller, but equally as impressive Cabin Case.

After all, a company that makes travelling easier, is a company worth paying attention to.

Here's Why You Need Ceramides in Your Beauty Routine

A word that gets thrown around a lot in the beauty industry as of late is “ceramide”. It’s often peddled as a much-have skincare ingredient, especially when it comes to anti-aging. But do you know what ceramide actually is, and how the use of ceramides can benefit your skin?
Lipid (fat) molecules can be found in high concentrations within cell membranes, and ceramides are actually a form of lipid molecule that can be found in the top layer of the skin to regulate cells. Making up 50% of the extracellular matrix, ceramides are able to hold skin cells together to form a protective layer, helping the skin preserve moisture and elasticity. It not only helps to keep the skin plump and hydrated, it calms red and irritated skin too, making it particularly effective in treating eczema. Ceramides can quickly help to restore the skin’s barrier if you’ve over-exfoliated too. It’s no wonder why ceramide is being touted as an essential skincare ingredient!
Our skin contains 9 different forms of ceramide, but only a few can be commonly found in skincare products. Several companies may choose to label the type of ceramide by their INCI name (referring to each form numerically), while others use a revised 3-letter designation system called “Motta”. And then there are companies which refer to ceramides by their chemical titles, making our lives a little more difficult. But fear not, you can refer to this useful list below to locate your ceramides.
Types of Ceramides
Ceramide 1 = Ceramide EOS
Ceramide 2 = Cermamide NS = N-stearoyl sphinganine
Ceramide 3 = Ceramide NP = N-stearoyl phytosphingosine
Ceramide 4 = Ceramide EOH
Ceramide 5 = Ceramide AS
Ceramide 6 = Ceramide AP = α-hydroxy-N-stearoylphytosphingosine
Ceramide 6 II = Caproyl sphingosine
Ceramide 7 = Ceramide AH
Ceramide 8 = Ceramide NH
Ceramide 9 = Ceramide EOP
Have a look at our selection of products that contain ceramides to help give your skin a little TLC.

Rihanna's Long-Awaited Fenty Puma Collection Is Finally Arriving In Stores

Since the debut of riri’s Fenty Puma AW16 collection last February, there’s been non-stop buzz and excitement as to when we can call those hauntingly sultry street looks our own. The provocative looks took a subversive and icy stance against plain ol’ boring streetwear, presenting to us the show-stopping Tear Away Track Jacket which deservingly usurps the leather biker from any rebel’s closet. “If the Addams Family went to the gym, this is what they would wear,” Rihanna had said.

Get rid of pesky blackheads with the new Korean “Aqua Peel”

No matter how many masks and pore strips we go through, those annoying blackheads just aren’t going anywhere. If you feel the satisfaction of seeing the sebum and gunk drawn out of your pores like we do, then you should definitely know about this new K-beauty skincare craze. Introducing the “Aqua Peel”. It’s a 15-minute pore-cleaning procedure that literally vacuums out the impurities from your skin – and yes, it does eradicate blackheads. But what exactly is an “aqua peel” and how does it actually work?
The process begins by placing gauze strips that are soaked in toner onto the skin to loosen sebum and dead skin cells. From there, a double-chambered skin vacuum with a rotating nozzle tip is used to push the AHA or BHA solution into the skin. This step exfoliates the skin and sucks it up, pulling out all the impurities and unwanted filth that have been partying it up in your pores. If you want to give this procedure a shot, you might actually be able to do it yourself. The at-home pore machine is currently being sold in South Korea and on Auction, but hopefully it’ll go global soon. It may not be as powerful of a device compared to those used in spas, but its compact size makes it a good alternative if you’re thinking of jumping on board the new skincare trend.

After the procedure, you’ll see a cloudy water tank filled with the impurities and small squiggles of sebum floating around that will leave you horrified and satisfied in equal measure. Be sure to follow up with a soothing mask or moisturiser after you’re done with the intensive skin treatment, particularly those with sensitive skin! So, what do you think about this Korean pore treatment?

Bang & Olufsen’s New Speakers Will Make For Stunning Additions To Your Home

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound Speakers

Rarely, if ever, do speakers spruce up your home. Most of the time, they’re obscured in the background, only noticeable when you actually want to use them. But that’s all going to change with Bang & Olufsen’s stunning new BeoSound series.
Introducing the BeoSound 1 and 2 – conical-shaped speakers that not only look great, but sound great too. These speakers are both wireless and portable; you can place them anywhere in your home as decorative items, from your bedroom to the toilet, while they also rock a sleek, all-aluminium design.

BeoSound 1 & 2

Bang & Olufsen

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound

Glorious looks aside, there’s a strong emphasis on functionality as well. “We live in a time of cord cutting where everyone wants more freedom. No one wants to be hindered by technological restriction, says Marie Kristine Schmidt, Vice President Brand, Design & Marketing.
But that’s not all. The specs of the BeoSound 1 and 2 are seriously impressive. You’ve got 360° of high tech acoustics – a driver is placed on top of the speakers, and from there, the music reverberates into a reflector to produce a powerful surround sound experience.
There’s also the option of directly streaming your music. So that means there’s easy access to music apps like Spotify or Deezer. You can also connect to options like Google Cast, AirPlay and DNLA.
Intuitive sensor technology lets the BeoSound speakers identify your presence wherever you stand, so you can control the speaker’s sole button from any direction, while there’s also the option of connecting with Bang & Olufsen’s multi-room system. Basically, you get to connect up to eight devices in your home, which is pretty much perfect for a house party.
So what’s the big difference between the BeoSound 1 and 2? Well, the former while powerful doesn’t produce as crisp a sound as the BeoSound 2. The BeoSound 2 is also bigger in size, and it needs a permanent power connection to produce its insanely clear audio levels.
That being said, both speakers would make fantastic additions to your home. Just be prepared to cough up the dough; because these beauties won’t come cheap!
BeoSound 1 is available from 15 September onwards at Bang & Olufsen Grand Hyatt Showroom, retailing at $2,200. BeoSound 2 will be available from end November 2016, retailing at $2,850. Visit stores.bang-olufsen.com/singapore.
