This Fashion Artist Uses Beauty Products For Her Illustrations

We’ve heard of mixed media painting before, but we’ve never seen painting which involved beautiful strokes of nail varnish, watercolour, flowers (yes, flowers), lipstick and mascara. Chan Clayrene, local fashion artist also known as @artclaytion on Instagram, never fails to enchant her 10.7K followers with her exquisite paintings which are predominantly created with unconventional materials. It takes real skill to master the art of the unpredictable watercolour, but we must say that it’s a whole other challenge to create a full-fledged masterpiece with nail varnish. We mean, we can’t even paint our nails neatly to begin with. The use of glitter nail varnish, gems, and flower petals add a charming dimension to the artist’s already-realistic artwork. We especially love the 3-D mini dresses which (literally) stem from mini wild flowers, leaves and twigs.

Love Disneyland? You Should Try These Disney-scented Candles

Disney-inspired Candles, Anthology

Visited Disneyland and had a blast? Well, that’s normal.
What’s also normal is suffering from post-Disneyland depression. It’s a sign that you enjoyed your time way too much, and usually, the only cure would be going back for a return trip. Thanks to Anthology Candles – a company that specialises in quirky soy candles – you can now bring the magic of Disneyland to your home for the perfect remedy!
The Charleston-based candle company came up with a selection of Disney-themed scented candles way back in February, with flavours ranging from Churros to Main Street Bakery. The latter apparently smells like a combination of hazelnut coffee and sugar cookie, while there’s also Belle’s Library, which is described as a mix of a “aged library books, leather and wild roses” on Anthology’s website.

💜Even draped in a scrim, the Haunted Mansion is awesome!🔮👻🏰 ~~~~~ Haunted Manor is our most popular "I didn't think I'd like it but now that I've tried it, it's one of my favorites" candle! The scents are musty and dusty carpets and furnishings, along with graveyard grasses, but the blend is clean, bright, and surprisingly fresh! I mean, for such an old mansion, and all 😉 • • • #anthologycandles #hauntedmansion #hauntedmanor #disneyparks #disneyfeature #magickingdom #disneyinspired #disneymerch #libertysquare #disneyland #neworleanssquare #waltdisneyworld #disneyworld #disneyig #igers #wdw_igers #disneyside #fd101look #tiggerlovesdisney #disneylandparis #disneyblogger #tokyodisneyland #shanghaidisneyland #disneylover #disneylove #999happyhaunts #foolishmortals #madameleota #hatboxghost #disneyathome

Each candle is placed in a reusable glass jar and made from natural soy wax (the beans are grown in the USA). The candles are infused with fragrance oils, but probably the most special thing about them is that they’re all hand-mixed and hand-poured. That’s real love going into these candles right there.
Not a Disneyland fan? You can always try out their special Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter’s Tea Party or Harry Potter Candle.

The Most Hydrating Lip Oils to Try Now

Oils have been a part of beauty regimens since the beginning of time, but there’s definitely been a resurgence on our shelves as of late, with specialised formulas created just for our face, body, hair, and now our lips. Beyond their obvious moisturising properties, most of these innovative lip oils lend a natural shine to the lips and doubles up as a convenient lip stain, leaving you with a fuller-looking pout. So, step away from the lip gloss, ditch your trusty lip balm, and swipe on one of our top picks.
1. Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Tint-in-Oil

Its lustrous sheen and delicate colour will have you addicted to Yves Saint Laurent’s Volupté Tint-in-Oil. With a tapered wand for precise application, you can drench your lips effortlessly in apricot kernel, coriander fruit, jojoba seed, and possiflora edulis seed oils. What sets this lip oil apart is its revolutionary formulation, where colour and oil are seamlessly blended together, allowing it to melt onto your lips beautifully.

2. Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil

Inspired by Clarins’ expert face and body oils, Clarins’ Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil is a fusion formula that’s rich in plant-based active ingredients. Saturate your lips in Mirabelle plum, jojoba and hazelnut oils with its simple sponge-tip applicator. This one has a gel-like consistency that imparts a hint of colour, leaving a shiny, non-sticky finish with a subtly sweet taste. Just make sure you don’t lick it off every time you put it on.

We’re sure you’ve heard of the Lancôme Juicy Shaker. Drawing inspiration from cocktail shakers, this product works just like one. When you shake the tiny bottle, the oil and colour pigments fuse to create a concoction of silky colour that applies smooth and sheer. The über-soft pointed cushion applicator resembles a felt-tip marker which makes it easy to navigate your lip contours, so you won’t have to worry about going overboard.

It may be a little indulgent and costly, but this Hourglass lip oil is an advanced anti-aging treatment that blends essential oils, vitamins, and three powerful active ingredients that will help to boost moisture levels, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles and improve the appearance of lip shape. Its 24-karat gold-plated tip may sound like a gimmick, but it sure is an opulent way to glide the oil over your lips.

President Obama’s Planning a Music and Arts Festival with SXSW

President Obama Music Festival

If this doesn’t make President Barack Obama the coolest politician of all time, we’re not sure what will. The United States Commander-in-Chief made an appearance at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Texas earlier this year, and apparently he got inspired, because the White House has just revealed that they’ll be holding their very own music and arts festival on 3 October.
Organised in conjunction with SXSW, the American Film Institute and President Obama’s Committee on Arts and Humanities, the one-day festival will be titled “South by South Lawn”, and will feature music performances, films, and panel discussions.
There’s no word as to who’s going to be in the festival line-up yet, but you can get a pretty good idea of the President’s favourite music via this tweet:

Whether we’ll get to see Jay Z or Alicia Keys rip up the stage at the White House remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure – there will be a strong emphasis on encouraging young talent at the event. For instance, the film segment of the program will comprise of short films from K-12 students, while panel discussions will focus on innovation and technology.
Want to nominate yourself to attend this festival? Visit this link before 10 September, and you might just get to enjoy an evening of festivities at the White House!

Miu Miu May Have Just Called "The Pyjama Look" Next Season's It Trend

So, the 2017 Pre Spring/Summer collection from Miu Miu dropped a couple of months ago, and an ubiquitous “ready-for-bedtime” vibe was eminent throughout the series of offbeat styles. The collection may not have ventured far from Miu Miu’s usual energetic and youthful spirit towards ready-to-wear, but we’re definitely looking at a bold and refreshing switch-up, one that earns the brand the title of “true high fashion oddball”. We’re looking at a Harajuku-esque attitude of “everything that can be worn must be worn all at once” – where bejewelled hairbands are layered over hats, colourful socks worn under feathered pumps, and sequin cropped tanks over checkered shirts. Sounds like a mishmash of disastrous choices that shouldn’t work; but strangely, it did. We’ve got to hand it to Miu Miu for accomplishing such a feat which, if others had tried, would look like a 9 year old’s slumber party gone wrong.

This collection is all about the jammies; Miu Miu brought on pastel patchwork pyjama sets, colour block jackets which looked like they have been sewn up from silk quilts, a whole lot of mix-and-matching prints, and graphic sweaters. We’re immediately brought back into days of Hello Kitty pyjamas and bedsheets starring all sorts of wacky prints. The footwear is absolutely stunning, from colourful zig-zag woven platforms to red satin Mary Janes, all of which paired with equally boisterous geometric printed socks. We’d like to think that this is Miu Miu’s way of telling us to get ready for bed in style – with reflective tennis skirts and hot pink fur vests. That’s so happening for us.

See The Line Behind Kendall’s Instagrammed Street Styles

There’s loads of hype surrounding the “Instagram Girls” today, and by that we’re referring to the supermodels you can’t get enough of; Gigi & Bella, Kendall Jenner etc. They’re the end all be all of lust-worthy #ootds, the definition of laidback chic we all wished we embodied. And we’ve finally tracked down the label that’s been the cause of reason behind these beauties’ effortlessly cute street looks. Are You Am I, a Californian-flavoured fashion label, comes from Rumi Neely who is a fashion blogger herself (that should explain her impeccable discernment in what will or what not excel in the “Instagram fashion” scene).

The idea behind the brand stems from a meticulous eye for thoughtfully done minimal outfits designed to be, in Rumi Neely’s own words, “the ultimate of what they are” – with highly luxurious materials such as lambskin and silk, and detailing. If you’ve seen the Instagram post of Kendall donning a Metallica band tee with a ripped-open front which revealed her bra, we thought you’d like to know that the exposed satin bralet came from none other than Are You Am I. Or that lush gold cami Hailey Baldwin wore while out getting a drink? Yup, nuff said. The fashion label may also have been the catalyst behind the spike of growth in the choker trend recently, with their velvet chokers and suede wrap-arounds which these supermodels have been obsessively pairing with almost every outfit. If you’re on board the hype train to chase after these supermodel-approved basics, we’ve got you covered with some of our most favourite pieces from the brand.

IKEA’s New DIY Restaurant in London Lets You Play Chef

If you’re in London this month, and you love to cook, here’s some good news for you. IKEA is opening up a DIY restaurant called “The Dining Club” at their Shoreditch outlet from 10 to 25 September, and up to 19 diners will be able to take over a dedicated space to make their own meals, just as how they would in their own homes.
“We bond and connect over the everyday process of cooking meals together so to celebrate this firmly held belief, we are opening The Dining Club to bring people together to enjoy a meal from beginning to end. This will take place in an environment that reflects a homely kitchen, so you can host a dinner party for all of your friends,” said Ellie Pniok, commercial manager for Ikea Food, in a statement.
According to Mashable, you’ll be able to construct and personalise your very own menu, and pick from a selection of sharing dishes and Scandinavian classics. There’ll also be an expert chef present, so no worries if you’re afraid you might screw up the cooking.
Best part is, this unique dining experience is free of charge. But do make reservations as quickly as possible though, because slots for places are filling up fast. If anything, we hope IKEA Singapore does something similar in the near future, but with a localised version. It’d be great making our very own Nasi Lemak or Laksa dishes don’t you think?

Review: Our Readers Try The 1-DAY ACUVUE DEFINE Beauty Contacts

Awhile back, we first got acquainted with the 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ lenses, as our first foray into wearing beauty lenses. And then, we gave a few lucky readers the chance to try them out for themselves, because we felt like we needed to spread the joy that were these daily lenses that look completely natural while enhancing our eyes in subtle ways, and also are super convenient and comfortable to wear for long hours on an everyday basis. Also reassuring to know: thanks to the Beauty-Wrapped-In-Comfort™ technology that keeps the colour pigments secure inside the two transparent layers of the lens, you can wear them with a complete peace of mind that they are perfectly healthy options for your eyes.
You’ve heard it from us, so now, these five girls share how the 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ lens style of their choice was a gamechanger for them.

natural shine set
“The 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ lenses are softer and thinner than other lenses I’ve worn before, which makes them more comfortable to wear. I can wear them all day long with no discomfort, and they don’t cause my eyes to look red or bloodshot. It’s not my first time wearing beauty lenses, but these have a very natural effect, making my eyes look naturally bigger and more distinctive. I like the colour of the Natural Shine™ style, with its dark grey limbal ring with glittering gold layers.”
– Cherly Koh

“The 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ lenses are so soft, and more comfortable and less dry as compared to other daily lenses I’ve tried. Besides, with them on my eyes look much brighter, no matter what lighting I am under. The enlargement effect of the lens is much better than other beauty lenses, as the colours of the Natural Shine™ are similar to my eyes, with its subtle grey colour and gold accents. The 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ lenses in Natural Shine™ is definitely suitable to wear for any event, and with it on, there’s no doubt the extra shine will make you the centre of attraction!”
– Kwa Miao Qin
vivid style set
“As someone who is usually either bespectacled or using monthly lenses, I like the idea of being able to wear my lenses once and throw them away without the any hassle. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you forgot your spectacles, contact lens case and solution at a sleepover? I have – so daily lenses are the way to go.
I wanted lenses that are subtle in terms of design with just enough of a glow to tell a difference, and I must say that the Vivid Style compliments my daily light make-up routine. I have tried many different brands and the 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ has scored in terms of comfort. Nothing beats the softness of their daily lenses, where I can go any entire day without noticing any dryness or irritation. I’ve been wearing beauty lenses for about a decade now, and after entering my mid-20s, I realised that ‘Big Eye’ lenses are neither as flattering as they used to be, nor professional-looking. I am currently enjoying the Vivid Style lenses as they perk me up by helping me look more awake and fresh without the need for any over-the-top colours or design.”
– Tessa Ee
accent style set

“The lenses were really soft and comfortable; to the point that it didn’t feel like I was wearing them sometimes, even when I had worn them for over 12 hours. UV protection is also always a plus in sunny Singapore, especially since I wear lenses on a daily basis. I chose the Accent Style because I wanted something subtle, that made my eyes look fresher without an obvious call to attention. I’m a graphic designer, and usually spend long hours on a screen, resulting in tired-looking eyes, so the Accent Style went very well with what I was looking for. I usually wear another brand’s grey coloured lenses, and I liked how the Accent Style still managed to keep the natural brown colour of my eyes. The mix of grey and brown was a very nice surprise! “

– Rachel Goh

I chose the Accent Style because I thought it looks natural and is suitable for everyday life. My eyes did not feel dry as compared to when I used other lenses. It fits well too, and really looks natural. The design of the Accent Style is unique but doesn’t seem too different from  my natural irises, hence I felt it was well suited for everyday use.”
– Dionne See

Try it for yourself, visit acuvue.com.sg/e-voucher to enjoy $30 off with a minimum purchase of 2 boxes of lenses from selected ACUVUE® ranges!

Tiong Bahru’s Fancy New Hostel Has A Chill Bistro Inside

COO, Tiong Bahru

In café-crazy Singapore, there is no shortage of places for people to relax and chill out at, especially when it comes to Tiong Bahru. The heritage neighbourhood is home to some of hippest hangout spots in town, but lately, it’s received a little boost with the opening of COO – a swanky new hostel that has a strong focus on design and food.

COO Hostel

COO Hostel Reception

COO Hostel Dormitory Room

COO Terrace, Tiong Bahru

The design of the hostel is quirky with clear nostalgic influences. Grilled metal gates found in old estates are plastered all over the space, while there’s even an abstract neon light map of the surrounding streets. As for the food element, that is taken care of by an all-day, 60-seater bistro that serves ‘glocal’ cuisine, which is basically COO’s self-styled version of local food delights with international flavours.
For instance, there’s the Tiong Bahru Platter ($28); which consists of roasted pork belly, grilled chicken satay, barramundi and mackerel keropok, and the Tiong Bahru ‘Chwee Kueh’ ($9); which isn’t actually steamed and doesn’t involve any radish. Instead, the chwee kueh is a panna cotta pudding that is topped with candied walnut and balsamic strawberries. It might sound a little kitschy, but local pride is a huge factor here.
Other food items include Prawn Noodles ($18), Pork Cheek Capellini ($18), Prawn Risotto ($25), Grilled Beef Hanger Steak ($26), and Braised Lamb Shoulder ($32). Do note that the menu is split into all-day brunch and dinner. You can take a look here.

If you’re a guest at the hostel, you’ll be able to enjoy a complimentary breakfast in the morning, and if you want to meet new people, you can do so via COO Connect – a social matching tool that allows you to chat with hostel guests prior to your stay. While that might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it could help complete strangers become good friends.
That being said, COO doesn’t just stand out from other hostels around town, it’s an affordable option in expensive Singapore. Plus, there’s free bike rentals too! One major downside though is that there are only dorm rooms available, and it might be a little tricky having a staycation with your partner over here. Other than that, the overall space seems like a decent bet to brighten up Tiong Bahru (not that it needed it before anyway).
COO is located at 259 Outram Road, Singapore 169056. Visit their official website at www.staycoo.com.

Valentino's Rockstud Spike : The Current It Bag To Own

We’re scrambling to make space on our shelf of designer bags for the true-blue star of them all; the Valentino’s ‘Rockstud Spike”. We like to refer to it as the IT bag of the season, looking into how it effuses class and innocence at the same time. Employing the matelassé technique which we are all familiar with (due to our never-ending collections of Chanel 2.55 and Miu Miu 055s which we’re not proud of), these quilted leather bags exclaim ‘luxe’ more accurately than Saffron Sharpe did.

You’ll find that the Rockstud Spikes are as versatile as they can get, with adjustable straps that enable you to wear them in whichever way you like – cross-bodied or slung over your shoulders. Everyone seems to be all about downsizing accessories right now, and this looks like a good place for us to start.

These classic compact carry-ons are sure to add an extra edge to your everyday look, with contemporary studs iconic to Valentino and romantic pastel colours. Looks like we found our go-to bag for the year.

What’s unique to the Singapore launch is the series of Merlion, Singapore Sling, and quirky Chilli Crab charms which pack a punch in local flavour.  But the highlight of the collection has got to be the cheeky luggage tags series, featuring destination-specific luggage tags engraved with international airport codes from prominent cities such as SIN (Singapore), JFK (New York City), and NRT (Tokyo). Now we’ll be able to keep the fond memories of our synergistic travels close to heart wherever we go with these meaningful charms.

Marrying Style + Substance, YEVO’s Wireless Headphones Are The Real Deal

YEVO 1 Wireless Headphones

These days, wired headphones are a bit of a hassle. They’re often tangled up no matter how neatly you coil them, and when you’re walking too fast, they might get caught in random objects by accident. It’s annoying, to say the least. While wireless headphones aren’t the most revolutionary product in the market at the moment (they’ve been around for quite some time), YEVO’s new headphones look like the gadget that’ll propel your music listening experience into the future.
Introducing the YEVO 1, wireless headphones that are the brainchild of Stockholm-based electronics company, YEVO Labs. These sleek beauties are jam-packed with all the latest features that any music lover would appreciate – think Bluetooth 4.1 technology, a frequency range up to 20kHz, and noise cancellation capabilities. Basically, in terms of audio output, the YEVO 1 is pretty legit.
Battery life is herculean at 20 hours per charge, while a specialised phone app allows you to customise your sound however way you want. For example, you’re able enhance your bass, control the amount of audio you hear, as well as balance the volumes between the left and right ear bud! And as if these tech specs weren’t enough to geek us out, the YEVO 1 looks like a real charmer too. The headphones are available in two beautiful colours – a sexy onyx black, or a cool ivory white.

We’ve always gone against the grain, shrugging off critics that condemn its ideas as ‘too difficult to execute’ or to ‘easy to work’. We view technology as a function of quality and we’re movingly passionate about pushing boundaries. With YEVO 1 we believe this will change how people experience headphones,” says Andreas Vural, founder and president of YEVO Labs and Happy Plugs.
Audio-wise, most listeners wouldn’t have any complaints with the YEVO 1. As for the design, its petite size makes it almost like an additional accessory rather than traditional earphones. So if you’re looking to upgrade your music listening experience, or just find a gift for your significant other, you probably won’t go too wrong with the YEVO 1.
The YEVO 1 is retailing at USD$299. Pre-order yours today at www.yevolabs.com.
